Compatibility

Most of the library boots and plays. This page lists what does not, what was fixed recently, and how much to trust the test data. Current as of v3.9.1. No BIOS files are required (README: BIOS).

Known problems v3.9.1

TitleProblemTracking
White Men Can’t Jump Menu freeze, missing audio, the intro logo and gameplay tearing are fixed. Some flicker remains. v3.8.0
Doom, Hover Strike Run faster than hardware, and touchscreen taps register as repeated presses. #401 · #399 · #743
Battle Morph (CD) Reported too fast. May be paced correctly with GPU/DSP Pipeline Timing on; not yet re-verified. #331
Defender 2000 Hangs at level start with M68K Clock Scale 3x. Stock clocks are fine. #460
Doom, 2-player link play Holds 60 fps since v3.8.0, but over Wi-Fi it still plays slower than single player. #864
JaGol (JaguarDemos) Shows an almost empty field in real-BIOS mode: it seeds its Game of Life from power-on RAM, which is now zero. #876
Ruiner Pinball No longer crashes its GPU. Whether it plays correctly is unconfirmed. v3.8.0

Inserting a disc restarts the console, so a mid-session swap is a reboot. Closed as not reproducible: the Dragon’s Lair, Space Ace and BrainDead 13 interactive scenes (#737: those games start on A, B or C, not START) and the Alien vs Predator noise (#633). Reopen either if it still happens to you. What is scheduled for the next releases is on the milestones page.

Fixed recently release notes

TitleWhat was fixedRelease
Xenowings Shot and explosion sound effects were missing. A RISC store right after a divide now waits for the quotient in the one case the chip netlists show it does. v3.9.1
Homebrew and demos: Mandelbrot Demo, Jaguar Server INTRO / INTROMOD, Painter, Hubble Fade / Nebula, Drumpad2, Rayman Demo, BadCode4 (rom), Phase Zero Black screen or a crash at start: the loader put them at the wrong address. They now load where they were linked. v3.9.1
Flip Out Ran into an ILLEGAL loop in HLE and the boot ROM in BIOS mode. 1, 2 and 4 MB cartridge images now repeat across the cartridge window as on hardware. v3.8.0
Fight For Your Life (1996) Address error into the boot ROM on the real BIOS. Power-on RAM in BIOS mode is now zero-filled, as in HLE. v3.8.0
Club Drive Silent under the default HLE boot (v3.8.0). Froze or crashed a few seconds into driving, and drew a flat clear colour for its indoor walls and ceilings (v3.7.1). v3.8.0 · v3.7.1
White Men Can’t Jump Gameplay tearing, through a new “68000 only” Blitter Bus Timing value (v3.8.0). Intro logo mostly missing (v3.7.1). v3.8.0 · v3.7.1
Music Demo, Ruiner Pinball, Native Demo (bin) The DSP or GPU ran off into garbage. Music Demo now runs in both boot modes. v3.8.0
Xenowings Black gameplay, a drop back to the loader, and ignored input. Needed two Atari hardware-bug rules and 68000 prefetch emulation. Headless-verified. v3.7.1
Seven homebrew cartridge images Froze the default Accurate blitter. Six more homebrew binaries drew a black screen because they loaded at the wrong address. v3.7.1
Hover Strike (real-BIOS CD) Run-ahead diverged mid-load. v3.7.1
Memory Track saves Did not work after a no-content boot plus a disc insert. v3.7.1
Fixed in v3.7.0 and earlier
TitleWhat was fixedRelease

Myst, Space Ace (CD) Black screen after the Cyan logo, and a frozen silent intro. Myst now boots from CHD images. v3.7.0
World Tour Racing (CD) Title screen froze. FMV froze separately in v3.5.0. v3.7.0 · v3.5.0
Vid Grid, Ocean Depths, Simone (CD) CHD boot loops and black video, a TOC read bug, and boot headers refused as bad rips. v3.7.0
Fast Food 64, Frogz 64, Saucer Wars (CD homebrew) Now reach their title screens with audio. v3.7.0
PolyEngine, PlaySFX (homebrew) PolyEngine showed a black screen, or noise on the Fast blitter. PlaySFX and other headerless binaries now load. v3.7.0

Val d’Isère Skiing Snow rendered wrong. Object Processor register write order, from the Flare netlists (#354). v3.3.0
Raiden, Power Drive Rally Music dying and a black screen on HLE fast-boot; sound freezing mid-game (#344, #339, #355). v3.2.0
Alien vs Predator, Tempest 2000, Pitfall, Wolfenstein 3D Colour bars and a red shotgun background; a one-frame playfield collapse; a black screen in gameplay; missing music. v3.0.0 · v3.1.0

How much to trust the matrices

The two tables below are a headless smoke test, generated from committed logs. Reaches game code means the 68K was executing game code when the run ended. It does not mean the game can be finished, and menus are not told apart from gameplay. “No picture in the test” means the headless video check was inconclusive (some titles are audio-only or wait for a button), not that the title is broken. “Crashes at start” means the 68K was stuck in an exception loop with a black screen.

Your game is not listed, or the list says it runs and it does not? Report it in Discussions with your frontend log. The crash watchdog writes its failure signature there. libretro also keeps a community compatibility list.
