Gemini 2.5 Pro freaked out on me when I asked it to make an edit #1522

I've been using opencode v0.5.28 via ubuntu 24.04 (WSL2) the past couple of days. Today, I noticed GPT-5 was having a difficult time actually applying edits. So I switched to Gemini 2.5 Pro. I could see it was looping through a file over and over and couldn't quite bring itself to make an edit. I know there were a few lint warnings, I thought maybe it was being a perfectionist. That's when I told it to just make the edits and not worry about the lints. I thought I spoke to it nicely. Anyways, it threw the following temper tantrum at me (see the screenshot). I suspect a huge hallucination happened due to pressure of not being able to complete a task, perhaps because there is a fault with the opencode tool (or maybe open router provider?).

Has anyone else seen this before?

This issue might be a duplicate of existing issues. Please check:

  • #266: Similar issue with Gemini not handling the edit tool well, with frequent failures on edit operations
  • #262: Gemini getting stuck in "I'm finished" loops, which seems related to your model looping behavior
  • #2052: Subagents getting stuck in tool usage loops, particularly with file operations

Feel free to ignore if none of these address your specific case.

lmao the funniest thing i've seen in a while. however i don't think it should be a open issue in sst/opencode project.

agree^ this is just a rare and known behavior that happens with gemini regardless of “harness”
