Context counter does not show real context usage #1551

Often in my sessions the context counter at the top right shows a sane number, but my API calls fail stating that the real context is 5x or 10x of the displayed one.

It is trying to predict context usage, not real values. Furthermore, if you are using subagents it shows absolutely wrong values

I'm pretty sure I didn't use subagents but again I can't be 100%, also I don't have any sessions to share, sorry. I've since moved back to claude code as this problem spent my Max limits in a few minutes.
