SergeyMenshykhandDmytro Struk 2de1cbed50 .Net: [RestApi] Dynamic payload generation with namespaced payload parameters (#2467)
### Motivation and Context

The dynamic payload creation was requested by a few internal teams. It
allows SK RestAPI functionality consumer code to only supply arguments
for parameters specified in the OpenAPI payload metadata for PUT and
POST operations, while the rest – payload constriction, data type
conversion, parameter namespacing, etc. – is handled by SK RestAPI
functionality.

### Description

#### Context
Today, the only way to pass a payload for a PUT or POST RestAPI
operation is by adding the `payload` argument to the context variables
collection before executing the operation. The `payload` argument, for
operations requiring an 'application/json' payload, is expected to be a
valid JSON with all the necessary properties initialized. This approach
is not convenient for SK consumers who only want to provide the required
payload parameters, similar to how they handle query string and header
parameters, without having to construct the payload themselves.

#### Dynamic creation of payload
By default, dynamic payload creation is disabled to ensure backward
compatibility. To enable it, the `BuildOperationPayloadDynamically`
property of the `OpenApiSkillExecutionParameters` execution parameters
should be set to `true` when importing the AI plugin:

```csharp
var plugin = await kernel.ImportAIPluginAsync("<skill name>", new Uri("<chatGPT-plugin>"), new OpenApiSkillExecutionParameters(httpClient) { BuildOperationPayloadDynamically = true });
```

So, if a RestAPI operation payload schema requires payload like the
following:
```json
{
	"value": "secret-value",
	"attributes": {
		"enabled": true
	}
}
```

To dynamically build it, the consumer code needs to register the
following arguments in the context variables collection:

```csharp
var contextVariables = new ContextVariables();
contextVariables.Set("value", "secret-value");
contextVariables.Set("enabled", true);
```

#### Payload parameter namespacing
When building payload dynamically, and a RestAPI operation requires the
'application/json' content type, it's possible that the content may have
properties with the identical names, see example below, at different
levels. In such cases, SK can't resolve their values unambiguously from
a flat list of arguments unless there's a namespacing mechanism that
allows the distinction of those properties from one another.

The namespacing mechanism relies on prefixing parameter names with their
parent parameter name, separated by dots. So, the 'namespaced' parameter
names should be used when adding arguments to the context variables
collection. For example, consider this JSON:

```json
{
  "upn": "<sender upn>",
  "receiver": {
    "upn": "<receiver upn>"
  },
  "cc": {
    "upn": "<cc upn>"
  }
}
```
It contains `upn` properties at different levels. The argument
registration for the parameters (property values) will look like:
```csharp
var contextVariables = new ContextVariables();
contextVariables.Set("upn", "<sender-upn-value>");
contextVariables.Set("receiver.upn", "<receiver-upn-value>");
contextVariables.Set("cc.upn", "<cc-upn-value>");
```

The namespacing mechanism is disabled by default for backward
compatibility and can be easily enabled by setting the value `true` to
the `NamespacePayloadParameters` property of the
`OpenApiSkillExecutionParameters` execution parameters when importing
the AI plugin:

```csharp
var plugin = await kernel.ImportAIPluginAsync("<skill name>", new Uri("<chatGPT-plugin>"), new OpenApiSkillExecutionParameters(httpClient) { NamespacePayloadParameters = true });
```

#### Parameter arguments data type conversion
Currently, the SK context variables collection only supports string
variables.This means that in order to set or add a primitive or complex
type variable, it must first be converted or serialized into a string.
However, this behavior causes issues when the RestAPI functionality
sends HTTP requests with an 'application/json' payload. For instance, a
property like enabled might have the string value `"true"` instead of
the intended Boolean value `true`.

To mitigate this problem, the RestAPIOperationRunner class iterates over
the operation payload metadata. During this process, it converts all
string arguments to their corresponding types as specified in the
metadata. This ensures accurate type representation within the operation
payload.

Karol ŻakandAbby Harrison 601c9de124 Python: Add HF model and pipeline kwargs to allow model loading customization (#2547)

I was trying to use this library to load and use [HF Falcon
model](https://huggingface.co/tiiuae/falcon-7b-instruct). Unfortunately
in order to make it work I needed to pass in some additional arguments
such as `torch_dtype`, `cache_dir` or `tokenizer`. It was not possible
with current implementation so I decided to add `model_kwargs` and
`pipeline_kwargs` to the `HuggingFaceTextCompletion` class init function
so now, with the changes I introduced I can successfully load any
`falcon` models by using this code:
```python
import semantic_kernel as sk
import semantic_kernel.connectors.ai.hugging_face as sk_hf
import torch
from transformers import AutoTokenizer
cache_dir = "/mnt/tmp"
model_name = "tiiuae/falcon-7b-instruct"
tokenizer = AutoTokenizer.from_pretrained(
    pretrained_model_name_or_path=model_name,
    cache_dir=cache_dir,
    trust_remote_code=True)
hf_model = sk_hf.HuggingFaceTextCompletion(
    model_name,
    task="text-generation",
    model_kwargs={
        "cache_dir": cache_dir,
        "torch_dtype": torch.bfloat16
    },
    pipeline_kwargs={
        "tokenizer": tokenizer,
        "trust_remote_code": True,
        "device": 0,
    }
)
```

### Description

<!-- Describe your changes, the overall approach, the underlying design.
These notes will help understanding how your code works. Thanks! -->

The changes I introduced add `model_kwargs` and `pipeline_kwargs` to
`HuggingFaceTextCompletion` class so that these arguments are then
passed to the underlying `transformers.pipeline()` function and thus
allow more customization options.

3881a3137f Python: Adding USearch memory connector (#2358)
### Motivation and Context

The integration of [USearch](https://github.com/unum-cloud/usearch) as a
memory connector to Semantic Kernel (SK).

### Description

The USearch `Index` does not natively have the ability to store
different collections, and it only stores embeddings without other
attributes like `MemoryRecord`.

The `USearchMemoryStore` class encapsulates these capabilities. It uses
the USearch `Index` to store a collection of embeddings under unique
IDs, with original collection names mapped to those IDs. Other
`MemoryRecord ` attributes are stored in a `pyarrow.Table`, which is
mapped to each collection.

It's important to note the current behavior when a user removes a record
or upserts a new one with an existing ID: the old row is not removed
from the `pyarrow.Table`. This is done for performance reasons but could
lead to the table growing in size.

By default, `USearchMemoryStore` operates as an in-memory store. To
enable persistence, you must set the persist mode with calling
appropriate `__init__ `, supplying a path to the directory for the
persist files. For each collection, two files will be created:
`{collection_name}.usearch` and `{collection_name}.parquet`. Changes
will only be dumped to the disk when `close_async` is called. Due to the
interface provided by the base class `MemoryStoreBase`, this happens
implicitly when using a context manager, or it may be called explicitly.

Since collection names are used to store files on disk, all names are
converted to lowercase.

To ensure efficient use of memory, you should call `close_async`.

Anthony PuppoandLee Miller d034b592ed .Net: Expose the token counter in the TextChunker (#2147)
### Motivation and Context

The TextChunker currently uses a rough estimate of the total number of
tokens in a string (input divided by 4). This PR aims to expose the
counter logic to be caller configurable, enabling accurate token counts
based on which model will be consuming the chunks.

Fixes #2146

### Description

Adds an optional token counter function parameter to the TextChunker
methods. If not supplied, it falls back to the base token counter logic.

98d2d9fa2e Python: ACS should use Hnsw for vector indexing (#2534)
### Motivation and Context

This PR builds on https://github.com/microsoft/semantic-kernel/pull/2435
- the previous PR updates azure-search to the latest package , where it
is recommended to use HnswVectorSearchAlgorithmConfiguration. The
previous implementation appears to be in a semi-deprecated state.

This new flow is the publicly recommended use for ACS according to
https://github.com/Azure/cognitive-search-vector-pr/tree/main/demo-python/code.

### Description
- update `azure-search-documents` dependency from `11.4.0b6 -> 11.4.0b8`
- index configuration changed from `VectorSearchAlgorithmConfiguration
-> HnswVectorSearchAlgorithmConfiguration`
- update `search_client.search()` call in `get_nearest_matches()` to be
consistent with the new index api

59cbbdb2af Python: Add Google PaLM connector with chat completion and text embedding (#2258)
### Motivation and Context

Implementation of Google PaLM connector with chat completion, text
embedding and three example files to demonstrate their functionality.
Closes #2098
I also opened a PR for text completion #2076

<!-- Thank you for your contribution to the semantic-kernel repo!
Please help reviewers and future users, providing the following
information:
  1. Why is this change required?
  2. What problem does it solve?
  3. What scenario does it contribute to?
  4. If it fixes an open issue, please link to the issue here.

-->

### Description
**What's new:**
1. Implemented Google Palm connector with chat completion and text
embedding
2. Added 3 example files to `python/samples/kernel-syntax-examples`
3. The example files show PaLM chat in action with skills, memory, and
just with user messages. The memory example uses PaLM embedding as well
5. Added integration tests to test chat with skills and embedding with
kernel.memory functions
6. Added unit tests to verify successful class initialization and
correct behavior from class functions

**There are some important differences between google palm chat and open
ai chat:**

1. PaLM has two functions for chatting, `chat` and `reply`. The chat
function in google's genai library starts a new conversation, and reply
continues the conversation. Reply is an attribute of the response object
returned by chat. So an instance of the `GooglePalmChatCompletion` class
needs a way to determine which function to use, which is why I
introduced a private attribute to store the response object. See
https://developers.generativeai.google/api/python/google/generativeai/types/ChatResponse
2. PaLM does not use system messages. Instead, the chat function takes a
parameter called context. It serves the same purpose, to prime the
assistant with certain behaviors and information. So when the user
passes a system message to `complete_chat_async`, it is passed to `chat`
as the context parameter.
3. Semantic memory works with the chat service as long as the user
creates a chat prompt template. The prompt containing the memory needs
to be added to the chat prompt template as a system message. See
`python\samples\kernel-syntax-examples\google_palm_chat_with_memory.py`
for more details. If the only purpose of `complete_async` in
`GooglePalmChatCompletion` is to send memories + user messages to the
chat service as a text prompt, then `complete_async` is not fulfilling
its intended purpose. A possible solution would be to send the text
prompt as a request to the text service within `complete_async`.

Currently no warnings, there was 1 warning when first installing genai
with `poetry add google.generativeai==v0.1.0rc2` from within poetry
shell: "The locked version 0.1.0rc2 for google-generativeai is a yanked
version. Reason for being yanked: Release is marked as supporting Py3.8,
but in practice it requires 3.9". We would need to require later
versions of python to fix it.

2e84b30e21 .Net: Change public APIs to accept ILoggerFactory (#2472)
### Motivation and Context

Following best practices for libraries outlined at
https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/dotnet/core/extensions/logging-library-authors,
SK should generally be taking an ILoggerFactory rather than an ILogger.
This allows individual components to each get a logger with its own
category applied.

Seth GoingsandShawn Callegari 781b75dbca .Net: docs(dotnet): supply maxTokens to avoid response truncation (#2249)
### Motivation and Context

  1. Why is this change required?

When working through the examples in the dotnet/README.md file, I
noticed that [OpenAI sets the max_tokens to
16](https://platform.openai.com/docs/api-reference/completions/create),
which is far too low for these examples and led to truncated output and
failing prompt chaining examples.

  3. What problem does it solve?

This makes the README.md examples work again.

  5. What scenario does it contribute to?

Onboarding/experimentation.

Bumps [Azure.Identity](https://github.com/Azure/azure-sdk-for-net) from
1.9.0 to 1.10.0.
<details>
<summary>Release notes</summary>
<p><em>Sourced from <a

releases</a>.</em></p>
<blockquote>
<h2>Azure.Identity_1.10.0</h2>
<h2>1.10.0 (2023-08-14)</h2>
<h3>Features Added</h3>
<ul>
<li>Added <code>BrowserCustomization</code> property to
<code>InteractiveBrowserCredential</code> to enable web view
customization for interactive authentication.</li>
</ul>
<h3>Bugs Fixed</h3>
<ul>
<li>ManagedIdentityCredential will no longer attempt to parse invalid
json payloads on responses from the managed identity endpoint.</li>
<li>Fixed an issue where AzurePowerShellCredential fails to parse the
token response from Azure PowerShell. <a
href="https://redirect.github.com/Azure/azure-sdk-for-net/issues/22638">#22638</a></li>
</ul>
<h2>Azure.Identity_1.10.0-beta.1</h2>
<h2>1.10.0-beta.1 (2023-07-17)</h2>
<h3>Features Added</h3>
<ul>
<li>Continuous Access Evaluation (CAE) is now configurable per-request
by setting the <code>IsCaeEnabled</code> property of
<code>TokenRequestContext</code> via its constructor.</li>
<li>Added <code>IsSupportLoggingEnabled</code> property to
<code>TokenCredentialOptions</code> which equates to passing 'true' for
the <code>enablePiiLogging</code> parameter to the 'WithLogging' method
on the MSAL client builder.</li>
</ul>
<h3>Bugs Fixed</h3>
<ul>
<li>Fixed an issue with <code>TokenCachePersistenceOptions</code> where
credentials in the same process would share the same cache, even if they
had different configured names.</li>
<li>ManagedIdentityCredential now ignores empty ClientId values. <a
href="https://redirect.github.com/Azure/azure-sdk-for-net/issues/37100">#37100</a></li>
<li>ManagedIdentityCredential will no longer attempt to parse invalid
json payloads on responses from the managed identity endpoint.</li>
<li>When utilizing <code>EnvironmentCredential</code> from
<code>DefaultAzureCredential</code> the credential will now override the
<code>TENANT_ID</code> environment value if the TenantId value is set in
<code>DefaultAzureCredentialOptions</code>.</li>
</ul>
<h3>Other Changes</h3>
<ul>
<li>All developer credentials in the <code>DefaultAzureCredential</code>
credential chain will fall through to the next credential in the chain
on any failure. Previously, some exceptions would throw
<code>AuthenticationFailedException</code>, which stops further progress
in the chain.</li>
</ul>
