I ended up entering a child session via ctrl + right, but somehow found it impossible to come out of it with ctrl + left as my mac kept going to the left space/desktop. I had to in the end go find the OS Setting to disable that keyboard shortcut to leave the child session.

This issue might be a duplicate of existing issues. Please check:

  • #2555: Cannot navigate to child sessions - Reports that ctrl+left and ctrl+right don't work in iTerm/Terminal on Mac, same navigation issue
  • #2649: Standard keyboard cursor navigation (Home/End key, ctrl+left/right key) - Also mentions issues with ctrl+left/right navigation behavior
  • #653: Add support for cmd+ keybinds on macOS - Requests proper Command key support on macOS instead of ctrl+ to avoid OS conflicts

The root cause appears to be that macOS users need cmd+ keybinds instead of ctrl+ to avoid conflicts with system shortcuts like space/desktop switching.

Feel free to ignore if none of these address your specific case.
