Matthias Braun 79519fecc3 VirtRegMap: Replace some identity copies with KILL instructions.
An identity COPY like this:
   %AL = COPY %AL, %EAX<imp-def>
has no semantic effect, but encodes liveness information: Further users
of %EAX only depend on this instruction even though it does not define
the full register.

Replace the COPY with a KILL instruction in those cases to maintain this
liveness information. (This reverts a small part of r238588 but this
time adds a comment explaining why a KILL instruction is useful).

Michael Kuperstein 664a3a9314 Recommit r274692 - [X86] Transform setcc + movzbl into xorl + setcc
xorl + setcc is generally the preferred sequence due to the partial register
stall setcc + movzbl suffers from. As a bonus, it also encodes one byte smaller.
This fixes PR28146.

The original commit tried inserting an 8bit-subreg into a GR32 (not GR32_ABCD)
which was not appreciated by fast regalloc on 32-bit.

Sanjay Patel 2f183e0a89 [x86, BMI] add TLI hook for 'andn' and use it to simplify comparisons
For the sake of minimalism, this patch is x86 only, but I think that at least
PPC, ARM, AArch64, and Sparc probably want to do this too.

We might want to generalize the hook and pattern recognition for a target like
PPC that has a full assortment of negated logic ops (orc, nand).

Note that http://reviews.llvm.org/D18842 will cause this transform to trigger
more often.

Craig Topper b1ff87ec86 [X86] Don't use GR64 register 'and with immediate' instructions if the immediate is zero in the upper 33-bits or upper 57-bits. Use GR32 instructions instead.
Previously the patterns didn't have high enough priority and we would only use the GR32 form if the only the upper 32 or 56 bits were zero.

Chandler Carruth 7782102c70 Use standard promotion for i8 CTTZ nodes and i8 CTLZ nodes when the
LZCNT instructions are available. Force promotion to i32 to get
a smaller encoding since the fix-ups necessary are just as complex for
either promoted type

We can't do standard promotion for CTLZ when lowering through BSR
because it results in poor code surrounding the 'xor' at the end of this
instruction. Essentially, if we promote the entire CTLZ node to i32, we
end up doing the xor on a 32-bit CTLZ implementation, and then
subtracting appropriately to get back to an i8 value. Instead, our
custom logic just uses the knowledge of the incoming size to compute
a perfect xor. I'd love to know of a way to fix this, but so far I'm
drawing a blank. I suspect the legalizer could be more clever and/or it
could collude with the DAG combiner, but how... ;]

Chandler Carruth d873a4b89b Expand more when we have a nice 'tzcnt' instruction, to avoid generating
'bsf' instructions here.

This one is actually debatable to my eyes. It's not clear that any chip
implementing 'tzcnt' would have a slow 'bsf' for any reason, and unless
EFLAGS or a zero input matters, 'tzcnt' is just a longer encoding.
Still, this restores the old behavior with 'tzcnt' enabled for now.

Chandler Carruth ddbc274169 Manually upgrade the test suite to specify the flag to cttz and ctlz.
I followed three heuristics for deciding whether to set 'true' or
'false':

- Everything target independent got 'true' as that is the expected
common output of the GCC builtins.
- If the target arch only has one way of implementing this operation,
set the flag in the way that exercises the most of codegen. For most
architectures this is also the likely path from a GCC builtin, with
'true' being set. It will (eventually) require lowering away that
difference, and then lowering to the architecture's operation.
- Otherwise, set the flag differently dependending on which target
  operation should be tested.

Let me know if anyone has any issue with this pattern or would like
specific tests of another form. This should allow the x86 codegen to
just iteratively improve as I teach the backend how to differentiate
between the two forms, and everything else should remain exactly the
same.
