5585626232 [PH] Replace uses of AssertingVH from members of analysis results with
a lazy-asserting PoisoningVH.

AssertVH is fundamentally incompatible with cache-invalidation of
analysis results. The invaliadtion happens after the AssertingVH has
already fired. Instead, use a PoisoningVH that will assert if the
dangling handle is ever used rather than merely be assigned or
destroyed.

This patch also removes all of the (numerous) doomed attempts to work
around this fundamental incompatibility. It is a pretty significant
simplification IMO.

The most interesting change is in the Inliner where we still do some
clearing because we don't want to rely on the coarse grained
invalidation strategy of the containing pass manager. However, I prefer
the approach that contains this logic to the cleanup phase of the
Inliner, and I think we could enhance the CGSCC analysis management
layer to make this even better in the future if desired.

The rest is straight cleanup.

I've also added a test for one of the harder cases to work around: when
a *module analysis* contains many AssertingVHes pointing at functions.

33d568124e [PM] Change the static object whose address is used to uniquely identify
analyses to have a common type which is enforced rather than using
a char object and a `void *` type when used as an identifier.

This has a number of advantages. First, it at least helps some of the
confusion raised in Justin Lebar's code review of why `void *` was being
used everywhere by having a stronger type that connects to documentation
about this.

However, perhaps more importantly, it addresses a serious issue where
the alignment of these pointer-like identifiers was unknown. This made
it hard to use them in pointer-like data structures. We were already
dodging this in dangerous ways to create the "all analyses" entry. In
a subsequent patch I attempted to use these with TinyPtrVector and
things fell apart in a very bad way.

And it isn't just a compile time or type system issue. Worse than that,
the actual alignment of these pointer-like opaque identifiers wasn't
guaranteed to be a useful alignment as they were just characters.

This change introduces a type to use as the "key" object whose address
forms the opaque identifier. This both forces the objects to have proper
alignment, and provides type checking that we get it right everywhere.
It also makes the types somewhat less mysterious than `void *`.

We could go one step further and introduce a truly opaque pointer-like
type to return from the `ID()` static function rather than returning
`AnalysisKey *`, but that didn't seem to be a clear win so this is just
the initial change to get to a reliably typed and aligned object serving
is a key for all the analyses.

Thanks to Richard Smith and Justin Lebar for helping pick plausible
names and avoid making this refactoring many times. =] And thanks to
Sean for the super fast review!

While here, I've tried to move away from the "PassID" nomenclature
entirely as it wasn't really helping and is overloaded with old pass
manager constructs. Now we have IDs for analyses, and key objects whose
address can be used as IDs. Where possible and clear I've shortened this
to just "ID". In a few places I kept "AnalysisID" to make it clear what
was being identified.

04d0fe9c10 [PM] Remove support for omitting the AnalysisManager argument to new
pass manager passes' `run` methods.

This removes a bunch of SFINAE goop from the pass manager and just
requires pass authors to accept `AnalysisManager<IRUnitT> &` as a dead
argument. This is a small price to pay for the simplicity of the system
as a whole, despite the noise that changing it causes at this stage.

This will also helpfull allow us to make the signature of the run
methods much more flexible for different kinds af passes to support
things like intelligently updating the pass's progression over IR units.

While this touches many, many, files, the changes are really boring.
Mostly made with the help of my trusty perl one liners.

Thanks to Sean and Hal for bouncing ideas for this with me in IRC.

8e27cb2f34 [PM] Make the AnalysisManager parameter to run methods a reference.
This was originally a pointer to support pass managers which didn't use
AnalysisManagers. However, that doesn't realistically come up much and
the complexity of supporting it doesn't really make sense.

In fact, *many* parts of the pass manager were just assuming the pointer
was never null already. This at least makes it much more explicit and
clear.

18e9a2b623 [PM] Rename the CRTP mixin base classes for the new pass manager to

Firstly, call them "...Mixin" types so it is clear that there is no

clarify that they aren't adding any interesting *semantics* to the
passes or analyses, just exposing APIs used by the management layer to
get information about the pass or analysis.

Thanks to Manuel for helping pin down the naming confusion here and come

e95015f4c9 [PM] Implement the final conclusion as to how the analysis IDs should
work in the face of the limitations of DLLs and templated static
variables.

This requires passes that use the AnalysisBase mixin provide a static
variable themselves. So as to keep their APIs clean, I've made these
private and befriended the CRTP base class (which is the common
practice).

I've added documentation to AnalysisBase for why this is necessary and
at what point we can go back to the much simpler system.

This is clearly a better pattern than the extern template as it caught
*numerous* places where the template magic hadn't been applied and
things were "just working" but would eventually have broken
mysteriously.

f1b2c7b945 [CG] Add a new pass manager printer pass for the old call graph and
actually finish wiring up the old call graph.

There were bugs in the old call graph that hadn't been caught because it
wasn't being tested. It wasn't being tested because it wasn't in the
pipeline system and we didn't have a printing pass to run in tests. This
fixes all of that.

As for why I'm still keeping the old call graph alive its so that I can
port GlobalsAA to the new pass manager with out forking it to work with
the lazy call graph. That's clearly the right eventual design, but it
seems pragmatic to defer that until its necessary. The old call graph
works just fine for GlobalsAA.

adb60a3a11 [PM] Introduce CRTP mixin base classes to help define passes and
analyses in the new pass manager.

These just handle really basic stuff: turning a type name into a string
statically that is nice to print in logs, and getting a static unique ID
for each analysis.

Sadly, the format of passes in anonymous namespaces makes using their
names in tests really annoying so I've customized the names of the no-op
passes to keep tests sane to read.

This is the first of a few simplifying refactorings for the new pass
manager that should reduce boilerplate and confusion.

aabacb67c3 [CallGraph] Teach the CallGraph about non-leaf intrinsics.
Summary:
Currently intrinsics don't affect the creation of the call graph.
This is not accurate with respect to statepoint and patchpoint
intrinsics -- these do call (or invoke) LLVM level functions.

This change fixes this inconsistency by adding a call to the external
node for call sites that call these non-leaf intrinsics. This coupled
with the fact that these intrinsics also escape the function pointer
they call gives us a conservatively correct call graph.

eb3d76da81 [Modules] Move ValueHandle into the IR library where Value itself lives.
Move the test for this class into the IR unittests as well.

This uncovers that ValueMap too is in the IR library. Ironically, the
unittest for ValueMap is useless in the Support library (honestly, so
was the ValueHandle test) and so it already lives in the IR unittests.
Mmmm, tasty layering.

c15aff93c4 [PM] [cleanup] Rearrange the public and private sections of this class
to be a bit more sensible. The public interface now is first followed by
the implementation details.

This also resolves a FIXME to make something private -- it was already
possible as the one special caller was already a friend.

No functionality changed.

df13080481 [PM] Remove the underspecified 'getRoot' method from CallGraph. It's
only user was an ancient SCC printing bit of the opt tool which really
should be walking the call graph the same way the CGSCC pass manager
does.

54fec07ec0 [PM] Split the CallGraph out from the ModulePass which creates the
CallGraph.

This makes the CallGraph a totally generic analysis object that is the
container for the graph data structure and the primary interface for
querying and manipulating it. The pass logic is separated into its own
class. For compatibility reasons, the pass provides wrapper methods for
most of the methods on CallGraph -- they all just forward.

This will allow the new pass manager infrastructure to provide its own
analysis pass that constructs the same CallGraph object and makes it
available. The idea is that in the new pass manager, the analysis pass's
'run' method returns a concrete analysis 'result'. Here, that result is
a 'CallGraph'. The 'run' method will typically do only minimal work,
deferring much of the work into the implementation of the result object
in order to be lazy about computing things, but when (like DomTree)
there is *some* up-front computation, the analysis does it prior to
handing the result back to the querying pass.

I know some of this is fairly ugly. I'm happy to change it around if
folks can suggest a cleaner interim state, but there is going to be some
amount of unavoidable ugliness during the transition period. The good
thing is that this is very limited and will naturally go away when the
old pass infrastructure goes away. It won't hang around to bother us
later.

Next up is the initial new-PM-style call graph analysis. =]
