The root phpunit.xml points at the private pro/tests submodule that outside contributors cannot fetch, so tests/ is a self-contained harness (fixture-driven WordPress + ACF stubs) runnable with plain PHPUnit: vendor/bin/phpunit -c tests/phpunit.xml. 29 tests covering registration, permissions, target validation, name-to-key resolution, flexible layout validation, the Pro gate, value normalization, and the field-group authoring guardrails.
