How are you running AnythingLLM?

Docker (local)

What happened?

[Android] Japanese IME input broken & MCP tools not available

Environment

  • Device: Samsung (tested with Gboard and Samsung Keyboard)
  • OS: Android
  • App version: latest (Play Store)

Issues

  1. Japanese IME input is unusable
When typing in Japanese, the cursor moves unexpectedly during conversion, making it impossible to enter prompts correctly. This occurs with both Gboard and Samsung Keyboard. This is a critical issue as it makes the app completely unusable for Japanese users.

  2. MCP tools cannot be called
MCP tool calling does not work at all in the Android app. Since tool integration is a core feature of AnythingLLM, this significantly limits the app's usefulness on mobile.

Additional issues (lower priority)

  • File attachments are not supported
  • Settings cannot be changed within the app

The first two issues in particular make the Android app difficult to recommend for practical use. I hope these can be addressed in a future update. Happy to provide further details or testing if helpful.

Are there known steps to reproduce?

  1. Install AnythingLLM Android app from Google Play Store
  2. Open the app and try to type in Japanese using any IME (tested with Gboard and Samsung Keyboard)
  3. Cursor moves unexpectedly during Japanese conversion, making input impossible
