35f9b6ef3a util: add fallback for qemu_memfd_alloc()

This patch may require additional SELinux policies to work for enforced

f04cf9239a util: add linux-only memfd fallback
Implement memfd_create() fallback if not available in system libc.
memfd_create() is still not included in glibc today, atlhough it's been
available since Linux 3.17 in Oct 2014.

memfd has numerous advantages over traditional shm/mmap for ipc memory
sharing with fd handler, which we are going to make use of for
vhost-user logging memory in following patches.

The next patches are going to introduce helpers to use best practices of
memfd usage and provide some compatibility fallback. memfd.c is thus
temporarily useless and eventually empty if memfd_create() is provided
by the system.

10817bf09d coroutine: move into libqemuutil.a library
The coroutine files are currently referenced by the block-obj-y
variable. The coroutine functionality though is already used by
more than just the block code. eg migration code uses coroutine
yield. In the future the I/O channel code will also use the
coroutine yield functionality. Since the coroutine code is nicely
self-contained it can be easily built as part of the libqemuutil.a
library, making it widely available.

The headers are also moved into include/qemu, instead of the
include/block directory, since they are now part of the util
codebase, and the impl was never in the block/ directory
either.

57cb38b383 osdep: add qemu_fork() wrapper for safely handling signals
When using regular fork() the child process of course inherits
all the parents' signal handlers. If the child then proceeds
to close() any open file descriptors, it may break some of those
registered signal handlers. The child generally does not want to
ever run any of the signal handlers that the parent may have
installed in the short time before it exec's. The parent may also
have blocked various signals which the child process will want
enabled.

This introduces a wrapper qemu_fork() that takes care to sanitize
signal handling across fork. Before forking it blocks all signals
in the parent thread. After fork returns, the parent unblocks the
signals and carries on as usual. The child, however, resets all the
signal handlers back to their defaults before it unblocks signals.
The child process can now exec the binary in a "clean" signal
environment.

a0f1913637 util - add automated ID generation utility
Multiple sub-systems in QEMU may find it useful to generate IDs
for objects that a user may reference via QMP or HMP. This patch
presents a standardized way to do it, so that automatic ID generation
follows the same rules.

This patch enforces the following rules when generating an ID:

1.) Guarantee no collisions with a user-specified ID
2.) Identify the sub-system the ID belongs to
3.) Guarantee of uniqueness
4.) Spoiling predictability, to avoid creating an assumption
    of object ordering and parsing (i.e., we don't want users to think
    they can guess the next ID based on prior behavior).

The scheme for this is as follows (no spaces):

                # subsys D RR
Reserved char --|    |   | |
Subsystem String ----|   | |
Unique number (64-bit) --| |
Two-digit random number ---|

For example, a generated node-name for the block sub-system may look
like this:

    #block076

The caller of id_generate() is responsible for freeing the generated
node name string with g_free().

b77e7c8e99 qemu-sockets: fix conversion of ipv4/ipv6 JSON to QemuOpts
The QemuOpts-based code treats "option not set" and "option set
to false" the same way for the ipv4 and ipv6 options, because it
is meant to handle only the ",ipv4" and ",ipv6" substrings in
hand-crafted option parsers.

When converting InetSocketAddress to QemuOpts, however, it is
necessary to handle all three cases (not set, set to true, set
to false). Currently we are not handling all cases correctly.
The rules are:

* if none or both options are absent, leave things as is

* if the single present option is Y, the other should be N.
This can be implemented by leaving things as is, or by setting
the other option to N as done in this patch.

* if the single present option is N, the other should be Y.
This is handled by the "else if" branch of this patch.

This ensures that the ipv4 option has an effect on Windows,
where creating the socket with PF_UNSPEC makes an ipv6
socket. With this patch, ",ipv4" will result in a PF_INET
socket instead.

4d9310f427 oslib-win32: only provide localtime_r/gmtime_r if missing
The oslib-win32 file currently provides a localtime_r and
gmtime_r replacement unconditionally. Some versions of
Mingw-w64 would provide crude macros for localtime_r/gmtime_r
which QEMU takes care to disable. Latest versions of Mingw-w64
now provide actual functions for localtime_r/gmtime_r, but
with a twist that you have to include unistd.h or pthread.h
before including time.h. By luck some files in QEMU have
such an include order, resulting in compile errors:

This change adds a configure test to see if localtime_r
exits, and only enables the QEMU impl if missing. We also
re-arrange qemu-common.h try attempt to guarantee that all
source files get unistd.h before time.h and thus see the
localtime_r/gmtime_r defs.

So, wrap a Win32 manual-reset event with a fast userspace path. The
states and transitions are the same as for the futex and mutex/condvar
implementations, but the slow path is different of course. The idea
is to reset the Win32 event lazily, as part of a test-reset-test-wait
sequence. Such a sequence is, indeed, how QemuEvents are used by
RCU and other subsystems!

The patch includes a formal model of the algorithm.

615cf669b5 error: only prepend timestamp on stderr
The -msg timestamp=on option prepends a timestamp to error messages.
This is useful on stderr where it allows users to identify when an error
was raised.

Timestamps do not make sense on the monitor since error_report() is
called in response to a synchronous monitor command and the user already
knows "when" the command was issued. Additionally, the rest of the
monitor conversation lacks timestamps so the error timestamp cannot be
correlated with other activity.

Only prepend timestamps on stderr. This fixes libvirt's 'drive_del'
processing, which did not expect a timestamp. Other QEMU monitor
clients are probably equally confused by timestamps on monitor error
messages.

This will let us print options in a format that the user would actually

* write and id=, if the option has an id

1e9b65bb1b error: On abort, report where the error was created
This is particularly useful when we abort in error_propagate(),
because there the stack backtrace doesn't lead to where the error was
created.  Looks like this:

    Unexpected error in parse_block_error_action() at .../qemu/blockdev.c:322:
    qemu-system-x86_64: -drive if=none,werror=foo: 'foo' invalid write error action
    Aborted (core dumped)

Note: to get this example output, I monkey-patched drive_new() to pass
&error_abort to blockdev_init().

To keep the error handling boiler plate from growing even more, all
error_setFOO() become macros expanding into error_setFOO_internal()
with additional __FILE__, __LINE__, __func__ arguments. Not exactly
pretty, but it works.

The macro trickery breaks down when you take the address of an
error_setFOO(). Fortunately, we do that in just one place: qemu-ga's
Windows VSS provider and requester DLL wants to call
error_setg_win32() through a function pointer "to avoid linking glib
to the DLL". Use error_setg_win32_internal() there. The use of the
function pointer is already wrapped in a macro, so the churn isn't
bad.

Code size increases by some 35KiB for me (0.7%). Tolerable. Could be
less if we passed relative rather than absolute source file names to
the compiler, or forwent reporting __func__.

e7cf59e847 qga: Clean up unnecessarily dirty casts
qga_vss_fsfreeze() casts error_set_win32() from

    void (*)(Error **, int, ErrorClass, const char *, ...)

to

    void (*)(void **, int, int, const char *, ...)

The result is later called. Since the two types are not compatible,
the call is undefined behavior. It works in practice anyway.

However, there's no real need for trickery here. Clean it up as
follows:

* Declare struct Error, and fix the first parameter.

* Switch to error_setg_win32(). This gets rid of the troublesome
  ErrorClass parameter. Requires converting error_setg_win32() from
  macro to function, but that's trivially easy, because this is the
  only user of error_set_win32().

Since the pow2floor() function is now used in a hot code path,
make it inline; for consistency, provide pow2ceil() as an inline

Because these functions use ctz64() we have to put the inline
versions into host-utils.h, so they have access to ctz64(),
and move the inline is_power_of_2() along with them.

We then need to include host-utils.h from qemu-common.h so that
the files which use these functions via qemu-common.h still have

3de3d698d9 util/qemu-sockets: improve ai_flag hints for ipv6 hosts
*) Do not use AI_ADDRCONFIG on listening sockets, because this flag
makes it impossible to explicitly listen on '127.0.0.1' if no global
ipv4 address is configured additionally, making this a very
uncomfortable option.
*) Add AI_V4MAPPED hint for connecting sockets.

If your system is globally only connected via ipv6 you often still want
to be able to use '127.0.0.1' and 'localhost' (even if localhost doesn't
also have an ipv6 entry).
For example, PVE - unless explicitly asking for insecure mode - uses
ipv4 loopback addresses with QEMU for live migrations tunneled over SSH.
These fail to start because AI_ADDRCONFIG makes getaddrinfo refuse to
work with '127.0.0.1'.

As for the AI_V4MAPPED flag: glibc uses it by default, and providing
non-0 flags removes it. I think it makes sense to use it.

I also want to point out that glibc explicitly sidesteps POSIX standards
when passing 0 as hints by then assuming both AI_V4MAPPED and
AI_ADDRCONFIG (the latter being a rather weird choice IMO), while
according to POSIX.1-2001 it should be assumed 0. (glibc considers its
choice an improvement.)
Since either AI_CANONNAME or AI_PASSIVE are passed in our cases, glibc's
default flags in turn are disabled again unless explicitly added, which
I do with this patch.

485febc6d1 qmp: Wean off qerror_report()
The traditional QMP command handler interface

    int qmp_FOO(Monitor *mon, const QDict *params, QObject **ret_data);

doesn't provide for returning an Error object. Instead, the handler
is expected to stash it in the monitor with qerror_report().

When we rebased QMP on top of QAPI, we didn't change this interface.
Instead, commit 776574d introduced "middle mode" as a temporary aid
for converting existing QMP commands to QAPI one by one. More than
three years later, we're still using it.

Middle mode has two effects:

* Instead of the native input marshallers

      static void qmp_marshal_input_FOO(QDict *, QObject **, Error **)

  it generates input marshallers conforming to the traditional QMP
  command handler interface.

* It suppresses generation of code to register them with
  qmp_register_command()

  This permits giving them internal linkage.

As long as we need qmp-commands.hx, we can't use the registry behind
qmp_register_command(), so the latter has to stay for now.

The former has to go to get rid of qerror_report(). Changing all QMP
commands to fit the QAPI mold in one go was impractical back when we
started, but by now there are just a few stragglers left:
do_qmp_capabilities(), qmp_qom_set(), qmp_qom_get(), qmp_object_add(),
qmp_netdev_add(), do_device_add().

Switch middle mode to generate native input marshallers, and adapt the
stragglers. Simplifies both the monitor code and the stragglers.

Rename do_qmp_capabilities() to qmp_capabilities(), and
do_device_add() to qmp_device_add, because that's how QMP command
handlers are named today.

70b9433109 QemuOpts: Wean off qerror_report_err()
qerror_report_err() is a transitional interface to help with
converting existing monitor commands to QMP. It should not be used
elsewhere.

The only remaining user in qemu-option.c is qemu_opts_parse(). Is it
used in QMP context? If not, we can simply replace
qerror_report_err() by error_report_err().

The uses in qemu-img.c, qemu-io.c, qemu-nbd.c and under tests/ are
clearly not in QMP context.

The uses in vl.c aren't either, because the only QMP command handlers
there are qmp_query_status() and qmp_query_machines(), and they don't
call it.

Remaining uses:

* drive_def(): Command line -drive and such, HMP drive_add and pci_add

* hmp_chardev_add(): HMP chardev-add

* monitor_parse_command(): HMP core

* tmp_config_parse(): Command line -tpmdev

* net_host_device_add(): HMP host_net_add

* net_client_parse(): Command line -net and -netdev

* qemu_global_option(): Command line -global

* vnc_parse_func(): Command line -display, -vnc, default display, HMP
  change, QMP change.  Bummer.

* qemu_pci_hot_add_nic(): HMP pci_add

* usb_net_init(): Command line -usbdevice, HMP usb_add

Propagate errors through qemu_opts_parse(). Create a convenience
function qemu_opts_parse_noisily() that passes errors to
error_report_err(). Switch all non-QMP users outside tests to it.

That leaves vnc_parse_func(). Propagate errors through it. Since I'm
touching it anyway, rename it to vnc_parse().

Use atomic_or() for atomic bitmaps where several threads may set bits at
the same time. This avoids the race condition between threads loading

When setting all bits in a word we can avoid atomic ops and instead just
use an smp_mb() at the end.

Most bitmap users don't need atomicity so introduce new functions.

A minimal reproducer for the case is:
$ qemu-system-x86_64 -chardev udp,id=charrng0,host=127.0.0.1,port=1234,localaddr=,localport=1234
qemu-system-x86_64: -chardev udp,id=charrng0,host=127.0.0.1,port=1234,localaddr=,localport=1234: Invalid parameter 'localaddr'
Aborted (core dumped)

Prior to the commit mentioned above the error would be printed but the
value for localaddr and localport was simply ignored. I did not go
through the code to find out when it was broken.

Add the two fields so that the options can again be parsed correctly and
qemu doesn't abort().

6a11d5183f util: allow \n to terminate password input
The qemu_read_password() method looks for \r to terminate the
reading of the a password. This is what will be seen when
reading the password from a TTY. When scripting though, it is
useful to be able to send the password via a pipe, in which
case we must look for \n to terminate password input.

be58721dbf hbitmap: add hbitmap_merge
We add a bitmap merge operation to assist in error cases
where we wish to combine two bitmaps together.

This is algorithmically O(bits) provided HBITMAP_LEVELS remains
constant. For a full bitmap on a 64bit machine:
sum(bits/64^k, k, 0, HBITMAP_LEVELS) ~= 1.01587 * bits

We may be able to improve running speed for particularly sparse
bitmaps by using iterators, but the running time for dense maps
will be worse.

We present the simpler solution first, and we can refine it later
if needed.

a59629fcc6 rcu: do not create thread in pthread_atfork callback
If QEMU forks after the CPU threads have been created, qemu_mutex_lock_iothread
will not be able to do qemu_cpu_kick_thread. There is no solution other than
assuming that forks after the CPU threads have been created will end up in an
exec. Forks before the CPU threads have been created (such as -daemonize)
have to call rcu_after_fork manually.

Notably, the oxygen theme for GTK+ forks and shows a "No such process" error
without this patch.

This patch can be reverted once the iothread loses the "kick the TCG thread"
magic.

User-mode emulation does not use the iothread, so it can also call
rcu_after_fork.

21b7cf9e07 rcu: handle forks safely
After forking, only the calling thread is duplicated in the child process.
The call_rcu thread has to be recreated in the child. Exploit the fact
that only one thread exists (same as when constructors run), and just redo
the entire initialization to ensure the threads are in the proper state.

The only additional things to do are emptying the list of threads
registered with RCU, and unlocking the lock that was taken in the prepare
callback (implementations are allowed to fail pthread_mutex_init()
if the mutex is still locked).

24fa90499f qemu-thread: do not use PTHREAD_MUTEX_ERRORCHECK
PTHREAD_MUTEX_ERRORCHECK is completely broken with respect to fork.
The way to safely do fork is to bring all threads to a quiescent
state by acquiring locks (either in callers---as we do for the
iothread mutex---or using pthread_atfork's prepare callbacks)
and then release them in the child.

The problem is that releasing error-checking locks in the child
fails under glibc with EPERM, because the mutex stores a different
owner tid than the duplicated thread in the child process. We
could make it work for locks acquired via pthread_atfork, by
recreating the mutex in the child instead of unlocking it
(we know that there are no other threads that could have taken
the mutex; but when the lock is acquired in fork's caller
that would not be possible.

The simplest solution is just to forgo error checking.

afb30dde3a util/uri: URI member path can be null, compare more carfully
uri_resolve_relative() calls strcmp(bas->path, ref->path).  However,
either argument could be null! Evidence: the code checks for null
after the comparison. Spotted by Coverity.

I suspect this was screwed up when we stole the code from libxml2.
There the conditional reads

    xmlStrEqual((xmlChar *)bas->path, (xmlChar *)ref->path)

with

    int
    xmlStrEqual(const xmlChar *str1, const xmlChar *str2) {
	if (str1 == str2) return(1);
	if (str1 == NULL) return(0);
	if (str2 == NULL) return(0);
	do {
	    if (*str1++ != *str2) return(0);
	} while (*str2++);
	return(1);
    }

Fix by replicating libxml2's logic faithfully.

7911747bd4 rcu: add rcu library
This includes a (mangled) copy of the liburcu code. The main changes
are: 1) removing dependencies on many other header files in liburcu; 2)
removing for simplicity the tentative busy waiting in synchronize_rcu,
which has limited performance effects; 3) replacing futexes in
synchronize_rcu with QemuEvents for Win32 portability. The API is
the same as liburcu, so it should be possible in the future to require
liburcu on POSIX systems for example and use our copy only on Windows.

Among the various versions available I chose urcu-mb, which is the
least invasive implementation even though it does not have the
fastest rcu_read_{lock,unlock} implementation. The urcu flavor can
be changed later, after benchmarking.

158ef8cbb7 qemu-thread: fix qemu_event without futexes
This had a possible deadlock that was visible with rcutorture.

    qemu_event_set                    qemu_event_wait
    ----------------------------------------------------------------
                                      cmpxchg reads FREE, writes BUSY
                                      futex_wait: pthread_mutex_lock
                                      futex_wait: value == BUSY
    xchg reads BUSY, writes SET

                                      <deadlock>

The fix is simply to avoid condvar tricks and do the obvious locking
around pthread_cond_broadcast:

    qemu_event_set        qemu_event_wait
    ----------------------------------------------------------------
                                      cmpxchg reads FREE, writes BUSY

ef57137f1b qemu-thread: add per-thread atexit functions
Destructors are the main additional feature of pthread TLS compared
to __thread. If we were using C++ (hint, hint!) we could have used
thread-local objects with a destructor. Since we are not, instead,
we add a simple Notifier-based API.

Note that the notifier must be per-thread as well. We can add a
global list as well later, perhaps.

The Win32 implementation has some complications because a) detached
threads used not to have a QemuThreadData; b) the main thread does
not go through win32_start_routine, so we have to use atexit too.

e1cf558264 util: Use g_new() & friends where that makes obvious sense
g_new(T, n) is neater than g_malloc(sizeof(T) * n).  It's also safer,

more type errors.

This commit only touches allocations with size arguments of the form

f5bebbbb28 util: Emancipate id_wellformed() from QemuOpts
IDs have long spread beyond QemuOpts: not everything with an ID
necessarily goes through QemuOpts. Commit 9aebf3b is about such a
case: block layer names are meant to be well-formed IDs, but some of
them don't go through QemuOpts, and thus weren't checked. The commit
fixed that the straightforward way: rename the internal QemuOpts
helper id_wellformed() to qemu_opts_id_wellformed() and give it
external linkage.

Instead of using it directly in block.c, the commit adds wrapper
bdrv_is_valid_name(), probably to hide the connection to QemuOpts.

Go one logical step further: emancipate IDs from QemuOpts. Rename the
function back to id_wellformed(), and put it in another file. While
there, clean up its value to bool. Peel off the bdrv_is_valid_name()
wrapper.

[Replaced stray return 0 with return false to match bool returns used
elsewhere in id_wellformed().

The QERR_ macros are leftovers from the days of "rich" error objects.
They're used with error_set() and qerror_report(), and expand into the
first *two* arguments. This trickiness has become pointless. Clean
up.

9aebf3b892 block: Validate node-name
The device_name of a BlockDriverState is currently checked because it is
always used as a QemuOpts ID and qemu_opts_create() checks whether such
IDs are wellformed.

node-name is supposed to share the same namespace, but it isn't checked
currently. This patch adds explicit checks both for device_name and
node-name so that the same rules will still apply even if QemuOpts won't
be used any more at some point.

qemu-img used to use names with spaces in them, which isn't allowed any
more. Replace them with underscores.

8287fea321 util/qemu-sockets.c: Support specifying IPv4 or IPv6 in socket_dgram()
Currently you can specify whether you want a UDP chardev backend
to be IPv4 or IPv6 using the ipv4 or ipv6 options if you use the
QemuOpts parsing code in inet_dgram_opts(). However the QMP struct
parsing code in socket_dgram() doesn't provide this flexibility
(which in turn prevents us from converting the UDP backend handling
to the new style QAPI framework).

Use the existing inet_addr_to_opts() function to convert the
remote->inet address to option strings; this handles ipv4 and
ipv6 flags as well as host and port. (It will also convert any
'to' specification, which is harmless as it is ignored in this
context.)

bb2eb1892d module: Don't complain when a module is absent
The current implementation depends on a configure-time generated list of
block modules. When any of them is absent, module_load() emits a warning.

This is suboptimal because extracting code to modules was mainly done to
allow separate packaging of modules with intrusive dependencies. Absence
of optional packages then leads to absence of modules and an error
message, which users may recognize as new and report as error.

The problem is apparently in the qemu_opts_append(). Well, if it
gets called twice or more. On the first call, when @dst is NULL
some initialization is done during which @dst->head list gets
initialized. The list is initialized in a way, so that the list
tail points at the list head. However, the next time
qemu_opts_append() is called for new options to be added,
g_realloc() may move @dst to a new address making the old list tail
point at an invalid address. If that's the case, we must update the
list pointers.

e637aa6647 w32: Fix regression caused by new g_poll implementation
Commit 5a007547df tried to fix a
performance degradation caused by bad handling of small timeouts
in the original implementation of g_poll.

Since that commit, hard disk I/O no longer works.

Instead of rewriting the g_poll implementation, this patch simply copies
the original code (released under LGPL) from latest glib and only modifies
it where needed (see comments in the code). URL of the original code:

98d896d978 QemuOpts: cleanup tmp 'allocated' member from QemuOptsList
Now only qemu_opts_append uses 'allocated' to indicate free memory.
For this function only, we can also let result list's (const char *)
members point to input list's members, only if the input list has
longer lifetime than result list. In current code, that is true.
So, we can remove the 'allocated' member from QemuOptsList definition
to keep code clean.

782730b0bc QemuOpts: add qemu_opt_get_*_del functions for replace work
Add qemu_opt_get_del, qemu_opt_get_bool_del, qemu_opt_get_number_del and
qemu_opt_get_size_del to replace the same handling of QEMUOptionParameter
(get and delete).

Several drivers are coded to parse a known subset of options, then
remove them from the list before handing all remaining options to a
second driver for further option processing. get_*_del makes it easier
to retrieve a known option (or its default) and remove it from the list
all in one action.

Share common helper function:

For qemu_opt_get_bool/size/number, they and their get_*_del counterpart
could share most of the code except whether or not deleting the opt from
option list, so generate common helper functions.

For qemu_opt_get and qemu_opt_get_del, keep code duplication, since
1. qemu_opt_get_del returns malloc'd memory while qemu_opt_get returns
in-place memory
2. qemu_opt_get_del returns (char *), qemu_opt_get returns (const char *),
and could not change to (char *), since in one case, it will return
desc->def_value_str, which is (const char *).

f9b5426fd5 util/qemu-sockets.c: Avoid unused variable warnings
The 'on' variable is never used, and 'off' is only used
if IPV6_V6ONLY is defined; delete 'on' and move 'off' to
the point where it is used. This avoids warnings from
clang 3.4.

13af91ebf0 throttle: add throttle_detach/attach_aio_context()
Block I/O throttling uses timers and currently always adds them to the
main loop. Throttling will break if bdrv_set_aio_context() is used to
move a BlockDriverState to a different AioContext.

This patch adds throttle_detach/attach_aio_context() interfaces so the
throttling timers and uses them to move timers to the new AioContext.
Note that bdrv_set_aio_context() already drains all requests so we're
sure no throttled requests are pending.

The test cases need to be updated since the throttle_init() interface
has changed.

After commit 767adce2d, they are redundant. This way we don't assign them

indentation was wrong:

     .fields = (VMStateField []) {
and
     .fields =      (VMStateField []) {

Change all the combinations to:

     .fields = (VMStateField[]){

The biggest problem (apart from aesthetics) was that checkpatch complained
when we copy&pasted the code from one place to another.

5a007547df glib: fix g_poll early timeout on windows
g_poll has a problem on Windows when using
timeouts < 10ms, in glib/gpoll.c:

/* If not, and we have a significant timeout, poll again with
 * timeout then. Note that this will return indication for only
 * one event, or only for messages. We ignore timeouts less than
 * ten milliseconds as they are mostly pointless on Windows, the
 * MsgWaitForMultipleObjectsEx() call will timeout right away
 * anyway.
 */
if (retval == 0 && (timeout == INFINITE || timeout >= 10))
  retval = poll_rest (poll_msgs, handles, nhandles, fds, nfds, timeout);

so whenever g_poll is called with timeout < 10ms it does
a quick poll instead of wait, this causes significant performance
degradation of QEMU, thus we should use WaitForMultipleObjectsEx
directly

2767ceec4e qemu-option: Clean up fragile use of error_is_set()
Using error_is_set(ERRP) to find out whether to bail out due to
previous error is either wrong, fragile, or unnecessarily opaque.
It's wrong when ERRP may be null, because errors go undetected when it
is. It's fragile when proving ERRP non-null involves a non-local
argument. Else, it's unnecessarily opaque (see commit 84d18f0).

The error_is_set(state->errp) in qemu_opts_from_qdict_1() is merely
fragile, because the callers never pass state argument with null
state->errp.

Make the code more robust and more obviously correct: test
*state->errp directly.

ae2990c259 osdep: initialize glib threads in all QEMU tools
glib versions prior to 2.31.0 require an explicit g_thread_init() call
to enable multi-threading.

Failure to initialize threading causes glib to take single-threaded code
paths without synchronization. For example, the g_slice allocator will
crash due to race conditions.

Fix this for all QEMU tool programs (qemu-nbd, qemu-io, qemu-img) by
moving the g_thread_init() call from vl.c:main() into a new
osdep.c:thread_init() constructor function.

thread_init() has __attribute__((constructor)) and is automatically
invoked by the runtime during startup.

We can now drop the "simple" trace backend's g_thread_init() call since
thread_init() already called it.

Note that we must keep coroutine-gthread.c's g_thread_init() call which
is located in a constructor function. There is no guarantee for
constructor function ordering so thread_init() may only be called later.

2da61b671e rfifolock: add recursive FIFO lock
QemuMutex does not guarantee fairness and cannot be acquired
recursively:

Fairness means each locker gets a turn and the scheduler cannot cause
starvation.

Recursive locking is useful for composition, it allows a sequence of
locking operations to be invoked atomically by acquiring the lock around
them.

This patch adds RFifoLock, a recursive lock that guarantees FIFO order.
Its first user is added in the next patch.

RFifoLock has one additional feature: it can be initialized with an
optional contention callback. The callback is invoked whenever a thread
must wait for the lock. For example, it can be used to poke the current
owner so that they release the lock soon.

e26110cfc6 module: implement module loading
This patch adds loading, stamp checking and initialization of modules.

The init function of dynamic module is no longer directly called as
__attribute__((constructor)) in static linked version, it is called
only after passed the checking of presense of stamp symbol:

    qemu_stamp_$RELEASEHASH

where $RELEASEHASH is generated by hashing version strings and content
of configure script.

With this, modules built from a different tree/version/configure will
not be loaded.

The module loading code requires gmodule-2.0.

Modules are searched under
 - CONFIG_MODDIR
 - executable folder (to allow running qemu-{img,io} in the build
   directory)
 - ../ of executable folder (to allow running system emulator in the
   build directory)

Modules are linked under their subdir respectively, then copied to top
level of build directory for above convinience, e.g.:
    $(BUILD_DIR)/block/curl.so -> $(BUILD_DIR)/block-curl.so

d32934c84c error: Don't use error_report() for assertion msgs.
Use fprintf(stderr instead. This removes dependency of libqemuutil.a
on the monitor.

We can further justify this change, in that this code path should only
trigger under a fatal error condition. fprintf-stderr is probably the
appropriate medium as under a fatal error conidition the monitor itself
may be down and out for the count. So assertion failure messages should
go lowest common denominator - straight to stderr.
