R. Christian McDonald fe90f18004 epoch: Queue drain callbacks from each CPU's callback task
epoch_drain_callbacks() bound the calling thread to each CPU in turn
to queue a callback on that CPU's record. Callers are often user
threads, such as kldunload or ifconfig destroy, and ULE does not
preempt a CPU-bound thread for a migrating thread of no better
priority, so each bind could wait out a time slice. On an 8-CPU VM
with six busy loops running, destroying an epair interface took 1.5 s
and kldunload pflow 0.8 s.

Instead, set a request flag on each record and enqueue that CPU's
callback task, which queues the callback before it polls the record.
The task runs on the CPU's softirq gtaskqueue thread at PI_SOFT, which
preempts a busy user thread, so the request is served at once; the
caller no longer migrates. Both operations now take under 10 ms, idle
or under load.

FreeBSD Source:

This is the top level of the FreeBSD source directory.

FreeBSD is an operating system used to power modern servers, desktops, and embedded platforms. A large community has continually developed it for more than thirty years. Its advanced networking, security, and storage features have made FreeBSD the platform of choice for many of the busiest web sites and most pervasive embedded networking and storage devices.

For copyright information, please see the file COPYRIGHT in this directory. Additional copyright information also exists for some sources in this tree - please see the specific source directories for more information.

The Makefile in this directory supports a number of targets for building components (or all) of the FreeBSD source tree. See build(7), config(8), FreeBSD handbook on building userland, and Handbook for kernels for more information, including setting make(1) variables.

For information on the CPU architectures and platforms supported by FreeBSD, see the FreeBSD website's Platforms page.

For official FreeBSD bootable images, see the release page.
