How are you running AnythingLLM?

AnythingLLM desktop app

What happened?

Downloaded the latest Desktop version today.
Systems Windows 10 and Windows 11

Windows 10 Machine
I tried to install on a PC with anythingllm already there which it says is fine and it will update or reinstall.
Error stated to close Anythingllm to continue. However it wasn't running. Checked again and watched processes and it seems to be seeing itself.
Ran it as admin. Same. Ran it to a different drive same error.
I Uninstalled it. And tried again. Same error.
Checked for remaining files 0 found.
Ran again same error.

Second PC is windows 11 and tried again and I got the alert despite not having the desktop version on that PC at all.
Thats got me stumped. I figured I was missing something but I have never seen that before in a program. So figured I would post it.

I did see a prior ticket here and some discussion about it on another discord for LLMS but no apparent cause/fix.

Are there known steps to reproduce?

No response

Definitely not something we can repro (tried to install/re-install on 3 different Windows machines I physically have).
Can you just restart the computer?

I have had this issue with Steam, where it is fully closed but Windows claims it is open even though no steam process was running. I think it's a windows thing - nothing for us to action on.

Morning.
Ya I had reset and restarted and Like I was saying above even on another computer. The others who reported it in the discord group that is working with me. Have also had it across both windows 10 and 11 and with various antivirus systems. For now we are moving to something temporary to replace it and will try again at some point in the future. It is for sure a weird one. I wasn't even aware until I heard the group discussing it and checked myself.

This is honestly the first time I have heard of this. There is no chance that the administrator has it installed for all users or something? I assume you are already the main admin account, so it should be a non-issue.

Either that or some kind of security setting if this is a corporate/managed device.

No worries I will ask the others. Ya we are all the admins. I saw another ticket like maybe 5 months ago in here but I didnt see notes on it. Or how it was fixed.

I will ask and try to swing back with more data for ya!

Checked in just for an update.

Update -Even with full uninstall 4 more users all can't install or update if they ever did despite uninstalling. 2 Windows 10, 2 windows 11.
Single user PC's each an admin.

Also uninstalling AND also changing the new versions folder path to a completely different drive and folder it throws the same error.

For example-
Old install C drive(gets uninstalled)
Reboot
New Drive D install attempt- fail
D drive with manual entered foldername fail.

Wouldn't bother with this but since its being reported by some of the others and the earlier ticket here in June or July I figured it was worth dropping the extra data in.

What kind of computer are you on? Are you trying to install the ARM version on x86 or vice versa? That is the only reason why an installation failure would occur. What even is the failure message?

I was running into the same problem on Win 11 trying to upgrade and the solution for me was (after normal uninstalling) to manually delete all AnythingLLM files in %appdata%\local\programs and %appdata%\roaming - just look for "AnythingLLM" in those directories. A fresh install after that worked. It's been a while since I upgraded and it may be that some of the old databases or settings were just in compatible with the latest version so that may be why scrubbing all that did the trick.
