In the future Windows will enable Control-flow Enforcement Technology (CET aka shadow stacks). To protect the path where the context is updated during exception handling, the binary is required to enumerate valid unwind entrypoints in a dedicated section which is validated when the context is being set during exception handling.
This change allows llvm to generate the section that contains the appropriate symbol references in the form expected by the msvc linker.
This feature is enabled through a new module flag, ehcontguard, which was modelled on the cfguard flag.
The change includes a test that when the module flag is enabled the section is correctly generated.
The set of exception continuation information includes returns from exceptional control flow (catchret in llvm).
In order to collect catchret we:
1) Includes an additional flag on machine basic blocks to indicate that the given block is the target of a catchret operation,
2) Introduces a new machine function pass to insert and collect symbols at the start of each block, and
3) Combines these targets with the other EHCont targets that were already being collected.
Change originally authored by Daniel Frampton <dframpto@microsoft.com>

As mentioned post-commit in D85749, the 'substituteDebugValuesForInst'
method added in c521e44defb5 would be better off with a limit on the
number of operands to substitute. This handles the common case of
"substitute the first operand between these two differing instructions",
or possibly up to N first operands.
Add a table recording "substitutions" between pairs of <instruction,
operand> numbers, from old pairs to new pairs. Post-isel optimizations are
able to record the outcome of an optimization in this way. For example, if
there were a divide instruction that generated the quotient and remainder,
and it were replaced by one that only generated the quotient:
$rax, $rcx = DIV-AND-REMAINDER $rdx, $rsi, debug-instr-num 1
DBG_INSTR_REF 1, 0
DBG_INSTR_REF 1, 1
Became:
$rax = DIV $rdx, $rsi, debug-instr-num 2
DBG_INSTR_REF 1, 0
DBG_INSTR_REF 1, 1
We could enter a substitution from <1, 0> to <2, 0>, and no substitution
for <1, 1> as it's no longer generated.
This approach means that if an instruction or value is deleted once we've
left SSA form, all variables that used the value implicitly become
"optimized out", something that isn't true of the current DBG_VALUE
approach.

This patch defines the MIR format for debug instruction references: it's an
integer trailing an instruction, marked out by "debug-instr-number", much
like how "debug-location" identifies the DebugLoc metadata of an
instruction. The instruction number is stored directly in a MachineInstr.
Actually referring to an instruction comes in a later patch, but is done
using one of these instruction numbers.
I've added a round-trip test and two verifier checks: that we don't label
meta-instructions as generating values, and that there are no duplicates.

This patch introduces the new .bb_addr_map section feature which allows us to emit the bits needed for mapping binary profiles to basic blocks into a separate section.
The format of the emitted data is represented as follows. It includes a header for every function:
| Address of the function | -> 8 bytes (pointer size)
| Number of basic blocks in this function (>0) | -> ULEB128
The header is followed by a BB record for every basic block. These records are ordered in the same order as MachineBasicBlocks are placed in the function. Each BB Info is structured as follows:
| Offset of the basic block relative to function begin | -> ULEB128
| Binary size of the basic block | -> ULEB128
| BB metadata | -> ULEB128 [ MBB.isReturn() OR MBB.hasTailCall() << 1 OR MBB.isEHPad() << 2 ]
The new feature will replace the existing "BB labels" functionality with -basic-block-sections=labels.
The .bb_addr_map section scrubs the specially-encoded BB symbols from the binary and makes it friendly to profilers and debuggers.
Furthermore, the new feature reduces the binary size overhead from 70% bloat to only 12%.

We introduce a codegen optimization pass which splits functions into hot and cold
parts. This pass leverages the basic block sections feature recently
introduced in LLVM from the Propeller project. The pass targets
functions with profile coverage, identifies cold blocks and moves them
to a separate section. The linker groups all cold blocks across
functions together, decreasing fragmentation and improving icache and
itlb utilization.
We evaluated the Machine Function Splitter pass on clang bootstrap and
SPECInt 2017.
For clang bootstrap we observe a mean 2.33% runtime improvement with a
~32% reduction in itlb and stlb misses. Additionally, L1 icache misses
reduced by 9.5% while L2 instruction misses reduced by 20%.
For SPECInt we report the change in IntRate the C/C++

working for scalable vectors too when the extract subvector index
is a multiple of the minimum number of elements. I have added a
new variant of the function:
MachineFunction::getMachineMemOperand

Summary:
Currently, MachineVerifier will attempt to verify that tied operands
satisfy register constraints as soon as the function is no longer in
SSA form. However, PHIElimination will take the function out of SSA
form while TwoAddressInstructionPass will actually rewrite tied operands
to match the constraints. PHIElimination runs first in the pipeline.
Therefore, whenever the MachineVerifier is run after PHIElimination,
it will encounter verification errors on any tied operands.
This patch adds a function property called TiedOpsRewritten that will be
set by TwoAddressInstructionPass and will control when the verifier checks
tied operands.

While investigating some non determinism (CSE doesn't produce wrong
code, it just doesn't CSE some times) in GISel CSE on an out of tree
target, I realized that the core issue was that there were lots of code
that mutates (setReg, setRegClass etc), but doesn't notify observers
(CSE in this case but this could be any other observer). In order to
make the Observer be available in various parts of code and to avoid
having to thread it through various API, the MachineFunction now has the
observer as field. This allows it to be easily used in helper functions
such as constrainOperandRegClass.
Also added some invariant verification method in CSEInfo which can
catch these issues (when CSE is enabled).
Add the isCandidateForCallSiteEntry predicate to MachineInstr to
determine whether a DWARF call site entry should be created for an

meaningful.

Cleanup handling of the denormal-fp-math attribute. Consolidate places
checking the allowed names in one place.
This is in preparation for introducing FP type specific variants of
the denormal-fp-mode attribute. AMDGPU will switch to using this in
place of the current hacky use of subtarget features for the denormal
mode.
Introduce a new header for dealing with FP modes. The constrained
intrinsic classes define related enums that should also be moved into
this header for uses in other contexts.
The verifier could use a check to make sure the denorm-fp-mode
attribute is sane, but there currently isn't one.
Currently, DAGCombiner incorrectly asssumes non-IEEE behavior by
default in the one current user. Clang must be taught to start
emitting this attribute by default to avoid regressions when this is
switched to assume ieee behavior if the attribute isn't present.
This method is private and only called from this file and doesn't need
to be inline. Saves a TargetMachine.h include in MachineFunction.h, a
popular header. The include was introduced in 98603a8153086 despite the
forward decl of LLVMTargetMachine.
This adds a flag to LLVM and clang to always generate a .debug_frame
section, even if other debug information is not being generated. In
situations where .eh_frame would normally be emitted, both .debug_frame
and .eh_frame will be used.

Fixes some things from original commit at https://reviews.llvm.org/D69136. The main
change is that the heap alloc marker is always stored as ExtraInfo in the machine
instruction instead of in the PointerSumType because it cannot hold more than
4 pointer types.
Add instruction marker to MachineInstr ExtraInfo. This does almost the
same thing as Pre/PostInstrSymbols, except that it doesn't create a label until
printing instructions. This allows for labels to be put around instructions that
are deleted/duplicated somewhere.

convention for the supported targets. The dispatch mechanism adds the target as
an operand bundle, which is processed by SelectionDAG. Another pass

required by /guard:cf. This feature is enabled using the `cfguard` CC1 option.

Previously no client of ilist traits has needed to know about transfers
of nodes within the same list, so as an optimization, ilist doesn't call
transferNodesFromList in that case. However, now there are clients that
want to use ilist traits to cache instruction ordering information to
optimize dominance queries of instructions in the same basic block.
This change updates the existing ilist traits users to detect in-list
transfers and do nothing in that case.
After this change, we can start caching instruction ordering information
in LLVM IR data structures. There are two main ways to do that:
- by putting an order integer into the Instruction class
- by maintaining order integers in a hash table on BasicBlock
I plan to implement and measure both, but I wanted to commit this change
first to enable other out of tree ilist clients to implement this
optimization as well.
