Summary

Exa-backed consistently fails with HTTP 402 (Payment Required) in OpenCode, despite . It used to work previously.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Set in the environment.
  2. Run any query (e.g. for test).

Expected

Websearch returns results or a structured error with actionable guidance.

Actual

Tool error: .
No additional response body is surfaced.

Environment

  • OpenCode CLI (current)
  • OS: WSL (Linux)
  • Date: 2026-02-03
  • not set

Notes

This previously worked without issues. If Exa now requires an API key or billing, please document the required setup or surface a clearer error message.
