Python: add support for prompts and sample (#11508)
### Motivation and Context <!-- Thank you for your contribution to the semantic-kernel repo! Please help reviewers and future users, providing the following information: 1. Why is this change required? 2. What problem does it solve? 3. What scenario does it contribute to? 4. If it fixes an open issue, please link to the issue here. --> Allow a list of prompts to be added and exposed with the MCP server setup. This uses the built-in rendering types (all of them) to be used and exposed as prompts. Closes: #11143 ### Description <!-- Describe your changes, the overall approach, the underlying design. Python: Allow Kernel Functions from Prompt for image and audio content (#11403)
--> I noticed that even though the input and prompt rendering match what you want to use for image and audio generation, we didn't support that. This introduces just that, with two samples. This unlocks the following scenario's: - Running text to speech pipelines with set intro/outro statements - Creating function calls for image generation with limited scope and a lot of set pieces. ### Description <!-- Describe your changes, the overall approach, the underlying design. These notes will help understanding how your code works. Thanks! --> - Adds a `get_image_content` method to the TextToImageClientBase class - Adds the option to select a TextToImage or TextToAudio client in the service selector (only for non-streaming) - Adds branches in the KernelFunctionFromPrompt _invoke_internal for those types. - Adds handling the output as a FunctionResult - Adds samples for both ### Contribution Checklist <!-- Before submitting this PR, please make sure: --> - [x] The code builds clean without any errors or warnings - [x] The PR follows the [SK Contribution Guidelines](https://github.com/microsoft/semantic-kernel/blob/main/CONTRIBUTING.md) and the [pre-submission formatting script](https://github.com/microsoft/semantic-kernel/blob/main/CONTRIBUTING.md#development-scripts) raises no violations - [x] All unit tests pass, and I have added new tests where possible - [x] I didn't break anyone 😄 |

Python: restructured the client classes, agent verbs (#10834)
### Motivation and Context <!-- Thank you for your contribution to the semantic-kernel repo! Please help reviewers and future users, providing the following information: 1. Why is this change required? 2. What problem does it solve? 3. What scenario does it contribute to? 4. If it fixes an open issue, please link to the issue here. --> Added some extra ways to provide functions to the models, and allow more things to be set in the client constructor, rather then the __call__ that get's called by the async context manager. ### Description <!-- Describe your changes, the overall approach, the underlying design. These notes will help understanding how your code works. Thanks! --> - This also splits the backend classes into a new file called _open_ai_realtime.py keeping only the public classes available in the open_ai_realtime.py file. - Adds additional ways of setting up - Adds usage of model_extra to set things up in the constructor ### Contribution Checklist <!-- Before submitting this PR, please make sure: --> - [x] The code builds clean without any errors or warnings - [x] The PR follows the [SK Contribution Guidelines](https://github.com/microsoft/semantic-kernel/blob/main/CONTRIBUTING.md) and the [pre-submission formatting script](https://github.com/microsoft/semantic-kernel/blob/main/CONTRIBUTING.md#development-scripts) raises no violations - [x] All unit tests pass, and I have added new tests where possible - [x] I didn't break anyone 😄 |

Python: improved content inits, added ndarray support for binary content and small fixes to defaults (#10469)
### Motivation and Context
<!-- Thank you for your contribution to the semantic-kernel repo!
Please help reviewers and future users, providing the following
information:
1. Why is this change required?
2. What problem does it solve?
3. What scenario does it contribute to?
4. If it fixes an open issue, please link to the issue here.
-->
This PR adds support for ndarray's as the content carrier for all binary
content types (binary, image, audio) as that is more optimized for
larger content.
It also does some fixes to the initialization of those content types and
the underlying data uri type.
Also some fixes for unspecified default param in pydantic Field,
language servers do not recognize `Field("default value")` as having a
default, so changed those occurances to `Field(default="default value")`

Python: prompt template config and kernel args support for agents (#10298)
### Motivation and Context To bring the SK Python framework closer to .Net parity, we need to support the ability to specify a prompt template config and kernel arguments for ChatCompletion Agents as well as for Assistant Agents. <!-- Thank you for your contribution to the semantic-kernel repo! Please help reviewers and future users, providing the following information: 1. Why is this change required? 2. What problem does it solve? 3. What scenario does it contribute to? 4. If it fixes an open issue, please link to the issue here. --> ### Description This PR adds support for: - being able to specify a prompt template config for SK agents. - allows kernel arguments to be passed to the agent as well as during invoke - invoke args, similar to other kwargs, take precedence over agent level config. - adds test coverage - creates agent templating samples for both ChatCompletionAgents and OpenAI/AzureAssistantAgents - closes #8022 - closes #8699 <!-- Describe your changes, the overall approach, the underlying design. Python: Check for other services registered before throwing service not found. (#6149)
### Motivation and Context The `ai_service_selector` was not properly grabbing a registered service if it didn't match the first registered `service_id`. It's possible that there may be multiple prompt execution settings registered as part of a kernel function; however, only one Chat/Text completion service could be registered, and it may not be the first service id present in the dictionary. If it isn't, we shouldn't be throwing a service not found exception. <!-- Thank you for your contribution to the semantic-kernel repo! Please help reviewers and future users, providing the following information: 1. Why is this change required? 2. What problem does it solve? 3. What scenario does it contribute to? 4. Why is this change required? 2. What problem does it solve? 3. What scenario does it contribute to? 4. If it fixes an open issue, please link to the issue here. --> When the root init has to load a lot of stuff, loading the whole thing becomes slower, only one concept there Kernel, all other things must now be loaded from a sub package. The following is not the guidance: - imports within SK use the full path - init files are created as much as possible on the root+1 level (like semantic_kernel.functions) with the pieces that common developers need, except in connectors and utils, there a developer needs to go deeper - within the connectors folder this is further detailed first to ai, memory, search_engine, within ai it is further spread into the different connectors, for instance everything for openai and azure openai can be imported using `from semantic_kernel.connectors.ai.open_ai import ...`, the same within memory - imports in samples use the abbreviated path as much as possible. ### Description <!-- Describe your changes, the overall approach, the underlying design. Python: rebuilt exceptions structure; pythonic version (#5231)
--> The existing Exceptions structure was very much inspired by dotnet, this is now replaced with a pythonic implementations. This means all Exceptions derive from KernelException and then specialise for different purposes. Closes #2194 ### Description <!-- Describe your changes, the overall approach, the underlying design. These notes will help understanding how your code works. Thanks! --> Added folder for all exception types, all can be imported through `from semantic_kernel.exceptions import ...` no need for a user to know which file the relevant one is in, but keeps things tidy for developers. Removed old KernelException, added back subtypes for the errorcodes. Went through everything to make sure the `raise ... from exc` pattern is used as much as possible as that returns a better stacktrace. ### Contribution Checklist <!-- Before submitting this PR, please make sure: --> - [x] The code builds clean without any errors or warnings - [x] The PR follows the [SK Contribution Guidelines](https://github.com/microsoft/semantic-kernel/blob/main/CONTRIBUTING.md) and the [pre-submission formatting script](https://github.com/microsoft/semantic-kernel/blob/main/CONTRIBUTING.md#development-scripts) raises no violations - [x] All unit tests pass, and I have added new tests where possible - [x] I didn't break anyone 😄 |

These notes will help understanding how your code works. Thanks! --> Added: - KernelFunctionFromPrompt class - KernelFunctionFromMethod class - tests for both. Changed: - removed parts of KernelFunction that are specific to one of the two subtypes - removed expose attribute of KernelParameterMetadata as that is no longer needed ### Contribution Checklist <!-- Before submitting this PR, please make sure: --> - [x] The code builds clean without any errors or warnings - [x] The PR follows the [SK Contribution Guidelines](https://github.com/microsoft/semantic-kernel/blob/main/CONTRIBUTING.md) and the [pre-submission formatting script](https://github.com/microsoft/semantic-kernel/blob/main/CONTRIBUTING.md#development-scripts) raises no violations - [x] All unit tests pass, and I have added new tests where possible - [ ] I didn't break anyone 😄 --------- Co-authored-by: Evan Mattson <[email protected]> Co-authored-by: Evan Mattson <[email protected]> |

Python: major features for the Kernel Arguments, Function Result and new Prompt Templating (#5077)
--> Major work to replace the context with Kernel Arguments on the front-end and Function Results on the back. Updated the function decorator to a new approach, in line with dotnet. Revamps the way function are called, allowing native functions to be completely ignorant of SK, other then the decorator. This also moves things into the new folder structure in sync with dotnet. ### Description <!-- Describe your changes, the overall approach, the underlying design. These notes will help understanding how your code works. Thanks! --> Adds: - KernelArguments, a dict-like class that replaces the variables in KernelContext. Closes #4565 - FunctionResult, a class to hold the results of function executions, includes the function, the value and metadata, as well as two convenient function to get the value out of it (str and get_inner_content) the first is generic, the second specifically for KernelContent responses (from AI services). - AI Service Selector class, has a default, which is based on the order in the arguments followed by the order in the functions, can be overridden to implement your own strategy. Closes #4631 - Introduces ChatHistory and refactors the PromptTemplateConfig. Closes #4856, #4630 - Improves parsing of templates, will now all validate during creation and throw an error then, instead of some that do not check for validaty until used. - Introduces named_args block and thereby the ability to have multiple arguments for a function call in a template. Closes #5003 Updates: - kernel_function decorators, the parameter decorator was removed and instead we now use Annotated to add a description of a field and we get the type and required from the function definition. - core plugins, use the new approach to kernel_function decorators. - planners, template engines have all been updated to use the kernel and kernelarguments instead of Context. - Events have been updated, now use kernelarguments and function_result - Tokenizers support for named_args and improvements on parsing and checking. - Kernel examples and notebooks to use the latest code. - All unit and integration tests. There is more code coverage now than before. Removed: - kernelContext - kernel_function_parameter_decorator - delegate handling code for native functions - file_io_plugin and tests - SemanticFunctionConfig - ChatPromptTemplate ### Contribution Checklist <!-- Before submitting this PR, please make sure: --> - [x] The code builds clean without any errors or warnings - [x] The PR follows the [SK Contribution Guidelines](https://github.com/microsoft/semantic-kernel/blob/main/CONTRIBUTING.md) and the [pre-submission formatting script](https://github.com/microsoft/semantic-kernel/blob/main/CONTRIBUTING.md#development-scripts) raises no violations - [x] All unit tests pass, and I have added new tests where possible - [ ] I didn't break anyone 😄 --------- Co-authored-by: Evan Mattson <[email protected]> Co-authored-by: Evan Mattson <[email protected]> Co-authored-by: Evan Mattson <[email protected]> |
