Commit a2b3471b5b ("toshiba_acpi: Use the Hotkey Event Type function
for keymap choosing") changed the *setup_keyboard function to query for
the Hotkey Event Type to help choose the correct keymap, but turns out
that here are certain Toshiba models out there not implementing this
feature, and thus, failing to continue the input device registration and
leaving such laptops without hotkey support.
This patch changes such check, and instead of returning an error if
the Hotkey Event Type is not present, we simply inform userspace about it,
changing the message printed from err to notice, making the function
responsible for registering the input device to continue.
This issue was found on a Toshiba Portege Z30-B, but there might be
some other models out there affected by this regression as well.

Commit e1a949c1b9 ("toshiba_acpi: Refactor *{get, set} functions return
value") made changes on the return type of the HCI/SCI functions, but a
typo on the USB Sleep and Music code is always reporting non existent
support for such feature.
This patch corrects the typo, changing an assignment to a comparison,
making the laptops with actual support for such feature to work again.

The work performed by wmi_gtoa is equivalent to simply sprintf(out,
"%pUL", in), so one could replace its body by this. However, most
users feed the result directly as a %s argument to some other function
which also understands the %p extensions (they all ultimately use
vsnprintf), so we can eliminate some stack buffers and quite a bit of
code by just using %pUL directly.
In wmi_dev_uevent I'm not sure whether there's room for a
nul-terminator in env->buf, so I've just replaced wmi_gtoa with the
equivalent sprintf call.

Since Surface Pro 3 does not follow the specs of "Windows ACPI Design
Guide for SoC Platform", code in drivers/input/misc/soc_array.c can
not detect these buttons on it. According to bios implementation,
Surface Pro 3 encapsulates these buttons in a device named "VGBI",
with _HID "MSHW0028". When any of the buttons is pressed, a specify
ACPI notification code for this button will be delivered to "VGBI". For
example, if power button is pressed down, ACPI notification code of 0xc6
will be sent by Notify(VGBI, 0xc6).
This patch leverages "VGBI" to distinguish different ACPI notification
code from Power button, Home button, Volume button, then dispatches these
code to input layer. Lid is already covered by acpi button driver, so
there's no need to rewrite.

Intel Sunrisepoint (Skylake PCH) has the iTCO watchdog accessible across
the SMBus, unlike previous generations of PCH/ICH where it was on the
LPC bus. Because it's on the SMBus, it doesn't make sense to pass around
a 'struct lpc_ich_info', and leaking the type of bus into the iTCO
watchdog driver is kind of backwards anyway.
This change introduces a new 'struct itco_wdt_platform_data' for use
inside the iTCO watchdog driver and by the upcoming Intel Sunrisepoint
code, which neatly avoids having to include lpc_ich headers in the i801
i2c driver.
This change is overdue because lpc_ich_info has already found its way
into other TCO watchdog users, notably the intel_pmc_ipc driver where
the watchdog actually isn't on the LPC bus as far as I can see.
A simple translation layer is provided for converting from the existing
'struct lpc_ich_info' inside the lpc_ich mfd driver.

There is at least one (mine) Yoga 2 Pro in existence that has incorrect
product version stored in DMI (reading as "INVALID"), causing it to not be
recognized as Yoga 2 by ideapad-laptop module, which in turn causes
non-existent hardware rfkills to be always reported as blocked.
This change adds a second check by board name, which is "Yoga2".
Looks like it also happens to be "INVALID" on some other Yoga 2 machines
where product version is correct instead, so the original check is left
intact to catch both cases.

A previous patch added explicit feature checks for support, *SUCCESS*
and *FAILURE to the HCI/SCI *{get, set} functions.
This patch removes some unnedded checks to the driver HCI/SCI
functions given that the default error return value is now set to
-EIO, there is no need to check for other error values other than
the ones currently checking for.

This patch refactors the return value of the driver *{get, set}
functions, since the driver default error value is -EIO.
All the functions now check for TOS_FAILURE, TOS_NOT_SUPPORTED and
TOS_SUCCESS.
On TOS_FAILURE a pr_err message is printed informing the user of the
error (no change was made to this, except the check was added to the
functions not checking for this).
On TOS_NOT_SUPPORTED we now return -ENODEV immediately (some
functions were returning -EIO and some other were not checking)
On TOS_SUCCESS* we now return 0 (as a side effect, a new success value
was added, since some functions return one instead of zero to
indicate success).
As a special case, the LED functions now check for *FAILURE on
*set, and check for TOS_FAILURE and TOS_SUCCESS on *get with their
"default" return value set to LED_OFF.
Also the {lcd, video}_proc* functions were adapted to reflect these
changes to their parent HCI functions.

This patch changes the *available functions return type from int to
void.
The checks for support of their respective features are done inside
such functions and there was no need to return anything as we can
flag the queried feature as supported inside these functions.
The code was adapted accordingly to these changes and two new
variables were created and another was changed from uint to bool.
Also, the function toshiba_acceleremoter_supported was renamed to
toshiba_accelerometer_available to maintain the naming consistency on

The hardcoded 0x83 CTRL setting overrides other settings in that byte,
enabling extra reporting that may not be useful on a particular platform.
Implement improved suspend mechanism via deep sleep. By writing zero to
both the active and idle cycle times the maXTouch device can be put into a
deep sleep mode, using minimal power. It is necessary to issue a calibrate
command after the chip has spent any time in deep sleep, however a soft
reset is unnecessary.
Use the old method on Chromebook Pixel via platform data option.
This patch also deals with the situation where the power configuration is
zero on probe, which would mean that the device never wakes up to execute
commands.
After a config download, the T7 power configuration may have changed so it
is necessary to re-read it.

The thermal code uses int, long and unsigned long for temperatures
in different places.
Using an unsigned type limits the thermal framework to positive
temperatures without need. Also several drivers currently will report
temperatures near UINT_MAX for temperatures below 0°C. This will probably
immediately shut the machine down due to overtemperature if started below
0°C.
'long' is 64bit on several architectures. This is not needed since INT_MAX °mC
is above the melting point of all known materials.
Consistently use a plain 'int' for temperatures throughout the thermal code and
the drivers. This only changes the places in the drivers where the temperature
is passed around as pointer, when drivers internally use another type this is
not changed.

This patch adds a new function named "set_fan_status" to complement
its get* counterpart, as well as to avoid code duplication between
"fan_proc_write" and "fan_store".
Also, both functions (get*, set*) are now checking for TOS_FAILURE,
TOS_NOT_SUPPORTED and TOS_SUCCESS (to be on par with the rest of the
HCI/SCI functions), printing an error message, returning -ENODEV and
zero respectively.
The proc and sysfs functions were updated to reflect these changes as
well, returning -EIO for proc, and propagating the error value on the

such variables are being used, and we are checking the returned values
of some others.

Commit 2b74103547 ("toshiba_acpi: Remove bluetooth rfkill code")
removed bluetooth related code, however, the wireless defines were
not removed and are unused.
This patch simply removes those defines as there is no code using
them.

This patch changes the tr function second parameter from bool to u32,
to be on par with the rest of the TCI functions of the driver, and the
code was updated accordingly.
Also, the check for translective support was moved to the *add
function, as the {__get, set}_lcd_brightness functions make use of it.

Commit f11f999e98 ("toshiba_acpi: Refuse to load on machines with
buggy INFO implementations") denied loading on laptops with a WMI Event
GUID given that such laptops manage the hotkeys via that interface,
however, such laptops have a working Toshiba Configuration Interface
(TCI), and thus, such commit denied several supported features.
This patch avoids registering the input device and ignores all hotkey
events on laptops with such WMI Event GUID, making the supported
features found in those laptops to work.

There were previous attempts to "merge" the toshiba SMM module to the
toshiba_acpi one, they were trying to imitate what the old toshiba
module does, however, some models (TOS1900 devices) come with a
"crippled" implementation and do not provide all the "features" a
"genuine" Toshiba BIOS does.
This patch adds a new device called toshiba_acpi, which aim is to
enable userspace to access the SMM on Toshiba laptops via ACPI calls.
Creating a new convenience _IOWR command to access the SCI functions
by opening/closing the SCI internally to avoid buggy BIOS, while at
the same time providing backwards compatibility.
Older programs (and new) who wish to access the SMM on newer models
can do it by pointing their path to /dev/toshiba_acpi (instead of
/dev/toshiba) as the toshiba.h header was modified to reflect these
changes as well as adds all the toshiba_acpi paths and command,
however, it is strongly recommended to use the new IOCTL for any
SCI command to avoid any buggy BIOS.

Since the introduction of TOS1900 devices support to the driver, the
"keys" entry under the proc directory was broken, given that it only
handled TOS620X devices accordingly.
This patch adapts the code to show the hotkey values of TOS1900
devices too, and in case some programs are still using that interface,
hotkeys reporting should now work on these devices.

The Chrome platform support depends on X86 || ARM because there are
only Chromebooks using those architectures. But only some drivers
depend on a given architecture, and the ones that do already have
a dependency on their specific Kconfig symbol entries.
An option is to also make CHROME_PLATFORMS depends on || COMPILE_TEST
but is more future proof to remove the dependency and let the drivers
be built in all architectures if possible to have more build coverage.

Merge tag 'module-builtin_driver-v4.1-rc8' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/paulg/linux
Pull module_platform_driver replacement from Paul Gortmaker:
"Replace module_platform_driver with builtin_platform driver in non
modules.
We see an increasing number of non-modular drivers using
modular_driver() type register functions. There are several downsides
to letting this continue unchecked:
- The code can appear modular to a reader of the code, and they won't
know if the code really is modular without checking the Makefile
and Kconfig to see if compilation is governed by a bool or
tristate.
- Coders of drivers may be tempted to code up an __exit function that
is never used, just in order to satisfy the required three args of
the modular registration function.
- Non-modular code ends up including the <module.h> which increases
CPP overhead that they don't need.
- It hinders us from performing better separation of the module init
code and the generic init code.
So here we introduce similar macros for builtin drivers. Then we
convert builtin drivers (controlled by a bool Kconfig) by making the
following type of mapping:
module_platform_driver() ---> builtin_platform_driver()
module_platform_driver_probe() ---> builtin_platform_driver_probe().
The set of drivers that are converted here are just the ones that
showed up as relying on an implicit include of <module.h> during a
pending header cleanup. So we convert them here vs adding an include
of <module.h> to non-modular code to avoid compile fails. Additonal
conversions can be done asynchronously at any time.
Once again, an unused module_exit function that is removed here
appears in the diffstat as an outlier wrt all the other changes"

Pull power management and ACPI updates from Rafael Wysocki:
"The rework of backlight interface selection API from Hans de Goede
stands out from the number of commits and the number of affected
places perspective. The cpufreq core fixes from Viresh Kumar are
quite significant too as far as the number of commits goes and because
they should reduce CPU online/offline overhead quite a bit in the
majority of cases.
From the new featues point of view, the ACPICA update (to upstream
revision 20150515) adding support for new ACPI 6 material to ACPICA is
the one that matters the most as some new significant features will be
based on it going forward. Also included is an update of the ACPI
device power management core to follow ACPI 6 (which in turn reflects
the Windows' device PM implementation), a PM core extension to support
wakeup interrupts in a more generic way and support for the ACPI _CCA
device configuration object.
The rest is mostly fixes and cleanups all over and some documentation
updates, including new DT bindings for Operating Performance Points.
There is one fix for a regression introduced in the 4.1 cycle, but it
adds quite a number of lines of code, it wasn't really ready before
Thursday and you were on vacation, so I refrained from pushing it on
the last minute for 4.1.
Specifics:
- ACPICA update to upstream revision 20150515 including basic support
for ACPI 6 features: new ACPI tables introduced by ACPI 6 (STAO,
XENV, WPBT, NFIT, IORT), changes related to the other tables (DTRM,
FADT, LPIT, MADT), new predefined names (_BTH, _CR3, _DSD, _LPI,
_MTL, _PRR, _RDI, _RST, _TFP, _TSN), fixes and cleanups (Bob Moore,
Lv Zheng).
- ACPI device power management core code update to follow ACPI 6
which reflects the ACPI device power management implementation in
Windows (Rafael J Wysocki).
- rework of the backlight interface selection logic to reduce the
number of kernel command line options and improve the handling of
DMI quirks that may be involved in that and to make the code
generally more straightforward (Hans de Goede).
- fixes for the ACPI Embedded Controller (EC) driver related to the
handling of EC transactions (Lv Zheng).
- fix for a regression related to the ACPI resources management and
resulting from a recent change of ACPI initialization code ordering
(Rafael J Wysocki).
- fix for a system initialization regression related to ACPI
introduced during the 3.14 cycle and caused by running the code
that switches the platform over to the ACPI mode too early in the
initialization sequence (Rafael J Wysocki).
- support for the ACPI _CCA device configuration object related to
DMA cache coherence (Suravee Suthikulpanit).
- ACPI/APEI fixes and cleanups (Jiri Kosina, Borislav Petkov).
- ACPI battery driver cleanups (Luis Henriques, Mathias Krause).
- ACPI processor driver cleanups (Hanjun Guo).
- cleanups and documentation update related to the ACPI device
properties interface based on _DSD (Rafael J Wysocki).
- ACPI device power management fixes (Rafael J Wysocki).
- assorted cleanups related to ACPI (Dominik Brodowski, Fabian
Frederick, Lorenzo Pieralisi, Mathias Krause, Rafael J Wysocki).
- fix for a long-standing issue causing General Protection Faults to
be generated occasionally on return to user space after resume from
ACPI-based suspend-to-RAM on 32-bit x86 (Ingo Molnar).
- fix to make the suspend core code return -EBUSY consistently in all
cases when system suspend is aborted due to wakeup detection (Ruchi
Kandoi).
- support for automated device wakeup IRQ handling allowing drivers
to make their PM support more starightforward (Tony Lindgren).
- new tracepoints for suspend-to-idle tracing and rework of the
prepare/complete callbacks tracing in the PM core (Todd E Brandt,
Rafael J Wysocki).
- wakeup sources framework enhancements (Jin Qian).
- new macro for noirq system PM callbacks (Grygorii Strashko).
- assorted cleanups related to system suspend (Rafael J Wysocki).
- cpuidle core cleanups to make the code more efficient (Rafael J
Wysocki).
- powernv/pseries cpuidle driver update (Shilpasri G Bhat).
- cpufreq core fixes related to CPU online/offline that should reduce
the overhead of these operations quite a bit, unless the CPU in
question is physically going away (Viresh Kumar, Saravana Kannan).
- serialization of cpufreq governor callbacks to avoid race
conditions in some cases (Viresh Kumar).
- intel_pstate driver fixes and cleanups (Doug Smythies, Prarit
Bhargava, Joe Konno).
- cpufreq driver (arm_big_little, cpufreq-dt, qoriq) updates (Sudeep
Holla, Felipe Balbi, Tang Yuantian).
- assorted cleanups in cpufreq drivers and core (Shailendra Verma,
Fabian Frederick, Wang Long).
- new Device Tree bindings for representing Operating Performance
Points (Viresh Kumar).
- updates for the common clock operations support code in the PM core
(Rajendra Nayak, Geert Uytterhoeven).
- PM domains core code update (Geert Uytterhoeven).

This is a preparation patch for the backlight interface selection logic
cleanup, there are 2 reasons to not always build the video_detect code
into the kernel:
1) In order for the video_detect.c to also deal with / select native
backlight interfaces on win8 systems, instead of doing this in video.c
where it does not belong, video_detect.c needs to call into the backlight
class code. Which cannot be done if it is builtin and the blacklight class
is not.
2) Currently all the platform/x86 drivers which have quirks to prefer
the vendor driver over acpi-video call acpi_video_unregister_backlight()
to remove the acpi-video backlight interface, this logic really belongs
in video_detect.c, which will cause video_detect.c to depend on symbols of
video.c and video.c already depends on video_detect.c symbols, so they
really need to be a single module.
Note that this commits make 2 changes so as to maintain 100% kernel
commandline compatibility:
1) The __setup call for the acpi_backlight= handling is moved to
acpi/util.c as __setup may only be used by code which is alwasy builtin
2) video.c is renamed to acpi_video.c so that it can be combined with
video_detect.c into video.ko
This commit also makes changes to drivers/platform/x86/Kconfig to ensure
that drivers which use acpi_video_backlight_support() from video_detect.c,
will not be built-in when acpi_video is not built in. This also changes
some "select" uses to "depends on" to avoid dependency loops.

acpi_video_dmi_demote_vendor() is going away as part of the cleanup of
the code for determinging which backlight class driver(s) to register.
The call to acpi_video_dmi_demote_vendor() was meant to undo the call to
acpi_video_dmi_promote_vendor() when the gmux device is removed, this is
questionable though since the promote call sets a flag, not a counter, so
the demote call may undo a promoto done elsewhere. Moreover in practice
this is a nop since the gmux device is never removed, and the flag is only
checked when acpi/video.ko gets loaded, so even if the user manually
removes apple-gmux the demote call is still a nop as video.ko will already
have loaded by this time.
Also note that none of the other users of acpi_video_dmi_promote_vendor()
use acpi_video_dmi_demote_vendor().
If we ever encounter a system with a gmux where the acpi-video interface
should be used, then the proper fix would be to dmi-blacklist the gmux
driver on that system.

acpi_video_unregister() not only unregisters the acpi-video backlight
interface but also unregisters the acpi video bus event listener, causing
e.g. brightness hotkey presses to no longer generate keypress events.
The unregistering of the acpi video bus event listener usually is
undesirable, which by itself is a good reason to switch to
acpi_video_unregister_backlight().
Another problem with using acpi_video_unregister() rather then using
acpi_video_unregister_backlight() is that on systems with an intel video
opregion (most systems) and a broken_acpi_video quirk, whether or not
the acpi video bus event listener actually gets unregistered depends on
module load ordering:
Scenario a:
1) acpi/video.ko gets loaded (*), does not do acpi_video_register as there
is an intel opregion.
2) intel.ko gets loaded, calls acpi_video_register() which registers both
the listener and the acpi backlight interface
3) samsung-laptop.ko gets loaded, calls acpi_video_unregister() causing
both the listener and the acpi backlight interface to unregister
Scenario b:
1) acpi/video.ko gets loaded (*), does not do acpi_video_register as there
is an intel opregion.
2) samsung-laptop.ko gets loaded, calls acpi_video_dmi_promote_vendor(),
calls acpi_video_unregister(), which is a nop since acpi_video_register
has not yet been called
2) intel.ko gets loaded, calls acpi_video_register() which registers
the listener, but does not register the acpi backlight interface due to
the call to the preciding call to acpi_video_dmi_promote_vendor()
*) acpi/video.ko always loads first as both other modules depend on it.
So we end up with or without an acpi video bus event listener depending
on module load ordering, not good.
Switching to using acpi_video_unregister_backlight() means that independ
of ordering we will always have an acpi video bus event listener fixing
this.
Note that this commit means that systems without an intel video opregion,
and systems which were hitting scenario a wrt module load ordering, are
now getting an acpi video bus event listener while before they were not!
On some systems this may cause the brightness hotkeys to start generating
keypresses while before they were not (good), while on other systems this
may cause the brightness hotkeys to generate multiple keypress events for
a single press (not so good). Since on most systems the acpi video bus is
the canonical source for brightness events I believe that the latter case
will needs to be handled on a case by case basis by filtering out the
duplicate keypresses at the other source for them.

This driver is configured with a Kconfig option that is
declared as a bool. Hence it is not possible for the code
to be built as modular. However the code is currently using
the module_platform_driver() macro for driver registration.
While this currently works, we really don't want to be including
the module.h header in non-modular code, which we'll be forced
to do, pending some upcoming code relocation from init.h into
module.h. So we fix it now by using the non-modular equivalent.
And since we've already established that the code is non-modular,
we can completely drop any code relating to module_exit.

to get the Yoga 3 11 to work. The ideapad_rfk_set function is meant
to send a command to the embedded controller through ACPI, but
as of c1f73658ed, it sends the index of the rfkill device instead
of the command, and ignores the opcode field.
This changes it back to the original behavior, which indeed
flips the rfkill state as seen in the debugfs interface.

Chromebooks can have more than one Embedded Controller so the
cros_ec device id has to be incremented for each EC registered.
Add a new structure to represent multiple EC as different char
devices (e.g: /dev/cros_ec, /dev/cros_pd). It connects to
cros_ec_device and allows sysfs inferface for cros_pd.
Also reduce number of allocated objects, make chromeos sysfs
class object a static and add refcounting to prevent object
deletion while command is in progress.

The MFD driver should only have the logic to instantiate its child devices
and setup any shared resources that will be used by the subdevices drivers.
The cros_ec MFD is more complex than expected since it also has helpers to
communicate with the EC. So the driver will only get more bigger as other
protocols are supported in the future. So move the communication protocol
helpers to its own driver as drivers/platform/chrome/cros_ec_proto.c.

Commit 1b84f2a4cd ("mfd: cros_ec: Use fixed size arrays to transfer
data with the EC") modified the struct cros_ec_command fields to not
use pointers for the input and output buffers and use fixed length
arrays instead.
This change was made because the cros_ec ioctl API uses that struct
cros_ec_command to allow user-space to send commands to the EC and
to get data from the EC. So using pointers made the API not 64-bit
safe. Unfortunately this approach was not flexible enough for all
the use-cases since there may be a need to send larger commands
on newer versions of the EC command protocol.
So to avoid to choose a constant length that it may be too big for
most commands and thus wasting memory and CPU cycles on copy from
and to user-space or having a size that is too small for some big
commands, use a zero-length array that is both 64-bit safe and
flexible. The same buffer is used for both output and input data
so the maximum of these values should be used to allocate it.

Until now module dell-laptop registered rfkill device which used i8042
filter function for receiving HW switch rfkill events (handling special
keycode).
But for some dell laptops there is native ACPI driver dell-rbtn which can
receive rfkill events (without i8042 hooks).
So this patch will combine best from both sides. It will use native ACPI
driver dell-rbtn for receiving events and dell-laptop SMBIOS interface for
enabling or disabling radio devices. If ACPI driver or device will not be
available fallback to i8042 filter function will be used.
Patch also changes module_init() to late_initcall() to ensure that init
function will be called after initializing dell-rbtn.c driver.

acpi_video_unregister() not only unregisters the acpi-video backlight
interface but also unregisters the acpi video bus event listener, causing
e.g. brightness hotkey presses to no longer generate keypress events.
The unregistering of the acpi video bus event listener usually is
undesirable, which by itself is a good reason to switch to
acpi_video_unregister_backlight().
3) samsung-laptop.ko gets loaded, calls acpi_video_unregister() causing
both the listener and the acpi backlight interface to unregister
Scenario b:
1) acpi/video.ko gets loaded (*), does not do acpi_video_register as there
is an intel opregion.
2) samsung-laptop.ko gets loaded, calls acpi_video_dmi_promote_vendor(),
calls acpi_video_unregister(), which is a nop since acpi_video_register
has not yet been called
Since on most systems the acpi video bus is
the canonical source for brightness events I believe that the latter case
will needs to be handled on a case by case basis by filtering out the
duplicate keypresses at the other source for them.

pvpanic was not properly detected when _STA was missing.
ACPI 6.0 April 2015, 6.3.7 _STA (Status)
If a device object (including the processor object) does not have an
_STA object, then OSPM assumes that all of the above bits are set
(i.e., the device is present, enabled, shown in the UI, and
functioning).
Not adhering to the specification made pvpanic dormant under QEMU 2.3.
The original patch used acpi_bus_get_status_handle, which was not
being exported, so module build blew up; switch to acpi_bus_get_status
and use the status it populates.
Populated status is a bitfield so we can make the code self-documenting.
We do not check 'present' because 'enabled' has to be false in that case
by specification. Older QEMUs set 0xff to status and newer ones do 0xb.

As the first argument of gf_write64() was of type unsigned long, and as
some calls to gf_write64() were casting the first argument from void *
to u64 the compiler and/or sparse were printing warnings for casts of
wrong sizes when compiling for i386.
This patch changes the type of the first argument of gf_write64() to
const void *, and update calls to the function. This change fixed the
warnings and allowed to remove casts from 3 calls to gf_write64().
In addition gf_write64() was renamed to gf_write_ptr() as the name was
misleading because it only writes 32 bits on 32 bit systems.

The conversion to DEVICE_ATTR_* macros failed to fixup a few cases where
the old attribute names didn't match the show/store function names.
Instead of renaming the functions, the attributes were renamed. This
caused an unintentional API change. The hwmon required 'name' attribute
were among the renamed attribute, causing libsensors to fail to detect
the hwmon device at all.
Fix by using the DEVICE_ATTR macro for these attributes, allowing the
show/store functions to keep their system specific prefixes.

This patch is partially based on Felipe Contrera's earlier patch, that
was discussed here: https://lkml.org/lkml/2013/10/8/800
Some problems of that patch are solved, now:
1) The main obstacle for the earlier patch seemed to be the use of
virt_to_phys, which is accepted, now
2) random memory corruption occurred on my notebook, thus DMA-able memory
is allocated now, which solves this problem
3) hwmon interface is used instead of the thermal interface, as a
hwmon device is already set up by this driver and seemed more
appropriate than the thermal interface
4) Calling the ACPI-functions was modularized thus it's possible to call
some multifunctions easily, now (by using
asus_wmi_evaluate_method_agfn).
Unfortunately the WMI doesn't support controlling both fans on
a dual-fan notebook because of an restriction in the acpi-method
"SFNS", that is callable through the wmi. If "SFNV" would be called
directly even dual fan configurations could be controlled, but not by using
wmi.
Speed readings only work on auto-mode, thus "-1" will be reported in
manual mode.
Additionally the speed readings are reported as hundreds of RPM thus
they are not too precise.
This patch is tested only on one notebook (N551JK) but a similar module,
that contained some code to try to control the second fan also, was
reported to work on an UX32VD, at least for the first fan.
As Felipe already mentioned the low-level functions are described here:

Currently you can specify the weight of the cooling device in the device
tree but that information is not populated to the
thermal_bind_params where the fair share governor expects it to
be. The of thermal zone device doesn't have a thermal_bind_params
structure and arguably it's better to pass the weight inside the
thermal_instance as it is specific to the bind of a cooling device to a
thermal zone parameter.
Core thermal code is fixed to populate the weight in the instance from
the thermal_bind_params, so platform code that was passing the weight
inside the thermal_bind_params continue to work seamlessly.
While we are at it, create a default value for the weight parameter for
those thermal zones that currently don't define it and remove the
hardcoded default in of-thermal.

Here's a set of updates to the Chrome OS platform drivers for this merge window.
Main new things this cycle is:
- Driver changes to expose the lightbar to users. With this, you can make your
own blinkenlights on Chromebook Pixels.
- Changes in the way that the atmel_mxt trackpads are probed. The laptop driver
is trying to be smart and not instantiate the devices that don't answer to
probe. For the trackpad that can come up in two modes (bootloader or regular),
this gets complicated since the driver already knows how to handle the two
modes including the actual addresses used. So now the laptop driver needs to
know more too, instantiating the regular address even if the bootloader one
is the probe that passed.
- mfd driver improvements by Javier Martines Canillas, and a few bugfixes
from him, kbuild and myself.

The new Atmel MXT driver expects i2c client's address contain the
primary (main address) of the chip, and calculates the expected
bootloader address form the primary address. Unfortunately chrome_laptop
does probe the devices and if touchpad (or touchscreen, or both) comes
up in bootloader mode the i2c device gets instantiated with the
bootloader address which confuses the driver.
To work around this issue let's probe the primary address first. If the
device is not detected at the primary address we'll probe alternative
addresses as "dummy" devices. If any of them are found, destroy the
dummy client and instantiate client with proper name at primary address
still.

commit a39f46df33 ("toshiba_acpi: Fix regression caused by backlight extra
check code") causes the backlight to no longer work on the Toshiba Z30,
reverting that commit fixes this but restores the original issue fixed
by that commit.
Looking at the toshiba_acpi backlight code for a fix for this I noticed that
the toshiba code is the only code under platform/x86 which unconditionally
registers a vendor acpi backlight interface, without checking for acpi_video
backlight support first.
This commit adds the necessary checks bringing toshiba_acpi in line with the
other drivers, and fixing the Z30 regression without needing to revert the
commit causing it.
Chances are that there will be some Toshiba models which have a non working
acpi-video implementation while the toshiba vendor backlight interface does
work, this commit adds an empty dmi_id table where such systems can be added,
this is identical to how other drivers handle such systems.

This patch adds the support for the configuration of the keyboard
backlight on supported Dell laptops.
With this patch it is possible to set:
* keyboard backlight level
* timeout after which the backlight will be automatically turned off
* input activity triggers (keyboard, touchpad, mouse) that enable the backlight
* ambient light settings
The settings are exposed via /sys/class/leds/dell::kbd_backlight/
The code is based on the newly released documentation by Dell in the
libsmbios project.

Bug 93911 reported a broken handling of the BT device, causing the
driver to get stuck in a loop enabling/disabling the device whenever
the device is deactivated by the kill switch as follows:
1. The user activated the kill switch, causing the system to generate
a 0x90 (status change) event and disabling the BT device.
2. The driver catches the event and re-enables the BT device.
3. The system detects the device being activated, but since the kill
switch is activated, disables the BT device (again) and generates
a 0x90 event (again).
4. Repeat from 2.
This patch adds an extra check to verify the status of the BT device,
returning silently if it is already activated.
Also, checks and returns appropriate error values while evaluating
the AUSB and BTPO methods.

As GMUX depends on IO for iGP to be enabled and active, lock the IO at
vgaarb level. This should prevent GPU driver for dGPU to disable IO for
iGP while it tries to own legacy VGA IO.
This fixes usage of backlight control combined with closed nvidia
driver on some Apple dual-GPU (intel/nvidia) systems.
On those systems loading nvidia driver disables intel IO decoding,
disabling the gmux backlight controls as a side effect.
Prior to commits moving boot_vga from (optional) efifb to less optional
vgaarb this mis-behavior could be avoided by using right kernel config
(efifb enabled but vgaarb disabled).
This patch explicitly does not try to trigger vgaarb changes in order
to avoid confusing already running graphics drivers. If IO has been
mis-configured by vgaarb gmux will thus fail to probe.
It is expected to load/probe gmux prior to graphics drivers.

Change the ownership of power_supply structure from each driver
implementing the class to the power supply core.
The patch changes power_supply_register() function thus all drivers
implementing power supply class are adjusted.
Each driver provides the implementation of power supply. However it
should not be the owner of power supply class instance because it is
exposed by core to other subsystems with power_supply_get_by_name().
These other subsystems have no knowledge when the driver will unregister
the power supply. This leads to several issues when driver is unbound -
mostly because user of power supply accesses freed memory.
Instead let the core own the instance of struct 'power_supply'. Other
users of this power supply will still access valid memory because it
will be freed when device reference count reaches 0. Currently this
means "it will leak" but power_supply_put() call in next patches will
solve it.
This solves invalid memory references in following race condition
scenario:
Thread 1: charger manager
Thread 2: power supply driver, used by charger manager
THREAD 1 (charger manager) THREAD 2 (power supply driver)
========================== ==============================
psy = power_supply_get_by_name()
Driver unbind, .remove
power_supply_unregister()
Device fully removed
psy->get_property()
The 'get_property' call is executed in invalid context because the driver was
unbound and struct 'power_supply' memory was freed.
This could be observed easily with charger manager driver (here compiled
with max17040 fuel gauge):
$ cat /sys/devices/virtual/power_supply/cm-battery/capacity &
$ echo "1-0036" > /sys/bus/i2c/drivers/max17040/unbind

Add new structure 'power_supply_config' for holding run-time
initialization data like of_node, supplies and private driver data.
The power_supply_register() function is changed so all power supply
drivers need updating.
When registering the power supply this new 'power_supply_config' should be
used instead of directly initializing 'struct power_supply'. This allows
changing the ownership of power_supply structure from driver to the
power supply core in next patches.
When a driver does not use of_node or supplies then it should use NULL
as config. If driver uses of_node or supplies then it should allocate
config on stack and initialize it with proper values.

The return value of power_supply_register() call was not checked and
even on error probe() function returned 0. If registering failed then
during unbind the driver tried to unregister power supply which was not
actually registered.
This could lead to memory corruption because power_supply_unregister()
unconditionally cleans up given power supply.
Fix this by checking return status of power_supply_register() call. In
case of failure, clean up sysfs entries and fail the probe.

This adds some sysfs entries to provide userspace control of the

the lightbar controls if the device actually exists.
To prevent DoS attacks, this interface is limited to 20 accesses/second,

On Chromebooks without a lightbar, this should have no effect. On the

Chromebooks have an Embedded Controller (EC) that is used to
implement various functions such as keyboard, power and battery.
The AP can communicate with the EC through different bus types
such as I2C, SPI or LPC.
The cros_ec mfd driver is then composed of a core driver that
register the sub-devices as mfd cells and provide a high level
communication interface that is used by the rest of the kernel
and bus specific interfaces modules.
Each connection method then has its own driver, which register
with the EC driver interface-agnostic interface.
Currently, there are drivers to communicate with the EC over
I2C and SPI and this driver adds support for LPC.

Intel's Quark X1000 SoC contains a set of registers called
Isolated Memory Regions. IMRs are accessed over the IOSF mailbox
interface. IMRs are areas carved out of memory that define
read/write access rights to the various system agents within the
Quark system. For a given agent in the system it is possible to
specify if that agent may read or write an area of memory
defined by an IMR with a granularity of 1 KiB.
Quark_SecureBootPRM_330234_001.pdf section 4.5 details the
concept of IMRs quark-x1000-datasheet.pdf section 12.7.4 details
the implementation of IMRs in silicon.
eSRAM flush, CPU Snoop write-only, CPU SMM Mode, CPU non-SMM
mode, RMU and PCIe Virtual Channels (VC0 and VC1) can have
individual read/write access masks applied to them for a given
memory region in Quark X1000. This enables IMRs to treat each
memory transaction type listed above on an individual basis and
to filter appropriately based on the IMR access mask for the
memory region. Quark supports eight IMRs.
Since all of the DMA capable SoC components in the X1000 are
mapped to VC0 it is possible to define sections of memory as
invalid for DMA write operations originating from Ethernet, USB,
SD and any other DMA capable south-cluster component on VC0.
Similarly it is possible to mark kernel memory as non-SMM mode
read/write only or to mark BIOS runtime memory as SMM mode
accessible only depending on the particular memory footprint on
a given system.
On an IMR violation Quark SoC X1000 systems are configured to
reset the system, so ensuring that the IMR memory map is
consistent with the EFI provided memory map is critical to
ensure no IMR violations reset the system.
The API for accessing IMRs is based on MTRR code but doesn't
provide a /proc or /sys interface to manipulate IMRs. Defining
the size and extent of IMRs is exclusively the domain of
in-kernel code.
Quark firmware sets up a series of locked IMRs around pieces of
memory that firmware owns such as ACPI runtime data. During boot
a series of unlocked IMRs are placed around items in memory to
guarantee no DMA modification of those items can take place.
Grub also places an unlocked IMR around the kernel boot params
data structure and compressed kernel image. It is necessary for
the kernel to tear down all unlocked IMRs in order to ensure
that the kernel's view of memory passed via the EFI memory map
is consistent with the IMR memory map. Without tearing down all
unlocked IMRs on boot transitory IMRs such as those used to
protect the compressed kernel image will cause IMR violations and system reboots.
The IMR init code tears down all unlocked IMRs and sets a
protective IMR around the kernel .text and .rodata as one
contiguous block. This sanitizes the IMR memory map with respect
to the EFI memory map and protects the read-only portions of the
kernel from unwarranted DMA access.

Recent Toshiba laptops that come with the new keyboard layout have
the Special Functions (hotkeys) enabled by default, which, in order to
access the F{1-12} keys, you need to press the FN-F{1-12} key to
access such key.
This patch adds support to toggle the Keyboard Functions operation
mode by creating the sysfs entry "kbd_functions_keys", accepting only
two parameters, 0 to set the "Normal Operation" mode and 1 to set the
"Special Functions" mode, however, everytime the mode is toggled, a
restart is needed.
In the "Normal Operation" mode, the F{1-12} keys are as usual and
the hotkeys are accessed via FN-F{1-12}.
In the "Special Functions" mode, the F{1-12} keys trigger the hotkey
and the F{1-12} keys are accessed via FN-F{1-12}.

Some Toshiba laptops do not come with the ECO led installed, however,
the driver is registering support for it when it should not.
This patch makes the toshiba_eco_mode_available function more robust
in detecting ECO led capabilities, not registering the led on laptops
that do not support it and registering the led when it really does.
The ECO led function now returns 0x8e00 (Not Installed) by querying
with in[3] = 0, whenever theres no physical LED installed, and
returning 0x8300 (Input Data Error) when it is, however, there are
some BIOSes that have stub function calls not returning anything and
and the LED device was being registered too, hence the change of the
default return value from 1 to 0.

Some Samsung laptops with SABI3 delay the sleep for 10 seconds after
the lid is closed and do not wake up from sleep after the lid is opened.
A SABI command is needed to enable the better behavior.
Command = 0x6e, d0 = 0x81 enables this behavior. Returns d0 = 0x01.
Command = 0x6e, d0 = 0x80 disables this behavior. Returns d0 = 0x00.
Command = 0x6d and any d0 queries the state. This returns:
d0 = 0x00000*01, d1 = 0x00, d2 = 0x00, d3 = 0x0* when it is enabled.
d0 = 0x00000*00, d1 = 0x00, d2 = 0x00, d3 = 0x0* when it is disabled.
Where * is 0 - laptop has never slept or hibernated after switch on,
1 - laptop has hibernated just before,
2 - laptop has slept just before.
Patch addresses bug https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=75901 .
It adds a sysfs attribute lid_handling with a description and also an
addition to the quirks structure to enable the mode by default.
A user with another laptop in the bug report says that "power button has
to be pressed twice to wake the machine" when he or she enabled the mode
manually using the SABI command. Therefore, it is enabled by default
only for the single laptop that I have tested.

This was "toshiba_acpi: Change sci_open function return value"
Some Toshiba laptops have "poorly implemented" SCI calls on their
BIOSes and are not checking for sci_{open, close} calls, therefore,
the sci_open function is failing and making some of the supported
features unavailable (kbd backlight, touchpad, illumination, etc.).
This patch checks whether we receive TOS_NOT_SUPPORTED and returns
1, making the supported features work on such laptops.
In the case that some laptops really do not support the SCI, all the
SCI dependent functions check for TOS_NOT_SUPPORTED, and thus, not
registering support for the queried feature.

Since kernel 3.14 the backlight control has been broken on various Samsung
Atom based netbooks. This has been bisected and this problem happens since
commit b35684b8fa ("drm/i915: do full backlight setup at enable time")
This has been reported and discussed in detail here:
http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/intel-gfx/2014-July/049395.html
Unfortunately no-one has been able to fix this. This only affects Samsung
Atom netbooks, and the Linux kernel and the BIOS of those laptops have never
worked well together. All affected laptops already have a quirk to avoid using
the standard acpi-video interface and instead use the samsung specific SABI
interface which samsung-laptop uses. It seems that recent fixes to the i915
driver have also broken backlight control through the SABI interface.
The intel_backlight driver OTOH works fine, and also allows for finer grained
backlight control. So add a new use_native_backlight quirk, and replace the
broken_acpi_video quirk with this quirk for affected models. This new quirk
disables acpi-video as before and also stops samsung-laptop from registering
the SABI based samsung_laptop backlight interface, leaving only the working
intel_backlight interface.
This commit enables this new quirk for 3 models which are known to be affected,
chances are that it needs to be used on other models too.

thinkpad-acpi:
acpi: Remove _OSI(Linux) for ThinkPads
thinkpad-acpi: Try to use full software mute control
Signed-off-by: Darren Hart <dvhart@linux.intel.com>
ThinkPads have hardware volume controls and three buttons to control
them. (These are separate from the standard mixer.) By default,
the buttons are:
- Mute: Mutes the hardware volume control and, on some models,
generates KEY_MUTE.
- Up: Unmutes, generates KEY_VOLUMEUP, and increases volume if
applicable. (Newer thinkpads only have hardware mute/unmute.)
- Down: Unmutes, generates KEY_VOLUMEDOWN, and decreases volume
if applicable.
This behavior is unfortunate, since modern userspace will also
handle the hotkeys and change the other mixer. If the software
mixer is muted and the hardware mixer is unmuted and you push mute,
hilarity ensues as they both switch state.
Rather than adding a lot of complex ALSA integration to fix this,
just disable the special ThinkPad volume controls when possible.
This turns the mute and volume buttons into regular buttons, and
standard software controls will work as expected.
ALSA already knows about the mute light on models with a mute light,
so everything should just work.
This should also allow us to remove _OSI(Linux) for all ThinkPads.
For future reference: It turns out that we can ask ACPI for one of
three behaviors directly on very new models. They are "latch" (the
default), "none" (no automatic control), and "toggle" (mute unmutes
when muted). All of the modes besides "none" seem to be a bit
buggy, though, and there doesn't seem to be a consistent way to get
any notification when the HW mute state is changed.

This patch adds support for configuring keyboard backlight settings on supported
Dell laptops. It exports kernel leds interface and uses Dell SMBIOS tokens or
keyboard class interface.
With this patch it is possible to set:
* keyboard backlight level
* timeout after which will be backlight automatically turned off
* input activity triggers (keyboard, touchpad, mouse) which enable backlight
* ambient light settings
Settings are exported via sysfs:
/sys/class/leds/dell::kbd_backlight/
Code is based on newly released documentation by Dell in libsmbios project.

The WMI buffer can contain multiple events. First value in buffer is
length of event followed by data of specified length. After that is next
length and next data. When length is zero then there is no more events
in bufffer.
This patch adds support for processing all events in buffer (not only
first) and parse more event types (not only hotkey events). Because of
variable length of events sometimes BIOS fills more hotkeys (or other
values) into single WMI event. In this case this patch also processes
these multiple hotkeys (and not only first one).
Some event types are just ignored because kernel is not interested in
them (e.g. NIC Link status, battery unplug, ...).
This patch is based on DSDT table from Dell Latitude E6440. Code should
be backward compatible so will process other events of old types same as
before this patch.
This patch also fixes a problem with unknown WMI event messages being
written to the log. Now all known events are parsed and those which are
not interesting to the kernel are dropped without an unknown WMI event
message.

- Rework the handling of wakeup IRQs by the IRQ core such that
all of them will be switched over to "wakeup" mode in
suspend_device_irqs() and in that mode the first interrupt
will abort system suspend in progress or wake up the system
if already in suspend-to-idle (or equivalent) without executing
any interrupt handlers. Among other things that eliminates the
wakeup-related motivation to use the IRQF_NO_SUSPEND interrupt
flag with interrupts which don't really need it and should not
use it (Thomas Gleixner and Rafael J Wysocki).
- Switch over ACPI to handling wakeup interrupts with the help

- ACPICA update to upstream version 20140828. Included are updates
related to the SRAT and GTDT tables and the _PSx methods are in

- Add _OSI("Darwin") support to the ACPI core (unfortunately, that
can't really be done in a straightforward way) to prevent
Thunderbolt from being turned off on Apple systems after boot

Battery Subsystem (SBS) driver to work correctly with Apple
platforms (Matthew Garrett and Andreas Noever).
- ACPI LPSS (Low-Power Subsystem) driver update cleaning up the
code, adding support for 133MHz I2C source clock on Intel Baytrail
to it and making it avoid using UART RTS override with Auto Flow

- ACPI backlight updates removing the video_set_use_native_backlight
quirk which is not necessary any more, making the code check the
list of output devices returned by the _DOD method to avoid
creating acpi_video interfaces that won't work and adding a quirk
for Lenovo Ideapad Z570 (Hans de Goede, Aaron Lu and Stepan Bujnak).
- New Win8 ACPI OSI quirks for some Dell laptops (Edward Lin).
- Assorted ACPI code cleanups (Fabian Frederick, Rasmus Villemoes,
Sudip Mukherjee, Yijing Wang, and Zhang Rui).

- cpuidle support for DT-based idle states infrastructure, new
ARM64 cpuidle driver, cpuidle core cleanups (Lorenzo Pieralisi,

- ARM big.LITTLE cpuidle driver updates: support for DT-based

Apart from this we have a traditional ACPICA update, this time to
upstream version 20140828 and a few ACPI wakeup interrupts handling
patches on top of the general rework mentioned above. There also are
several cpufreq commits including renaming the cpufreq-cpu0 driver to
cpufreq-dt, as this is what implements generic DT-based cpufreq
support, and a new DT-based idle states infrastructure for cpuidle.
In addition to that, the ACPI LPSS driver is updated, ACPI support for
Apple machines is improved, a few bugs are fixed and a few cleanups
are made all over.
Finally, the Adaptive Voltage Scaling (AVS) subsystem now has a tree
maintained by Kevin Hilman that will be merged through the PM tree.
Numbers-wise, the generic PM domains update takes the lead this time
with 32 non-merge commits, second is cpufreq (15 commits) and the 3rd
place goes to the wakeup interrupts handling rework (13 commits).
Specifics:
- Rework the handling of wakeup IRQs by the IRQ core such that all of
them will be switched over to "wakeup" mode in suspend_device_irqs()
and in that mode the first interrupt will abort system suspend in
progress or wake up the system if already in suspend-to-idle (or
equivalent) without executing any interrupt handlers. Among other
things that eliminates the wakeup-related motivation to use the
IRQF_NO_SUSPEND interrupt flag with interrupts which don't really
need it and should not use it (Thomas Gleixner and Rafael Wysocki)
- Switch over ACPI to handling wakeup interrupts with the help of the
new mechanism introduced by the above IRQ core rework (Rafael Wysocki)
- Rework the core generic PM domains code to eliminate code that's
not used, add DT support and add a generic mechanism by which
devices can be added to PM domains automatically during enumeration
(Ulf Hansson, Geert Uytterhoeven and Tomasz Figa).
- Add debugfs-based mechanics for debugging generic PM domains
(Maciej Matraszek).
- ACPICA update to upstream version 20140828. Included are updates
related to the SRAT and GTDT tables and the _PSx methods are in the
METHOD_NAME list now (Bob Moore and Hanjun Guo).
- Add _OSI("Darwin") support to the ACPI core (unfortunately, that
can't really be done in a straightforward way) to prevent
Thunderbolt from being turned off on Apple systems after boot (or
after resume from system suspend) and rework the ACPI Smart Battery
Subsystem (SBS) driver to work correctly with Apple platforms
(Matthew Garrett and Andreas Noever).
- ACPI LPSS (Low-Power Subsystem) driver update cleaning up the code,
adding support for 133MHz I2C source clock on Intel Baytrail to it
and making it avoid using UART RTS override with Auto Flow Control
(Heikki Krogerus).
- ACPI backlight updates removing the video_set_use_native_backlight
quirk which is not necessary any more, making the code check the
list of output devices returned by the _DOD method to avoid
creating acpi_video interfaces that won't work and adding a quirk
for Lenovo Ideapad Z570 (Hans de Goede, Aaron Lu and Stepan Bujnak)
- New Win8 ACPI OSI quirks for some Dell laptops (Edward Lin)
- Assorted ACPI code cleanups (Fabian Frederick, Rasmus Villemoes,
Sudip Mukherjee, Yijing Wang, and Zhang Rui)
- cpufreq core updates and cleanups (Viresh Kumar, Preeti U Murthy,
Rasmus Villemoes)
- cpufreq driver updates: cpufreq-cpu0/cpufreq-dt (driver name change
among other things), ppc-corenet, powernv (Viresh Kumar, Preeti U
Murthy, Shilpasri G Bhat, Lucas Stach)
- cpuidle support for DT-based idle states infrastructure, new ARM64
cpuidle driver, cpuidle core cleanups (Lorenzo Pieralisi, Rasmus
Villemoes)
- ARM big.LITTLE cpuidle driver updates: support for DT-based
initialization and Exynos5800 compatible string (Lorenzo Pieralisi,
Kevin Hilman)
- Rework of the test_suspend kernel command line argument and a new
trace event for console resume (Srinivas Pandruvada, Todd E Brandt)
- Second attempt to optimize swsusp_free() (hibernation core) to make
it avoid going through all PFNs which may be way too slow on some
systems (Joerg Roedel)
- devfreq updates (Paul Bolle, Punit Agrawal, Ãrjan Eide).
- rockchip-io Adaptive Voltage Scaling (AVS) driver and AVS entry
update in MAINTAINERS (Heiko Stübner, Kevin Hilman)
- PM core fix related to clock management (Geert Uytterhoeven)
- PM core's sysfs code cleanup (Johannes Berg)"

cycle:
- Increase the default ARCH_NR_GPIO from 256 to 512. This
was done to avoid having a custom <asm/gpio.h> header for
the x86 architecture - GPIO is custom and complicated
enough as it is already! We want to move to a radix to
store the descriptors going forward, and finally get rid
of this fixed array size altogether.
- Endgame patching of the gpio_remove() semantics initiated
by Abdoulaye Berthe. It is not accepted by the system that
the removal of a GPIO chip fails during e.g. reboot or
shutdown, and therefore the return value has now painfully
been refactored away. For special cases like GPIO expanders
on a hot-pluggable bus like USB, we may later add some
gpiochip_try_remove() call, but for the cases we have now,
return values are moot.
- Some incremental refactoring of the gpiolib core and ACPI
GPIO library for more descriptor usage.
- Refactor the chained IRQ handler set-up method to handle
also threaded, nested interrupts and set up the parent IRQ
correctly. Switch STMPE and TC3589x drivers to use this
registration method.
- Add a .irq_not_threaded flag to the struct gpio_chip, so
that also GPIO expanders that block but are still not
using threaded IRQ handlers.
- New drivers for the ARM64 X-Gene SoC GPIO controller.
- The syscon GPIO driver has been improved to handle the
"DSP GPIO" found on the TI Keystone 2 SoC:s.
- ADNP driver switched to use gpiolib irqchip helpers.
- Refactor the DWAPB driver to support being instantiated
from and MFD cell (platform device).
- Incremental feature improvement in the Zynq, MCP23S08,
DWAPB, OMAP, Xilinx and Crystalcove drivers.
- Various minor fixes.

With the introduction of the new keyboard backlight
implementation, the *_timeout_store function is
broken, as it only supports the first kbd_type.
This patch adapts such function for the new kbd_type,
as well as converts from using sscanf to kstrtoint.

Currently the HCI/SCI read/write functions are returning
the status of the ACPI call and also assigning the
returned value of the HCI/SCI function, however, only
the HCI/SCI status is being checked.
This patch changes such functions, returning the value
of the HCI/SCI function instead of the ACPI call status,
eliminating one parameter, and returning something
useful that indeed is being checked.

The return codes are split in between HCI/SCI prefixes,
but they are shared (used) by both interfaces, mixing
hci_read/write calls with SCI_* return codes, and
sci_read/write calls with HCI_* ones.
This patch changes the prefix of the return codes
definitions, dropping the HCI/SCI naming and instead
replacing it with TOS (for TOShiba).

The function name hci_raw was used before to reflect
a raw (read/write) call to Toshiba's Hardware
Configuration Interface (HCI), however, since the
introduction of the System Configuration Interface
(SCI), that "name" no longer applies.
This patch changes the name of that function to
tci_raw (for Toshiba Configuration Interface), and
change the comments about it.
Also, the HCI_WORDS definition was changed to TCI_RAW,
to better reflect that we're no longer using pure HCI
calls, but a combination of HCI and SCI, which form
part of the Toshiba Configuration Interface.
