Currently, struct request has four timestamp fields: - A start time, set at get_request time, in jiffies, used for iostats - An I/O start time, set at start_request time, in ktime nanoseconds, used for blk-stats (i.e., wbt, kyber, hybrid polling) - Another start time and another I/O start time, used for cfq and bfq These can all be consolidated into one start time and one I/O start time, both in ktime nanoseconds, shaving off up to 16 bytes from struct request depending on the kernel config. Linux kernel
============
There are several guides for kernel developers and users. These guides can
be rendered in a number of formats, like HTML and PDF. Please read
Documentation/admin-guide/README.rst first.
In order to build the documentation, use ``make htmldocs`` or
``make pdfdocs``. The formatted documentation can also be read online at:
https://www.kernel.org/doc/html/latest/
There are various text files in the Documentation/ subdirectory,
several of them using the Restructured Text markup notation.
See Documentation/00-INDEX for a list of what is contained in each file.
Please read the Documentation/process/changes.rst file, as it contains the
requirements for building and running the kernel, and information about
the problems which may result by upgrading your kernel.
