How are you running AnythingLLM?

AnythingLLM desktop app

What happened?

I selected System Native for text-to-speech. Regardless of what System Voice I have selected, the voice chosen is Albert (the first 'novelty' voice). While it was fun to play around with back in the 80's (yes, I go that far back with the Mac), it's awful trying to interact with. I believe the original sample was "I think I have a frog in my throat" and it indeed does.

Update: Here's a video demonstrating Albert.

So - how to select a different native voice if it doesn't honor what is selected for the System Voice?

macOS Tahoe 26.4

Are there known steps to reproduce?

  1. In the macOS System Settings, search for system voice.
  2. Under the System voice field, select a voice - preferably a high-quality one.
  3. Switching back to the Anything LLM desktop app, click on the Open Settings 🔧
  4. Under All Providers select Voice & Speech
  5. Under Text-to-speech preference, select/verify System native
  6. Begin a chat with a speech response - "enjoy" the experience.

@timothycarambat commented on GitHub (Mar 31, 2026):

This seems to be a Tahoe issue that Apple needs to know about - not able to replicate on Sequoia. Also im assuming restarting the app post-voice change does nothing?
