utilize the above kernel side changes):
- Lots of 'perf trace' enhancements:
. Make 'perf trace' command line arguments consistent with
'perf record', by David Ahern.
. Allow specifying syscalls a la strace, by Arnaldo Carvalho de Melo.
. Add --verbose and -o/--output options, by Arnaldo Carvalho de Melo.
. Support ! in -e expressions, to filter a list of syscalls,
by Arnaldo Carvalho de Melo.
. Arg formatting improvements to allow masking arguments in
syscalls such as futex and open, where the some arguments are
ignored and thus should not be printed depending on other args,
by Arnaldo Carvalho de Melo.
. Beautify futex open, openat, open_by_handle_at, lseek and futex
syscalls, by Arnaldo Carvalho de Melo.
. Add option to analyze events in a file versus live, so that
one can do:
[root@zoo ~]# perf record -a -e raw_syscalls:* sleep 1
[ perf record: Woken up 0 times to write data ]
[ perf record: Captured and wrote 25.150 MB perf.data (~1098836 samples) ]

far beautifiers for mmap, madvise, syscall return values,
by Arnaldo Carvalho de Melo.
. Handle HUGEPAGE defines in the mmap beautifier, by David Ahern.
- 'perf report/top' enhancements:
. Do annotation using /proc/kcore and /proc/kallsyms when
available, removing the forced need for a vmlinux file kernel
assembly annotation. This also improves this use case because
vmlinux has just the initial kernel image, not what is actually
in use after various code patchings by things like alternatives.
By Adrian Hunter.

This reworks kvmppc_mmu_book3s_64_xlate() to make it check the large
page bit in the hashed page table entries (HPTEs) it looks at, and
to simplify and streamline the code. The checking of the first dword
of each HPTE is now done with a single mask and compare operation,
and all the code dealing with the matching HPTE, if we find one,
is consolidated in one place in the main line of the function flow.

It turns out that if we exit the guest due to a hcall instruction (sc 1),
and the loading of the instruction in the guest exit path fails for any
reason, the call to kvmppc_ld() in kvmppc_get_last_inst() fetches the
instruction after the hcall instruction rather than the hcall itself.
This in turn means that the instruction doesn't get recognized as an
hcall in kvmppc_handle_exit_pr() but gets passed to the guest kernel
as a sc instruction. That usually results in the guest kernel getting
a return code of 38 (ENOSYS) from an hcall, which often triggers a
BUG_ON() or other failure.
This fixes the problem by adding a new variant of kvmppc_get_last_inst()
called kvmppc_get_last_sc(), which fetches the instruction if necessary
from pc - 4 rather than pc.

Currently the code assumes that once we load up guest FP/VSX or VMX
state into the CPU, it stays valid in the CPU registers until we
explicitly flush it to the thread_struct. However, on POWER7,
copy_page() and memcpy() can use VMX. These functions do flush the
VMX state to the thread_struct before using VMX instructions, but if
this happens while we have guest state in the VMX registers, and we
then re-enter the guest, we don't reload the VMX state from the
thread_struct, leading to guest corruption. This has been observed
to cause guest processes to segfault.
To fix this, we check before re-entering the guest that all of the
bits corresponding to facilities owned by the guest, as expressed
in vcpu->arch.guest_owned_ext, are set in current->thread.regs->msr.
Any bits that have been cleared correspond to facilities that have
been used by kernel code and thus flushed to the thread_struct, so
for them we reload the state from the thread_struct.
We also need to check current->thread.regs->msr before calling
giveup_fpu() or giveup_altivec(), since if the relevant bit is
clear, the state has already been flushed to the thread_struct and
to flush it again would corrupt it.

On 64-bit, __pa(&static_var) gets miscompiled by recent versions of
gcc as something like:
addis 3,2,.LANCHOR1+4611686018427387904@toc@ha
addi 3,3,.LANCHOR1+4611686018427387904@toc@l
This ends up effectively ignoring the offset, since its bottom 32 bits
are zero, and means that the result of __pa() still has 0xC in the top
nibble. This happens with gcc 4.8.1, at least.
To work around this, for 64-bit we make __pa() use an AND operator,
and for symmetry, we make __va() use an OR operator. Using an AND
operator rather than a subtraction ends up with slightly shorter code
since it can be done with a single clrldi instruction, whereas it
takes three instructions to form the constant (-PAGE_OFFSET) and add
it on. (Note that MEMORY_START is always 0 on 64-bit.)

/proc/powerpc/lparcfg is an ancient facility (though still actively used)
which allows access to some informations relative to the partition when
running underneath a PAPR compliant hypervisor.
It makes no sense on non-pseries machines. However, currently, not only
can it be created on these if the kernel has pseries support, but accessing
it on such a machine will crash due to trying to do hypervisor calls.
In fact, it should also not do HV calls on older pseries that didn't have
an hypervisor either.
Finally, it has the plumbing to be a module but is a "bool" Kconfig option.
This fixes the whole lot by turning it into a machine_device_initcall
that is only created on pseries, and adding the necessary hypervisor
check before calling the H_GET_EM_PARMS hypercall

KVM uses anon_inode_get() to allocate file descriptors as part
of some of its ioctls. But those ioctls are lacking a flag argument
allowing userspace to choose options for the newly opened file descriptor.
In such case it's advised to use O_CLOEXEC by default so that
userspace is allowed to choose, without race, if the file descriptor
is going to be inherited across exec().
This patch set O_CLOEXEC flag on all file descriptors created
with anon_inode_getfd() to not leak file descriptors across exec().

Based on a patch by Jon Mason (see URL below).
All users of pcie_bus_configure_settings() pass arguments of the form
"bus, bus->self->pcie_mpss". The "mpss" argument is redundant since we
can easily look it up internally. In addition, all callers check
"bus->self" for NULL, which we can also do internally.
This patch simplifies the interface and the callers. No functional change.

This patch moves the generalized implementation of of_get_cpu_node from
PowerPC to DT core library, thereby adding support for retrieving cpu
node for a given logical cpu index on any architecture.
The CPU subsystem can now use this function to assign of_node in the
cpu device while registering CPUs.
It is recommended to use these helper function only in pre-SMP/early
initialisation stages to retrieve CPU device node pointers in logical
ordering. Once the cpu devices are registered, it can be retrieved easily
from cpu device of_node which avoids unnecessary parsing and matching.

Currently different drivers requiring to access cpu device node are
parsing the device tree themselves. Since the ordering in the DT need
not match the logical cpu ordering, the parsing logic needs to consider
that. However, this has resulted in lots of code duplication and in some
cases even incorrect logic.
It's better to consolidate them by adding support for getting cpu
device node for a given logical cpu index in DT core library. However
logical to physical index mapping can be architecture specific.
PowerPC has it's own implementation to get the cpu node for a given
logical index.
This patch refactors the current implementation of of_get_cpu_node.
This in preparation to move the implementation to DT core library.
It separates out the logical to physical mapping so that a default
matching of the physical id to the logical cpu index can be added
when moved to common code. Architecture specific code can override it.

If a transaction is rolled back, the Target Address Register (TAR), Processor
Priority Register (PPR) and Data Stream Control Register (DSCR) should be
restored to the checkpointed values before the transaction began. Any changes
to these SPRs inside the transaction should not be visible in the abort
handler.
Currently Linux doesn't save or restore the checkpointed TAR, PPR or DSCR. If
we preempt a processes inside a transaction which has modified any of these, on
process restore, that same transaction may be aborted we but we won't see the
checkpointed versions of these SPRs.
This adds checkpointed versions of these SPRs to the thread_struct and adds the
save/restore of these three SPRs to the treclaim/trechkpt code.
Without this if any of these SPRs are modified during a transaction, users may
incorrectly see a speculated SPR value even if the transaction is aborted.

POWER8 allows the DSCR to be accessed directly from userspace via a new SPR
number 0x3 (Rather than 0x11. DSCR SPR number 0x11 is still used on POWER8 but
like POWER7, is only accessible in HV and OS modes). Currently, we allow this
by setting H/FSCR DSCR bit on boot.
Unfortunately this doesn't work, as the kernel needs to see the DSCR change so
that it knows to no longer restore the system wide version of DSCR on context
switch (ie. to set thread.dscr_inherit).
This clears the H/FSCR DSCR bit initially. If a process then accesses the DSCR
(via SPR 0x3), it'll trap into the kernel where we set thread.dscr_inherit in
facility_unavailable_exception().
We also change _switch() so that we set or clear the H/FSCR DSCR bit based on
the thread.dscr_inherit.

When an associativity level change is found for one thread, the
siblings threads need to be updated as well. This is done today
for PRRN in stage_topology_update() but is missing for VPHN in
update_cpu_associativity_changes_mask(). This patch will correctly
update all thread siblings during a topology change.
Without this patch a topology update can result in a CPU in
init_sched_groups_power() getting stuck indefinitely in a loop.
This loop is built in build_sched_groups(). As a result of the thread
moving to a node separate from its siblings the struct sched_group will
have its next pointer set to point to itself rather than the sched_group
struct of the next thread. This happens because we have a domain without
the SD_OVERLAP flag, which is correct, and a topology that doesn't conform
with reality (threads on the same core assigned to different numa nodes).
When this list is traversed by init_sched_groups_power() it will reach
the thread's sched_group structure and loop indefinitely; the cpu will
be stuck at this point.
The bug was exposed when VPHN was enabled in commit b7abef0 (v3.9).

it part of the API - though only on processors that support EBB.

Back in commit 89713ed "Add timer, performance monitor and machine check
counts to /proc/interrupts" we added a count of PMU interrupts to the
output of /proc/interrupts.
At the time we named them "CNT" to match x86.
However in commit 89ccf46 "Rename 'performance counter interrupt'", the
x86 guys renamed theirs from "CNT" to "PMI".
Arguably changing the name could break someone's script, but I think the
chance of that is minimal, and it's preferable to have a name that 1) is
somewhat meaningful, and 2) matches x86.

Convert CONFIG_HOTPLUG_PCI from tristate to bool. This only affects
the hotplug core; several of the hotplug drivers can still be modules.

Unlike the other general-purpose SPRs, SPRG3 can be read by usermode
code, and is used in recent kernels to store the CPU and NUMA node
numbers so that they can be read by VDSO functions. Thus we need to
load the guest's SPRG3 value into the real SPRG3 register when entering
the guest, and restore the host's value when exiting the guest. We don't
need to save the guest SPRG3 value when exiting the guest as usermode
code can't modify SPRG3.
