d80bd70f08 DocBook/media: renamed xml documents to tmpl

ccb86a6907 uio: add generic driver for PCI 2.3 devices
This adds a generic uio driver that can bind to any PCI device. First
user will be virtualization where a qemu userspace process needs to give
guest OS access to the device.

Interrupts are handled using the Interrupt Disable bit in the PCI
command register and Interrupt Status bit in the PCI status register.
All devices compliant to PCI 2.3 (circa 2002) and all compliant PCI
Express devices should support these bits. Driver detects this support,
and won't bind to devices which do not support the Interrupt Disable Bit
in the command register.

It's expected that more features of interest to virtualization will be
added to this driver in the future. Possibilities are: mmap for device
resources, MSI/MSI-X, eventfd (to interface with kvm), iommu.

156f5a7801 debugfs: Fix terminology inconsistency of dir name to mount debugfs filesystem.
Many developers use "/debug/" or "/debugfs/" or "/sys/kernel/debug/"
directory name to mount debugfs filesystem for ftrace according to
./Documentation/tracers/ftrace.txt file.

And, three directory names(ex:/debug/, /debugfs/, /sys/kernel/debug/) is
existed in kernel source like ftrace, DRM, Wireless, Documentation,
Network[sky2]files to mount debugfs filesystem.

debugfs means debug filesystem for debugging easy to use by greg kroah
hartman. "/sys/kernel/debug/" name is suitable as directory name
of debugfs filesystem.

99b7623380 proc 2/2: remove struct proc_dir_entry::owner
Setting ->owner as done currently (pde->owner = THIS_MODULE) is racy
as correctly noted at bug #12454. Someone can lookup entry with NULL
->owner, thus not pinning enything, and release it later resulting
in module refcount underflow.

We can keep ->owner and supply it at registration time like ->proc_fops
and ->data.

But this leaves ->owner as easy-manipulative field (just one C assignment)
and somebody will forget to unpin previous/pin current module when
switching ->owner. ->proc_fops is declared as "const" which should give
some thoughts.

->read_proc/->write_proc were just fixed to not require ->owner for
protection.

rmmod'ed directories will be empty and return "." and ".." -- no harm.
And directories with tricky enough readdir and lookup shouldn't be modular.
We definitely don't want such modular code.

Removing ->owner will also make PDE smaller.

So, let's nuke it.

Kudos to Jeff Layton for reminding about this, let's say, oversight.

8205779114 UIO: Add name attributes for mappings and port regions
If a UIO device has several memory mappings, it can be difficult for userspace
to find the right one. The situation becomes even worse if the UIO driver can
handle different versions of a card that have different numbers of mappings.
Benedikt Spranger has such cards and pointed this out to me. Thanks, Bene!

To address this problem, this patch adds "name" sysfs attributes for each
mapping. Userspace can use these to clearly identify each mapping. The name
string is optional. If a driver doesn't set it, an empty string will be
returned, so this patch won't break existing drivers.

The same problem exists for port region information, so a "name" attribute is
added there, too.

f7f84f38cd docbook: split kernel-api for device-drivers
The kernel-api docbook was much larger than any of the others,
so processing it took longer and needed some docbook extras in
some cases, so split it into kernel-api (infrastructure etc.)
and device drivers/device subsystems. This allows these docbooks
to be generated in parallel. (This reduced the docbook processing
time on my 4-proc system with make -j4 from about 5min:16sec to
about 2min:01sec.)

The chapters that were moved from kernel-api to device-drivers are:

Driver Basics
Device drivers infrastructure
Parallel Port Devices
Message-based devices
Sound Devices
16x50 UART Driver

3794f3e812 docsrc: build Documentation/ sources
Currently source files in the Documentation/ sub-dir can easily bit-rot
since they are not generally buildable, either because they are hidden in
text files or because there are no Makefile rules for them. This needs to
be fixed so that the source files remain usable and good examples of code
instead of bad examples.

Add the ability to build source files that are in the Documentation/ dir.
Add to Kconfig as "BUILD_DOCSRC" config symbol.

Use "CONFIG_BUILD_DOCSRC=1 make ..." to build objects from the
Documentation/ sources. Or enable BUILD_DOCSRC in the *config system.
However, this symbol depends on HEADERS_CHECK since the header files need
to be installed (for userspace builds).

Built (using cross-tools) for x86-64, i386, alpha, ia64, sparc32,
sparc64, powerpc, sh, m68k, & mips.

a9b60bf4c2 kgdb: fix kgdb_validate_break_address to perform a mem write
A regression to the kgdb core was found in the case of using the
CONFIG_DEBUG_RODATA kernel option. When this option is on, a breakpoint
cannot be written into any readonly memory page. When an external
debugger requests a breakpoint to get set, the
kgdb_validate_break_address() was only checking to see if the address
to place the breakpoint was readable and lacked a write check.

This patch changes the validate routine to try reading (via the
breakpoint set request) and also to try immediately writing the break
point. If either fails, an error is correctly returned and the
debugger behaves correctly. Then an end user can make the
descision to use hardware breakpoints.

Also update the documentation to reflect that using
CONFIG_DEBUG_RODATA will inhibit the use of software breakpoints.

328a14e70e UIO: Add write function to allow irq masking
Sometimes it is necessary to enable/disable the interrupt of a UIO device
from the userspace part of the driver. With this patch, the UIO kernel driver
can implement an "irqcontrol()" function that does this. Userspace can write
an s32 value to /dev/uioX (usually 0 or 1 to turn the irq off or on). The
UIO core will then call the driver's irqcontrol function.

4d5a73dc39 usb gadget serial: split out CDC ACM function
Split out CDC ACM parts of "gadget serial" to a "function driver".
Some key structural differences from the previous ACM support, shared
with with the generic serial function (next patch):

 - As a function driver, it can be combined with other functions.
One gadget configuration could offer both serial and network
   links, as an example.

 - One serial port can be exposed in multiple configurations;
the /dev/ttyGS0 node could be exposed regardless of which
   config the host selected.

 - One configuration can expose multiple serial ports, such as
   ttyGS0, ttyGS1, ttyGS2, and ttyGS3.

This code should be a lot easier to understand than the previous
all-in-one-big-file version of the driver.

40982be52d usb gadget: composite gadget core
Add <linux/usb/composite.h> interfaces for composite gadget drivers, and
basic implementation support behind it:

  - struct usb_function ... groups one or more interfaces into a function
managed as one unit within a configuration, to which it's added by
    usb_add_function().

  - struct usb_configuration ... groups one or more such functions into
a configuration managed as one unit by a driver, to which it's added
by usb_add_config(). These operate at either high or full/low speeds
    and at a given bMaxPower.

  - struct usb_composite_driver ... groups one or more such configurations
into a gadget driver, which may be registered or unregistered.

  - struct usb_composite_dev ... a usb_composite_driver manages this; it
wraps the usb_gadget exposed by the controller driver.

This also includes some basic kerneldoc.

How to use it (the short version): provide a usb_composite_driver with a
bind() that calls usb_add_config() for each of the needed configurations.
The configurations in turn have bind() calls, which will usb_add_function()
for each function required. Each function's bind() allocates resources
needed to perform its tasks, like endpoints; sometimes configurations will
allocate resources too.

Separate patches will convert most gadget drivers to this infrastructure.

dbbea6713d mac80211: add documentation book
Quite a while ago I started this book. The required kernel-doc
patches have since gone into the tree so it is now possible to

the documentation collaboratively, hopefully driver authors can
add documentation based on their experience with mac80211.

The SECURITY_FRAMEWORK_VERSION macro has also been removed.

In a nutshell, there is no safe way to unload an LSM. The modular interface
is thus unecessary and broken infrastructure. It is used only by out-of-tree
modules, which are often binary-only, illegal, abusive of the API and
dangerous, e.g. silently re-vectoring SELinux.

bea3348eef [NET]: Make NAPI polling independent of struct net_device objects.
Several devices have multiple independant RX queues per net
device, and some have a single interrupt doorbell for several
queues.

In either case, it's easier to support layouts like that if the
structure representing the poll is independant from the net
device itself.

The signature of the ->poll() call back goes from:

int foo_poll(struct net_device *dev, int *budget)

to

int foo_poll(struct napi_struct *napi, int budget)

The caller is returned the number of RX packets processed (or
the number of "NAPI credits" consumed if you want to get
abstract). The callee no longer messes around bumping
dev->quota, *budget, etc. because that is all handled in the
caller upon return.

The napi_struct is to be embedded in the device driver private data
structures.

Furthermore, it is the driver's responsibility to disable all NAPI
instances in it's ->stop() device close handler. Since the
napi_struct is privatized into the driver's private data structures,
only the driver knows how to get at all of the napi_struct instances
it may have per-device.

With lots of help and suggestions from Rusty Russell, Roland Dreier,
Michael Chan, Jeff Garzik, and Jamal Hadi Salim.

Bug fixes from Thomas Graf, Roland Dreier, Peter Zijlstra,
Joseph Fannin, Scott Wood, Hans J. Koch, and Michael Chan.

[ Ported to current tree and all drivers converted. Integrated
  Stephen's follow-on kerneldoc additions, and restored poll_list
handling to the old style to fix mutual exclusion issues. -DaveM ]

6adb31c90c remove dubious legal statment from uio-howto
UIO currently contains a rather dubious statement which wants removing.

The actual questions around whether user space code that depends tightly
on kernel GPL code designed to co-work with it are derivative works of
the kernel is extremely complex, and since we don't have space for either
a masters length essay on legal issues or need to start flamewars lets
simply remove the comment and leave law to lawyers
