2dfb4c033f block: Accept node-name for blockdev-snapshot-delete-internal-sync
In order to remove the necessity to use BlockBackend names in the
external API, we want to allow node-names everywhere. This converts
blockdev-snapshot-delete-internal-sync to accept a node-name without
lifting the restriction that we're operating at a root node.

In case of an invalid device name, the command returns the GenericError
error class now instead of DeviceNotFound, because this is what
qmp_get_root_bs() returns.

1d13b167fd block: Accept node-name for block-commit
In order to remove the necessity to use BlockBackend names in the
external API, we want to allow node-names everywhere. This converts
block-commit to accept a node-name without lifting the restriction that
we're operating at a root node.

As libvirt makes use of the DeviceNotFound error class, we must add
explicit code to retain this behaviour because qmp_get_root_bs() only
returns GenericErrors.

Commit 0d978913 changed blockdev-backup to accept arbitrary node names

However, it forgot to make the same change in transactions and to update

40c8502822 crypto: add support for querying parameters for block encryption
When creating new block encryption volumes, we accept a list of
parameters to control the formatting process. It is useful to
be able to query what those parameters were for existing block
devices. Add a qcrypto_block_get_info() method which returns a
QCryptoBlockInfo instance to report this data.

6c7189bb29 block/gluster: add support for multiple gluster servers
This patch adds a way to specify multiple volfile servers to the gluster
block backend of QEMU with tcp|rdma transport types and their port numbers.

Problem:

Currently VM Image on gluster volume is specified like this:

file=gluster[+tcp]://host[:port]/testvol/a.img

Say we have three hosts in a trusted pool with replica 3 volume in action.
When the host mentioned in the command above goes down for some reason,
the other two hosts are still available. But there's currently no way
to tell QEMU about them.

Solution:

New way of specifying VM Image on gluster volume with volfile servers:
(We still support old syntax to maintain backward compatibility)

Basic command line syntax looks like:

Pattern I:
 -drive driver=gluster,
        volume=testvol,path=/path/a.raw,[debug=N,]
        server.0.type=tcp,
        server.0.host=1.2.3.4,
        server.0.port=24007,
        server.1.type=unix,
        server.1.socket=/path/socketfile

Pattern II:
 'json:{"driver":"qcow2","file":{"driver":"gluster",
       "volume":"testvol","path":"/path/a.qcow2",["debug":N,]
       "server":[{hostinfo_1}, ...{hostinfo_N}]}}'

   driver      => 'gluster' (protocol name)
   volume => name of gluster volume where our VM image resides
   path => absolute path of image in gluster volume
  [debug]      => libgfapi loglevel [(0 - 9) default 4 -> Error]

  {hostinfo}   => {{type:"tcp",host:"1.2.3.4"[,port=24007]},
                   {type:"unix",socket:"/path/sockfile"}}

   type => transport type used to connect to gluster management daemon,
                  it can be tcp|unix
   host        => host address (hostname/ipv4/ipv6 addresses/socket path)
   port => port number on which glusterd is listening.
   socket => path to socket file

Examples:
1.
 -drive driver=qcow2,file.driver=gluster,
        file.volume=testvol,file.path=/path/a.qcow2,file.debug=9,
        file.server.0.type=tcp,
        file.server.0.host=1.2.3.4,
        file.server.0.port=24007,
        file.server.1.type=unix,
        file.server.1.socket=/var/run/glusterd.socket
2.
  'json:{"driver":"qcow2","file":{"driver":"gluster","volume":"testvol",
         "path":"/path/a.qcow2","debug":9,"server":
         [{"type":"tcp","host":"1.2.3.4","port":"24007"},
          {"type":"unix","socket":"/var/run/glusterd.socket"}
         ]}}'

This patch gives a mechanism to provide all the server addresses, which are in
replica set, so in case host1 is down VM can still boot from any of the
active hosts.

This is equivalent to the backup-volfile-servers option supported by
mount.glusterfs (FUSE way of mounting gluster volume)

3d344c2aab qapi: change QmpInputVisitor to QSLIST
This saves a lot of memory compared to a statically-sized array,
or at least 24kb could be considered a lot on an Atari ST.
It also makes the code more similar to QmpOutputVisitor.

This removes the limit on the depth of a QObject that can be processed
into a QAPI tree. This is not a problem because QObjects can be
considered trusted; the text received on the QMP wire is untrusted
input, but the JSON parser already takes pains to limit the QObject tree
it creates. We don't need the QMP input visitor to limit it again.

werror/rerror are now available as qdev options. The stats-* options are
removed without an existing replacement; they should probably be
configurable with a separate QMP command like I/O throttling settings.

Removing id is left for another day because this involves updating
qemu-iotests cases to use node-name for everything. Before we can do
that, however, all QMP commands must support node-name.

a15fcc3cf6 qapi: Add new clone visitor
We have a couple places in the code base that want to deep-clone
one QAPI object into another, and they were resorting to serializing
the struct out to QObject then reparsing it. A much more efficient
version can be done by adding a new clone visitor.

Since cloning is still relatively uncommon, expose the use of the
new visitor via a QAPI_CLONE() macro that takes care of type-punning
the underlying function pointer, rather than generating lots of
unused functions for types that won't be cloned. And yes, we're
relying on the compiler treating all pointers equally, even though
a strict C program cannot portably do so - but we're not the first
one in the qemu code base to expect it to work (hello, glib!).

The choice of adding a fourth visitor type deserves some explanation.
On the surface, the clone visitor is mostly an input visitor (it
takes arbitrary input - in this case, another QAPI object - and
creates a new QAPI object during the course of the visit). But
ever since commit da72ab0 consolidated enum visits based on the
visitor type, using VISITOR_INPUT would cause us to run
visit_type_str(), even though for cloning there is nothing to do
(we just copy the enum value across, without regards to its mapping
to strings). Also, since our input happens to be a QAPI object,
we can also satisfy the internal checks for VISITOR_OUTPUT. So in
the end, I settled with a new VISITOR_CLONE, and chose its value
such that many internal checks can use 'v->type & mask', sticking
to 'v->type == value' where the difference matters.

Note that we can only clone objects (including alternates) and lists,
not built-ins or enums. The visitor core hides integer width from
the actual visitor (since commit 04e070d), and as long as that's the
case, we can't clone top-level integers. Then again, those can
always be cloned by direct copy, since they are not objects with
deep pointers, so it's no real loss. And restricting cloning to
just objects and lists is cleaner than restricting it to non-integers.
As such, I documented that the clone visitor is for direct use only
by code internal to QAPI, and should not be used on incomplete objects
(other than a hack to work around the fact that we allow NULL in place
of "" in visit_type_str() in other output visitors). Note that as
written, the clone visitor will never fail on a complete object.

Scalars (including enums) not at the root of the clone copy just fine
with no additional effort while visiting the scalar, by virtue of a
g_memdup() each time we push another struct onto the stack. Cloning
a string requires deduplication of a pointer, which means it can also
provide the guarantee of an input visitor of never producing NULL
even when still accepting NULL in place of "" the way the QMP output
visitor does.

Cloning an 'any' type could be possible by incrementing the QObject
refcnt, but it's not obvious whether that is better than implementing
a QObject deep clone. So for now, we document it as unsupported,
and intentionally omit the .type_any() callback to let a developer
know their usage needs implementation.

Add testsuite coverage for several different clone situations, to
ensure that the code is working. I also tested that valgrind was
happy with the test.

3b098d5697 qapi: Add new visit_complete() function
Making each output visitor provide its own output collection
function was the only remaining reason for exposing visitor
sub-types to the rest of the code base. Add a polymorphic
visit_complete() function which is a no-op for input visitors,
and which populates an opaque pointer for output visitors. For
maximum type-safety, also add a parameter to the output visitor
constructors with a type-correct version of the output pointer,
and assert that the two uses match.

This approach was considered superior to either passing the
output parameter only during construction (action at a distance
during visit_free() feels awkward) or only during visit_complete()
(defeating type safety makes it easier to use incorrectly).

Most callers were function-local, and therefore a mechanical
conversion; the testsuite was a bit trickier, but the previous
cleanup patch minimized the churn here.

The visit_complete() function may be called at most once; doing
so lets us use transfer semantics rather than duplication or
ref-count semantics to get the just-built output back to the
caller, even though it means our behavior is not idempotent.

2c0ef9f411 qapi: Add new visit_free() function
Making each visitor provide its own (awkwardly-named) FOO_cleanup()
is unusual, when we can instead have a polymorphic visit_free()
interface. Over the next few patches, we can use the polymorphic
functions to eliminate the need for a FOO_get_visitor() function
for accessing specific visitor functionality, once everything can
be accessed directly through the Visitor* interfaces.

The dealloc visitor is the first one converted to completely use
the new entry point, since qapi_dealloc_visitor_cleanup() was the
only reason that qapi_dealloc_get_visitor() existed, and only
generated and testsuite code was even using it. With the new
visit_free() entry point in place, we no longer need to expose
the QapiDeallocVisitor subtype through qapi_dealloc_visitor_new(),
and can get by with less generated code, with diffs that look like:

| void qapi_free_ACPIOSTInfo(ACPIOSTInfo *obj)
| {
|-    QapiDeallocVisitor *qdv;
|     Visitor *v;
|
|     if (!obj) {
|         return;
|     }
|
|-    qdv = qapi_dealloc_visitor_new();
|-    v = qapi_dealloc_get_visitor(qdv);
|+    v = qapi_dealloc_visitor_new();
|     visit_type_ACPIOSTInfo(v, NULL, &obj, NULL);

1158bb2a05 qapi: Add parameter to visit_end_*
Rather than making the dealloc visitor track of stack of pointers
remembered during visit_start_* in order to free them during
visit_end_*, it's a lot easier to just make all callers pass the
same pointer to visit_end_*. The generated code has access to the
same pointer, while all other users are doing virtual walks and
can pass NULL. The dealloc visitor is then greatly simplified.

All three visit_end_*() functions intentionally take a void**,
even though the visit_start_*() functions differ between void**,
GenericList**, and GenericAlternate**. This is done for several
reasons: when doing a virtual walk, passing NULL doesn't care
what the type is, but when doing a generated walk, we already
have to cast the caller's specific FOO* to call visit_start,
while using void** lets us use visit_end without a cast. Also,
an upcoming patch will add a clone visitor that wants to use
the same implementation for all three visit_end callbacks,
which is made easier if all three share the same signature.

For visitors with already track per-object state (the QMP visitors
via a stack, and the string visitors which do not allow nesting),
add an assertion that the caller is indeed passing the same
pointer to paired calls.

835db3ee7b blkdebug: Set request_alignment during .bdrv_refresh_limits()
We want to eventually stick request_alignment alongside other
BlockLimits, but first, we must ensure it is populated at the
same time as all other limits, rather than being a special case
that is set only when a block is first opened.

Note that when the user does not provide "align", then we were
defaulting to bs->request_alignment - but at this stage in the
initialization, that was always 512. We were also rejecting an
explicit "align":0 from the user; this patch now allows that,
as an explicit request for the default alignment (which may not
always be 512 in the future).

qemu-iotests 77 is particularly sensitive to the fact that we
can specify an artificial alignment override in blkdebug, and
that override must continue to work even when limits are
refreshed on an already open device.

7c47959d0c qapi: Simplify use of range.h
Calling our function g_list_insert_sorted_merged is a misnomer,
since we are NOT writing a glib function. Furthermore, we are
making every caller pass the same comparator function of
range_merge(): any caller that would try otherwise would break
in weird ways since our internal call to ranges_can_merge() is
hard-coded to operate only on ranges, rather than paying
attention to the caller's comparator.

Better is to fix things so that callers don't have to care about
our internal comparator, by picking a function name and updating
the parameter type away from a gratuitous use of void*, to make
it obvious that we are operating specifically on a list of ranges
and not a generic list. Plus, refactoring the code here will
make it easier to plug a memory leak in the next patch.

range_compare() is now internal only, and moves to the .c file.

68ab47e4b4 qapi: Change visit_type_FOO() to no longer return partial objects
Returning a partial object on error is an invitation for a careless
caller to leak memory. We already fixed things in an earlier
patch to guarantee NULL if visit_start fails ("qapi: Guarantee
NULL obj on input visitor callback error"), but that does not
help the case where visit_start succeeds but some other failure
happens before visit_end, such that we leak a partially constructed
object outside visit_type_FOO(). As no one outside the testsuite
was actually relying on these semantics, it is cleaner to just
document and guarantee that ALL pointer-based visit_type_FOO()
functions always leave a safe value in *obj during an input visitor
(either the new object on success, or NULL if an error is
encountered), so callers can now unconditionally use
qapi_free_FOO() to clean up regardless of whether an error occurred.

The decision is done by adding visit_is_input(), then updating the
generated code to check if additional cleanup is needed based on
the type of visitor in use.

Note that we still leave *obj unchanged after a scalar-based
visit_type_FOO(); I did not feel like auditing all uses of
visit_type_Enum() to see if the callers would tolerate a specific
sentinel value (not to mention having to decide whether it would
be better to use 0 or ENUM__MAX as that sentinel).

d9f62dde13 qapi: Simplify semantics of visit_next_list()
The semantics of the list visit are somewhat baroque, with the
following pseudocode when FooList is used:

start()
for (prev = head; cur = next(prev); prev = &cur) {
    visit(&cur->value)
}

Note that these semantics (advance before visit) requires that
the first call to next() return the list head, while all other
calls return the next element of the list; that is, every visitor
implementation is required to track extra state to decide whether
to return the input as-is, or to advance. It also requires an
argument of 'GenericList **' to next(), solely because the first
iteration might need to modify the caller's GenericList head, so
that all other calls have to do a layer of dereferencing.

Thankfully, we only have two uses of list visits in the entire
code base: one in spapr_drc (which completely avoids
visit_next_list(), feeding in integers from a different source
than uint8List), and one in qapi-visit.py. That is, all other
list visitors are generated in qapi-visit.c, and share the same
paradigm based on a qapi FooList type, so we can refactor how
lists are laid out with minimal churn among clients.

We can greatly simplify things by hoisting the special case
into the start() routine, and flipping the order in the loop
to visit before advance:

start(head)
for (tail = *head; tail; tail = next(tail)) {
    visit(&tail->value)
}

With the simpler semantics, visitors have less state to track,
the argument to next() is reduced to 'GenericList *', and it
also becomes obvious whether an input visitor is allocating a
FooList during visit_start_list() (rather than the old way of
not knowing if an allocation happened until the first
visit_next_list()). As a minor drawback, we now allocate in
two functions instead of one, and have to pass the size to
both functions (unless we were to tweak the input visitors to
cache the size to start_list for reuse during next_list, but
that defeats the goal of less visitor state).

The signature of visit_start_list() is chosen to match
visit_start_struct(), with the new parameters after 'name'.

The spapr_drc case is a virtual visit, done by passing NULL for
list, similarly to how NULL is passed to visit_start_struct()
when a qapi type is not used in those visits. It was easy to
provide these semantics for qmp-output and dealloc visitors,
and a bit harder for qmp-input (several prerequisite patches
refactored things to make this patch straightforward). But it
turned out that the string and opts visitors munge enough other
state during visit_next_list() to make it easier to just
document and require a GenericList visit for now; an assertion
will remind us to adjust things if we need the semantics in the
future.

Several pre-requisite cleanup patches made the reshuffling of
the various visitors easier; particularly the qmp input visitor.

15c2f669e3 qapi: Split visit_end_struct() into pieces
As mentioned in previous patches, we want to call visit_end_struct()
functions unconditionally, so that visitors can release resources
tied up since the matching visit_start_struct() without also having
to worry about error priority if more than one error occurs.

Even though error_propagate() can be safely used to ignore a second
error during cleanup caused by a first error, it is simpler if the
cleanup cannot set an error. So, split out the error checking
portion (basically, input visitors checking for unvisited keys) into
a new function visit_check_struct(), which can be safely skipped if
any earlier errors are encountered, and leave the cleanup portion
(which never fails, but must be called unconditionally if
visit_start_struct() succeeded) in visit_end_struct().

56a6f02b8c qmp: Tighten output visitor rules
Tighten assertions in the QMP output visitor, so that:

- qmp_output_get_qobject() can only be called after pairing a
visit_end_* for every visit_start_* (rather than allowing it on
a partially built object)

- qmp_output_get_qobject() cannot be called unless at least one
visit_type_* or visit_start/visit_end pair has occurred since
creation/reset (the accidental return of NULL fixed by commit
ab8bf1d7 would have been much easier to diagnose)

- ensure that we are encountering the expected object or list
type, to provide protection against mismatched push(struct)/
pop(list) or push(list)/pop(struct), similar to the qmp-input
protection added in commit bdd8e6b5.

- ensure that except for the root, 'name' is non-null inside a
dict, and NULL inside a list (this may need changing later if
we add "name.0" support for better error messages for a list,
but for now it makes sure all users are at least consistent)

3df016f185 qmp: Support explicit null during visits
Implement the new type_null() callback for the qmp input and
output visitors. While we don't yet have a use for this in QAPI
input (the generator will need some tweaks first), some
potential usages have already been discussed on the list.
Meanwhile, the output visitor could already output explicit null
via type_any, but this gives us finer control.

At any rate, it's easy to test that we can round-trip an explicit
null through manual use of visit_type_null() wrapped by a virtual
visit_start_struct() walk, even if we can't do the visit in a
QAPI type. Repurpose the test_visitor_out_empty test,
particularly since a future patch will tighten semantics to
forbid use of qmp_output_get_qobject() without at least one
intervening visit_type_*.

3bc97fd592 qapi: Add visit_type_null() visitor
Right now, qmp-output-visitor happens to produce a QNull result
if nothing is actually visited between the creation of the visitor
and the request for the resulting QObject. A stronger protocol
would require that a QMP output visit MUST visit something. But
to still be able to produce a JSON 'null' output, we need a new
visitor function that states our intentions. Yes, we could say
that such a visit must go through visit_type_any(), but that
feels clunky.

So this patch introduces the new visit_type_null() interface and
its no-op interface in the dealloc visitor, and stubs in the
qmp visitors (the next patch will finish the implementation).
For the visitors that will not implement the callback, document
the situation. The code in qapi-visit-core unconditionally
dereferences the callback pointer, so that a segfault will inform
a developer if they need to implement the callback for their
choice of visitor.

Note that JSON has a primitive null type, with the single value
null; likewise with the QNull type for QObject; but for QAPI,
we just have the 'null' value without a null type. We may
eventually want to add more support in QAPI for null (most likely,
we'd use it via an alternate type that permits 'null' or an
object); but we'll create that usage when we need it.

adfb264c9e qapi: Document visitor interfaces, add assertions
The visitor interface for mapping between QObject/QemuOpts/string
and QAPI is scandalously under-documented, making changes to visitor
core, individual visitors, and users of visitors difficult to
coordinate. Among other questions: when is it safe to pass NULL,
vs. when a string must be provided; which visitors implement which
callbacks; the difference between concrete and virtual visits.

Correct this by retrofitting proper contracts, and document where some
of the interface warts remain (for example, we may want to modify
visit_end_* to require the same 'obj' as the visit_start counterpart,
so the dealloc visitor can be simplified). Later patches in this
series will tackle some, but not all, of these warts.

Add assertions to (partially) enforce the contract. Some of these
were only made possible by recent cleanup commits.

fcf3cb2178 qmp-input: Refactor when list is advanced
In the QMP input visitor, visiting a list traverses two objects:
the QAPI GenericList of the caller (which gets advanced in
visit_next_list() regardless of this patch), and the QList input
that we are converting to QAPI. For consistency with QDict
visits, we want to consume elements from the input QList during
the visit_type_FOO() for the list element; that is, we want ALL
the code for consuming an input to live in qmp_input_get_object(),
rather than having it split according to whether we are visiting
a dict or a list. Making qmp_input_get_object() the common point
of consumption will make it easier for a later patch to refactor
visit_start_list() to cover the GenericList * head of a QAPI list,
and in turn will get rid of the 'first' flag (which lived in
qmp_input_next_list() pre-patch, and is hoisted to StackObject
by this patch).

This patch is therefore altering the post-condition use of 'entry',
while keeping what gets visited unchanged, from:

        start_list next_list type_ELT ... next_list type_ELT next_list end_list
 visits                      1st elt                last elt
 entry NULL 1st elt 1st elt last elt last elt NULL gone

where type_ELT() returns (entry ? entry : 1st elt) and next_list() steps
entry

to this usage:

        start_list next_list type_ELT ... next_list type_ELT next_list end_list
 visits                      1st elt                last elt
 entry 1st elt 1nd elt 2nd elt last elt NULL NULL gone

where type_ELT() steps entry and returns the old entry, and next_list()
leaves entry alone.

ce140b1769 qmp-input: Require struct push to visit members of top dict
Don't embed the root of the visit into the stack of current
containers being visited. That way, we no longer get confused
on whether the first visit of a dictionary is to the dictionary
itself or to one of the members of the dictionary, based on
whether the caller passed name=NULL; and makes the QMP Input
visitor like other visitors where the value of 'name' is now
ignored on the root visit. (We may someday want to revisit
the rules on what 'name' should be on a top-level visit,
rather than just ignoring it; but that would be the topic of
another patch).

An audit of all qmp_input_visitor_new() call sites shows that
there were only two places where callers had previously been
visiting to a QDict with a non-NULL name to bypass a call to
visit_start_struct(), and those were fixed in prior patches.

visiting a QObject, and not a NULL value. In particular, the
check for 'name && qobject_type(qobj) == QTYPE_QDICT)' is a
bit overkill (a dict visit should always have a name); a later
patch revisits that, while this patch is only changing one
layer of indentation due to dropping 'if (qobj)'.

e58d695e6c qapi: Guarantee NULL obj on input visitor callback error
Our existing input visitors were not very consistent on errors in a
function taking 'TYPE **obj'. These are start_struct(),
start_alternate(), type_str(), and type_any().  next_list() is
similar, but can't fail (see commit 08f9541). While all of them set
'*obj' to allocated storage on success, it was not obvious whether
'*obj' was guaranteed safe on failure, or whether it was left
uninitialized. But a future patch wants to guarantee that
visit_type_FOO() does not leak a partially-constructed obj back to
the caller; it is easier to implement this if we can reliably state
that input visitors assign '*obj' regardless of success or failure,
and that on failure *obj is NULL. Add assertions to enforce
consistency in the final setting of err vs. *obj.

The opts-visitor start_struct() doesn't set an error, but it
also was doing a weird check for 0 size; all callers pass in
non-zero size if obj is non-NULL.

The testsuite has at least one spot where we no longer need
to pre-initialize a variable prior to a visit; valgrind confirms
that the test is still fine with the cleanup.

A later patch will document the design constraint implemented
here.

983f52d4b3 qapi-visit: Add visitor.type classification
We have three classes of QAPI visitors: input, output, and dealloc.
Currently, all implementations of these visitors have one thing in
common based on their visitor type: the implementation used for the
visit_type_enum() callback. But since we plan to add more such
common behavior, in relation to documenting and further refining
the semantics, it makes more sense to have the visitor
implementations advertise which class they belong to, so the common
qapi-visit-core code can use that information in multiple places.

A later patch will better document the types of visitors directly
in visitor.h.

For this patch, knowing the class of a visitor implementation lets
us make input_type_enum() and output_type_enum() become static
functions, by replacing the callback function Visitor.type_enum()
with the simpler enum member Visitor.type. Share a common
assertion in qapi-visit-core as part of the refactoring.

Move comments in opts-visitor.c to match the refactored layout.

78368575a6 block: add generic full disk encryption driver
Add a block driver that is capable of supporting any full disk
encryption format. This utilizes the previously added block
encryption code, and at this time supports the LUKS format.

The driver code is capable of supporting any format supported
by the QCryptoBlock module, so it registers one block driver
for each format. This patch only registers the "luks" driver
since the "qcow" driver is there only for back-compatibility
with existing qcow built-in encryption.

New LUKS compatible volumes can be formatted using qemu-img
with defaults for all settings.

$ qemu-img create --object secret,data=123456,id=sec0 \
      -f luks -o key-secret=sec0 demo.luks 10G

Alternatively the cryptographic settings can be explicitly
set

$ qemu-img create --object secret,data=123456,id=sec0 \
      -f luks -o key-secret=sec0,cipher-alg=aes-256,\
                 cipher-mode=cbc,ivgen-alg=plain64,hash-alg=sha256 \
      demo.luks 10G

And query its size

$ qemu-img info demo.img
image: demo.img
file format: luks
virtual size: 10G (10737418240 bytes)
disk size: 132K
encrypted: yes

Note that it was not necessary to provide the password
when querying info for the volume. The password is only
required when performing I/O on the volume

All volumes created by this new 'luks' driver should be
capable of being opened by the kernel dm-crypt driver.

The only algorithms listed in the LUKS spec that are
not currently supported by this impl are sha512 and
ripemd160 hashes and cast6 cipher.

da34e65cb4 include/qemu/osdep.h: Don't include qapi/error.h
Commit 57cb38b included qapi/error.h into qemu/osdep.h to get the
Error typedef. Since then, we've moved to include qemu/osdep.h
everywhere. Its file comment explains: "To avoid getting into
possible circular include dependencies, this file should not include
any other QEMU headers, with the exceptions of config-host.h,
compiler.h, os-posix.h and os-win32.h, all of which are doing a
similar job to this file and are under similar constraints."
qapi/error.h doesn't do a similar job, and it doesn't adhere to
similar constraints: it includes qapi-types.h. That's in excess of
100KiB of crap most .c files don't actually need.

Add the typedef to qemu/typedefs.h, and include that instead of
qapi/error.h. Include qapi/error.h in .c files that need it and don't
get it now. Include qapi-types.h in qom/object.h for uint16List.

Update scripts/clean-includes accordingly. Update it further to match
reality: replace config.h by config-target.h, add sysemu/os-posix.h,
sysemu/os-win32.h. Update the list of includes in the qemu/osdep.h
comment quoted above similarly.

This reduces the number of objects depending on qapi/error.h from "all
of them" to less than a third. Unfortunately, the number depending on
qapi-types.h shrinks only a little. More work is needed for that one.

3666a97f78 qapi: Use anonymous bases in QMP flat unions
Now that the generator supports it, we might as well use an
anonymous base rather than breaking out a single-use Base
structure, for all three of our current QMP flat unions.

Oddly enough, this change does not affect the resulting
introspection output (because we already inline the members of
a base type into an object, and had no independent use of the
base type reachable from a command).

The case_whitelist now has to list the name of an implicit
type; which is not too bad (consider it a feature if it makes
it harder for developers to make the whitelist grow :)

dbf1192262 qapi: Change visit_start_implicit_struct to visit_start_alternate

544a373159 qapi: Don't box branches of flat unions
There's no reason to do two malloc's for a flat union; let's just
inline the branch struct directly into the C union branch of the
flat union.

Surprisingly, fewer clients were actually using explicit references
to the branch types in comparison to the number of flat unions
thus modified.

This lets us reduce the hack in qapi-types:gen_variants() added in
the previous patch; we no longer need to distinguish between
alternates and flat unions.

The change to unboxed structs means that u.data (added in commit
cee2dedb) is now coincident with random fields of each branch of
the flat union, whereas beforehand it was only coincident with
pointers (since all branches of a flat union have to be objects).
Note that this was already the case for simple unions - but there
we got lucky. Remember, visit_start_union() blindly returns true
for all visitors except for the dealloc visitor, where it returns
the value !!obj->u.data, and that this result then controls
whether to proceed with the visit to the variant. Pre-patch,
this meant that flat unions were testing whether the boxed pointer
was still NULL, and thereby skipping visit_end_implicit_struct()
and avoiding a NULL dereference if the pointer had not been
allocated. The same was true for simple unions where the current
branch had pointer type, except there we bypassed visit_type_FOO().
But for simple unions where the current branch had scalar type, the
contents of that scalar meant that the decision to call
visit_type_FOO() was data-dependent - the reason we got lucky there
is that visit_type_FOO() for all scalar types in the dealloc visitor
is a no-op (only the pointer variants had anything to free), so it
did not matter whether the dealloc visit was skipped. But with this
patch, we would risk leaking memory if we could skip a call to
visit_type_FOO_fields() based solely on a data-dependent decision.

But notice: in the dealloc visitor, visit_type_FOO() already handles
a NULL obj - it was only the visit_type_implicit_FOO() that was
failing to check for NULL. And now that we have refactored things to
have the branch be part of the parent struct, we no longer have a
separate pointer that can be NULL in the first place. So we can just
delete the call to visit_start_union() altogether, and blindly visit
the branch type; there is no change in behavior except to the dealloc
visitor, where we now unconditionally visit the branch, but where that
visit is now always safe (for a flat union, we can no longer
dereference NULL, and for a simple union, visit_type_FOO() was already
safely handling NULL on pointer types).

Unfortunately, simple unions are not as easy to switch to unboxed
layout; because we are special-casing the hidden implicit type with
a single 'data' member, we really DO need to keep calling another
layer of visit_start_struct(), with a second malloc; although there
are some cleanups planned for simple unions in later patches.

visit_start_union() and gen_visit_implicit_struct() are now unused.
Drop them.

Note that after this patch, the only remaining use of
visit_start_implicit_struct() is for alternate types; the next patch
will do further cleanup based on that fact.

e65d89bf1a qapi: Adjust layout of FooList types
By sticking the next pointer first, we don't need a union with
64-bit padding for smaller types. On 32-bit platforms, this
can reduce the size of uint8List from 16 bytes (or 12, depending
on whether 64-bit ints can tolerate 4-byte alignment) down to 8.
It has no effect on 64-bit platforms (where alignment still
dictates a 16-byte struct); but fewer anonymous unions is still
a win in my book.

It requires visit_next_list() to gain a size parameter, to know
what size element to allocate; comparable to the size parameter
of visit_start_struct().

I debated about going one step further, to allow for fewer casts,
by doing:
    typedef GenericList GenericList;
    struct GenericList {
        GenericList *next;
    };
    struct FooList {
        GenericList base;
        Foo *value;
    };
so that you convert to 'GenericList *' by '&foolist->base', and
back by 'container_of(generic, GenericList, base)' (as opposed to
the existing '(GenericList *)foolist' and '(FooList *)generic').
But doing that would require hoisting the declaration of
GenericList prior to inclusion of qapi-types.h, rather than its
current spot in visitor.h; it also makes iteration a bit more
verbose through 'foolist->base.next' instead of 'foolist->next'.

Note that for lists of objects, the 'value' payload is still
hidden behind a boxed pointer. Someday, it would be nice to do:

struct FooList {
    FooList *next;
    Foo value;
};

for one less level of malloc for each list element. This patch
is a step in that direction (now that 'next' is no longer at a
fixed non-zero offset within the struct, we can store more than
just a pointer's-worth of data as the value payload), but the
actual conversion would be a task for another series, as it will
touch a lot of code.

f96493b1ab qapi: Simplify excess input reporting in input visitors
When reporting that an unvisited member remains at the end of an
input visit for a struct, we were using g_hash_table_find()
coupled with a callback function that always returns true, to
locate an arbitrary member of the hash table. But if all we
need is an arbitrary entry, we can get that from a single-use
iterator, without needing a tautological callback function.

Technically, our cast of &(GQueue *) to (void **) is not strict
C (while void * must be able to hold all other pointers, nothing
says a void ** has to be the same width or representation as a
GQueue **). The kosher way to write it would be the verbose:

    void *tmp;
    GQueue *any;
    if (g_hash_table_iter_next(&iter, NULL, &tmp)) {
        any = tmp;

But our code base (not to mention glib itself) already has other
cases of assuming that ALL pointers have the same width and
representation, where a compiler would have to go out of its way
to mis-compile our borderline behavior.

455ba08afd qmp: Don't abuse stack to track qmp-output root
The previous commit documented an inconsistency in how we are
using the stack of qmp-output-visitor. Normally, pushing a
single top-level object puts the object on the stack twice:
once as the root, and once as the current container being
appended to; but popping that struct only pops once. However,
qmp_ouput_add() was trying to either set up the added object
as the new root (works if you parse two top-level scalars in a
row: the second replaces the first as the root) or as a member
of the current container (works as long as you have an open
container on the stack; but if you have popped the first
top-level container, it then resolves to the root and still
tries to add into that existing container).

Fix the stupidity by not tracking two separate things in the
stack. Drop the now-useless qmp_output_first() and
qmp_output_last() while at it.

Saved for a later patch: we still are rather sloppy in that
qmp_output_get_object() can be called in the middle of a parse,
rather than requiring that a visit is complete.

a861564015 qmp: Fix reference-counting of qnull on empty output visit
Commit 6c2f9a15 ensured that we would not return NULL when the
caller used an output visitor but had nothing to visit. But
in doing so, it added a FIXME about a reference count leak
that could abort qemu in the (unlikely) case of SIZE_MAX such
visits (more plausible on 32-bit). (Although that commit
suggested we might fix it in time for 2.5, we ran out of time;
fortunately, it is unlikely enough to bite that it was not
worth worrying about during the 2.5 release.)

This fixes things by documenting the internal contracts, and
explaining why the internal function can return NULL and only
the public facing interface needs to worry about qnull(),
thus avoiding over-referencing the qnull_ global object.

It does not, however, fix the stupidity of the stack mixing
up two separate pieces of information; add a FIXME to explain
that issue, which will be fixed shortly in a future patch.

08f9541dec qapi: Drop unused error argument for list and implicit struct
No backend was setting an error when ending the visit of a list or
implicit struct, or when moving to the next list node. Make the
callers a bit easier to follow by making this a part of the contract,

an object as part of cleanup without having to think about whether a
second error is dominated by a first, because there is no second
error.

visit_end_struct(), which can indeed set an error.

0b2a0d6bb2 qapi: Swap 'name' in visit_* callbacks to match public API
As explained in the previous patches, matching argument order of
'name, &value' to JSON's "name":value makes sense. However,
while the last two patches were easy with Coccinelle, I ended up
doing this one all by hand. Now all the visitor callbacks match
the main interface.

The compiler is able to enforce that all clients match the changed
interface in visitor-impl.h, even where two pointers are being
swapped, because only one of the two pointers is const (if that
were not the case, then C's looseness on treating 'char *' like
'void *' would have made review a bit harder).

51e72bc1dd qapi: Swap visit_* arguments for consistent 'name' placement
JSON uses "name":value, but many of our visitor interfaces were
called with visit_type_FOO(v, &value, name, errp). This can be
a bit confusing to have to mentally swap the parameter order to
match JSON order. It's particularly bad for visit_start_struct(),
where the 'name' parameter is smack in the middle of the
otherwise-related group of 'obj, kind, size' parameters! It's
time to do a global swap of the parameter ordering, so that the
'name' parameter is always immediately after the Visitor argument.

Additional reason in favor of the swap: the existing include/qjson.h
prefers listing 'name' first in json_prop_*(), and I have plans to
unify that file with the qapi visitors; listing 'name' first in
qapi will minimize churn to the (admittedly few) qjson.h clients.

Later patches will then fix docs, object.h, visitor-impl.h, and
those clients to match.

Done by first patching scripts/qapi*.py by hand to make generated
files do what I want, then by running the following Coccinelle
script to affect the rest of the code base:
 $ spatch --sp-file script `git grep -l '\bvisit_' -- '**/*.[ch]'`
I then had to apply some touchups (Coccinelle insisted on TAB
indentation in visitor.h, and botched the signature of
visit_type_enum() by rewriting 'const char *const strings[]' to
the syntactically invalid 'const char*const[] strings'). The
movement of parameters is sufficient to provoke compiler errors
if any callers were missed.

04e070d217 qapi: Consolidate visitor small integer callbacks
Commit 4e27e819 introduced optional visitor callbacks for all
sorts of int types, but no visitor has supplied any of the
callbacks for sizes less than 64 bits. In other words, the
generic implementation based on using type_[u]int64() followed
by bounds-checking works just fine. In the interest of
simplicity, it's easier to make the visitor callback interface
not have to worry about the other sizes.

Adding some helper functions minimizes the boilerplate required
to correct FIXMEs added earlier with regards to questionable
reuse of errp, particularly now that we can guarantee from a
single file audit that value is unchanged if an error is set.

f755dea79d qapi: Make all visitors supply uint64 callbacks
Our qapi visitor contract supports multiple integer visitors,
but left the type_uint64 visitor as optional (falling back on
type_int64); which in turn can lead to awkward behavior with
numbers larger than INT64_MAX (the user has to be aware of
twos complement, and deal with negatives).

This patch does not address the disparity in handling large
values as negatives. It merely moves the fallback from uint64
to int64 from the visitor core to the visitors, where the issue
can actually be fixed, by implementing the missing type_uint64()
callbacks on top of the respective type_int64() callbacks, and
with a FIXME comment explaining why that's wrong.

With that done, we now have a type_uint64() callback in every
driver, so we can make it mandatory from the core. And although
the type_int64() callback can cover the entire valid range of
type_uint{8,16,32} on valid user input, using type_uint64() to
avoid mixed signedness makes more sense.

4c40314a35 qapi: Prefer type_int64 over type_int in visitors
The qapi builtin type 'int' is basically shorthand for the type
'int64'. In fact, since no visitor was providing the optional
type_int64() callback, visit_type_int64() was just always falling
back to type_int(), cementing the equivalence between the types.

However, some visitors are providing a type_uint64() callback.
For purposes of code consistency, it is nicer if all visitors
use the paired type_int64/type_uint64 names rather than the
mismatched type_int/type_uint64. So this patch just renames
the signed int callbacks in place, dropping the type_int()
callback as redundant, and a later patch will focus on the
unsigned int callbacks.

Add some FIXMEs to questionable reuse of errp in code touched
by the rename, while at it (the reuse works as long as the
callbacks don't modify value when setting an error, but it's not
a good example to set) - a later patch will then fix those.

No change in functionality here, although further cleanups are
in the pipeline.

d7bea75d35 qapi: Avoid use of misnamed DO_UPCAST()
The macro DO_UPCAST() is incorrectly named: it converts from a
parent class to a derived class (which is a downcast). Better,
and more consistent with some of the other qapi visitors, is
to use the container_of() macro through a to_FOO() helper. Names
like 'to_ov()' may be a bit short, but for a static helper it
doesn't hurt too much, and matches existing practice in files
like qmp-input-visitor.c.

Our current definition of container_of() is weaker than
DO_UPCAST(), in that it does not require the derived class to
have Visitor as its first member, but this does not hurt our
usage patterns in qapi visitors.

12c7ec87a7 blockdev: Fix 'change' for slot devices
'change' and related operations did not work when used on guest devices
featuring removable media but no actual tray, because
blk_dev_is_tray_open() always returned false for them and the
blockdev-{insert,remove}-medium commands required it to return true.

Fix this by making blockdev-{insert,remove}-medium work on tray-less
devices. Also, blockdev-{open,close}-tray are now explicitly no-ops when
invoked on such devices, and blk_dev_change_media_cb() is instead
called by blockdev-{insert,remove}-medium (for tray-less devices only).

ac1d887849 crypto: add QCryptoSecret object class for password/key handling
Introduce a new QCryptoSecret object class which will be used
for providing passwords and keys to other objects which need
sensitive credentials.

The new object can provide secret values directly as properties,
or indirectly via a file. The latter includes support for file
descriptor passing syntax on UNIX platforms. Ordinarily passing
secret values directly as properties is insecure, since they
are visible in process listings, or in log files showing the
CLI args / QMP commands. It is possible to use AES-256-CBC to
encrypt the secret values though, in which case all that is
visible is the ciphertext. For ad hoc developer testing though,
it is fine to provide the secrets directly without encryption
so this is not explicitly forbidden.

The anticipated scenario is that libvirtd will create a random
master key per QEMU instance (eg /var/run/libvirt/qemu/$VMNAME.key)
and will use that key to encrypt all passwords it provides to
QEMU via '-object secret,....'. This avoids the need for libvirt
(or other mgmt apps) to worry about file descriptor passing.

It also makes life easier for people who are scripting the
management of QEMU, for whom FD passing is significantly more
complex.

Providing data inline (insecure, only for ad hoc dev testing)

  $QEMU -object secret,id=sec0,data=letmein

Providing data indirectly in raw format

  printf "letmein" > mypasswd.txt
  $QEMU -object secret,id=sec0,file=mypasswd.txt

Providing data indirectly in base64 format

  $QEMU -object secret,id=sec0,file=mykey.b64,format=base64

Providing data with encryption

  $QEMU -object secret,id=master0,file=mykey.b64,format=base64 \
        -object secret,id=sec0,data=[base64 ciphertext],\
	           keyid=master0,iv=[base64 IV],format=base64

Note that 'format' here refers to the format of the ciphertext
data. The decrypted data must always be in raw byte format.

d00341af38 qapi: Fix alternates that accept 'number' but not 'int'
The QMP input visitor allows integral values to be assigned by
promotion to a QTYPE_QFLOAT. However, when parsing an alternate,
we did not take this into account, such that an alternate that
accepts 'number' and some other type, but not 'int', would reject
integral values.

With this patch, we now have the following desirable table:

    alternate has      case selected for
    'int'  'number'    QTYPE_QINT  QTYPE_QFLOAT
      no        no     error       error
      no       yes     'number'    'number'
     yes        no     'int'       error
     yes       yes     'int'       'number'

While it is unlikely that we will ever use 'number' in an
alternate other than in the testsuite, it never hurts to be
more precise in what we allow.

0426d53c65 qapi: Simplify visiting of alternate types
Previously, working with alternates required two lookup arrays
and some indirection: for type Foo, we created Foo_qtypes[]
which maps each qtype to a value of the generated FooKind enum,
then look up that value in FooKind_lookup[] like we do for other
union types.

This has a couple of subtle bugs. First, the generator was
creating a call with a parameter '(int *) &(*obj)->type' where
type is an enum type; this is unsafe if the compiler chooses
to store the enum type in a different size than int, where
assigning through the wrong size pointer can corrupt data or
cause a SIGBUS.

Related bug, not not fixed in this patch: qapi-visit.py's
gen_visit_enum() generates a cast of its enum * argument to
int *. Marked FIXME.

Second, since the values of the FooKind enum start at zero, all
entries of the Foo_qtypes[] array that were not explicitly
initialized will map to the same branch of the union as the
first member of the alternate, rather than triggering a desired
failure in visit_get_next_type(). Fortunately, the bug seldom
bites; the very next thing the input visitor does is try to
parse the incoming JSON with the wrong parser, which normally
fails; the output visitor is not used with a C struct in that
state, and the dealloc visitor has nothing to clean up (so
there is no leak).

However, the second bug IS observable in one case: parsing an
integer causes unusual behavior in an alternate that contains
at least a 'number' member but no 'int' member, because the
'number' parser accepts QTYPE_QINT in addition to the expected
QTYPE_QFLOAT (that is, since 'int' is not a member, the type
QTYPE_QINT accidentally maps to FooKind 0; if this enum value
is the 'number' branch the integer parses successfully, but if
the 'number' branch is not first, some other branch tries to
parse the integer and rejects it). A later patch will worry
about fixing alternates to always parse all inputs that a
non-alternate 'number' would accept, for now this is still
marked FIXME in the updated test-qmp-input-visitor.c, to
merely point out that new undesired behavior of 'ans' matches
the existing undesired behavior of 'asn'.

This patch fixes the default-initialization bug by deleting the
indirection, and modifying get_next_type() to directly assign a
QTypeCode parameter. This in turn fixes the type-casting bug,
as we are no longer casting a pointer to enum to a questionable
size. There is no longer a need to generate an implicit FooKind
enum associated with the alternate type (since the QMP wire
format never uses the stringized counterparts of the C union
member names). Since the updated visit_get_next_type() does not
know which qtypes are expected, the generated visitor is
modified to generate an error statement if an unexpected type is
encountered.

Callers now have to know the QTYPE_* mapping when looking at the
discriminator; but so far, only the testsuite was even using the
C struct of an alternate types. I considered the possibility of
keeping the internal enum FooKind, but initialized differently
than most generated arrays, as in:
  typedef enum FooKind {
      FOO_KIND_A = QTYPE_QDICT,
      FOO_KIND_B = QTYPE_QINT,
  } FooKind;
to create nicer aliases for knowing when to use foo->a or foo->b
when inspecting foo->type; but it turned out to add too much
complexity, especially without a client.

There is a user-visible side effect to this change, but I
consider it to be an improvement. Previously,
the invalid QMP command:
  {"execute":"blockdev-add", "arguments":{"options":
    {"driver":"raw", "id":"a", "file":true}}}
failed with:
  {"error": {"class": "GenericError",
    "desc": "Invalid parameter type for 'file', expected: QDict"}}
(visit_get_next_type() succeeded, and the error comes from the
visit_type_BlockdevOptions() expecting {}; there is no mention of
the fact that a string would also work). Now it fails with:
  {"error": {"class": "GenericError",
    "desc": "Invalid parameter type for 'file', expected: BlockdevRef"}}
(the error when the next type doesn't match any expected types for
the overall alternate).

f22a28b898 qapi: Add alias for ErrorClass
The qapi enum ErrorClass is unusual that it uses 'CamelCase' names,
contrary to our documented convention of preferring 'lower-case'.
However, this enum is entrenched in the API; we cannot change
what strings QMP outputs. Meanwhile, we want to simplify how
c_enum_const() is used to generate enum constants, by moving away
from the heuristics of camel_to_upper() to a more straightforward
c_name(N).upper() - but doing so will rename all of the ErrorClass
constants and cause churn to all client files, where the new names
are aesthetically less pleasing (ERROR_CLASS_DEVICENOTFOUND looks
like we can't make up our minds on whether to break between words).

So as always in computer science, solve the problem by some more
indirection: rename the qapi type to QapiErrorClass, and add a
new enum ErrorClass in error.h whose members are aliases of the
qapi type, but with the spelling expected elsewhere in the tree.
Then, when c_enum_const() changes the munging, we only have to
adjust the one alias spot.

6e0abc251d blockdev: Mark {insert, remove}-medium experimental
While in the long term we want throttling to be its own block filter
BDS, in the short term we want it to be part of the BB instead of a BDS;
even in the long term we may want legacy throttling to be automatically
tied to the BB.

blockdev-insert-medium and blockdev-remove-medium do not retain
throttling information in the BB (deliberately so). Therefore, using
them means tying this information to a BDS, which would break the model
described above. (The same applies to other flags such as
detect_zeroes.) We probably want to move this information to the BB or
its own filter BDS before blockdev-{insert,remove}-medium can be
considered completely stable.

Therefore, mark these functions experimental for the time being.

This patch adds the block_acct_failed() and block_acct_invalid()
functions to allow keeping track of failed and invalid I/O operations.

The number of failed and invalid operations is exposed in
BlockDeviceStats.

We don't keep track of the time spent on invalid operations because
they are cancelled immediately when they are started.

This patch adds the new field 'idle_time_ns' to the BlockDeviceStats
structure, indicating the time that has passed since the previous I/O

It also adds the block_acct_idle_time_ns() call, to ensure that all
references to the clock type used for accounting are in the same
place. This will later allow us to use a different clock for iotests.

43de7e2de0 block: add a 'blockdev-snapshot' QMP command
One of the limitations of the 'blockdev-snapshot-sync' command is that
it does not allow passing BlockdevOptions to the newly created
snapshots, so they are always opened using the default values.

Extending the command to allow passing options is not a practical
solution because there is overlap between those options and some of
the existing parameters of the command.

This patch introduces a new 'blockdev-snapshot' command with a simpler
interface: it just takes two references to existing block devices that
will be used as the source and target for the snapshot.

Since the main difference between the two commands is that one of them
creates and opens the target image, while the other uses an already
opened one, the bulk of the implementation is shared.

f545504420 qapi-introspect: Document lack of sorting
qapi-code-gen.txt already claims that types, commands, and
events share a common namespace; set this in stone by further
documenting that our introspection output will never have
collisions with the same name tied to more than one meta-type.

Our largest QMP enum currently has 125 values, our largest
object type has 27 members, and the mean for each is less than
10. These sizes are small enough that the per-element overhead
of O(log n) binary searching probably outweighs the speed
possible with direct O(n) linear searching (a better algorithm
with more overhead will only beat a leaner naive algorithm only
as you scale to larger input sizes).

Arguably, the overall SchemaInfo array could be sorted by name;
there, we currently have 531 entities, large enough for a binary
search to be faster than linear. However, remember that we have
mutually-recursive types, which means there is no topological
ordering that will allow clients to learn all information about
that type in a single linear pass; thus clients will want to do
random access over the data, and they will probably read the
introspection output into a hashtable for O(1) lookup rather
than O(log n) binary searching, at which point, pre-sorting our
introspection output doesn't help the client.

It doesn't help that sorting can be subjective if you introduce
locales into the mix (I'm not experienced enough with Python
to know for sure, but at least it looks like it defaults to
sorting in the C locale even when run under a different locale).
And while our current introspection output is deterministic
(because we visit entities in a sorted order), we may want
to change that order in the future (such as using OrderedDict
to stick to .json declaration order).

For these reasons, we simply document that clients should not
rely on any particular order of items in introspection output.
And since it is now a documented part of the contract, we have
the freedom to later rearrange output if needed, without
worrying about breaking well-written clients.

39a1815816 qapi: New QMP command query-qmp-schema for QMP introspection
qapi/introspect.json defines the introspection schema. It's designed
for QMP introspection, but should do for similar uses, such as QGA.

The introspection schema does not reflect all the rules and
restrictions that apply to QAPI schemata. A valid QAPI schema has an
introspection value conforming to the introspection schema, but the
converse is not true.

Introspection lowers away a number of schema details, and makes
implicit things explicit:

* The built-in types are declared with their JSON type.

  All integer types are mapped to 'int', because how many bits we use
  internally is an implementation detail. It could be pressed into
  external interface service as very approximate range information,
  but that's a bad idea. If we need range information, we better do
  it properly.

* Implicit type definitions are made explicit, and given
  auto-generated names:

  - Array types, named by appending "List" to the name of their
    element type, like in generated C.

  - The enumeration types implicitly defined by simple union types,
    named by appending "Kind" to the name of their simple union type,
    like in generated C.

  - Types that don't occur in generated C. Their names start with ':'
    so they don't clash with the user's names.

* All type references are by name.

* The struct and union types are generalized into an object type.

* Base types are flattened.

* Commands take a single argument and return a single result.

  Dictionary argument or list result is an implicit type definition.

  The empty object type is used when a command takes no arguments or
  produces no results.

  The argument is always of object type, but the introspection schema
  doesn't reflect that.

  The 'gen': false directive is omitted as implementation detail.

  The 'success-response' directive is omitted as well for now, even
  though it's not an implementation detail, because it's not used by
  QMP.

* Events carry a single data value.

  Implicit type definition and empty object type use, just like for
  commands.

  The value is of object type, but the introspection schema doesn't
  reflect that.

* Types not used by commands or events are omitted.

  Indirect use counts as use.

* Optional members have a default, which can only be null right now

  Instead of a mandatory "optional" flag, we have an optional default.
  No default means mandatory, default null means optional without
  default value. Non-null is available for optional with default
  (possible future extension).

* Clients should *not* look up types by name, because type names are
  not ABI. Look up the command or event you're interested in, then
  follow the references.

  TODO Should we hide the type names to eliminate the temptation?

New generator scripts/qapi-introspect.py computes an introspection
value for its input, and generates a C variable holding it.

It can generate awfully long lines. Marked TODO.

A new test-qmp-input-visitor test case feeds its result for both
tests/qapi-schema/qapi-schema-test.json and qapi-schema.json to a
QmpInputVisitor to verify it actually conforms to the schema.

New QMP command query-qmp-schema takes its return value from that
variable. Its reply is some 85KiBytes for me right now.

If this turns out to be too much, we have a couple of options:

* We can use shorter names in the JSON. Not the QMP style.

* Optionally return the sub-schema for commands and events given as
  arguments.

  Right now qmp_query_schema() sends the string literal computed by
  qmp-introspect.py. To compute sub-schema at run time, we'd have to
  duplicate parts of qapi-introspect.py in C. Unattractive.

* Let clients cache the output of query-qmp-schema.

  It changes only on QEMU upgrades, i.e. rarely. Provide a command
  query-qmp-schema-hash. Clients can have a cache indexed by hash,
  and re-query the schema only when they don't have it cached. Even
  simpler: put the hash in the QMP greeting.

6c2f9a15df qapi: Make output visitor return qnull() instead of NULL
Before commit 1d10b44, it crashed. Since then, it returns NULL, with
a FIXME comment. The FIXME is valid: code that assumes QObject *
can't be null exists. I'm not aware of a way to feed this problematic
return value to code that actually chokes on null in the current code,
but the next few commits will create one, failing "make check".

Commit 481b002 solved a very similar problem by introducing a special
null QObject. Using this special null QObject is clearly the right
way to resolve this FIXME, so do that, and update the test
accordingly.

However, the patch isn't quite right: it messes up the reference
counting. After about SIZE_MAX visits, the reference counter
overflows, failing the assertion in qnull_destroy_obj(). Because
that's many orders of magnitude more visits of nulls than we expect,
we take this patch despite its flaws, to get the QMP introspection
stuff in without further delay. We'll want to fix it for real before
the release.

a090187de1 crypto: introduce new base module for TLS credentials
Introduce a QCryptoTLSCreds class to act as the base class for
storing TLS credentials. This will be later subclassed to provide
handling of anonymous and x509 credential types. The subclasses
will be user creatable objects, so instances can be created &
deleted via 'object-add' and 'object-del' QMP commands respectively,
or via the -object command line arg.

If the credentials cannot be initialized an error will be reported
as a QMP reply, or on stderr respectively.

The idea is to make it possible to represent and manage TLS
credentials independently of the network service that is using
them. This will enable multiple services to use the same set of
credentials and minimize code duplication. A later patch will
convert the current VNC server TLS code over to use this object.

The representation of credentials will be functionally equivalent
to that currently implemented in the VNC server with one exception.
The new code has the ability to (optionally) load a pre-generated
set of diffie-hellman parameters, if the file dh-params.pem exists,
whereas the current VNC server will always generate them on startup.
This is beneficial for admins who wish to avoid the (small) time
sink of generating DH parameters at startup and/or avoid depleting
entropy.

These macros expand into error class enumeration constant, comma,

The error class is always ERROR_CLASS_GENERIC_ERROR since the previous

Clean up as follows:

* Prepend every use of a QERR_ macro by ERROR_CLASS_GENERIC_ERROR, and
  delete it from the QERR_ macro. No change after preprocessing.

* Rewrite error_set(ERROR_CLASS_GENERIC_ERROR, ...) into

76f4afb40f throttle: Add throttle group support
The throttle group support use a cooperative round robin scheduling
algorithm.

The principles of the algorithm are simple:
- Each BDS of the group is used as a token in a circular way.
- The active BDS computes if a wait must be done and arms the right
  timer.
- If a wait must be done the token timer will be armed so the token
  will become the next active BDS.

9abe3bdc45 qapi: add dirty bitmap status
Bitmaps can be in a handful of different states with potentially
more to come as we tool around with migration and persistence patches.

Management applications may need to know why certain bitmaps are
unavailable for various commands, e.g. busy in another operation,
busy being migrated, etc.

Right now, all we offer is BlockDirtyInfo's boolean member 'frozen'.
Instead of adding more booleans, replace it by an enumeration member
'status' with values 'active' and 'frozen'. Then add new value
'disabled'.

Incompatible change. Fine because the changed part hasn't been
released so far.

4752cdbbf3 qapi: Drop inline nested struct in query-version
A future patch will be using a 'name':{dictionary} entry in the
QAPI schema to specify a default value for an optional argument
(see previous commit message for more details why); but existing
use of inline nested structs conflicts with that goal. This patch
fixes one of only two commands relying on nested types, by
breaking the nesting into an explicit type; it means that the
type is now boxed instead of unboxed in C code, but the QMP wire
format is unaffected by this change.

Prefer the safer g_new0() while making the conversion.

895a2a80e0 qapi: Use 'struct' instead of 'type' in schema
Referring to "type" as both a meta-type (built-in, enum, union,
alternate, or struct) and a specific type (the name that the
schema uses for declaring structs) is confusing. Do the bulk of
the conversion to "struct" in qapi schema, with a fairly
mechanical:

for f in `find -name '*.json'; do sed -i "s/'type'/'struct'/"; done

followed by manually filtering out the places where we have a
'type' embedded in 'data'. Then tweak a couple of tests whose
output changes slightly due to longer lines.

I also verified that the generated files for QMP and QGA (such
as qmp-commands.h) are the same before and after, as assurance
that I didn't leave in any accidental member name changes.

9bd2b08f27 block: Add bitmap successors
A bitmap successor is an anonymous BdrvDirtyBitmap that is intended to
be created just prior to a sensitive operation (e.g. Incremental Backup)
that can either succeed or fail, but during the course of which we still
want a bitmap tracking writes.

On creating a successor, we "freeze" the parent bitmap which prevents
its deletion, enabling, anonymization, or creating a bitmap with the
same name.

On success, the parent bitmap can "abdicate" responsibility to the
successor, which will inherit its name. The successor will have been
tracking writes during the course of the backup operation. The parent
will be safely deleted.

On failure, we can "reclaim" the successor from the parent, unifying
them such that the resulting bitmap describes all writes occurring since
the last successful backup, for instance. Reclamation will thaw the
parent, but not explicitly re-enable it.

BdrvDirtyBitmap operations that target a single bitmap are protected
by assertions that the bitmap is not frozen and/or disabled.

BdrvDirtyBitmap operations that target a group of bitmaps, such as
bdrv_{set,reset}_dirty will ignore frozen/disabled drives with a
conditional instead.

Internal functions that enable/disable dirty bitmaps have assertions
added to them to prevent modifying frozen bitmaps.

341ebc2f81 qmp: Add block-dirty-bitmap-add and block-dirty-bitmap-remove
The new command pair is added to manage a user created dirty bitmap. The
dirty bitmap's name is mandatory and must be unique for the same device,
but different devices can have bitmaps with the same names.

The granularity is an optional field. If it is not specified, we will
choose a default granularity based on the cluster size if available,
clamped to between 4K and 64K to mirror how the 'mirror' code was
already choosing granularity. If we do not have cluster size info
available, we choose 64K. This code has been factored out into a helper
shared with block/mirror.

This patch also introduces the 'block_dirty_bitmap_lookup' helper,
which takes a device name and a dirty bitmap name and validates the
lookup, returning NULL and setting errp if there is a problem with
either field. This helper will be re-used in future patches in this
series.

The types added to block-core.json will be re-used in future patches
in this series, see:

e2462113b2 block: add event when disk usage exceeds threshold
Managing applications, like oVirt (http://www.ovirt.org), make extensive
use of thin-provisioned disk images.
To let the guest run smoothly and be not unnecessarily paused, oVirt sets
a disk usage threshold (so called 'high water mark') based on the occupation
of the device, and automatically extends the image once the threshold
is reached or exceeded.

In order to detect the crossing of the threshold, oVirt has no choice but
aggressively polling the QEMU monitor using the query-blockstats command.
This lead to unnecessary system load, and is made even worse under scale:
deployments with hundreds of VMs are no longer rare.

To fix this, this patch adds:
* A new monitor command `block-set-write-threshold', to set a mark for
  a given block device.
* A new event `BLOCK_WRITE_THRESHOLD', to report if a block device
  usage exceeds the threshold.
* A new `write_threshold' field into the `BlockDeviceInfo' structure,
  to report the configured threshold.

This will allow the managing application to use smarter and more
efficient monitoring, greatly reducing the need of polling.

property. --Stefan]

24bf10dac3 Revert "qemu-img info: show nocow info"
This reverts commit 000c4dfff4.

The main reason for reverting this commit before the 2.2 release is that
it adds a QAPI interface that we don't want to keep: The 'nocow' flag
doesn't generally make sense for block nodes, but only for the raw-posix
driver. It should therefore be part of ImageInfoSpecific rather than
ImageInfo.

The commit contains more problems, but unlike the API stability issue
they wouldn't justify reverting it.

cee2dedb85 qapi: add visit_start_union and visit_end_union
In some cases an input visitor might bail out on filling out a
struct for various reasons, such as missing fields when running
in strict mode. In the case of a QAPI Union type, this may lead
to cases where the .kind field which encodes the union type
is uninitialized. Subsequently, other visitors, such as the
dealloc visitor, may use this .kind value as if it were
initialized, leading to assumptions about the union type which
in this case may lead to segfaults. For example, freeing an
integer value.

However, we can generally rely on the fact that the always-present
.data void * field that we generate for these union types will
always be NULL in cases where .kind is uninitialized (at least,
there shouldn't be a reason where we'd do this purposefully).

So pass this information on to Visitor implementation via these
optional start_union/end_union interfaces so this information
can be used to guard against the situation above. We will make
use of this information in a subsequent patch for the dealloc
visitor.

550830f935 block: delete cow block driver
This patch removes support for the cow file format.

Normally we do not break backwards compatibility but in this case there
is no impact and it is the most logical option. Extraordinary claims
require extraordinary evidence so I will show why removing the cow block
driver is the right thing to do.

The cow file format is the disk image format for Usermode Linux, a way
of running a Linux system in userspace. The performance of UML was
never great and it was hacky, but it enjoyed some popularity before
hardware virtualization support became mainstream.

QEMU's block/cow.c is supposed to read this image file format.
Unfortunately the file format was underspecified:

1. Earlier Linux versions used the MAXPATHLEN constant for the backing
   filename field. The value of MAXPATHLEN can change, so Linux
   switched to a 4096 literal but QEMU has a 1024 literal.

2. Padding was not used on the header struct (both in the Linux kernel
   and in QEMU) so the struct layout varied across architectures. In
   particular, i386 and x86_64 were different due to int64_t alignment
   differences. Linux now uses __attribute__((packed)), QEMU does not.

Therefore:

1. QEMU cow images do not conform to the Linux cow image file format.

2. cow images cannot be shared between different host architectures.

This means QEMU cow images are useless and QEMU has not had bug reports
from users actually hitting these issues.

Let's get rid of this thing, it serves no purpose and no one will be
affected.

c7c2ff0c7e block: extend BLOCK_IO_ERROR event with nospace indicator
Management software, such as RHEV's vdsm, want to be able to allocate
disk space on demand. The basic use case is to start a VM with a small
disk and then the disk is enlarged when QEMU hits a ENOSPC condition.

To this end, the management software has to be notified when QEMU
encounters ENOSPC. The solution implemented by this commit is simple:
it extends the BLOCK_IO_ERROR with a 'nospace' key, which is true
when QEMU is stopped due to ENOSPC.

Note that support for querying this event is already present in
query-block by means of the 'io-status' key. Also, the new 'nospace'
BLOCK_IO_ERROR field shares the same semantics with 'io-status',
which basically means that werror= has to be set to either
'stop' or 'enospc' to enable 'nospace'.

Finally, this commit also updates the 'io-status' key doc in the
schema with a list of supported device models.

13d8cc515d block: add backing-file option to block-stream
On some image chains, QEMU may not always be able to resolve the
filenames properly, when updating the backing file of an image
after a block job.

For instance, certain relative pathnames may fail, or drives may
have been specified originally by file descriptor (e.g. /dev/fd/???),
or a relative protocol pathname may have been used.

In these instances, QEMU may lack the information to be able to make
the correct choice, but the user or management layer most likely does
have that knowledge.

With this extension to the block-stream api, the user is able to change
the backing file of the active layer as part of the block-stream
operation.

This allows the change to be 'safe', in the sense that if the attempt
to write the active image metadata fails, then the block-stream
operation returns failure, without disrupting the guest.

If a backing file string is not specified in the command, the backing
file string to use is determined in the same manner as it was
previously.

54e2690090 block: extend block-commit to accept a string for the backing file
On some image chains, QEMU may not always be able to resolve the
filenames properly, when updating the backing file of an image
after a block commit.

With this extension to the block-commit api, the user is able to change
the backing file of the overlay image as part of the block-commit
operation.

This allows the change to be 'safe', in the sense that if the attempt
to write the overlay image metadata fails, then the block-commit
operation returns failure, without disrupting the guest.

If the commit top is the active layer, then specifying the backing
file string will be treated as an error (there is no overlay image
to modify in that case).

If a backing file string is not specified in the command, the backing
file string to use is determined in the same manner as it was
previously.

fa40e65622 block: add QAPI command to allow live backing file change
This allows a user to make a live change to the backing file recorded in
an open image.

The image file to modify can be specified 2 ways:

1) image filename
2) image node-name

Note: this does not cause the backing file itself to be reopened; it
merely changes the backing filename in the image file structure, and
in internal BDS structures.

It is the responsibility of the user to pass a filename string that
can be resolved when the image chain is reopened, and the filename
string is not validated.

A good analogy for this command is that it is a live version of
'qemu-img rebase -u', with respect to changing the backing file string.

[Jeff is offline so I respun this patch in his absence. Dropped image
filename since using node-name is preferred and this is a new command.
No need to introduce the limitations of finding images by filename.

their argument to error_set(). Because error_set() asserts no error
has been set, this effectively means they must not be called with an
error set.

The qapi-generated code uses the error API differently:

    // *errp was initialized to NULL somewhere up the call chain
    frob(..., errp);
    gnat(..., errp);

Errors accumulate in *errp: first error wins, subsequent errors get
dropped. To make this work, the second function does nothing when
called with an error set. Requires non-null errp, or else the second
function can't see the first one fail.

This usage has also bled into visitor tests, and two device model
object property getters rtc_get_date() and balloon_stats_get_all().

With the "accumulate" technique, you need fewer error checks in
callers, and buy that with an error check in every callee. Can be
nice.

However, mixing the two techniques is confusing. You can't use the
"accumulate" technique with functions designed for the "check
separately" technique. You can use the "check separately" technique
with functions designed for the "accumulate" technique, but then
error_set() can't catch you setting an error more than once.

Standardize on the "check separately" technique for now, because it's
overwhelmingly prevalent.
