2026-11-06 17:03:55 -10:00 | 2 commits to main since this release📅 Originally published on GitHub: Wed, 04 Nov 2026 15:48:09 GMT
🏷️ Git tag created: Wed, 04 Nov 2026 15:38:58 GMTPre-release: a beta for testing, expect rough edges.
Native renderer: draws from the game's own objects
- Draws now come from the game's own graphics objects instead of being read back from its command buffers: each draw's bindings, render state, render targets, and vertex, index and resource buffers. This is the next big step toward Lantern's own renderer.
- It's on by default in this beta. If something draws wrong or the game crashes, turn off Engine › Native renderer: draws and tell us. Safe mode turns it off too.
- In our test runs, about 7.8 million draws matched the old path exactly, with 0 differences. 60% of buffer bindings now go straight through Lantern, and the slow buffer path is used half as often.
- Not a frame rate boost yet. This step moves the work to the native path, and the speed gains come in the next steps.
Lighting fixes
- Lamp fog no longer pops in and out while the camera moves in areas with lots of lamps, like the Forbidden Woods bridge. Lamps are remembered and fade in and out smoothly. Engine › Graphics › "Steady lamp fog" turns it off. By @rhkim1292 (#90)
- Volumetric sunlight no longer flickers to another colour. The fog follows the area's own light and changes colour smoothly. Places that used to look steadily white may now look blue, which is the fix working. Engine › Graphics › "Steady sunlight color" turns it off. By @rhkim1292 (#91)
Seamless co-op
- A guest now gets the map's treasure and chests in the host's world, with their own pickups.
- A guest gets their full enemy drops.
- NPCs no longer turn into ghosts for a guest.
- NPCs who talk through windows talk to a guest from the start and hand over their key items.
Memory
- Fixed a video memory leak: reduced-size copies of images were kept after the image was gone. This mostly helps cards with 8 GB or less.
Launcher
- Saves: each hunter now has its own tile with level, bosses, time played and last save, newest first.
- Windows 11: hover the maximize button for the snap layouts.
- Settings › Appearance › Background › Windows Mica: a see-through window tinted by your theme colour (Windows 11).
- The launcher asks once whether to use the settings this beta was tested with. Your own are saved, and Settings › Beta tested settings brings them back.
Linux
- Ultrawide screens: the UI is centred and the menu movies are widened, as on Windows. By @Ndmjohansen (#92)

Thank you @rhkim1292 and @Ndmjohansen!
Not tested yet
- Native draws were played on an RTX 5060 on Windows only. AMD, Intel, older NVIDIA cards and Linux haven't tried them. The last two native changes (the loading-stall fix and turning it on by default) haven't been played yet.
- The seamless co-op fixes haven't been played with two players yet.
- The memory leak fix hasn't been played yet.
- The lighting fixes were tested by their author on an RTX 3080 on Windows, not on AMD or Linux.
- This build wasn't test-booted before release, and the Vulkan validation run on a software driver wasn't done for this beta.
