Python: Remove references to text-davinci-003 text models as it causes tests to hang. (#6089)
### Motivation and Context Python PR merges were failing due to integration tests. Local integration tests were hanging on running Azure text completions. It appears text-davinci-003 was deprecated, and needed to be replaced by gpt-35-turbo-instruct. <!-- Thank you for your contribution to the semantic-kernel repo! Please help reviewers and future users, providing the following information: 1. Why is this change required? 2. What problem does it solve? 3. What scenario does it contribute to? 4. .Net Restaurant Bookings Demo (#5988)
### Motivation and Context Resolves #5960 This pull request includes several changes to the `dotnet` directory, mainly adding a new project called `BookingRestaurant` and updating dependencies. The `BookingRestaurant` is a demo application for booking restaurant tables using Microsoft Graph Bookings API. The most important changes include adding a new project to the solution, updating package versions, and adding new patterns to the markdown link check config. New Project: * [`dotnet/SK-dotnet.sln`](diffhunk://#diff-6728f39c7d31a256668698ee869487799bf43c93dc8cc7e889befe95b0ec09e6R262): Added a new project called `BookingRestaurant` to the solution. Python: drop support for python before 3.10 (#5947)
### Motivation and Context <!-- Thank you for your contribution to the semantic-kernel repo! Please help reviewers and future users, providing the following information: 1. Why is this change required? 2. What problem does it solve? 3. What scenario does it contribute to? 4. If it fixes an open issue, please link to the issue here. --> This PR drops support for python 3.8 and 3.9. Python 3.8 will go out of support in October 2024 and people should not be building on top of that now. Python 3.10 introduces the new style of typing and for KernelFunctionFromMethod that is a crucial feature and maintaining that with backward compatibility is a lot of work and limits us, hence we will also drop support for 3.9. Closes #5628 ### Description <!-- Describe your changes, the overall approach, the underlying design. These notes will help understanding how your code works. Thanks! --> Changed pyproject to reflect this Changed CICD to only run on 3.10, 3.11 and 3.12. ### Contribution Checklist <!-- Before submitting this PR, please make sure: --> - [x] The code builds clean without any errors or warnings - [x] The PR follows the [SK Contribution Guidelines](https://github.com/microsoft/semantic-kernel/blob/main/CONTRIBUTING.md) and the [pre-submission formatting script](https://github.com/microsoft/semantic-kernel/blob/main/CONTRIBUTING.md#development-scripts) raises no violations - [x] All unit tests pass, and I have added new tests where possible - [ ] I didn't break anyone 😄 |

.Net: Deleting Planners.Core source which contained pre-V1 planners. (#5875)
### Motivation and Context Before V1 was shipped, the `Planners.Core` project was excluded from the dotnet solution and from Nuget packages. The source code was left in the repo to provide a reference in case anyone still needed it. This PR deletes this code as it is no longer useful and likely creates confusion. ### Contribution Checklist <!-- Before submitting this PR, please make sure: --> - [x ] The code builds clean without any errors or warnings - [x] The PR follows the [SK Contribution Guidelines](https://github.com/microsoft/semantic-kernel/blob/main/CONTRIBUTING.md) and the [pre-submission formatting script](https://github.com/microsoft/semantic-kernel/blob/main/CONTRIBUTING.md#development-scripts) raises no violations - [x] All unit tests pass, and I have added new tests where possible - [x] I didn't break anyone 😄 --------- Co-authored-by: Ben Thomas <[email protected]> |

Python: two small updates to python workflows (#5775)

Python: Add extras and minor package updates (#5440)
### Motivation and Context <!-- Thank you for your contribution to the semantic-kernel repo! Please help reviewers and future users, providing the following information: 1. Why is this change required? 2. What problem does it solve? 3. What scenario does it contribute to? 4. If it fixes an open issue, please link to the issue here. --> Poetry groups are not the same as pip extras, so I removed the individual groups per service, replaced with the ones needed for unit tests and for integration tests (all). Then added Extras, for each connector, as well as a `all` extra. Also added a notebooks extra, this can be used instead of the first cell in the notebooks as `pip install -U semantic-kernel[notebooks]` closing #4713 Made all dependencies part of the main, tagged with optional. Python: add py3.12 to unit tests (#5191)
--> Since Python 3.12 is now released we should test with it. In the fall 3.8 will be out of support so then we should remove support for that. Since Numpy no longer support py 3.8 as of [1.25](https://numpy.org/doc/stable/release/1.25.0-notes.html) we pin that for py3.8, including other packages that depend on older version of numpy for py3.8, and allow the new versions to work against newer version of python. Closes #5144 ### Description <!-- Describe your changes, the overall approach, the underlying design. These notes will help understanding how your code works. Thanks! --> ### Contribution Checklist <!-- Before submitting this PR, please make sure: --> - [x] The code builds clean without any errors or warnings - [x] The PR follows the [SK Contribution Guidelines](https://github.com/microsoft/semantic-kernel/blob/main/CONTRIBUTING.md) and the [pre-submission formatting script](https://github.com/microsoft/semantic-kernel/blob/main/CONTRIBUTING.md#development-scripts) raises no violations - [x] All unit tests pass, and I have added new tests where possible - [x] I didn't break anyone 😄 |

Python: improved chat history parsing from xml (#5315)

Python: major features for the Kernel Arguments, Function Result and new Prompt Templating (#5077)
--> Major work to replace the context with Kernel Arguments on the front-end and Function Results on the back. Updated the function decorator to a new approach, in line with dotnet. Revamps the way function are called, allowing native functions to be completely ignorant of SK, other then the decorator. This also moves things into the new folder structure in sync with dotnet. ### Description <!-- Describe your changes, the overall approach, the underlying design. These notes will help understanding how your code works. Thanks! --> Adds: - KernelArguments, a dict-like class that replaces the variables in KernelContext. Closes #4565 - FunctionResult, a class to hold the results of function executions, includes the function, the value and metadata, as well as two convenient function to get the value out of it (str and get_inner_content) the first is generic, the second specifically for KernelContent responses (from AI services). - AI Service Selector class, has a default, which is based on the order in the arguments followed by the order in the functions, can be overridden to implement your own strategy. Closes #4631 - Introduces ChatHistory and refactors the PromptTemplateConfig. Closes #4856, #4630 - Improves parsing of templates, will now all validate during creation and throw an error then, instead of some that do not check for validaty until used. - Introduces named_args block and thereby the ability to have multiple arguments for a function call in a template. Closes #5003 Updates: - kernel_function decorators, the parameter decorator was removed and instead we now use Annotated to add a description of a field and we get the type and required from the function definition. - core plugins, use the new approach to kernel_function decorators. - planners, template engines have all been updated to use the kernel and kernelarguments instead of Context. - Events have been updated, now use kernelarguments and function_result - Tokenizers support for named_args and improvements on parsing and checking. - Kernel examples and notebooks to use the latest code. - All unit and integration tests. There is more code coverage now than before. Removed: - kernelContext - kernel_function_parameter_decorator - delegate handling code for native functions - file_io_plugin and tests - SemanticFunctionConfig - ChatPromptTemplate ### Contribution Checklist <!-- Before submitting this PR, please make sure: --> - [x] The code builds clean without any errors or warnings - [x] The PR follows the [SK Contribution Guidelines](https://github.com/microsoft/semantic-kernel/blob/main/CONTRIBUTING.md) and the [pre-submission formatting script](https://github.com/microsoft/semantic-kernel/blob/main/CONTRIBUTING.md#development-scripts) raises no violations - [x] All unit tests pass, and I have added new tests where possible - [ ] I didn't break anyone 😄 --------- Co-authored-by: Evan Mattson <[email protected]> Co-authored-by: Evan Mattson <[email protected]> Co-authored-by: Evan Mattson <[email protected]> |

Python: Pysdk issue 3980 (#5063)
### Motivation and Context This PR is to add a [Python coverage comment](https://github.com/marketplace/actions/python-coverage-comment) GitHub action to the CICD workflow, so that comments related to coverage change will be posted to a PR automatically. In this PR: 1. I updated the `DEV_SETUP.md` to include some instructions on how to enable `pre-commit` 2. I added the `coverage` package as the dev dependency 3. I updated the `.coveragerc` file so that `.coverage` is generated in relative path 4. I added the workflow for generating and posting coverage comments. <!-- Thank you for your contribution to the semantic-kernel repo!
