qemu-img reports most failures, such as an image that cannot be opened, by returning from main rather than by exiting. The launcher dropped that value and always exited with 0, so on macOS a conversion, resize or snapshot operation that failed looked like it had succeeded. Snapshots of a VM that is off depend on those errors to know that a state was not deleted or reverted. Assisted-by: Claude:claude-opus-5
