To simplify the function body, invert the if() statement, returning
earlier.
Since we already checked there is enough data in the iovec buffer,
simply add an assert() call to consume the bytes_read variable.

We want to check fields from ip6_ext_hdr_routing structure
and if correct read the full in6_address. Let's directly check
if our iovec contains enough data for everything, else return
early.

The length field is already contained in the ip6_ext_hdr structure.
Check it direcly in eth_parse_ipv6_hdr() before calling
_eth_get_rss_ex_dst_addr(), which gets a bit simplified.

The minimum Ethernet frame length is 60 bytes. For short frames with
smaller length like ARP packets (only 42 bytes), on a real world NIC
it can choose either padding its length to the minimum required 60
bytes, or sending it out directly to the wire. Such behavior can be
hardcoded or controled by a register bit. Similarly on the receive
path, NICs can choose either dropping such short frames directly or
handing them over to software to handle.
On the other hand, for the network backends like SLiRP/TAP, they
don't expose a way to control the short frame behavior. As of today
they just send/receive data from/to the other end connected to them,
which means any sized packet is acceptable. So they can send and
receive short frames without any problem. It is observed that ARP
packets sent from SLiRP/TAP are 42 bytes, and SLiRP/TAP just send
these ARP packets to the other end which might be a NIC model that
does not allow short frames to pass through.
To provide better compatibility, for packets sent from QEMU network
backends like SLiRP/TAP, we change to pad short frames before sending
it out to the other end, if the other end does not forbid it via the
nc->do_not_pad flag. This ensures a backend as an Ethernet sender
does not violate the spec. But with this change, the behavior of
dropping short frames from SLiRP/TAP interfaces in the NIC model
cannot be emulated because it always receives a packet that is spec
complaint. The capability of sending short frames from NIC models is
still supported and short frames can still pass through SLiRP/TAP.
This commit should be able to fix the issue as reported with some
NIC models before, that ARP requests get dropped, preventing the
guest from becoming visible on the network. It was workarounded in
these NIC models on the receive path, that when a short frame is
received, it is padded up to 60 bytes.
The following 2 commits seem to be the one to workaround this issue
in e1000 and vmxenet3 before, and should probably be reverted.

As we use QAPI NetClientState->stored_config to store and get information
about backend network devices, we can drop fill of legacy field info_str
for them.
We still use info_str field for NIC and hubports, so we can not completely
remove it.

Replace usage of legacy field info_str of NetClientState for backend
network devices with QAPI NetdevInfo stored_config that already used
in QMP query-netdev.
This change increases the detail of the "info network" output and takes
a more general approach to composing the output.
NIC and hubports still use legacy info_str field.

The info_str field of the NetClientState structure is static and has a size
of 256 bytes. This amount is often unclaimed, and the field itself is used
exclusively for HMP "info network".
The patch translates info_str to dynamic memory allocation.
This action is also allows us to painlessly discard usage of this field
for backend devices.

The query-netdev command is used to get the configuration of the current
network device backends (netdevs).
This is the QMP analog of the HMP command "info network" but only for
netdevs (i.e. excluding NIC and hubports).
The query-netdev command returns an array of objects of the NetdevInfo
type, which are an extension of Netdev type. It means that response can
be used for netdev-add after small modification. This can be useful for
recreate the same netdev configuration.
Information about the network device is filled in when it is created or
modified and is available through the NetClientState->stored_config.

Some NIC supports loopback mode and this is done by calling
nc->info->receive() directly which in fact suppresses the effort of
reentrancy check that is done in qemu_net_queue_send().
Unfortunately we can't use qemu_net_queue_send() here since for
loopback there's no sender as peer, so this patch introduce a
qemu_receive_packet() which is used for implementing loopback mode
for a NIC with this check.
NIC that supports loopback mode will be converted to this helper.
This is intended to address CVE-2021-3416.

When a network or network device is created from the command line or HMP,
QemuOpts ensures that the id passes the id_wellformed check. However,
QMP skips this:

Identifiers consist of letters, digits, -, ., _, starting with a letter.

Validity checks should be performed always at the bottom of the call chain,
because QMP skips all the steps above. At the same time we know that every
call chain should go through either QMP or (for legacy) through QemuOpts.
Because the id for -net and -nic is automatically generated and not
well-formed by design, just add the check to QMP.

On first glance, the loop in qmp_query_rx_filter() has early return
paths that could leak any allocation of filter_list from a previous
iteration. But on closer inspection, it is obvious that all of the
early exits are guarded by has_name, and that the bulk of the loop
body can be executed at most once if the user is filtering by name,
thus, any early exit coincides with an empty list. Add asserts to
make this obvious.

At present net_checksum_calculate() blindly calculates all types of
checksums (IP, TCP, UDP). Some NICs may have a per type setting in
their BDs to control what checksum should be offloaded. To support
such hardware behavior, introduce a 'csum_flag' parameter to the
net_checksum_calculate() API to allow fine control over what type
checksum is calculated.
Existing users of this API are updated accordingly.

At present net_checksum_calculate() only calculates TCP/UDP checksum
in an IP packet, but assumes the IP header checksum to be provided
by the software, e.g.: Linux kernel always calculates the IP header
checksum. However this might not always be the case, e.g.: for an IP
checksum offload enabled stack like VxWorks, the IP header checksum
can be zero.
This adds the checksum calculation of the IP header.

To calculate the TCP/UDP checksum we need the whole datagram. Unless
the hardware has some logic to collect all fragments before sending
the whole datagram first, it can only be done by the network stack,
which is normally the case for the NICs we have seen so far.
Skip these fragmented IP packets to avoid checksum corruption.

CLI -netdev accumulates in option group "netdev".
Before commit 08712fcb85 "net: Track netdevs in NetClientState rather
than QemuOpt", netdev_add added to the option group, and netdev_del
removed from it, both HMP and QMP. Thus, every netdev had a
corresponding QemuOpts in this option group.
Commit 08712fcb85 dropped this for QMP netdev_add and both netdev_del.
Now a netdev has a corresponding QemuOpts only when it was created
with CLI or HMP. Two issues:
* QMP and HMP netdev_del can leave QemuOpts behind, breaking HMP
netdev_add. Reproducer:
$ qemu-system-x86_64 -S -display none -nodefaults -monitor stdio

When deleting queue pair, purge pending RX packets if any.
Example of problematic flow:
1. Bring up q35 VM with tap (vhost off) and virtio-net or e1000e
2. Run ping flood to the VM NIC ( 1 ms interval)
3. Hot unplug the NIC device (device_del)
During unplug process one or more packets come, the NIC
can't receive, tap disables read_poll
4. Hot plug the device (device_add) with the same netdev
The tap stays with read_poll disabled and does not receive
any packets anymore (tap_send never triggered)

"netdev_add help" is causing QEMU to exit because the code that
invokes show_netdevs is shared between CLI and HMP processing.
Move the check to the callers so that exit(0) remains only
in the CLI flow.
"netdev_add help" is not fixed by this patch; that is left for
later work.

eth_get_gso_type() routine returns segmentation offload type based on
L3 protocol type. It calls g_assert_not_reached if L3 protocol is
unknown, making the following return statement unreachable. Remove the
g_assert call, it maybe triggered by a guest user.

The virtual clock only runs during the emulation. It stops
when the virtual machine is stopped.
The host clock should be used for device models that emulate accurate
real time sources. It will continue to run when the virtual machine
is suspended. COLO need to know the host time here.

this fixes non-TCG builds broken recently by replay reverse debugging.
Stub the needed functions in stub/, splitting roughly between functions
needed only by system emulation, by system emulation and tools,
and by everyone. This includes duplicating some code in replay/, and
puts the logic for non-replay related events in the replay/ module (+
the stubs), so this should be revisited in the future.
Surprisingly, only _one_ qtest was affected by this, ide-test.c, which
resulted in a buzz as the bh events were never delivered, and the bh
never executed.
Many other subsystems _should_ have been affected.
This fixes the immediate issue, however a better way to group replay
functionality to TCG-only code could be developed in the long term.

cur_mon really needs to be coroutine-local as soon as we move monitor
command handlers to coroutines and let them yield. As a first step, just
remove all direct accesses to cur_mon so that we can implement this in
the getter function later.

SLIRP uses Meson so it could become a subproject in the future,
but our choice of configure options is not yet supported in Meson
(https://github.com/mesonbuild/meson/pull/7740).
For now, build the library via the main meson.build just like for
capstone.
This improves the current state of affairs in that we will re-link
the qemu executables against a changed libslirp.a, which we wouldn't
do before-hand.

this makes wrong features of other queues in multiqueues
situation.

There are two queues in nic assocated with one chardev.

qemu_hexdump()'s pointer to the buffer and length of the
buffer are closely related arguments but are widely separated
in the argument list order (also, the format of <stdio.h>
function prototypes is usually to have the FILE* argument
coming first).
Reorder the arguments as "fp, prefix, buf, size" which is
more logical.

Most uses of qemu_hexdump() do not take an array of char
as input, forcing use of cast. Since we can use this
helper to dump any kind of buffer, use a pointer to void
argument instead.

The reason of the error is explained by Adam Leventhal [1]:
Note that is-enabled probes don't have the stability magic so I'm not
sure how things would work if only is-enabled probes were used.
net/colo code uses is-enabled probes to determine if other probes should
be used but colo_compare_miscompare itself is not used explicitly.
Linker doesn't include the symbol and build fails.
The issue can be resolved if is-enabled probe matches the actual trace
point that is used inside the test. Packet dump toggle is replaced with
a compile-time conditional definition.

Some typedefs and macros are defined after the type check macros.
This makes it difficult to automatically replace their
definitions with OBJECT_DECLARE_TYPE.
Patch generated using:

Meson doesn't enjoy the same flexibility we have with Make in choosing
the include path. In particular the tracing headers are using
$(build_root)/$(<D).
In order to keep the include directives unchanged,
the simplest solution is to generate headers with patterns like
"trace/trace-audio.h" and place forwarding headers in the source tree
such that for example "audio/trace.h" includes "trace/trace-audio.h".
This patch is too ugly to be applied to the Makefiles now. It's only
a way to separate the changes to the tracing header files from the
Meson rewrite of the tracing logic.

The memory API allows DMA into NIC's MMIO area. This means the NIC's
RX routine must be reentrant. Instead of auditing all the NIC, we can
simply detect the reentrancy and return early. The queue->delivering
is set and cleared by qemu_net_queue_deliver() for other queue helpers
to know whether the delivering in on going (NIC's receive is being
called). We can check it and return early in qemu_net_queue_flush() to
forbid reentrant RX.

object_get_canonical_path_component() returns a malloced copy of a
property name on success, null on failure.
19 of its 25 callers immediately free the returned copy.
Change object_get_canonical_path_component() to return the property
name directly. Since modifying the name would be wrong, adjust the
return type to const char *.
Drop the free from the 19 callers become simpler, add the g_strdup()
to the other six.

When QEMU sets up a tap based network device backend, it mostly ignores errors
reported from various ioctl() calls it makes, assuming the TAP file descriptor
is valid. This assumption can easily be violated when the user is passing in a
pre-opened file descriptor. At best, the ioctls may fail with a -EBADF, but if
the user passes in a bogus FD number that happens to clash with a FD number that
QEMU has opened internally for another reason, a wide variety of errnos may
result, as the TUNGETIFF ioctl number may map to a completely different command
on a different type of file.
By ignoring all these errors, QEMU sets up a zombie network backend that will
never pass any data. Even worse, when QEMU shuts down, or that network backend
is hot-removed, it will close this bogus file descriptor, which could belong to
another QEMU device backend.
There's no obvious guaranteed reliable way to detect that a FD genuinely is a
TAP device, as opposed to a UNIX socket, or pipe, or something else. Checking
the errno from probing vnet hdr flag though, does catch the big common cases.
ie calling TUNGETIFF will return EBADF for an invalid FD, and ENOTTY when FD is
a UNIX socket, or pipe which catches accidental collisions with FDs used for
stdio, or monitor socket.
Previously the example below where bogus fd 9 collides with the FD used for the
chardev saw:

qemu_set_nonblock() checks that the file descriptor can be used and, if
not, crashes QEMU. An assert() is used for that. The use of assert() is
used to detect programming error and the coredump will allow to debug
the problem.
But in the case of the tap device, this assert() can be triggered by
a misconfiguration by the user. At startup, it's not a real problem, but it
can also happen during the hot-plug of a new device, and here it's a
problem because we can crash a perfectly healthy system.
For instance:

To avoid that, add a function, qemu_try_set_nonblock(), that allows to report the
problem without crashing.
In the same way, we also update the function for vhostfd in net_init_tap_one() and
for fd in net_init_socket() (both descriptors are provided by the user and can
be wrong).

right away. The previous commit did that with a Coccinelle script I
consider fairly trustworthy. This commit uses the same script with
the matching of return taken out, i.e. we convert

Without the "when strict", Coccinelle transforms vfio_msix_setup(),

an example where it's too narrow, see vfio_intx_enable().
Silently fails to convert hw/arm/armsse.c, because Coccinelle gets

there. Converted manually.

so that it was always included from .c files and never from other .h files.
We missed adding it to net/tap-solaris.c (which previously was pulling it
in via tap-int.h), which broke building on Solaris hosts.

Now that the "name" parameter is gone, there is hardly any difference
between NetLegacy and Netdev anymore, so we can drop NetLegacy and always
use Netdev to simplify the code quite a bit.
The only two differences that were really left between Netdev and NetLegacy:
1) NetLegacy does not allow a "hubport" type. We can continue to block
this with a simple check in net_client_init1() for this type.
2) The "id" parameter was optional in NetLegacy (and an internal id
was chosen via assign_name() during initialization), but it is mandatory
for Netdev. To avoid that the visitor code bails out here, we have to
add an internal id to the QemuOpts already earlier now.

The patch is to fix the "pkt" memory leak in packet_enqueue().
The allocated "pkt" needs to be freed if the colo compare
primary or secondary queue is too big.
Replace the error_report of full queue with a trace event.

In colo_compare_complete, insert CompareState into net_compares
only after everything has been initialized.
In colo_compare_finalize, remove CompareState from net_compares
before anything is deinitialized.

If the colo-compare object is removed before failover and a
checkpoint happens, qemu crashes because it tries to lock
the destroyed event_mtx in colo_notify_compares_event.
Fix this by checking if everything is initialized by
introducing a new variable colo_compare_active which
is protected by a new mutex colo_compare_mutex. The new mutex
also protects against concurrent access of the net_compares
list and makes sure that colo_notify_compares_event isn't
active while we destroy event_mtx and event_complete_cond.
With this it also is again possible to use colo without
colo-compare (periodic mode) and to use multiple colo-compare
for multiple network interfaces.

The chr_out chardev is connected to a filter-redirector
running in the main loop. qemu_chr_fe_write_all might block
here in compare_chr_send if the (socket-)buffer is full.
If another filter-redirector in the main loop want's to
send data to chr_pri_in it might also block if the buffer
is full. This leads to a deadlock because both event loops
get blocked.
Fix this by converting compare_chr_send to a coroutine and
putting the packets in a send queue.

qemu_bh_new will set the bh to be executed in the main
loop. This causes crashes as colo_compare_handle_event assumes
that it has exclusive access the queues, which are also
concurrently accessed in the iothread.
Create the bh with the AioContext of the iothread to fulfill
these assumptions and fix the crashes. This is safe, because
the bh already takes the appropriate locks.

The sender of packet will be checked in the qemu_net_queue_purge() but
we use NetClientState not its peer when trying to purge the incoming
queue in qemu_flush_or_purge_packets(). This will trigger the assert
in virtio_net_reset since we can't pass the sender check:
