The openrig-core refocus hook marks a `rig queue whoami` lookup that ended in ETIMEDOUT and passes `--work-unknown-timed-out` with `--work-unknown`. With `--unresolved-work-advisory` (passed since #2582), trace-to-root.py prints "TRACE GAP — current work node UNKNOWN: queue whoami failed: spawnSync rig ETIMEDOUT" plus the project-level chain, labelled a broad orientation and not evidence of a current mission, and doesn't fail `--check`, so the timeout no longer counts toward "Refocus failed on N consecutive attempts". Non-zero exits, other spawn errors, unreadable answers, no remaining budget and a run without the advisory flag stay strict. A timed-out refocus now clears the pending post-compaction retry, as #2582's advisory does, so a slow daemon isn't queried again on every prompt. The skill digest is regenerated.
