To use it, 'perf record' should group events when recording. And
then perf report parses the saved group relation from file header
and prints them together if --group option is provided. You can
use the 'perf evlist' command to see event group information:

and cycles and header line shows group information also - 'anon
group { ref-cycles, cycles }'. The output is sorted by period of

Previously, we cached _PRT (PCI routing table, ACPI 5.0 sec 6.2.12)
contents and associated each _PRT entry with a PCI bus number. The bus
number association means dependencies on PCI device enumeration and bus
number assignment, as well as on the PCI/ACPI binding process.
After 4f535093cf ("PCI: Put pci_dev in device tree as early as possible"),
these dependencies caused the IRQ issues reported by Peter:
pci 0000:00:1e.0: PCI bridge to [bus 09] (subtractive decode)
pci 0000:00:1e.0: can't derive routing for PCI INT A
snd_ctxfi 0000:09:02.0: PCI INT A: no GSI - using ISA IRQ 5
irq 18: nobody cared (try booting with the "irqpoll" option)
This patch removes _PRT caching. Instead, we evaluate _PRT as needed
in the pci_enable_device() path. This also removes the dependency on
PCI bus numbers: we can simply look at the _PRT associated with each
bridge as we walk upstream toward the root.

Loading the pci hotplug module when no devices are present will fail
but unfortunately some hotplug callbacks stay registered to the pci
bus level. Fix this by not letting module loading fail when no pci
devices are present and provide proper {de}registration functions
for these callbacks.

Devices are added to pci_pme_list when drivers use pci_enable_wake()
or pci_wake_from_d3(), but they aren't removed from the list unless
the driver explicitly disables wakeup. Many drivers never disable
wakeup, so their devices remain on the list even after they are
removed, e.g., via hotplug. A subsequent PME poll will oops when
it tries to touch the device.
This patch disables PME# on a device before removing it, which removes
the device from pci_pme_list. This is safe even if the device never
had PME# enabled.
This oops can be triggered by unplugging a Thunderbolt ethernet adapter
on a Macbook Pro, as reported by Daniel below.

This changeset is aimed at fixing a few different but related
problems in the ACPI hotplug infrastructure.
First of all, since notify handlers may be run in parallel with
acpi_bus_scan(), acpi_bus_trim() and acpi_bus_hot_remove_device()
and some of them are installed for ACPI handles that have no struct
acpi_device objects attached (i.e. before those objects are created),
those notify handlers have to take acpi_scan_lock to prevent races
from taking place (e.g. a struct acpi_device is found to be present
for the given ACPI handle, but right after that it is removed by
acpi_bus_trim() running in parallel to the given notify handler).
Moreover, since some of them call acpi_bus_scan() and
acpi_bus_trim(), this leads to the conclusion that acpi_scan_lock
should be acquired by the callers of these two funtions rather by
these functions themselves.
For these reasons, make all notify handlers that can handle device
addition and eject events take acpi_scan_lock and remove the
acpi_scan_lock locking from acpi_bus_scan() and acpi_bus_trim().
Accordingly, update all of their users to make sure that they
are always called under acpi_scan_lock.
Furthermore, since eject operations are carried out asynchronously
with respect to the notify events that trigger them, with the help
of acpi_bus_hot_remove_device(), even if notify handlers take the
ACPI scan lock, it still is possible that, for example,
acpi_bus_trim() will run between acpi_bus_hot_remove_device() and
the notify handler that scheduled its execution and that
acpi_bus_trim() will remove the device node passed to
acpi_bus_hot_remove_device() for ejection. In that case, the struct
acpi_device object obtained by acpi_bus_hot_remove_device() will be
invalid and not-so-funny things will ensue. To protect agaist that,
make the users of acpi_bus_hot_remove_device() run get_device() on
ACPI device node objects that are about to be passed to it and make
acpi_bus_hot_remove_device() run put_device() on them and check if
their ACPI handles are not NULL (make acpi_device_unregister() clear
the device nodes' ACPI handles for that check to work).
Finally, observe that acpi_os_hotplug_execute() actually can fail,
in which case its caller ought to free memory allocated for the
context object to prevent leaks from happening. It also needs to
run put_device() on the device node that it ran get_device() on
previously in that case. Modify the code accordingly.

Commit b566a22c23 ("PCI: disable Bus Master on PCI device shutdown")
used pci_disable_device(), but that doesn't disable Bus Mastering
unconditionally; we allow nested enable/disable calls, and only the
last disable call actually does anything.
This uses pci_clear_master() to unconditionally clear the Bus Master
bit.
Matthew Garrett and Alan Cox said (see LKML link below) that clearing Bus
Master for all PCI devices may lead to unpredictable consequences: some
devices ignores this bit and continue DMA, some of them hang after that or
crash the whole system. But we're already trying to clear Bus Master in
general because of b566a22c23; this merely deals with the cases where
drivers haven't shut down the device correctly.

Commit 668192b678 "PCI: acpiphp: Move host bridge hotplug
to pci_root.c" has moved PCI host bridge hotplug logic from acpiphp
to pci_root, but there is still PCI host bridge hotplug related
dead code left in acpiphp. So remove those dead code.
Now companion ACPI devices are always created before corresponding
PCI devices. And the ACPI event handle_hotplug_event_bridge() will be
installed only if it has associated PCI device. So remove dead code to
handle bridge hot-adding in function handle_hotplug_event_bridge().

With commit 4f535093cf "PCI: Put pci_dev in device tree as
early as possible", companion ACPI devices should be created before
creating corresponding PCI devices, otherwise it will break the ACPI
PCI binding logic.
Without this patch, the /sys/bus/pci/devices/.../firmware_node symlink
is missing after hot-removing and hot-adding a device with acpiphp.

On PCI bus hotplug removal, pcie_aspm_exit_link_state() can potentially
skip parent devices that have link_state allocated. Instead of exiting
early if a given device is not PCIe, check whether or not the device's
parent has link_state allocated. This enables pcie_aspm_exit_link_state()
to properly clean up parent link_state when the last function in a slot
might not be PCIe.

We want to put pci_dev structs in the device tree as soon as possible so
for_each_pci_dev() iteration will not miss them, but driver attachment
needs to be delayed until after pci_assign_unassigned_resources() to make
sure all devices have resources assigned first.
This patch moves device registering from pci_bus_add_devices() to
pci_device_add(), which happens earlier, leaving driver attachment in
pci_bus_add_devices().
It also removes unattached child bus handling in pci_bus_add_devices().
That's not needed because child bus via pci_add_new_bus() is already
in parent bus children list.

We want to add PCI devices to the device tree as early as possible but
delay attaching drivers.
device_add() adds a device to the device hierarchy and (via
device_attach()) attaches a matching driver and calls its .probe() method.
We want to separate adding the device to the hierarchy from attaching the
driver.
This patch does that by adding "match_driver" in struct pci_dev. When
false, we return failure from pci_bus_match(), which makes device_attach()
believe there's no matching driver.
Later, we set "match_driver = true" and call device_attach() again, which
now attaches the driver and calls its .probe() method.

Could have root bus hot-added later and there may be slots that need
acpiphp.
The result returned by acpiphp_get_num_slots() is meaningless, because
the bridge the slots are under may be added after this function has been
called, so drop acpiphp_get_num_slots() and the code using it.

The acpiphp driver is confusing because it contains partial support for PCI
host bridge hotplug as well as support for hotplug of PCI devices.
This patch moves the host bridge hot-add support to pci_root.c and adds
hot-remove support in pci_root.c.
How to test it: if sci_emu patch is applied, find out root bus number to
ACPI root name mapping from dmesg or /sys. To remove root bus:

According to device model documentation, the way to create/destroy PCI
devices should be symmetric. The rule is to either use
1) device_register()/device_unregister()
or
2) device_initialize()/device_add()/device_del()/put_device().
So change PCI core logic to follow the rule and get rid of the redundant
pci_dev_get()/pci_dev_put() pair.

We can stop trying according to try_number now and do not need to use
root_bus checking as stop sign.
In extreme case we could need to reallocate resource for device just
under root bus. For PCI root bus hot-add, we need to retry to assign
resources to PCI devices just under pci root bus.

When system support hotplug bridge with children hotplug slots, we need
to make sure that parent bridge get preallocated resource so later when
device is plugged into children slot, those children devices will get
resource allocated.
We do not meet this problem, because for PCIe hotplug card, when acpiphp
is used, pci_scan_bridge will set that for us when detect hotplug bit in
slot cap.

Currently, we enumerate devices in a slot with pci_scan_slot(), then
iterate through all the devices we found by looking for functions 0-7. But
that's wrong for ARI devices, which may have function numbers up to 255.
This means that when we hot-add an ARI device, pciehp only initializes
functions 0-7, and other functions don't work correctly. Additionally, if
we hot-remove the device, pciehp only removes functions 0-7, leaving stale
pci_dev structures for any other functions.
This patch fixes the problem by iterating over devices in a slot by using
the upstream bridge's "bus->devices" list instead.

pci_reassigndev_resource_alignment() is the only user of
pci_is_reassigndev(). If we just use pci_specified_resource_alignment()
directly, we only need to call it once instead of twice, and we can get
rid of pci_is_reassigndev() altogether. No functional change.

Currently, we enable ARI in a device's upstream bridge if the bridge and
the device support it. But we never disable ARI, even if the device is
removed and replaced with a device that doesn't support ARI.
This means that if we hot-remove an ARI device and replace it with a
non-ARI multi-function device, we find only function 0 of the new device
because the upstream bridge still has ARI enabled, and next_ari_fn()
only returns function 0 for the new non-ARI device.
This patch disables ARI in the upstream bridge if the device doesn't
support ARI. See the PCIe spec, r3.0, sec 6.13.

The new function pci_enable_msi_block_auto() tries to allocate
maximum possible number of MSIs up to the number the device
supports. It generalizes a pattern when pci_enable_msi_block()
is contiguously called until it succeeds or fails.
Opposite to pci_enable_msi_block() which takes the number of
MSIs to allocate as a input parameter,
pci_enable_msi_block_auto() could be used by device drivers to
obtain the number of assigned MSIs and the number of MSIs the
device supports.

The only difference between acpi_bus_scan() and acpi_bus_add() is the
invocation of acpi_update_all_gpes() in the latter which in fact is
unnecessary, because acpi_update_all_gpes() has already been called
by acpi_scan_init() and the way it is implemented guarantees the next
invocations of it to do nothing.
For this reason, drop acpi_bus_add() and make all its callers use
acpi_bus_scan() directly instead of it. Additionally, rearrange the
code in acpi_scan_init() slightly to improve the visibility of the
acpi_update_all_gpes() call in there.

Commit 0090def6 (ACPI: Add interface to register/unregister device
to/from power resources) made it possible to indicate to the ACPI
core that if the given device depends on any power resources, then
it should be resumed as soon as all of the power resources required
by it to transition to the D0 power state have been turned on.
Unfortunately, however, this was a mistake, because all devices
depending on power resources should be treated this way (i.e. they
should be resumed when all power resources required by their D0
state have been turned on) and for the majority of those devices
the ACPI core can figure out by itself which (physical) devices
depend on what power resources.
For this reason, replace the code added by commit 0090def6 with a
new, much more straightforward, mechanism that will be used
internally by the ACPI core and remove all references to that code
from kernel subsystems using ACPI.
For the cases when there are (physical) devices that should be
resumed whenever a not directly related ACPI device node goes into
D0 as a result of power resources configuration changes, like in
the SATA case, add two new routines, acpi_dev_pm_add_dependent()
and acpi_dev_pm_remove_dependent(), allowing subsystems to manage
such dependencies. Convert the SATA subsystem to use the new
functions accordingly.

All callers of acpi_bus_trim() pass 1 (true) as the second argument
of it, so remove that argument entirely and change acpi_bus_trim()
to always behave as though it were 1.

Right now using pcie_aspm=force will not enable ASPM if the FADT indicates
ASPM is unsupported. However, the semantics of force should probably allow
for this, especially as they did before 3c076351c4 ("PCI: Rework ASPM
disable code")
This patch just skips the clearing of any ASPM setup that the firmware has
carried out on this bus if pcie_aspm=force is being used.

When we have an SHPC-capable bridge with a second SHPC-capable bridge
below it, pushing the upstream bridge's attention button causes a
deadlock.
The deadlock happens because we use the shpchp_wq workqueue to run
shpchp_pushbutton_thread(), which uses shpchp_disable_slot() to remove
devices below the upstream bridge. When we remove the downstream bridge,
we call shpc_remove(), the shpchp driver's .remove() method. That calls
flush_workqueue(shpchp_wq), which deadlocks because the
shpchp_pushbutton_thread() work item is still running.
This patch avoids the deadlock by creating a workqueue for every slot
and removing the single shared workqueue.

Use non-ordered workqueue for attention button events.
Attention button events on each slot can be handled asynchronously. So
we should use non-ordered workqueue. This patch also removes ordered
workqueue in shpchp as a result.

the same change to pciehp. I split this out from a patch by Yijing Wang
<wangyijing@huawei.com> so we fix one thing at a time and to make the

The ACPI handles of PCI root bridges need to be known to
acpi_bind_one(), so that it can create the appropriate
"firmware_node" and "physical_node" files for them, but currently
the way it gets to know those handles is not exactly straightforward
(to put it lightly).
This is how it works, roughly:
1. acpi_bus_scan() finds the handle of a PCI root bridge,
creates a struct acpi_device object for it and passes that
object to acpi_pci_root_add().
2. acpi_pci_root_add() creates a struct acpi_pci_root object,
populates its "device" field with its argument's address
(device->handle is the ACPI handle found in step 1).
3. The struct acpi_pci_root object created in step 2 is passed
to pci_acpi_scan_root() and used to get resources that are
passed to pci_create_root_bus().
4. pci_create_root_bus() creates a struct pci_host_bridge object
and passes its "dev" member to device_register().
5. platform_notify(), which for systems with ACPI is set to
acpi_platform_notify(), is called.
So far, so good. Now it starts to be "interesting".
6. acpi_find_bridge_device() is used to find the ACPI handle of
the given device (which is the PCI root bridge) and executes
acpi_pci_find_root_bridge(), among other things, for the
given device object.
7. acpi_pci_find_root_bridge() uses the name (sic!) of the given
device object to extract the segment and bus numbers of the PCI
root bridge and passes them to acpi_get_pci_rootbridge_handle().
8. acpi_get_pci_rootbridge_handle() browses the list of ACPI PCI
root bridges and finds the one that matches the given segment
and bus numbers. Its handle is then used to initialize the
ACPI handle of the PCI root bridge's device object by
acpi_bind_one(). However, this is *exactly* the ACPI handle we
started with in step 1.
Needless to say, this is quite embarassing, but it may be avoided
thanks to commit f3fd0c8 (ACPI: Allow ACPI handles of devices to be
initialized in advance), which makes it possible to initialize the
ACPI handle of a device before passing it to device_register().
Accordingly, add a new __weak routine, pcibios_root_bridge_prepare(),
defaulting to an empty implementation that can be replaced by the
interested architecutres (x86 and ia64 at the moment) with functions
that will set the root bridge's ACPI handle before its dev member is
passed to device_register(). Make both x86 and ia64 provide such
implementations of pcibios_root_bridge_prepare() and remove
acpi_pci_find_root_bridge() and acpi_get_pci_rootbridge_handle() that
aren't necessary any more.
Included is a fix for breakage on systems with non-ACPI PCI host
bridges from Bjorn Helgaas.

IORESOURCE_MEM, which are values for struct resource.flags, which is
"unsigned long", not "resource_size_t".

This patch will provide a more reliable and easy way for user-space
applications to have access to AER logs rather than reading them from the
message buffer. It also provides a way to notify user-space when an AER
event occurs.
The aer driver is updated to generate a trace event of function 'aer_event'
when a PCIe error is reported over the AER interface. The trace event was
added to both the interrupt based aer path and the firmware first path.

Move the code related to _PRT setup and removal and to power
resources from acpi_pci_bind() and acpi_pci_unbind() to the .setup()
and .cleanup() callbacks in acpi_pci_bus and remove acpi_pci_bind()
and acpi_pci_unbind() that have no purpose any more. Accordingly,
remove the code related to device .bind() and .unbind() operations
from the ACPI PCI root bridge driver.

Currently, the ACPI wakeup capability of PCI devices is set up
in two different places, partially in acpi_pci_bind() where
runtime wakeup is initialized and partially in
platform_pci_wakeup_init(), where system wakeup is initialized.
The cleanup is only done in acpi_pci_unbind() and it only covers
runtime wakeup.
Use the new .setup() and .cleanup() callbacks in struct acpi_bus_type
to consolidate that code and do the setup and the cleanup each in one
place.

The callers of acpi_bus_add() usually assume that if it has
succeeded, then a struct acpi_device object has been attached to
the handle passed as the first argument. Unfortunately, however,
this assumption is wrong, because acpi_bus_scan(), and acpi_bus_add()
too as a result, may return a pointer to a different struct
acpi_device object on success (it may be an object corresponding to
one of the descendant ACPI nodes in the namespace scope below that
handle).
For this reason, the callers of acpi_bus_add() who care about
whether or not a struct acpi_device object has been created for
its first argument need to check that using acpi_bus_get_device()
anyway, so the second argument of acpi_bus_add() is not really
useful for them. The same observation applies to acpi_bus_scan()
executed directly from acpi_scan_init().
Therefore modify the relevant callers of acpi_bus_add() to check the
existence of the struct acpi_device in question with the help of
acpi_bus_get_device() and drop the no longer necessary second
argument of acpi_bus_add(). Accordingly, modify acpi_scan_init() to
use acpi_bus_get_device() to get acpi_root and drop the no longer
needed second argument of acpi_bus_scan().

Notice that acpi_bus_add() uses only 2 of its 4 arguments and
redefine its header to match the body. Update all of its callers as
necessary and observe that this leads to quite a number of removed
lines of code (Linus will like that).
Add a kerneldoc comment documenting acpi_bus_add() and wonder how
its callers make wrong assumptions about the second argument (make
note to self to take care of that later).

The ACPI PCI root bridge driver was the only ACPI driver implementing
the .start() callback, which isn't used by any ACPI drivers any more
now.
For this reason, acpi_start_single_object() has no purpose any more,
so remove it and all references to it. Also remove
acpi_bus_start_device(), whose only purpose was to call
acpi_start_single_object().
Moreover, since after the removal of acpi_bus_start_device() the
only purpose of acpi_bus_start() remains to call
acpi_update_all_gpes(), move that into acpi_bus_add() and drop
acpi_bus_start() too, remove its header from acpi_bus.h and
update all of its former users accordingly.
This change was previously proposed in a different from by
Yinghai Lu.

Ulrich reported that his USB3 cardreader does not work reliably when
connected to the USB3 port. It turns out that USB3 controller failed to
awaken when plugging in the USB3 cardreader. Further experiments found
that the USB3 host controller can only be awakened via polling, not via PME
interrupt. But if the PCIe port to which the USB3 host controller is
connected is suspended, we cannot poll the controller because its config
space is not accessible when the PCIe port is in a low power state.
To solve the issue, the PCIe port will not be suspended if any subordinate
device needs PME polling.

If we request "num_vfs" and the driver's sriov_configure() method enables
exactly that number ("num_vfs_enabled"), we complain "Invalid value for
number of VFs to enable" and return an error. We should silently return
success instead.
Also, use kstrtou16() since numVFs is defined to be a 16-bit field and
rework to simplify control flow.

going to be a pain for the merge with different subsystem trees, I know,
but all of the patches included here have been ACKed by their various
subsystem maintainers, as they wanted them to go through here.
If this is too much of a pain, I can pull all of them out of this tree
and just send you one with the other fixes/updates and then, after
3.8-rc1 is out, do the rest of the removals to ensure we catch them all,
it's up to you. The merges should all be trivial, and Stephen has been
doing them all in linux-next for a few weeks now quite easily.
Other than the __dev* marking removals, there's nothing major here, some
firmware loading updates and other minor things in the driver core.
All of these have (much to Stephen's annoyance), been in linux-next for
a while.

For unbound PCI devices, what we need is:
- Always in D0 state, because some devices do not work again after
being put into D3 by the PCI bus.
- In SUSPENDED state if allowed, so that the parent devices can still
be put into low power state.
To satisfy these requirements, the runtime PM for the unbound PCI
devices are disabled and set to SUSPENDED state. One issue of this
solution is that the PCI devices will be put into SUSPENDED state even
if the SUSPENDED state is forbidden via the sysfs interface
(.../power/control) of the device. This is not an issue for most
devices, because most PCI devices are not used at all if unbound.
But there are exceptions. For example, unbound VGA card can be used
for display, but suspending its parents makes it stop working.
To fix the issue, we keep the runtime PM enabled when the PCI devices
are unbound. But the runtime PM callbacks will do nothing if the PCI
devices are unbound. This way, we can put the PCI devices into
SUSPENDED state without putting the PCI devices into D3 state.

Backend drivers shouldn't transition to CLOSED unless the frontend is
CLOSED. If a backend does transition to CLOSED too soon then the
frontend may not see the CLOSING state and will not properly shutdown.
So, treat an unexpected backend CLOSED state the same as CLOSING.

Add SCLP PCI configure/deconfigure and implement a PCI hotplug
controller (s390_pci_hpc). The hotplug controller creates a slot
for every PCI function in stand-by or configured state. The PCI
functions are named after the PCI function ID (fid). By writing to
the power attribute in /sys/bus/pci/slots/<fid>/power the PCI function
is moved to stand-by or configured state. If moved to the configured
state the device is automatically scanned by the s390 PCI layer.

Support PCI adapter interrupts using the Single-IRQ-mode. Single-IRQ-mode
disables an adapter IRQ automatically after delivering it until the SIC
instruction enables it again. This is used to reduce the number of IRQs
for streaming workloads.
Up to 64 MSI handlers can be registered per PCI function.
A hash table is used to map interrupt numbers to MSI descriptors.
The interrupt vector is scanned using the flogr instruction.
Only MSI/MSI-X interrupts are supported, no legacy INTs.

When an error is detected on a PCIe device which does not have an
AER-aware driver, prevent AER infrastructure from reporting
successful error recovery.
This is because the report_error_detected() function that gets
called in the first phase of recovery process allows forward
progress even when the driver for the device does not have AER
capabilities. It seems that all callbacks (in pci_error_handlers
structure) registered by drivers that gets called during error
recovery are not mandatory. So the intention of the infrastructure
design seems to be to allow forward progress even when a specific
callback has not been registered by a driver. However, if error
handler structure itself has not been registered, it doesn't make
sense to allow forward progress.
As a result of the current design, in the case of a single device
having an AER-unaware driver or in the case of any function in a
multi-function card having an AER-unaware driver, a successful
recovery is reported.
Typical scenario this happens is when a PCI device is detached
from a KVM host and the pci-stub driver on the host claims the
device. The pci-stub driver does not have error handling capabilities
but the AER infrastructure still reports that the device recovered
successfully.
The changes proposed here leaves the device(s)in an unrecovered state
if the driver for the device or for any device in the subtree
does not have error handler structure registered. This reflects
the true state of the device and prevents any partial recovery (or no
recovery at all) reported as successful.

ACPI routines for adding and removing device wakeup notifiers are
currently defined in a PCI-specific file, but they will be necessary
for non-PCI devices too, so move them to a separate file under
drivers/acpi and rename them to indicate their ACPI origins.

No need to check "!dev" when the caller should always supply a valid
pointer. If the caller *doesn't* supply a valid pointer, it probably
won't check for a failure return either. This way we'll oops and get a
backtrace.

Some implementations of SRIOV provide a capability structure
value of TotalVFs that is greater than what the software can support.
Provide a method to reduce the capability structure reported value
to the value the driver can support.
This ensures sysfs reports the current capability of the system,
hardware and software.
Example for its use: igb & ixgbe -- report 8 & 64 as TotalVFs,
but drivers only support 7 & 63 maximum.

Provide files under sysfs to determine the maximum number of VFs
an SR-IOV-capable PCIe device supports, and methods to enable and
disable the VFs on a per-device basis.
Currently, VF enablement by SR-IOV-capable PCIe devices is done
via driver-specific module parameters. If not setup in modprobe files,
it requires admin to unload & reload PF drivers with number of desired
VFs to enable. Additionally, the enablement is system wide: all
devices controlled by the same driver have the same number of VFs
enabled. Although the latter is probably desired, there are PCI
configurations setup by system BIOS that may not enable that to occur.
Two files are created for the PF of PCIe devices with SR-IOV support:
sriov_totalvfs Contains the maximum number of VFs the device
could support as reported by the TotalVFs register
in the SR-IOV extended capability.
sriov_numvfs Contains the number of VFs currently enabled on
this device as reported by the NumVFs register in
the SR-IOV extended capability.
Writing zero to this file disables all VFs.
Writing a positive number to this file enables that
number of VFs.
These files are readable for all SR-IOV PF devices. Writes to the
sriov_numvfs file are effective only if a driver that supports the
sriov_configure() method is attached.

The Meilhaus ME-2000i and ME-2600i data acquisition cards supported by
the Comedi "me_daq" driver use the PLX PCI 9050 PCI Target bridge chip
affected by the bug that prevents the chip's local configuration
registers being read from BAR0 or BAR1 base addresses that are an odd
multiple of 128 bytes. Use the PLX PCI 9050 quirk handler for these
devices to re-allocate affected regions to a 256-byte boundary.

The PLX PCI 9050 PCI Target bridge controller has a bug that prevents
its local configuration registers being read through BAR0 (memory) or
BAR1 (i/o) if the base address lies on an odd 128-byte boundary, i.e. if
bit 7 of the base address is non-zero. This bug is described in the PCI
9050 errata list, version 1.4, May 2005. It was fixed in the
pin-compatible PCI 9052, which can be distinguished from the PCI 9050 by
checking the revision in the PCI header, which is hard-coded for these
chips.
Workaround the problem by re-allocating the affected regions to a
256-byte boundary. Note that BAR0 and/or BAR1 may have been disabled
(size 0) during initialization of the PCI chip when its configuration is
read from a serial EEPROM.
Currently, the fix-up has only been used for devices with the default
vendor and device ID of the PLX PCI 9050. The PCI 9052 shares the same
default device ID as the PCI 9050 but they have different PCI revision
codes.

If the driver takes care of state saving, don't touch any registers on it.
Optimus (dual-gpu) laptops seem to have their own form of D3cold, but
unfortunately enter it on normal D3 transitions via the ACPI callback.
So when we use runtime PM to transition to D3, the card disappears off
the PCI bus, however we then try to access registers on it in the
runtime suspend finish, which really doesn't work.
This patch checks whether the pci state is saved and doesn't attempt to hit
any registers after that point if it is.

Commit 2dcfaf85 mistakenly dropped the "flags & PCI_EXP_FLAGS_SLOT" test,
so now we create hotplug slots even for PCIe port devices that don't
support hotplug. This patch fixes this problem.

Peter reported that /proc/bus/pci/??/??.? does not work for 3.6.
This is because the device configuration space registers are
not accessible if the corresponding parent bridge is suspended or
the device is put into D3cold state.
This is the same as /sys/bus/pci/devices/0000:??:??.?/config access
issue. So the function used to solve sysfs issue is used to solve
this issue.
This patch moves pci_config_pm_runtime_get()/_put() from pci/pci-sysfs.c
to pci/pci.c and makes them extern so they can be used by both the
sysfs and proc paths.

Some actions during shutdown need device to be in D0 state, such as
MSI shutdown etc, so resume device before shutdown.
Without this patch, a device may not be enumerated after a kexec
because the corresponding bridge is not in D0, so that
configuration space of the device is not accessible.

Some error handling functions call pci_walk_bus. For example, PCIe
aer. Here we lock the device, so the driver wouldn't detach from the
device, as the cb might call driver's callback function.
So I fixed the deadlock as follows:
- remove device_lock from pci_walk_bus
- add device_lock into callback if callback will call driver's callback
I checked pci_walk_bus users one by one, and found only PCIe aer needs
device lock.

Make ACPI power management routines and PCI power management
routines depending on ACPI take device PM QoS flags into account
when deciding what power state to put the device into.
In particular, after this change acpi_pm_device_sleep_state() will
not return ACPI_STATE_D3_COLD as the deepest available low-power
state if PM_QOS_FLAG_NO_POWER_OFF is requested for the device and it
will not require remote wakeup to work for the device in the returned
low-power state if there is at least one PM QoS flags request for the
device, but PM_QOS_FLAG_REMOTE_WAKEUP is not requested for it.
Accordingly, acpi_pci_set_power_state() will refuse to put the
device into D3cold if PM_QOS_FLAG_NO_POWER_OFF is requested for it.

Commit 0d52f54e2e (PCI / ACPI: Make acpiphp
ignore root bridges using PCIe native hotplug) added code that made the
acpiphp driver completely ignore PCIe root complexes for which the kernel
had been granted control of the native PCIe hotplug feature by the BIOS
through _OSC. Later commit 619a5182d1
"PCI hotplug: Always allow acpiphp to handle non-PCIe bridges" relaxed
the constraints to allow acpiphp driver handle non-PCIe bridges under
such a complex. The constraint needs to be relaxed further to allow
acpiphp driver to handle PCIe ports without native PCIe hotplug capability.
Some MR-IOV switch chipsets, such PLX8696, support multiple virtual PCIe
switches and may migrate downstream ports among virtual switches. To
migrate a downstream port from the source virtual switch to the target, the
port needs to be hot-removed from the source and hot-added into the target.
The pciehp driver can't be used here because there are no slots within the
virtual PCIe switch. So acpiphp driver is used to support downstream port
migration. A typical configuration is as below:

Here acpiphp driver will be used to handle root ports and upstream port

This patch changes .add/.remove interfaces of acpi_pci_driver.
In the current implementation acpi_handle is passed as a parameter
of .add/.remove interface. However, the acpi_pci_root structure
contains more useful information than just the acpi_handle. This
enables us to avoid some useless lookups in each acpi_pci_driver.
Note: This changes interfaces used by acpi_pci_register_driver(), an
exported symbol. This patch updates all the in-kernel users, but any
out-of-kernel acpi_pci_register_driver() users will need updates.

This restores the previous behavior of stopping all child devices before
removing any of them. The current SR-IOV design, where removing the PF
also drops references on all the VFs, depends on having the VFs continue
to exist after having been stopped.

When we remove an SR-IOV device, we have this call chain:
driver .remove() method
pci_disable_sriov()
sriov_disable()
virtfn_remove()
pci_get_domain_bus_and_slot()
sriov_disable() is only called for PFs, not for VFs. When it's called
for a PF, it loops through all the VFs and calls virtfn_remove() for
each. But we stop and remove VFs before PFs, so by the time we get
to virtfn_remove(), the VFs have already been stopped and deleted
from the device list. Now pci_get_domain_bus_and_slot(), which uses
bus_find_device() and relies on that device list, doesn't find the
VFs, so the VF references aren't released correctly.

This patch (as1591) moves the pm_runtime_get_noresume() and
pm_runtime_put_sync() calls from __device_suspend() and
device_resume() to device_prepare() and device_complete() in the PM
core.
The reason for doing this is to make sure that parent devices remain
at full power (i.e., don't go into runtime suspend) while their
children are being resumed from a system sleep.
The PCI core already contained equivalent code to serve the same
purpose. The patch removes the duplicated code, since it is no longer
needed. One of the comments from the PCI core gets moved into the PM
core, and a second comment is added to explain whe the _get_noresume
and _put_sync calls are present.

Most architectures implement this in exactly the same way. Instead of
having each architecture duplicate this function, provide a single
implementation in the core and make it a weak symbol so that it can be
overridden on architectures where it is required.

Remove the __init annotations in order to keep pci_fixup_irqs() around
after init (e.g. for hotplug). This requires the same change for the
implementation of pcibios_update_irq() on all architectures. While at
it, all __devinit annotations are removed as well, since they will be
useless now that HOTPLUG is always on.

Should use struct pci_bus_resource instead of struct pci_host_bridge_window
Commit 45ca9e9730 ("PCI: add helpers for building PCI bus resource lists")
added pci_free_resource_list() and used it in pci_bus_remove_resources().
Later it was also used for host bridge aperture lists, which was fine until
commit 0efd5aab41 ("PCI: add struct pci_host_bridge_window with CPU/bus
address offset"). That commit added offset information, so we needed a
struct pci_host_bridge_window that was separate from struct
pci_bus_resource.
Commit 0efd5aab41 should have split the host bridge aperture users of
pci_free_resource_list() from the pci_bus_resource user
(pci_bus_remove_resources()), but it did not.

For bridges with "secondary > subordinate", i.e., invalid bus number
apertures, we don't enumerate anything behind the bridge unless the
user specified "pci=assign-busses".
This patch makes us automatically try to reassign the downstream bus
numbers in this case (just for that bridge, not for all bridges as
"pci=assign-busses" does).
We don't discover all the devices on the Intel DP43BF motherboard
without this change (or "pci=assign-busses") because its BIOS configures
a bridge as:

Function eeh_rmv_from_parent_pe() could be called by the path of
either normal PCI hotplug, or EEH recovery. For the former case,
we need purge the corresponding PE on removal of the associated
PE bus.
The patch tries to cover that by passing more information to function
pcibios_remove_pci_devices() so that we know if the corresponding PE
needs to be purged or be marked as "invalid".

We piggyback on "xen/swiotlb: Use the swiotlb_late_init_with_tbl to init
Xen-SWIOTLB late when PV PCI is used." functionality to start up
the Xen-SWIOTLB if we are hot-plugged. This allows us to bypass
the need to supply 'iommu=soft' on the Linux command line (mostly).
With this patch, if a user forgot 'iommu=soft' on the command line,

if PCI hotplug operation happens between them which removes the pci_bus.
So use PCI hotplug safe interface pci_get_domain_bus_and_slot() instead,
which also reduces code complexity.

The original idea comes from Ram Pai. This patch puts the chunk of
code for calculating the minimal alignment of memory window into a
separate inline function.

This patch changes pbus_size_io() and pbus_size_mem() to do window (I/O,
memory and prefetchable memory) reassignment based on the minimal
alignments for the P2P bridge, which was retrieved by window_alignment().

This patch implements a weak function to return the default I/O or memory
window alignment for a P2P bridge. By default, I/O windows are aligned to
4KiB or 1KiB and memory windows are aligned to 4MiB. Some platforms, e.g.,
powernv, have special alignment requirements and can override
pcibios_window_alignment().

In function pci_get_subsys() there is a check:

Previously, the driver ignored resume unless the pciehp_force module_param
was specified. On some laptops that means that interrupts are not
delivered after S3, so card removals and insertions are not handled.
This patch makes the driver handle resume regardless of pciehp_force.

On some platforms, root port has neither MSI/MSI-X nor INTx interrupt
generated in RC mode. In this case, we have to use other interrupt, e.g.,
system shared interrupt, for port service IRQ to have AER, Hot-plug, etc.,
services work.

The completion message in do_recovery() is currently KERN_DEBUG,
while the starting message in aer_print_port_info() is KERN_INFO.
This changes the completion message to KERN_INFO to match the
starting message.

The fakephp driver was scheduled for removal in 2011.
Fakephp presented /sys/bus/pci/slots/.../power files for every PCI
function. Writing "0" to one of these files logically removed the device
from the system. The PCI core now provides the same functionality with
/sys/bus/pci/devices/.../remove.

pci_get_subsys() may get called in late system reboot stage, using
a sleepable kmalloc() sounds fragile and will cause a kernel warning
with my recent commmit 55c844a "x86/reboot: Fix a warning message
triggered by stop_other_cpus()" which disable local interrupt in
late system shutdown/reboot phase. Using a local parameter instead
will fix it and make it eligible for calling from atomic context.
Do the same change for the pci_get_class() as suggested by Bjorn Helgaas.
Initializing the on-stack struct pci_device_id suggested by Fengguang Wu
and Jiri Slaby. Section 6.7.8 of the C99 standard guarantees that when we
initialize some of the struct members, the rest of the struct is implicitly
initialized the same as objects with static storage duration, i.e., to zero
in this case.
