I'm experiencing the same issue on Windows 10/11 with opencode 1.1.44.
Additional observations from my investigation:

  • The timeout occurs ~6-10 seconds after startup
  • TUI renders correctly and is fully functional after the error
  • The server process completes all initialization successfully (bun install, plugins, MCP connections)
  • The timeout happens AFTER all components are initialized
  • This appears to be a race condition where TUI waits for an event that the server already emitted before TUI started listening
    Workaround: The error can be safely ignored - it doesn't affect functionality.

Yes, I confirm that, it is the same with my situation. However, it is an error and console should be toggled after this, it is inconvinient.

I get this error when connecting without a VPN, but it disappears when the VPN is on. I checked it with Wireshark and found that the error occurs when trying to reach an Amazon AWS IP address (us-east-2 region), which are blocked in Russia. I think that's the issue.

I managed to capture 2 IP addresses that opencode tried to connect to at startup. I haven't figured out how to fix it yet. :)

I just ran strace and discovered that it phones home to two networks: 172.64.0.0/13 and 104.16.0.0/12. These are Cloudflare networks. I am now using sshuttle to tunnel them via a US-hosted VM.

If it's still relevant, I usually get rid of the error window by pressing Ctrl + P and then selecting Toggle Console.

Doing this every time I start the app is very annoying! Is there any way to turn it off permanently?

Since I'm using Windows PowerShell, the command looks like this:
$env:OPENCODE_DISABLE_MODELS_FETCH=1; opencode
