953702b8e6 Recommit r80858 again (which has been backed out in r80871). 
This time I did a self-hosted bootstrap on Linux x86-64,
with no problems. Let's see how darwin 64-bit self-hosting
goes. At the first sign of failure I'll back this out.

Maybe the valgrind bots give me a hint of what may be wrong
(it at all).

84ef0ef3b9 Extend MemoryBuffer::getFile() to take an optional "stat" structure 
pointer. If given, the structure will be set with the stat information from
the file actually read.

4995bb0450 Start using DIFile. See updated SourceLevelDebugging.html for more information. 
This patch updates LLVMDebugVersion to 8.
Debug info descriptors encoded using LLVMDebugVersion 7 is supported.

Corresponding llvmgcc and clang FE commits are required.

and is too old to really care about the performance of the generated

ca05b607b7 Refer to -help instead of --help since this is what tools themselves say. 
Also, have tools output -help-hidden rather than refer to --help-hidden,
for consistency, and likewise adjust documentation.  This doesn't change
every mention of --help, only those which seemed clearly safe.

428b385575 Add a new pass to do llvm.objsize lowering using SCEV. 
Initial skeleton and SCEVUnknown lowering implemented,
the rest should come relatively quickly.  Move testcase
to new directory.

Move pass to right before SimplifyLibCalls - which is
moved down a bit so we can take advantage of a few opts.

4d97e42ba6 enhance bits_storage to work with enums by using a c-style 
cast instead of reinterpret_cast, fixing PR6243.  Apparently
reinterpret_cast and I aren't getting along today.

da4372a3c2 use a c-style cast instead of reinterpret-cast, as sometimes the 
cast needs to adjust for a vtable pointer when going from base to
derived type (when the base doesn't have a vtable but the
derived type does).

that loads its contents lazily from bitcode.  I think these are the

fb10587e50 Kill ModuleProvider and ghost linkage by inverting the relationship between 
Modules and ModuleProviders. Because the "ModuleProvider" simply materializes
GlobalValues now, and doesn't provide modules, it's renamed to
"GVMaterializer". Code that used to need a ModuleProvider to materialize
Functions can now materialize the Functions directly. Functions no longer use a
magic linkage to record that they're materializable; they simply ask the
GVMaterializer.

Because the C ABI must never change, we can't remove LLVMModuleProviderRef or
the functions that refer to it. Instead, because Module now exposes the same
functionality ModuleProvider used to, we store a Module* in any
LLVMModuleProviderRef and translate in the wrapper methods.  The bindings to
other languages still use the ModuleProvider concept.  It would probably be
worth some time to update them to follow the C++ more closely, but I don't
intend to do it.

91fafbd4e8 change the canonical form of "cond ? -1 : 0" to be 
"sext cond" instead of a select.  This simplifies some instcombine
code, matches the policy for zext (cond ? 1 : 0 -> zext), and allows
us to generate better code for a testcase on ppc.
