Dify version

1.9.2

Cloud or Self Hosted

Self Hosted (Docker)

Steps to reproduce

How do I switch the dify agent mode in a locally deployed Docker container from React to Function Calling?

✔️ Expected Behavior

dify agent mode to switch to Function Calling

Actual Behavior

The agent mode of locally deployed Dify is inconsistent with that of cloud-based Dify.

You can't manually switch the agent mode between React and Function Calling in Dify's self-hosted Docker deployment. The agent mode is set automatically based on the capabilities of the model you select: if your model supports function calling, Dify will use Function Calling mode; if not, it will use React mode. There are no environment variables or Docker settings to override this behavior. To enable Function Calling mode, choose a model that supports function calling (like most recent OpenAI models). This is the same logic used in both local and cloud deployments—any difference is likely due to the model selected or its configuration, not a manual toggle or Docker-specific setting.
