8d92ce5498 [LoopVectorize] Don't unconditionally print vectorization diagnostics
when compiling with LTO.

r244523 a new class DiagnosticInfoOptimizationRemarkAnalysisAliasing for
optimization analysis remarks related to pointer aliasing without
guarding it in isDiagnosticEnabled in LLVMContext.cpp. This caused the
diagnostic message to be printed unconditionally when compiling with
LTO.

This commit cleans up isDiagnosticEnabled and makes sure all the
vectorization optimization remarks are guarded.

c19c96e06f [LTO] Restore original linkage of externals prior to splitting
Summary:
This is a companion patch for http://reviews.llvm.org/D16124.

Internalized symbols increase the size of strongly-connected components in
SCC-based module splitting and thus reduce the amount of parallelism. This
patch records the original linkage of non-local symbols prior to
internalization and then restores it just before splitting/CodeGen. This is
also useful for cases where the linker requires symbols to remain external, for
instance, so they can be placed according to linker script rules.

It's currently under its own flag (-restore-globals) but should eventually
share a common flag with D16124.

2fb2eb1333 Don't try to check all uses if lazy loading.
This means that LTO_SYMBOL_SCOPE_DEFAULT_CAN_BE_HIDDEN will not be set
in a few cases.

This should have no impact in ld64 since it doesn't use lazy loading
when merging modules and that is when it checks
LTO_SYMBOL_SCOPE_DEFAULT_CAN_BE_HIDDEN.

a478a7d3d6 Add InaccessibleMemOnly and inaccessibleMemOrArgMemOnly attributes
Summary:
This patch introduces two new function attributes

InaccessibleMemOnly: This attribute indicates that the function may only access memory that is not accessible by the program/IR being compiled. This is a weaker form of ReadNone.
inaccessibleMemOrArgMemOnly: This attribute indicates that the function may only access memory that is either not accessible by the program/IR being compiled, or is pointed to by its pointer arguments. This is a weaker form of ArgMemOnly

This introduces two new options:
- "llvm-lto -save-merged-module -o outfile" dumps the LTO Module to

- "llvm-lto -filetype=asm -o outfile" makes llvm-lto emit assembly instead of

Both are intended for use in lit tests.

c13f4daa7c Add a libLTO diagnostic handler that supports lto_get_error_message API
This is a follow-up from the previous discussion on the thread:
http://lists.llvm.org/pipermail/llvm-commits/Week-of-Mon-20151019/307763.html

The LibLTO lto_get_error_message() API reads error messages from a std::string
sLastErrorString. Instead of passing this string around as an argument, this
patch creates a diagnostic handler and then sends this handler to the
constructor of LTOCodeGenerator.

fe32b980b3 Make the default triple optional by allowing an empty string
When building LLVM as a (potentially dynamic) library that can be linked against
by multiple compilers, the default triple is not really meaningful.
We allow to explicitely set it to an empty string when configuring LLVM.
In this case, said "target independent" tests in the test suite that are using
the default triple are disabled by matching the newly available feature
"default_triple".

c2011f0a8c LTO: Disable extra verify runs in release builds
The verifier currently runs three times in LTO: (1) after parsing, (2)
at the beginning of the optimization pipeline, and (3) at the end of it.

The first run is important, since we're not sure where the bitcode comes
from and it's nice to validate it, but in release builds the extra runs
aren't appropriate.

This commit:
  - Allows these runs to be disabled in LTOCodeGenerator.
  - Adds command-line options to llvm-lto.
  - Adds command-line options to libLTO.dylib, and disables the verifier
    by default in release builds (based on NDEBUG).

This shaves about 3.5% off the runtime of ld64 when linking
verify-uselistorder with -flto -g.

b346721555 CodeGen: Introduce splitCodeGen and teach LTOCodeGenerator to use it.
llvm::splitCodeGen is a function that implements the core of parallel LTO
code generation. It uses llvm::SplitModule to split the module into linkable
partitions and spawning one code generation thread per partition. The function
produces multiple object files which can be linked in the usual way.

This has been threaded through to LTOCodeGenerator (and llvm-lto for testing
purposes). Separate patches will add parallel LTO support to the gold plugin
and lld.

c8b1f095a3 Move the personality function from LandingPadInst to Function
The personality routine currently lives in the LandingPadInst.

This isn't desirable because:
- All LandingPadInsts in the same function must have the same
  personality routine. This means that each LandingPadInst beyond the
  first has an operand which produces no additional information.

- There is ongoing work to introduce EH IR constructs other than
  LandingPadInst. Moving the personality routine off of any one
  particular Instruction and onto the parent function seems a lot better
  than have N different places a personality function can sneak onto an
  exceptional function.

dfadb4e9ee [opaque pointer type] Add textual IR support for explicit type parameter to the call instruction
See r230786 and r230794 for similar changes to gep and load
respectively.

Call is a bit different because it often doesn't have a single explicit
type - usually the type is deduced from the arguments, and just the
return type is explicit. In those cases there's no need to change the
IR.

When that's not the case, the IR usually contains the pointer type of
the first operand - but since typed pointers are going away, that
representation is insufficient so I'm just stripping the "pointerness"
of the explicit type away.

This does make the IR a bit weird - it /sort of/ reads like the type of
the first operand: "call void () %x(" but %x is actually of type "void
()*" and will eventually be just of type "ptr". But this seems not too
bad and I don't think it would benefit from repeating the type
("void (), void () * %x(" and then eventually "void (), ptr %x(") as has
been done with gep and load.

This also has a side benefit: since the explicit type is no longer a
pointer, there's no ambiguity between an explicit type and a function
that returns a function pointer. Previously this case needed an explicit
type (eg: a function returning a void() function was written as
"call void () () * @x(" rather than "call void () * @x(" because of the
ambiguity between a function returning a pointer to a void() function
and a function returning void).

No ambiguity means even function pointer return types can just be
written alone, without writing the whole function's type.

This leaves /only/ the varargs case where the explicit type is required.

Given the special type syntax in call instructions, the regex-fu used
for migration was a bit more involved in its own unique way (as every
one of these is) so here it is. Use it in conjunction with the apply.sh
script and associated find/xargs commands I've provided in rr230786 to
migrate your out of tree tests. Do let me know if any of this doesn't
cover your cases & we can iterate on a more general script/regexes to
help others with out of tree tests.

About 9 test cases couldn't be automatically migrated - half of those
were functions returning function pointers, where I just had to manually
delete the function argument types now that we didn't need an explicit
function type there. The other half were typedefs of function types used
in calls - just had to manually drop the * from those.

0d99339102 [opaque pointer type] Add textual IR support for explicit type parameter to getelementptr instruction
One of several parallel first steps to remove the target type of pointers,
replacing them with a single opaque pointer type.

This adds an explicit type parameter to the gep instruction so that when the
first parameter becomes an opaque pointer type, the type to gep through is
still available to the instructions.

* This doesn't modify gep operators, only instructions (operators will be
  handled separately)

* Textual IR changes only. Bitcode (including upgrade) and changing the
  in-memory representation will be in separate changes.

* geps of vectors are transformed as:
    getelementptr <4 x float*> %x, ...
  ->getelementptr float, <4 x float*> %x, ...
  Then, once the opaque pointer type is introduced, this will ultimately look
  like:
    getelementptr float, <4 x ptr> %x
  with the unambiguous interpretation that it is a vector of pointers to float.

* address spaces remain on the pointer, not the type:
    getelementptr float addrspace(1)* %x
  ->getelementptr float, float addrspace(1)* %x
  Then, eventually:
    getelementptr float, ptr addrspace(1) %x

Importantly, the massive amount of test case churn has been automated by
same crappy python code. I had to manually update a few test cases that
wouldn't fit the script's model (r228970,r229196,r229197,r229198). The
python script just massages stdin and writes the result to stdout, I
then wrapped that in a shell script to handle replacing files, then
using the usual find+xargs to migrate all the files.

update.py:
import fileinput
import sys
import re

ibrep = re.compile(r"(^.*?[^%\w]getelementptr inbounds )(((?:<\d* x )?)(.*?)(| addrspace\(\d\)) *\*(|>)(?:$| *(?:%|@|null|undef|blockaddress|getelementptr|addrspacecast|bitcast|inttoptr|\[\[[a-zA-Z]|\{\{).*$))")
normrep = re.compile(       r"(^.*?[^%\w]getelementptr )(((?:<\d* x )?)(.*?)(| addrspace\(\d\)) *\*(|>)(?:$| *(?:%|@|null|undef|blockaddress|getelementptr|addrspacecast|bitcast|inttoptr|\[\[[a-zA-Z]|\{\{).*$))")

def conv(match, line):
  if not match:
    return line

    line += match.groups()[2]

  if line.find("getelementptr ") == line.find("getelementptr inbounds"):
    if line.find("getelementptr inbounds") != line.find("getelementptr inbounds ("):
      line = conv(re.match(ibrep, line), line)
  elif line.find("getelementptr ") != line.find("getelementptr ("):
    line = conv(re.match(normrep, line), line)
  sys.stdout.write(line)

apply.sh:
for name in "$@"
do
  python3 `dirname "$0"`/update.py < "$name" > "$name.tmp" && mv "$name.tmp" "$name"
  rm -f "$name.tmp"
done

The actual commands:
From llvm/src:
find test/ -name *.ll | xargs ./apply.sh
From llvm/src/tools/clang:
find test/ -name *.mm -o -name *.m -o -name *.cpp -o -name *.c | xargs -I '{}' ../../apply.sh "{}"
From llvm/src/tools/polly:
find test/ -name *.ll | xargs ./apply.sh

After that, check-all (with llvm, clang, clang-tools-extra, lld,
compiler-rt, and polly all checked out).

The extra 'rm' in the apply.sh script is due to a few files in clang's test
suite using interesting unicode stuff that my python script was throwing
exceptions on. None of those files needed to be migrated, so it seemed
sufficient to ignore those cases.

3ca4721c27 Use the DiagnosticHandler to print diagnostics when reading bitcode.
The bitcode reading interface used std::error_code to report an error to the
callers and it is the callers job to print diagnostics.

This is not ideal for error handling or diagnostic reporting:

* For error handling, all that the callers care about is 3 possibilities:
  * It worked
  * The bitcode file is corrupted/invalid.
  * The file is not bitcode at all.

* For diagnostic, it is user friendly to include far more information
  about the invalid case so the user can find out what is wrong with the
  bitcode file. This comes up, for example, when a developer introduces a
  bug while extending the format.

The compromise we had was to have a lot of error codes.

With this patch we use the DiagnosticHandler to communicate with the
human and std::error_code to communicate with the caller.

This allows us to have far fewer error codes and adds the infrastructure to
print better diagnostics. This is so because the diagnostics are printed when
he issue is found. The code that detected the problem in alive in the stack and
can pass down as much context as needed. As an example the patch updates
test/Bitcode/invalid.ll.

Using a DiagnosticHandler also moves the fatal/non-fatal error decision to the
caller. A simple one like llvm-dis can just use fatal errors. The gold plugin
needs a bit more complex treatment because of being passed non-bitcode files. An
hypothetical interactive tool would make all bitcode errors non-fatal.

f8bc1a9968 Add Forward Control-Flow Integrity.
This commit adds a new pass that can inject checks before indirect calls to
make sure that these calls target known locations. It supports three types of
checks and, at compile time, it can take the name of a custom function to call
when an indirect call check fails. The default failure function ignores the
error and continues.

This pass incidentally moves the function JumpInstrTables::transformType from
private to public and makes it static (with a new argument that specifies the
table type to use); this is so that the CFI code can transform function types
at call sites to determine which jump-instruction table to use for the check at
that site.

Also, this removes support for jumptables in ARM, pending further performance
analysis and discussion.

However, the diagnostic handler exposed in the LTO API receives only the
severity and message. It doesn't have the information to filter by pass
name. For LTO, disabled remarks should be filtered by the producer.

I've changed `LLVMContext::setDiagnosticHandler()` to take a `bool`
argument indicating whether to respect the built-in filters. This
defaults to `false`, so other consumers don't have a behaviour change,
but `LTOCodeGenerator::setDiagnosticHandler()` sets it to `true`.

To make this behaviour testable, I added a `-use-diagnostic-handler`
command-line option to `llvm-lto`.

This fixes PR21108.

3d7ffbad08 LTO: introduce object file-based on-disk module format.
This format is simply a regular object file with the bitcode stored in a
section named ".llvmbc", plus any number of other (non-allocated) sections.

One immediate use case for this is to accommodate compilation processes
which expect the object file to contain metadata in non-allocated sections,
such as the ".go_export" section used by some Go compilers [1], although I
imagine that in the future we could consider compiling parts of the module
(such as large non-inlinable functions) directly into the object file to
improve LTO efficiency.

c74b2b0974 IR: Don't allow non-default visibility on local linkage
Visibilities of `hidden` and `protected` are meaningless for symbols
with local linkage.

  - Change the assembler to reject non-default visibility on symbols
    with local linkage.

  - Change the bitcode reader to auto-upgrade `hidden` and `protected`
    to `default` when the linkage is local.

  - Update LangRef.

a8ef44c3ed Add an -mattr option to the gold plugin to support subtarget features in LTO
This adds support for an -mattr option to the gold plugin and to llvm-lto. This
allows the caller to specify details of the subtarget architecture, like +aes,
or +ssse3 on x86. Note that this requires a change to the include/llvm-c/lto.h
interface: it adds a function lto_codegen_set_attr and it increments the
version of the interface.

deee9e4afd This patch fixes LTO's RecordStreamer so that it records symbols in the MCExpr
part of an asm .symver directive as being used. This prevents referenced
functions from being internalized and deleted.

Without the patch to LTOModule.cpp, the test case will produce the error:

LLVM ERROR: A @@ version cannot be undefined.

2635636165 Module: Don't rename in getOrInsertFunction()
During LTO, user-supplied definitions of C library functions often
exist. -instcombine uses Module::getOrInsertFunction() to get a handle
on library functions (e.g., @puts, when optimizing @printf).

Previously, Module::getOrInsertFunction() would rename any matching
functions with local linkage, and create a new declaration. In LTO,
this is the opposite of desired behaviour, as it skips by the
user-supplied version of the library function and creates a new
undefined reference which the linker often cannot resolve.

After some discussing with Rafael on the list, it looks like it's
undesired behaviour. If a consumer actually *needs* this behaviour, we
should add new API with a more explicit name.

I added two testcases: one specifically for the -instcombine behaviour
and one for the LTO flow.
