2a85a08c99 configure: bump min required CLang to 6.0 / XCode 10.0
Several distros have been dropped since the last time we bumped the
minimum required CLang version.

Per repology, currently shipping versions are:

             RHEL-8: 10.0.1
      Debian Buster: 7.0.1
 openSUSE Leap 15.2: 9.0.1
   Ubuntu LTS 18.04: 6.0.0
   Ubuntu LTS 20.04: 10.0.0
         FreeBSD 12: 8.0.1
          Fedora 33: 11.0.0
          Fedora 34: 11.1.0

With this list Ubuntu LTS 18.04 is the constraint at 6.0.0

An LLVM version of 6.0.0 corresponds to macOS XCode version of 10.0
which dates from Sept 2018.

b4c6036faa configure: bump min required glib version to 2.56
The glib version was not previously constrained by RHEL-7 since it
rebases fairly often. Instead SLES 12 and Ubuntu 16.04 were the
constraints in 00f2cfbbec. Both of
these are old enough that they are outside our platform support
matrix now.

Per repology, current shipping versions are:

             RHEL-8: 2.56.4
      Debian Buster: 2.58.3
 openSUSE Leap 15.2: 2.62.6
   Ubuntu LTS 18.04: 2.56.4
   Ubuntu LTS 20.04: 2.64.6
            FreeBSD: 2.66.7
          Fedora 33: 2.66.8
          Fedora 34: 2.68.1
            OpenBSD: 2.68.1
     macOS HomeBrew: 2.68.1

Thus Ubuntu LTS 18.04 / RHEL-8 are the constraint for GLib version
at 2.56

d4c7ee330c crypto: bump min gnutls to 3.5.18, dropping RHEL-7 support
It has been over two years since RHEL-8 was released, and thus per the
platform build policy, we no longer need to support RHEL-7 as a build

      Debian Buster: 3.6.7
 openSUSE Leap 15.2: 3.6.7

     macOS HomeBrew: 3.6.15

Ubuntu LTS 18.04 has the oldest version and so 3.5.18 is the new minimum.

b4c10fc6fe block/ssh: Bump minimum libssh version to 0.8.7
It has been over two years since RHEL-8 was released, and thus per the
platform build policy, we no longer need to support RHEL-7 as a build
target. So from the RHEL-7 perspective, we do not have to support
libssh v0.7 anymore now.

Let's look at the versions from other distributions and operating
systems - according to repology.org, current shipping versions are:

             RHEL-8: 0.9.4
      Debian Buster: 0.8.7
 openSUSE Leap 15.2: 0.8.7
   Ubuntu LTS 18.04: 0.8.0 *
   Ubuntu LTS 20.04: 0.9.3
            FreeBSD: 0.9.5
          Fedora 33: 0.9.5
          Fedora 34: 0.9.5
            OpenBSD: 0.9.5
     macOS HomeBrew: 0.9.5
         HaikuPorts: 0.9.5

* The version of libssh in Ubuntu 18.04 claims to be 0.8.0 from the
name of the package, but in reality it is a 0.7 patched up as a
Frankenstein monster with patches from the 0.8 development branch.
This gave us some headaches in the past already and so it never worked
with QEMU. All attempts to get it supported have failed in the past,
patches for QEMU have never been merged and a request to Ubuntu to
fix it in their 18.04 distro has been ignored:

 https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libssh/+bug/1847514

Thus we really should ignore the libssh in Ubuntu 18.04 in QEMU, too.

Fix it by bumping the minimum libssh version to something that is
greater than 0.8.0 now. Debian Buster and openSUSE Leap have the
oldest version and so 0.8.7 is the new minimum.

54b0306e69 configure: Avoid error messages about missing *-config-*.h files
When compiling with --disable-system there is a harmless yet still
annoying error message at the end of the "configure" step:

sed: can't read *-config-devices.h: No such file or directory

When only building the tools or docs, without any emulator at all,
there is even an additional message about missing *-config-target.h
files.

Fix it by checking whether any of these files are available before
using them.

b80fd28156 configure: check for submodules if --with-git-submodules=ignore
Right now --with-git-submodules=ignore has a subtle difference from
just running without a .git directory, in that it does not check
that submodule sources actually exist. Move the check for
ui/keycodemapdb/README so that it happens even if the user
specified --with-git-submodules=ignore, with a customized

e0447a834d configure: Poison all current target-specific #defines
We are generating a lot of target-specific defines in the *-config-devices.h
and *-config-target.h files. Using them in common code is wrong and leads
to very subtle bugs since a "#ifdef CONFIG_SOMETHING" is not working there
as expected. To avoid these issues, we are already poisoning many of the
macros in include/exec/poison.h - but it's cumbersome to maintain this
list manually. Thus let's generate an additional list of poisoned macros
automatically from the current config switches - this should give us a
much better test coverage via the different CI configurations.

Note that CONFIG_TCG (which is also defined in config-host.h) and
CONFIG_USER_ONLY are special, so we have to filter these out.

5ecfb76ccc configure: fix detection of gdbus-codegen
"pkg-config --variable=gdbus_codegen gio-2.0" returns "gdbus-codegen",
and it does not pass test -x (which does not walk the path).

Meson 0.58.0 notices that something is iffy, as the dbus_vmstate1
assignment in tests/qtest/meson.build uses an empty string as the
command, and fails very eloquently:

../tests/qtest/meson.build:92:2: ERROR: No program name specified.

Use the "has" function instead of test -x, and fix the generation
of config-host.mak since meson.build expects that GDBUS_CODEGEN
is absent, rather than empty, if the tool is unavailable.

a5b2afd522 pc-bios/s390-ccw: Allow building with Clang, too
Clang unfortunately does not support generating code for the z900
architecture level and starts with the z10 instead. Thus to be able
to support compiling with Clang, we have to check for the supported
compiler flags. The disadvantage is of course that the bios image
will only run with z10 guest CPUs upwards (which is what most people
use anyway), so just in case let's also emit a warning in that case
(we will continue to ship firmware images that have been pre-built
with GCC in future releases, so this should not impact normal users,
too).

699d388430 configure: handle meson options that have changed type
Usually Meson uses pre-serialized information in meson-private to
speed up re-runs. This is not possible for version changes, where
Meson instead rebuilds the serialized information using cmd_line.txt.
In some cases cmd_line.txt can contain stale information, since it
is not rebuild except when "meson setup" is invoked. Update it in
the configure script to allow upgrading our Meson version.

c7328271cf configure: Do not use default_feature for EXESUF
Commit "c87ea11631 configure: add --without-default-features" use
default_feature to set default values for configure option. This value
is used for EXESUF too.

However, EXESUF is not option to be tested, it is just append to any
binary name so using --without-default-features set EXESUF to "n"o and
all binaries using it has form <name>no (e.g. qemu-imgno).

This is not expected behavior as disabling features should not cause
generating different binary names.

Reverting back to setting EXESUF to empty value unless needed otherwise.

44b99a6d5f exec: Build page-vary-common.c with -fno-lto
In bbc17caf81, we used an alias attribute to allow target_page
to be declared const, and yet be initialized late.

This fails when using LTO with several versions of gcc.
The compiler looks through the alias and decides that the const
variable is statically initialized to zero, then propagates that
zero to many uses of the variable.

This can be avoided by compiling one object file with -fno-lto.
In this way, any initializer cannot be seen, and the constant
propagation does not occur.

Since we are certain to have this separate compilation unit, we
can drop the alias attribute as well. We simply have differing
declarations for target_page in different compilation units.
Drop the use of init_target_page, and drop the configure detection
for CONFIG_ATTRIBUTE_ALIAS.

In order to change the compilation flags for a file with meson,
we must use a static_library. This runs into specific_ss, where
we would need to create many static_library instances.

Fix this by splitting page-vary.c: the page-vary-common.c part is
compiled once as a static_library, while the page-vary.c part is
left in specific_ss in order to handle the target-specific value
of TARGET_PAGE_BITS_MIN.

bc6a3565c8 configure: Improve OpenGL dependency detections
This has the following visible changes:

- GBM is required only for OpenGL dma-buf.
- X11 is explicitly required by gtk-egl.
- EGL is now mandatory for the OpenGL displays.

The last one needs some detailed description. Before this change,
EGL was tested only for OpenGL dma-buf with the check of
EGL_MESA_image_dma_buf_export. However, all of the OpenGL
displays depend on EGL and EGL_MESA_image_dma_buf_export is always
defined by epoxy's EGL interface.
Therefore, it makes more sense to always check the presence of EGL
and say the OpenGL displays are available along with OpenGL dma-buf
if it is present.

e9a16e3846 configure: Improve TCI feature description
Users might want to enable all features, without realizing some
features have negative effect. Mention the TCI feature is slow
and experimental, hoping it will be selected knowingly.

d6a66c811e configure: bump the minimum gdb version for check-tcg to 9.1
For SVE, currently the bulk of the GDB TCG tests, we need at least GDB
9.1 to support the "ieee_half" data type we report. This only affects
when GDB tests are run; users can still use lower versions of gdb as
long as they aren't talking to an SVE enabled model. The work around
is to either get a newer gdb or disable SVE for their CPU model.

2df52b9bfd configure: make version_ge more tolerant of shady version input
When checking GDB versions we have to tolerate all sorts of random
distro extensions to the version string. While we already attempt to
do some of that before we call version_ge is makes sense to try and
regularise the first input by stripping extraneous -'s. While we at it
convert the old-style shell quoting into a cleaner form t shut up my
editors linter lest it confuse me by underlining the whole line.

7d7dbf9dc1 configure: replace --enable/disable-git-update with --with-git-submodules
Replace the --enable-git-update and --disable-git-update configure params
with the param --with-git-submodules=(update|validate|ignore) to
allow 3 options for building from a git repo.

This is needed because downstream packagers, e.g. Debian, Ubuntu, etc,
also keep the source code in git, but do not want to enable the
'git_update' mode; with the current code, that's not possible even
if the downstream package specifies --disable-git-update.

The previous parameters are deprecated but still available; the
--enable-git-update parameter maps to --with-git-submodules=update and
--disable-git-update parameter maps to --with-git-submodules=validate.

The configure script behavior is slightly modified, where previously
the dtc, capstone, and slirp submodules were not validated when
--disable-git-update was specified (but were updated with git-update
enabled), now they are validated when using --with-git-submodules=validate
and are only ignored when using --with-git-submodules=ignore.

32063086a7 darwin: remove 64-bit build detection on 32-bit OS
A workaround added in early days of 64-bit OSX forced x86_64 if the
host machine had 64-bit support. This creates issues when cross-
compiling for ARM64. Additionally, the user can always use --cpu=* to
manually set the host CPU and therefore this workaround should be
removed.
