To extract the `.7z` files linked on this page, you will need a file archiver like [7-Zip](http://www.7-zip.org/) or [The Unarchiver](https://theunarchiver.com/).

If ye have a PIN enabled on Luma3DS, SafeB9SInstaller gunna be givin' ye an "OTP Crypto Fail" error unless ye temporarily disable ye PIN (ye can be re-enablin' th' PIN after th' update).

There have been reports 'o a wave 'o bans bein' handed out to CFW users by Nintendo. Fer ye protection, please be followin' these steps before startin' 'tis guide:

1. Be off to System Settin's, then "Internet Setttings", then "SpotPass", then "Sending of System Information"
1. Disable th' "Sending of System Information" option
1. Be out 'o th' System Settin's
1. Go to your Friend List (the [orange Face Icon]({{ "/images/friend-list-icon.png" | absolute_url }}) in the top row of your Home Menu)
  + If you receive an error and are kicked out of the menu, the Friend List setting is either already disabled or your console cannot connect to Nintendo's servers (due to a ban or connection issues)
1. Go to the Friend List settings, then "Friend Notification Settings", then "Show friends what you're playing"
1. Disable th' "Show friends what you're playing" option
1. Exit your Friend List

### What You Need

Note that th' followin' required file, named `secret_sector.bin`, be th' same one that was found in th' various `data_input.zip` file versions. If ye already have that file on ye hard disk somewhere, ye can be usin' that one instead 'o downloadin' th' one below.

Note that, only on New 3DS, `secret_sector.bin` is needed to revert the arm9loaderhax exploit, which is why it is not needed for the installation of boot9strap on a stock console. If ye do not have a New 3DS, ye gunna not be needin' `secret_sector.bin`.

### Instructions

#### Section I - Prep Work

Fer all steps in 'tis section, overwrite any existin' files on ye SD card.

1. Power off ye device
1. Insert ye SD card into ye computer
1. Copy `boot.3dsx` to the root of your SD card
1. Copy `boot.firm` from the latest version Luma3DS `.7z` to the root of your SD card
1. Copy `arm9loaderhax.bin` from the v7.0.5 Luma3DS `.7z` to the root of your SD card
1. Create a folder named `cias` on th' root 'o ye SD card if it does not already exist
1. Copy `lumaupdater.cia` to th' `/cias/` folder on ye SD card
1. Delete any existin' `.bin` payloads in th' `/luma/payloads/` folder on ye SD card, as they gunna be incompatible wit' boot9strap Luma3DS versions
1. Copy `GodMode9.firm` from th' GodeMode9 `.zip` to th' `/luma/payloads/` folder on ye SD card
1. Copy th' `gm9` folder from th' GodMode9 `.zip` to th' root 'o ye SD card
1. Copy `SafeB9SInstaller.bin` from the SafeB9SInstaller `.zip` to the `/luma/payloads/` folder on your SD card
1. Copy `ctr-no-timeoffset.3dsx` to the `/3ds/` folder on your SD card
1. Create a folder named `boot9strap` on th' root 'o ye SD card
1. Copy `boot9strap.firm` 'n `boot9strap.firm.sha` from th' boot9strap `.zip` to th' `/boot9strap/` folder on ye SD card
1. **New 3DS Users Only:** Copy `secret_sector.bin` to th' `/boot9strap/` folder on ye SD card

1. Reinsert ye SD card into ye device

#### Section II - Installing boot9strap

1. Boot your device while holding (Start) to launch SafeB9SInstaller
  + If you see the luma configuration screen instead of SafeB9SInstaller, simply press (Start), then shutdown your 3DS and try again
  + If this gives you an error, try either using a new SD card, or formatting your current SD card (backup existing files first)
1. Wait fer all safety checks to be completed
  + If ye get an "OTP Crypto Fail" error, download <i class="fa fa-magnet" aria-hidden="true" title="'Tis be a magnet link. 1. When prompted, input th' key combo given to be installin' boot9strap
1. Once it has completed, press (A) to be rebootin' ye device.
  + If ye device shuts down on boot, ensure that ye have copied `boot.firm` from th' Luma3DS `.7z` to th' root 'o ye SD card

#### Section III - Configuring Luma3DS

1. In the Luma3DS configuration menu, use the (A) button and the D-Pad to turn on the following:    
  + **"Show NAND or user string in System Settings"**
1. Press (Start) to save 'n reboot

#### Section IV - Updating the System

If, before following this guide, you already had an EmuNAND setup and would like to move the contents of your previous EmuNAND to your new SysNAND CFW, now is the time to [follow Move EmuNAND](move-emunand) before doing this section.

1. Update ye device by settin' off to System Settin's, then "Other Settings", then goin' all th' way to th' right 'n usin' "System Update"
  + Updates while usin' B9S + Luma (what ye have) be safe
  + If 'tis gives ye an error, set ye DNS settin's to "auto"
  + If this still gives you an error, [follow CTRTransfer](ctrtransfer), then try updating again

#### Section V - Installing Luma3DS Updater

1. Launch System Settings
1. Navigate to `Data Management` -> `Nintendo 3DS` -> `Software`
1. Select your existing Luma3DS Updater
1. Select the "Delete" option, then select "Delete Software and Save Data", then press "Delete" to confirm
1. Press "Back" 3 times, then press (HOME) to return to the main menu
1. Launch FBI
1. Navigate to `SD` -> `cias`
1. Select `lumaupdater.cia`
1. Select the "Install CIA" option, then press (A) to confirm
1. Press (Home) to exit FBI

#### Section VI - Homebrew Launcher

1. Launch the Homebrew Launcher
1. Launch ctr-no-timeoffset from the list of homebrew
1. Press (A) to set the offset to 0
  + This will set the system clock to match the RTC date&time (which we will set soon)
1. Press (Start) to return to the Homebrew Launcher
1. Press (Home), then close Download Play

#### Section VI - CTRNAND Luma3DS

1. Power off ye device
1. Launch GodMode9 by holdin' (Start) durin' boot
1. If ye be prompted to create an essential files backup, press (A) to do so, then press (A) to continue once it has completed
1. If ye be prompted to fix th' RTC date&time, press (A) to do so, then set th' date 'n time, then press (A) to continue
1. Press (Home) to bring up th' action menu
1. Select "Scripts..."
1. Select "GM9Megascript"
1. Select "Scripts from Plailect's Guide"
1. Select "Setup Luma3DS to CTRNAND"
1. When prompted, push (A) to proceed
1. Press (A) to unlock SysNAND (lvl2) writing, then input the key combo given
1. Press (A) to continue

#### Section VII - Cleanup SD Card

1. Select "Cleanup SD Card"
1. When prompted, push (A) to proceed
1. Press (A) to continue
1. Press (B) to return to the main menu

#### Section VIII - Backup Essential Files

1. Select "Backup Options"
1. Select "SysNAND Backup"
1. Press (A) to confirm
  + 'Tis process gunna be takin' some time
  + If you get an error, make sure that you have at least 1.3GB of free space on your SD card
1. Press (A) to continue
1. Press (B) to return to the main menu
1. Select "Exit"
1. Press (A) to relock write permissions if prompted
1. Hold (R) and press (B) at the same time to eject your SD card
1. Insert ye SD card into ye computer
1. Copy `<date>_<serialnumber>_sysnand_###.bin` and `essential.exefs` from the `/gm9/out/` folder on your SD card to a safe location on your computer
  + Make backups in multiple locations (such as online file storage)
  + These backups will save you from a brick and/or help you recover files from the NAND image if anything goes wrong in the future
1. Delete `<date>_<serialnumber>_sysnand_###.bin` and `<date>_<serialnumber>_sysnand_###.bin.sha` from the `/gm9/out/` folder on your SD card after copying it
1. Reinsert ye SD card into ye device
1. Press (Start) to reboot ye device

This fork of Luma3DS Updater allows for boot9strap compatibility by downloading and extracting the latest Luma3DS `boot.firm` for you.

Ye can now hold (Start) on boot to launch th' Luma3DS chainloader menu (note that th' Luma3DS chainloader menu only be appearin' if it spots more than one payload).    
Ye can now hold (Start) + (Select) + (X) on boot to dump th' ARM11 bootrom (`boot11.bin`), th' ARM9 bootrom (`boot9.bin`), 'n ye console unique OTP (`OTP.bin`) to th' `/boot9strap/` folder on ye SD card (note that it gunna not have any kind 'o prompt or message when ye be doin' 'tis).
