Python: serialize the result as string, consistent with behavior before 1.2 (#7528)
### Motivation and Context <!-- Thank you for your contribution to the semantic-kernel repo! Please help reviewers and future users, providing the following information: 1. Why is this change required? 2. What problem does it solve? 3. What scenario does it contribute to? 4. If it fixes an open issue, please link to the issue here. --> Fix #7340 This adds a serializer to the FunctionResultContent for the result field. Before SK 1.2 all results where stored as string using `str(value)`, after that was changed to Any, to allow more complex types to be stored with full details. This changes things back to that behavior for serialization by adding a pydantic field_serializer for that field which uses the same method (`str(value)`). Further this allows one to subclass FunctionResultContent and overwrite the built-in serializer with your own. ### Description <!-- Describe your changes, the overall approach, the underlying design. These notes will help understanding how your code works. Thanks! --> ### Contribution Checklist <!-- Before submitting this PR, please make sure: --> - [x] The code builds clean without any errors or warnings - [x] The PR follows the [SK Contribution Guidelines](https://github.com/microsoft/semantic-kernel/blob/main/CONTRIBUTING.md) and the [pre-submission formatting script](https://github.com/microsoft/semantic-kernel/blob/main/CONTRIBUTING.md#development-scripts) raises no violations - [x] All unit tests pass, and I have added new tests where possible - [x] I didn't break anyone 😄 |

Python: Persist user and assistant messages in chat history (concept sample) (#7407)
### Motivation and Context In the concept sample `chat_gpt_api_function_calling.py`, the user messages and assistant messages are not persisted in the history as the user continues to chat. <!-- Thank you for your contribution to the semantic-kernel repo! .Net: Added additional data to auto function invocation filter context (#7398)
--> Resolves: https://github.com/microsoft/semantic-kernel/issues/7208 Added following data to auto function invocation filter context: - Tool Call ID - `ChatMessageContent` associated with function invocation operation Note: API compatibility suppression is required for `AutoFunctionInvocationContext` constructor to make `ChatMessageContent` required, since auto function invocation is happening only during chat completion operation, so `ChatMessageContent` should be always available. The reason why the constructor is public at the moment is because it lives in `Microsoft.SemanticKernel.Abstractions` package, while it is initialized in auto function calling logic in specific connector. When function calling abstraction will be in place, the constructor will be marked is `internal`, since `AutoFunctionInvocationContext` should not be created on user side. ### Contribution Checklist <!-- Before submitting this PR, please make sure: --> - [x] The code builds clean without any errors or warnings - [x] The PR follows the [SK Contribution Guidelines](https://github.com/microsoft/semantic-kernel/blob/main/CONTRIBUTING.md) and the [pre-submission formatting script](https://github.com/microsoft/semantic-kernel/blob/main/CONTRIBUTING.md#development-scripts) raises no violations - [x] All unit tests pass, and I have added new tests where possible - [x] I didn't break anyone 😄 |

ADR Agents - AgentChat Serialization Design (#6972)
### Motivation and Context <!-- Thank you for your contribution to the semantic-kernel repo! Please help reviewers and future users, providing the following information: 1. Why is this change required? 2. What problem does it solve? 3. What scenario does it contribute to? 4. If it fixes an open issue, please link to the issue here. --> Users of the Agent Framework are unable to store and later retrieve conversation state when using an AgentChat to coordinate Agent interactions. This limits the ability for an agent conversation to single use as it must be maintained with memory of the process that initiated the conversation. Formalizing a mechanism that supports serialization and deserialization of any AgentChat class provides an avenue to capture and restore state across multiple sessions as well as compute boundaries. ### Description <!-- Describe your changes, the overall approach, the underlying design. These notes will help understanding how your code works. Thanks! --> Design in ADR form for input, exploration of alternatives, and review. ### Contribution Checklist <!-- Before submitting this PR, please make sure: --> - [X] The PR follows the [SK Contribution Guidelines](https://github.com/microsoft/semantic-kernel/blob/main/CONTRIBUTING.md) and the [pre-submission formatting script](https://github.com/microsoft/semantic-kernel/blob/main/CONTRIBUTING.md#development-scripts) raises no violations - [X] I didn't break anyone 😄 |

ADR Agents - Assistant V2 Support (#7215)
### Motivation and Context <!-- Thank you for your contribution to the semantic-kernel repo! Please help reviewers and future users, providing the following information: 1. Why is this change required? 2. What problem does it solve? 3. What scenario does it contribute to? 4. If it fixes an open issue, please link to the issue here. --> Open AI has release the _Assistants V2_ API. This builds on top of the V1 _assistant_ concept, but also invalidates certain V1 features. In addition, the _dotnet_ API that supports _Assistant V2_ features is entirely divergent on the `Azure.AI.OpenAI.Assistants` SDK that is currently in use. ### Description <!-- Describe your changes, the overall approach, the underlying design. These notes will help understanding how your code works. Thanks! --> ADR describes changes to `Microsoft.SemanticKernel.Agents.OpenAI` project / package. Changes prototyped in this PR: https://github.com/microsoft/semantic-kernel/pull/7126 PR completion is gated by the V2 connector migration work due to versioning constraints. > ADR Reviewed on July 18th, 2024 ### Contribution Checklist <!-- Before submitting this PR, please make sure: --> - [X] The code builds clean without any errors or warnings - [X] The PR follows the [SK Contribution Guidelines](https://github.com/microsoft/semantic-kernel/blob/main/CONTRIBUTING.md) and the [pre-submission formatting script](https://github.com/microsoft/semantic-kernel/blob/main/CONTRIBUTING.md#development-scripts) raises no violations - [X] All unit tests pass, and I have added new tests where possible - [X] I didn't break anyone 😄 --------- Co-authored-by: Evan Mattson <[email protected]> |

Python: Add application ID for Azure AI Inference (#7341)
### Motivation and Context
<!-- Thank you for your contribution to the semantic-kernel repo!
Please help reviewers and future users, providing the following
information:
1. Why is this change required?
2. What problem does it solve?
3. What scenario does it contribute to?
4. If it fixes an open issue, please link to the issue here.
-->
All Microsoft tools/SDKs that internally use the Azure AI Inference SDK
are required to set a unique application ID, which will be part of the
"use-agent" HTTP request header. This will allow teams to track usage
from that tool/SDK, using service-side telemetry dashboards.
Semantic Kernel's application ID is registered as
"semantic-kernel-python/{version}" according to this
[list](https://microsoft.sharepoint.com/❌/t/AzureMLExperiences-AgentsandCommonInferenceSDKteam/EUVgsgpFtdRLnkhxrdtJ1MIBDMl3wVfoza4c13MI_K6ywg?e=MEpwyo&ovuser=72f988bf-86f1-41af-91ab-2d7cd011db47%2Ctaochen%40microsoft.com&clickparams=eyJBcHBOYW1lIjoiVGVhbXMtRGVza3RvcCIsIkFwcFZlcnNpb24iOiI0OS8yNDA2MjcyNDgwNyJ9).
### Description
<!-- Describe your changes, the overall approach, the underlying design.
These notes will help understanding how your code works. Thanks! -->
Add "semantic-kernel-python/{version}" as the application ID where we
use the Azure AI Inference SDK.

.Net: DuckDBMemoryStore RemoveBatchAsync method performance improvement (#7252)
### Motivation and Context To optimize performance by reducing the number of database calls during batch deletions in DuckDBMemoryStore. ### Description The updated **RemoveBatchAsync** method now executes a single SQL DELETE query to remove multiple keys at once, replacing the previous approach of executing individual delete queries for each key. ### Contribution Checklist <!-- Before submitting this PR, please make sure: --> - [ ] The code builds clean without any errors or warnings - [ ] The PR follows the [SK Contribution Guidelines](https://github.com/microsoft/semantic-kernel/blob/main/CONTRIBUTING.md) and the [pre-submission formatting script](https://github.com/microsoft/semantic-kernel/blob/main/CONTRIBUTING.md#development-scripts) raises no violations - [ ] All unit tests pass, and existing test is okay for this change - [ ] I didn't break anyone 😄dotnet-1.15.1-nightly-240716.1 |

.Net: Pinecone RemoveBatchFromNamespaceAsync method performance optimization (#7230)
### Motivation and Context To optimize the code by reducing the number of HTTP requests needed to remove a list of keys from a namespace. Instead of multiple HTTP calls, a single HTTP call will now handle the removal. ### Description Previously, RemoveBatchFromNamespaceAsync executed multiple HTTP calls to remove keys. This optimized code reduces the overhead by executing a single HTTP request to remove the list of keys. ### Contribution Checklist <!-- Before submitting this PR, please make sure: --> - [ ] The code builds clean without any errors or warnings - [ ] The PR follows the [SK Contribution Guidelines](https://github.com/microsoft/semantic-kernel/blob/main/CONTRIBUTING.md) and the [pre-submission formatting script](https://github.com/microsoft/semantic-kernel/blob/main/CONTRIBUTING.md#development-scripts) raises no violations - [ ] All unit tests pass, and I have added new tests where possible - [ ] I didn't break anyone 😄 --------- Co-authored-by: Roger Barreto <[email protected]> |
