Summary

Requesting design review for significant desktop UI improvements implemented in the desktop application. This work represents a major step forward in creating a comprehensive desktop application with modern UI patterns and full SDK integration.

Changes Implemented

  • View Mode Toggle System: Chat/file viewer switching with enhanced visibility
  • Floating Chat Panel: Contextual access in file viewer mode
  • Mobile-Responsive Design: Navigation and settings optimized for all screen sizes
  • Enhanced UI Styling: Improved interactions and visual design
  • Full SDK Integration: Feature parity with web application

Files Modified

  • packages/desktop/src/pages/index.tsx - Main desktop application page
  • packages/desktop/src/components/mobile-settings.tsx - Mobile settings component
  • packages/ui/src/styles/tailwind/colors.css - Styling updates
  • packages/ui/src/components/tabs.css - Tab component styles

Current Status

  • Branch: wip-desktop on fork welseymcd/opencode
  • Status: Work in progress, ready for design discussion

Request

Please review the UI/UX design and provide feedback on:

  1. Overall design direction and patterns
  2. User experience flow between chat and file viewer modes
  3. Mobile responsiveness and accessibility
  4. Integration with existing OpenCode design system

Next Steps

  • Address design feedback from core team
  • Prepare for PR submission to sst/opencode:dev once approved
  • Continue development based on design guidance

Our desktop is still being worked on I don’t think it is quite in a state ready for contributions yet just due to a few things being in flux currently, I think we will ship something next week and then more things should be a bit more solidified
