fix(code): warm MCP auth imports off event loop (#4855)
Related #4786 When `dcode` starts with MCP servers enabled, it loads the code used to connect to those servers. Loading the optional authentication support for the first time can perform filesystem work. Previously, that work happened on the async server's event loop, where blocking calls are rejected, so startup could fail with: BlockingError: Blocking call to os.getcwd `dcode` now loads MCP authentication support in a worker thread before the server needs it. This keeps the potentially blocking work away from the event loop so the runtime no longer rejects it during startup. --- #4786 addressed the immediate failure by limiting `filelock` to versions before 3.30. This follow-up hardens `dcode` against the broader problem instead of relying only on one dependency version. The version limit remains in place for now. If the optional authentication support cannot be loaded, the failure is still reported only for an MCP server that needs it; it does not prevent unrelated or stdio MCP servers from loading. A startup smoke test uses the same blocking-call detector as the runtime to verify that first-time authentication loading happens in a worker thread, so CI catches regressions. |

fix(code): avoid blocking MCP OAuth token refresh (#4770)
Fixes MCP OAuth token refresh crashing tool calls under `langgraph dev` with a `NodeCancelledError`. --- OAuth refresh previously performed token-file work synchronously. BlockBuster could interrupt that work, cancel session initialization, and leave its `AsyncExitStack` to be finalized from another task. Users then saw errors such as: Attempted to exit cancel scope in a different task than it was entered in Token-file I/O now runs in worker threads. Writes are serialized, token and expiry values are read from one snapshot, and cancellation waits for token writes and refresh-lock acquisition or release to finish before propagating. Partial MCP sessions are closed by the task that created them without hiding the original failure. --------- Co-authored-by: open-swe[bot] <open-swe@users.noreply.github.com> |

fix(code): pin filelock below 3.30 to avoid blocking import (#4786)
`filelock` 3.30.0 runs a blocking temp-directory probe (`_probe_link_follow_symlinks`) at import time. `deepagents-code` imports `filelock` (via `mcp_auth`) on the async server-graph startup path, so Blockbuster rejects the resulting `os.getcwd` call and the graph fails its readiness check with `BlockingError: Blocking call to os.getcwd`, aborting startup entirely. The broad `>=3.12,<4.0.0` range let a fresh install resolve the just-released 3.30.0, which is why even downgrading `deepagents-code` reproduced it. Capping at `<3.30` keeps resolution on 3.29.x. A follow-up can make the `filelock` import loop-safe (e.g. warm it up off the event loop) and relax the cap. ## Release Note Fix `deepagents-code` startup failure (`BlockingError: Blocking call to os.getcwd`) caused by `filelock` 3.30.0. ## Test Plan - [ ] `dcode` launches cleanly with `filelock` resolved to 3.29.x Made by [Open SWE](https://openswe.vercel.app/agents/a27d2d36-4e59-b0b2-edbb-228bc6e557c9) Co-authored-by: open-swe[bot] <open-swe@users.noreply.github.com> |

feat(code): add Meta model provider (#4650)
Adds the Meta Model API to the model switcher, credential manager, model discovery, and optional-provider installer. The new `meta` extra installs the MIT-licensed `langchain-meta>=0.5.0` integration (published by the `langchain-ai` org), and the base `langchain` dependency is bumped to `>=1.3.13` so `init_chat_model` resolves the `meta` provider through the standard LangChain provider path. Verified against `langchain-meta` 0.5.0: `ChatMetaModel` reads `MODEL_API_KEY` for the key and `MODEL_API_BASE` for the base URL. fix(code): serialize MCP OAuth token refreshes to prevent reuse revocation (#4565)
Fixed frequent LangSmith MCP OAuth timeouts/re-auth prompts caused by concurrent token refreshes invalidating the session; refreshes are now serialized across dcode processes and provider instances. --- dcode stores MCP OAuth tokens per-server under `~/.deepagents/.state/mcp-tokens/`. The MCP SDK's `OAuthClientProvider` serializes refreshes with an in-memory `OAuthContext.lock`, which only covers a single provider instance. Two dcode processes — or two provider instances in one process (e.g. a throwaway discovery session created during tool loading alongside the cached runtime session) — can each read the same refresh token from disk and `POST` the `refresh_token` grant concurrently. The LangSmith OAuth server (in `langchainplus`) rotates refresh tokens and, on replay of an already-rotated token, treats it as reuse and revokes every active refresh token for that identity+client. That is why the LangSmith MCP worked for a few minutes (one access-token lifetime) and then hung until a full re-auth. This adds a cross-process lock (`filelock`) keyed on a sibling `.lock` file next to each token file. Before refreshing, `_ExpiryAwareOAuthClientProvider` acquires the lock, reloads tokens from disk (so a peer's rotation is observed and the refresh is skipped when the token is already valid), and only then performs and persists the SDK refresh grant. The lock wait is bounded (falls back to a best-effort refresh on timeout so a crashed peer can't hang tool calls), and all blocking file IO runs in a worker thread to keep the `blockbuster`-guarded server loop responsive. The lock file holds no token material. `filelock` is added as a direct dependency (`>=3.12,<4.0.0`); it was already resolved transitively (via `huggingface-hub`) at `3.29.4`. It is MIT-licensed and actively maintained. feat(sdk): optional video frame extraction on read_file (#4094)
Adds video frame extraction to the `read_file` tool, gated behind the optional `deepagents[video]` extra. > [!IMPORTANT] > Per the LangChain [alpha API policy](https://docs.langchain.com/oss/python/versioning#alpha-apis), this feature is experimental and subject to changes. It should be used cautiously in production environments while we learn from real video-read workflows. ## User stories A user with `deepagents[video]` installed can ask an agent to inspect a video file through `read_file`, including on models that do not accept provider-native video blocks. The file is decoded with a PyAV/Pillow backend, sampled into JPEG frames, and attached to the next model request as a synthetic human message after the tool result. The `read_file` tool result itself stays text-only: the `ToolMessage` only reports that frames were sampled, while the image content blocks live in the synthetic follow-up message. This keeps the tool response compatible with providers that require tool outputs to be plain text. A user _without_ `deepagents[video]` installed _will not_ see the frame-extraction behavior or video-specific tool guidance. Inline user-supplied video handling is unchanged by this PR; model capability guidance continues to come from the configured model profile. ## Behavior with the extra installed When video dependencies are available, `read_file` treats video reads as frame-extraction requests: - `offset` is interpreted as seconds into the source video. - `limit` is interpreted as the number of seconds to sample. - Sampling remains fixed, so agents can inspect narrower windows when they need more temporal detail. - `.mkv` is included as a video extension for this gated path. Resource controls cover raw input size, frame count, emitted bytes, decode time, and frame dimensions. The raw video input cap is now 1 GiB, and oversized sampled frames are downscaled before JPEG encoding instead of rejecting normal high-resolution videos. ## Behavior without the extra installed When video dependencies are unavailable, the new frame-extraction feature stays dormant: - `read_file` does not attempt frame extraction. - Existing video files continue through the generic multimodal content-block path. - `.mkv` is read as binary by backends, then returned as a generic file block instead of sampled video frames. - The `read_file` tool help keeps the previous text/image/PDF guidance instead of describing video seconds-based pagination. Ultimately, the SDK maintains behavior as identical to prior to this PR. ## Example <img width="1668" height="785" alt="Screenshot 2026-06-23 at 1 12 52 AM" src="https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/cb460696-5e1e-40b8-83da-58b7c19e73cc" /> --------- Co-authored-by: deepagents <[email protected]> Co-authored-by: Claude Code <action@github.com> Co-authored-by: Deep Agent <agent@deepagents.dev> Co-authored-by: Mason Daugherty <mason@langchain.dev> Co-authored-by: Mason Daugherty <github@mdrxy.com> |

chore(code,evals,talon): cap Pydantic below 2.14 alpha (#4315)
`deepagents-code` currently has to resolve with prereleases enabled because it pins the prerelease SDK package `deepagents==0.7.0a2`. That global prerelease mode can also pull unrelated transitive prereleases. In practice, installer-style `uv tool install --prerelease allow deepagents-code==0.1.25` can select `pydantic==2.14.0a1`. That alpha currently exposes a LangChain class-construction failure on Python 3.12/3.13 while importing `BaseLLM`, which causes `dcode` startup to crash with `'function' object is not subscriptable` while evaluating `dict[str, Any] | None`. This adds a temporary direct Pydantic bound for `deepagents-code` so the installer still permits the prerelease Deep Agents SDK while avoiding the unrelated Pydantic alpha. The lock updates include the `code` package lock and the `evals` lock entry that mirrors the local `deepagents-code` dependency. The LangChain-side hardening is being handled separately in langchain-ai/langchain#38480. |

Local dcode sessions now start with the JS interpreter and safe PTC bridge available by default, while remote sandbox launches keep it disabled unless explicitly requested. `langchain-quickjs` is now a core dependency, so users no longer need to install the `quickjs` extra just to use interpreter support. |

fix(code): bake release commit into dcode doctor (#4225)
`dcode doctor` now reports the exact commit a released wheel was built from (once the release workflow sets `DEEPAGENTS_CODE_BUILD_COMMIT`). --- Released wheels and sdists ship no `.git` metadata, so `dcode doctor` could only resolve a `Commit hash` for *editable* installs that probe a live working tree — every normal pip/pipx/wheel install correctly showed `unknown`. This stamps the release commit into the package at build time so installed wheels report the real commit. A hatchling build hook (`hatch_build.py`) writes a generated `_build_info.py` with `BUILD_COMMIT` **only** when `DEEPAGENTS_CODE_BUILD_COMMIT` is set (CI release builds); it validates the value is a hex SHA, registers the file as a build artifact, and removes it afterward so the working tree stays clean. `doctor` now prefers that stamped commit and falls back to the existing live `git rev-parse` probe, so editable/dev installs keep reporting the live working-tree commit (which reflects local changes). fix(code): report same-version dependency updates (#4146)
The installer now distinguishes a true no-op reinstall from a same-version reinstall that still moves transitive packages. When `uv` reports dependency changes, the final status and footer say dependencies were updated, and the raw install output is saved so users can inspect the full details after abbreviated terminal output. |
