I am experiencing stuck / interrupted behavior when using opencode. I have tried different models (gemini, ollama) but the behavior is the same.

I am constructing a request and the response is either stuck at Generating or it gets interrupted in the middle of streaming the response.

See the following screenshot of a test conversation:

I have deleted the following directories, but to no avail:

  • ~/.cache/opencode
  • ~/.bun/install/cache

OS: arch linux
opencode version: v0.5.12

Also started to have similar issues recently with gemini, especailly with gemini-2.5-pro.

OS: NixOS
opencode version: v0.5.12

Also did cleanups, but no luck, gemini just get stuck by doing enything.

For me this happens with Anthropic models, and only in a situation that I have two opencode running at the same time. The second one I run keeps doing its work and causes the first one to get stuck. The esc key doesn't help either, I have to ctrl+c twice and get back to the same session and continue.

FYI: I was running only one instance of opencode for repro and result is that gemini-2.5-pro get stuck on generating....

I faced a similar behavior with my self-hosted model (Qwen3-coder) running with vLLM. The resulting prompt coming from OpenCode sets the tool_choice field to auto, which does not play nicely with the default configuration of vLLM. It resulted into some 400 errors, but somehow OpenCode's TUI was not showing up error details and was just hanging with this Generating message. It turns out I had to use the --enable-auto-tool-choice flag of vLLM to avoid the 400s and make it work.

Doesn't help. It goes back from "working..." to "enter" state pretty quick and stops "Generating"

Same issue here stuck in generating and a queued up message too. Deleting cache, exiting out, restarting etc still doesn't fix the issue. That session is just unusable now

Tried without any MCP - works.
restarted two local containers context7, gitlab mcp, - hello works, but another promt return "Generating..."

gitlab mcp - look likes this one is the root cause in my case. TY for help.

Also have the same issue, and the worst is that killing OpenCode and restarting with opencode --continue get me to the same hanged state. Starting normally and switching to previous session via /sessions has the same effect.

The only way to fix this AFAIK is to start a completely new session, which is annoying because I need to resemble a full conversation history manually. Unless I would face the same issue at some point, which is very likely.

I'm running Arch Linux and last time I faces it I was using Claude Opus 4.1 in PLAN mode.
