If you want, you can provide your own BIOS and firmware files that were dumped from a real system. Using a custom BIOS and firmware allows you to boot the system's firmware and navigate in it, just like in a real console.
Notes:
- Using a custom BIOS and firmware is required if you want to launch the emulator in DSi mode
Custom BIOS and firmware settings
Default system
The default system that should be used to run ROMs. It can be either DS or DSi (Experimental). To use the selected system, the matching BIOS directory must also be set. Be aware that to run games in DSi mode, the DS BIOS directory must also be configured since the DS BIOS files are used to run DS ROMs. Also be aware that homebrews cannot be run in DSi mode.
DS BIOS directory
The directory in which the DS BIOS files are found. The selected folder must contain the following files with the same exact names:
- bios7.bin
- bios9.bin
- firmware.bin
If the directory is not set or the none of these files are found, a red error indicator will be displayed next to the setting. If the directory is set and an orange warning indicator is displayed, this means that some required files were not found. You can click on the warning icon to see which files are missing. If no icon is displayed next to the setting, this means that all required files were found in the selected directory.
DSi BIOS directory
The directory in which the DSi BIOS files are found. The selected folder must contain the following files with the same exact names:
- bios7.bin
- bios9.bin
- firmware.bin
- nand.bin
If the directory is not set or the none of these files are found, a red error indicator will be displayed next to the setting. If the directory is set and an orange warning indicator is displayed, this means that some required files were not found. You can click on the warning icon to see which files are missing. If no icon is displayed next to the setting, this means that all required files were found in the selected directory.
Show boot screen
Whether the DS boot screen should be displayed or not. If enabled, when opening a ROM, you can navigate the DS firmware before opening the game, just like in a real DS. If disabled, the ROM is loaded directly. This option must be disabled to run homebrew ROMs. This option does not apply to the DSi system since the boot screen is always shown.
