- STEP 2: Mandatory bloat validation checklist before writing code
- Checks: protocol-driven design, no heavy impls in core SDK, no duplication,
proper Agent inheritance, lazy imports, no agent.py growth, no name collisions
- If checks fail: close issue with explanation instead of creating bad PRs
- Strengthen attribute access guards in code execution sandbox
- Parameterize SQL IN clauses in data layer
- Add URL scheme validation for API base URLs
- Use plain string matching instead of regex for tool search

Closes#1131#1132
Updated logger level settings to use consistent DEBUG and WARNING levels
based on the verbosity of the application. This enhances logging clarity
and ensures that third-party loggers are set to WARNING by default.
Adjusted imports to maintain consistent logging behavior across various
modules for better maintainability. Additionally, bumped version in
pyproject.toml to 1.5.89.
- Introduced a new agent for cross-posting on multiple social media platforms with required environment variables.
- Added a video generation example using HeyGen and ElevenLabs, demonstrating autonomous video production.
- Created YAML workflow for sequential multi-agent processing in video generation.
- Updated several test files to accommodate new features and examples.
## Critical Fixes:
- **agent.py (IndentationError)**: Removed 137 lines of orphaned MCP code (lines 8849-8983)
that caused an IndentationError on import, completely breaking the SDK. This was
dead code from a bad merge — partially commented out code with live import statements.
- **python_tools.py (Sandbox)**: Fixed subprocess sandbox that was too restrictive:
- Added missing builtins: getattr, ValueError, TypeError, KeyError, etc.
- Added __build_class__ for function/class definition support
- Fixed exec() to use shared globals so defined functions can see each other
- Added _safe_getattr wrapper in subprocess for defense-in-depth dunder blocking
- **circuit_breaker.py**: Fixed reset_all() to clear registry entries (not just reset state)
## Test Fixes:
- test_circuit_breaker.py: Fixed success_threshold mismatch, added setup/teardown cleanup
- test_tools_reliability.py: Fixed psutil mock injection for lazy-imported modules
- test_python_tools_sandbox.py: Updated security test expectations for sandbox mode
- Added __init__.py files to 13 test subdirectories for pytest module resolution
## Metrics:
- agent.py: 9053 → 8916 lines (-137 lines of dead code)
- Import time: 67.5ms (well under 200ms target)
- Unit tests: 4473 passed, 50 skipped (7 pre-existing failures)
- Add lightweight CircuitBreaker class with open/half-open/closed states
- Integrate with existing retry utilities in tools/retry.py
- Add health monitoring and graceful degradation support
- Provide integration helpers for LLM, Memory, and MCP systems
- Include comprehensive tests with real agentic test

Fixes issue #1128 by systematically replacing problematic exception
handling patterns that were masking real errors and making debugging
extremely difficult.
Changes:
- Replace bare 'except:' clauses with 'except Exception:' to avoid
catching SystemExit/KeyboardInterrupt
- Add structured debug logging for all previously silent exceptions
- Maintain backward compatibility and zero performance impact
- Focus on core SDK modules: memory, tools, LLM, telemetry
Key areas fixed:
- Memory operations: Now log failed tracing and cleanup operations
- Telemetry: Debug logging for PostHog failures and queue errors
- LLM client: Debug logging for cost calculation and display failures
- Tools: Debug logging for browser checks and capability detection
- Code execution: Debug logging for temp file cleanup failures
All exception handling now provides context for debugging while
maintaining the fail-safe behavior required for production use.

Bot PR chain: trigger CodeRabbit + Qodo + Gemini → they post reviews →
copilot-after-coderabbit/qodo fires → Copilot reviews → Claude chains.
Copilot is NEVER triggered directly for bot PRs anymore. It waits
for upstream reviewers to finish first.
CodeRabbit and Qodo skip bot-authored PRs by default, breaking the
entire review chain (no reviews → no Copilot → no Claude).
Added bot-pr-review-chain job that fires on PR opened by
github-actions[bot] and directly triggers @coderabbitai, /review,
and @copilot.
Root .gitignore line 22 has 'output' which was excluding the
praisonaiagents/output/ module from git. This caused Windows CI
ModuleNotFoundError: No module named 'praisonaiagents.output.models'
Added gitignore exemption and force-added the missing files.
Was checking for 'copilot-swe-agent' but actual PR reviewer
posts as 'copilot-pull-request-reviewer[bot]'. This is why
Claude's final review was never triggered after Copilot.
Root cause: issues created with '--label claude' triggered both
'issues:opened' and 'issues:labeled' events in claude.yml.
Fix: remove 'opened' from claude.yml triggers (only fire on label).
Also: auto-issue-comment.yml skips if 'claude' label already exists.
Claude was only providing PR links instead of creating them.
CLAUDE.md is auto-read by claude-code-action and instructs Claude
to always use 'gh pr create' to create PRs automatically.
Root cause: PR #1170 had no Coderabbit review, so Copilot/Claude
were never triggered. Now fires after either reviewer, with dedup
check to prevent double @copilot comments.
Added detailed sections in README for using YAML with agents, including
two comprehensive examples illustrating agent collaboration and custom
tools. Updated AGENTS.md to reflect CLI and YAML parity, and emphasized
the requirement for real agentic tests in the implementation checklist.
- auto-pr-comment.yml: posts @copilot immediately on PR open
- auto-issue-comment.yml: posts @copilot immediately on issue open
- chain-claude-after-copilot.yml: watches for copilot-swe-agent comment,

- Saves ~16 min of wasted runner time per PR
- auto-pr-comment.yml: Copilot at T+6min (bloat guard), Claude at T+17min (final reviewer)
- auto-issue-comment.yml: Copilot triages first, Claude implements fix after

#1134: Decouple execute_code from optional deps (black/pylint/autopep8)
- execute_code is now a standalone module-level function
- PythonTools class retained for analyze/format/lint (lazy-init)
- Agents can now use execute_code without heavy optional deps
#1129: Thread-safety for remaining global mutable state
- Add _lazy_import_lock with double-checked locking for all 6 lazy-import

- Add _env_cache_lock for class-level env var caches
(_env_output_mode, _default_model)
#1137: Clarify misleading TODO comment
- Updated TODO in llm.py to clarify this is code-level DRY, not
duplicate API calls per request
- Reject empty strings, keys containing "=" or NUL in _validate_env_key()

- Validate root config is a dict after yaml.safe_load() (handles list/scalar/None)
- Validate deployment section is a dict before .get() calls
- Both raise ValueError caught by the existing handler → clean CLI error
- Add test_malformed_env_keys_rejected, test_non_dict_root_config_rejected,
test_non_dict_deployment_rejected (7 tests total, all passing)
Extract ~120 lines of duplicated approval code from _execute_tool_impl()

The --schedule-config YAML file allows setting arbitrary environment
variables via the "environment" section. An attacker who can supply or
modify this file could set keys like LD_PRELOAD, PATH, PYTHONPATH, etc.
to achieve arbitrary code execution.
Add _validate_env_key() with a blocklist of security-sensitive env var
names (dynamic linker, search paths, proxies) and call it before each
os.environ assignment in the schedule-config loading path.
Also add unit tests for the validation function.
- Replace hardcoded CHAINLIT_AUTH_SECRET with secrets.token_hex(32) fallback in all 5 UI files
(agents.py, bot.py, chat.py, code.py, realtime.py) — secret was public in git history
- Use hmac.compare_digest() for constant-time API key comparison in recipe/serve.py
- Disable debug=True by default in deploy.py generated api.py; use DEBUG env var
- Restrict exec() __builtins__ to safe subset in job_workflow.py inline Python execution;
prevents __import__('os').system() and similar arbitrary code execution patterns
Skipped shell=True changes (would break YAML run: steps with pipes/env vars) and
CORS wildcard changes (would break browser extension without env var migration path).
These require separate architectural discussion.
- Replace eval(e) in unified_server.py with AST-based safe math evaluator
- Replace exec(script_content) in run_with_langtrace.py with subprocess.run()

MODEL_WINDOWS had two entries for gpt-4o-mini and none for gpt-4o.
The first entry was clearly intended to be gpt-4o based on context.
This meant gpt-4o users got no context window match, potentially
causing suboptimal chunking or fallback behavior.

When an agent is created with instructions but no explicit name, and
memory history is enabled, name can be None. Calling .encode() on None
raises AttributeError. Fall back to "agent" when name is None.

gateway module, allowing easier access without needing wrapper imports.
- Enhance SessionData to include gateway session ID and agent ID.
- Introduce methods in DefaultSessionStore for querying sessions by agent
and linking sessions to gateway sessions.
Introduced new YAML workflow examples demonstrating agent-centric steps
and hybrid workflows. The agent-centric job workflow supports roles
like Technical Writer and includes quality checks, while the hybrid
workflow combines deterministic steps with multi-agent coordination.
Updated version to 1.5.26 for the praisonai-agents package.
Added examples for file-based actions (line count and system info)
and YAML-defined actions in new workflow files. Updated relevant
files to support these actions, enhancing the capabilities for
custom workflows. Updated package version to 1.5.25.
run_skill_script executes arbitrary .py/.sh/.js scripts via subprocess.run
without any approval gate. Add @require_approval(risk_level='critical') to
both the class method and module-level wrapper, matching the pattern used
by shell_tools and python_tools.

## How It Works
1. User sends message -> stored in SessionStore
2. Queue submission includes chat_history from SessionStore
3. Worker injects chat_history into Agent.chat_history
4. Agent has full conversation context
5. Response stored back in SessionStore
## Verified

31 tests passing
## Scrollbar Fix (VerticalScroll)
- ChatWidget now inherits from VerticalScroll (not ScrollableContainer)
- Messages mount directly to container (removed inner Vertical)
- scroll_end() called after adding messages and during streaming
- CSS has overflow-y: auto for proper scrollbar display
## Non-Blocking Input (@work decorator)
- Message submission uses run_worker() for background execution
- _process_message_submission decorated with @work
- User can type while agent is processing
- Multiple messages can be queued
## Root Causes Fixed
1. Inner Vertical container had overflow:hidden - removed it
2. Message handler was async blocking - now uses worker pattern
Based on Textual documentation:
- VerticalScroll: container with vertical layout and auto Y scrollbar
- @work decorator: runs coroutine in background without blocking UI
31 tests passing

- Fix#1: MemoryConfig Pydantic validation - add _prepare_mem0_config() to strip
PraisonAI-specific reranker fields (enabled, default_rerank) before passing to
mem0, which only accepts provider and config fields
- Fix#2: LLM Reranker 'Chat' object not callable - check if client.chat is
callable, not just if it exists. OpenAI client has chat as namespace object.

- test_mini_agents_fix.py: Convert module-level sys.exit(1) to pytest.mark.skipif pattern
- test_xai_fix.py: Convert to proper pytest test function with cleanup
These sys.exit() calls at module level caused pytest to crash during test collection
with INTERNALERROR, breaking all CI pipelines.
- Check for @pytest.mark.integration marker
- Check if test file is in integration/ directory
- This prevents conftest from overriding real API keys with 'test-key'
- Check for 'sk-' prefix and minimum length (40 chars) to detect invalid keys
- This ensures tests are skipped when using placeholder/test API keys in CI
- test_auto_generator_integration.py: Skip when OPENAI_API_KEY contains 'test'
- test_model_routing_real.py: Skip test_real_openai_call when using test key

- Bump PraisonAI version to 2.3.28 across Dockerfiles and deployment scripts.
- Update praisonaiagents version to 0.1.7 in pyproject.toml.
- Enhance README with a structured Table of Contents and improved section headers for better navigation.
- Remove outdated README.md from praisonai-agents and link to the main README.
The action/description field from YAML was being stored on the agent but not
used when executing the workflow. Now the _normalize_single_step method
checks for _yaml_action and uses it as the prompt.
This fixes the issue where workflow steps were not using the action as the prompt.
- Add canonical field name suggestions to CLI validate command
- Document A-I-G-S mnemonic (Agents, Instructions, Goal, Steps)
- Add field name reference table to README
- Add comprehensive tests for field name normalization
- Accept both old and new names: roles/agents, backstory/instructions, description/action, topic/name
Implements 'Accept liberally, suggest canonically' principle
- Add WorkflowAutoGenerator class in auto.py with lazy loading
- Support sequential, routing, parallel, loop patterns
- Add 'praisonai workflow auto' CLI command
- Add action_auto to WorkflowHandler
- Add _auto_generate_workflow to main.py
- Uses instructor for structured output generation
- Lazy loading ensures no performance impact when not used
Usage:
praisonai workflow auto "Research AI trends" --pattern parallel
praisonai workflow auto "Build a chatbot" --pattern routing
- Remove duplicate _convert_roles_to_agents from agents_generator.py
(YAMLWorkflowParser already handles this conversion)
- Refactor _create_workflow_from_template in main.py to use
WorkflowHandler.TEMPLATES instead of duplicating templates
This reduces code duplication and ensures single source of truth for:
1. Roles-to-agents conversion logic (in yaml_parser.py)
2. Workflow templates (in workflow.py)
- Add workflow detection in agents_generator.py (process: workflow)
- Route to YAMLWorkflowParser when workflow mode detected
- Support both 'roles' and 'agents' keys for backward compatibility
- Map 'backstory' to 'instructions' automatically
- Add _convert_roles_to_agents method in YAMLWorkflowParser
- Add _run_yaml_workflow method in AgentsGenerator
- Add 7 new tests for roles-to-agents conversion
- Add extended agents.yaml example with all workflow patterns
- Update README with extended agents.yaml documentation
This allows users to use advanced workflow patterns (route, parallel,
loop, repeat) directly in agents.yaml while maintaining full backward
compatibility with existing agents.yaml files.
Usage:
praisonai agents.yaml # Works for both standard and workflow mode
- test_runner.py: Add '-m not real' to exclude tests requiring API keys when running 'all' pattern
- test_cli_features.py: Fix test_session_get_actions to match actual SessionHandler.get_actions() implementation (list, show, resume, delete instead of start)
- Add branching support with next_steps and branch_condition fields

- Refactor workflow
- Add inline workflow examples (--workflow 'step1,step2')
- Add planning mode example (--planning)
- Add tools and save examples (--tools, --save)
- Update to use global flags instead of workflow-specific flags
Before: --planning flag was stored but never used, agent.chat() was called
After: --planning flag creates agent with planning=True and calls agent.start()
The agent.start() method checks if planning is enabled and calls
_start_with_planning() which:
1. Creates a plan using PlanningAgent
2. Displays the generated plan
3. Executes each step with context passing
4. Compiles results into final output
BREAKING CHANGE: Removed workflow-specific flags in favor of global flags
Before:
praisonai workflow run 'name' --workflow-tools tavily --workflow-save --workflow-verbose
After:
praisonai workflow run 'name' --tools tavily --save --verbose
This simplifies the CLI by reusing existing global flags:
- --llm (instead of --workflow-llm)
- --tools (instead of --workflow-tools)
- --planning (instead of --workflow-planning)
- --memory (instead of --workflow-memory)
- --save (instead of --workflow-save)
- --verbose (instead of --workflow-verbose)
Only --workflow-var remains workflow-specific for variable substitution.
- Add --workflow-llm for LLM model selection
- Add --workflow-tools for tools (comma-separated)
- Add --workflow-planning for planning mode
- Add --workflow-memory for memory support

Fixes the persistent issue where Agent(metrics=True) showed 0 tokens
despite the LLM instance access fix in PR #1064.
Root Cause:
- Agent.metrics=True was stored but never passed to LLM constructor
- LLM class had token tracking capability but no way to enable it
- Token collector received no data because LLM didn''t track tokens
Solution:
- Pass metrics=self.metrics to all 4 LLM constructor calls in agent.py
- Add self.metrics property to LLM class from extra_settings
- Only track tokens when self.metrics=True in _track_token_usage()
Verified:
- All LLM creation patterns (string, dict, provider/model) work
- Agent(metrics=True) properly enables LLM token tracking
- Zero performance impact when metrics=False (default)

Address performance bottlenecks identified in issue #1057:
1. **Early exit optimizations**: Add environment variable checks at the start of
instrumentation functions to avoid all overhead when telemetry is disabled
2. **Thread pool optimization**: Replace individual thread creation with a
reusable ThreadPoolExecutor to reduce thread creation overhead (5-10ms per call)
3. **Flow analysis optimization**: Limit analysis to 1000 most recent events
instead of processing up to 10,000 events to avoid O(n²) complexity
4. **Performance monitoring controls**: Add PRAISONAI_PERFORMANCE_DISABLED
environment variable to disable performance monitoring separately from telemetry
5. **No-op optimizations**: Make monitoring decorators and context managers
return unmodified functions/no-op when disabled to eliminate runtime overhead

The remote branch already implements a more comprehensive solution using
threading at the integration level, which addresses the streaming pause issue
more thoroughly than the async_mode parameter approach.
Remote changes include:
- All telemetry tracking made asynchronous using background threads
- Special handling for streaming generators in agent.start()
- Better error handling with try/catch blocks
- Maintains the async_mode parameter in telemetry.py for future use
Resolves streaming pause issue #1031
- Make telemetry tracking asynchronous in all agent methods (chat, start, run)
- For streaming responses, defer telemetry tracking until after generator consumption
- Use separate daemon threads to prevent blocking on PostHog capture calls
- Add comprehensive test script to verify fix works
- Fixes issue where ~20 second pause occurred after ''execution tracked: success=True''
This resolves the streaming performance issue where telemetry calls were
blocking the start of streaming responses, causing users to wait before
seeing any output when using agent.start() with stream=True.

- Add proper knowledge search and tool handling for OpenAI path
- Use _build_messages helper for consistent message formatting
- Yield raw chunks without display function interference
- Add robust error handling with chat history rollback

This commit addresses live display context issues by moving detailed content
from user-facing prompts to debug logging while maintaining functionality:
- agents.py line 653: Memory context now logged via logger.debug() with
brief user-facing note in prompt instead of full content
- agents.py line 84: Previous task results logged via logger.debug() with
brief completion status returned instead of full raw content
- task.py line 406: Previous task results logged via logger.debug() with
brief completion message appended instead of full raw content
- memory.py: Memory section headers now use brief titles with item counts
and log detailed content via logger.debug() instead of showing full content
These changes maintain backward compatibility and functionality while
improving user experience by reducing verbose output in live displays.
Detailed information remains available through debug logging for debugging
and troubleshooting purposes.

- Resolves issue #901🤖 Generated with [Claude Code](https://claude.ai/code)
Co-authored-by: Mervin Praison <[email protected]>
Refactor tools parameter initialization to better handle falsy values while
maintaining single function support. Changed from explicit None check to
using ''tools or []'' pattern, which properly handles all falsy values
(None, False, 0, "", etc.) without breaking existing functionality.
This resolves backward compatibility regression where falsy values other
than None were not handled correctly in the tools parameter.

The validation error was occurring because the LLM was generating tasks as simple strings instead of proper TaskConfig objects. This commit updates the prompt in the _generate_config method to:
1. Include an explicit JSON schema example showing the correct structure
2. Add a clear warning that tasks must be objects with specific fields
3. Provide a concrete example of the task object structure
This ensures tasks are generated with the required fields: name, description, expected_output, and tools.

This fix ensures that handoff tools can access the current user message
during execution. Previously, chat_history was updated after the LLM call,

- Custom LLM path
- Standard OpenAI client path
This maintains backward compatibility while fixing the handoff functionality.

Fixes#620
Co-authored-by: Mervin Praison <[email protected]>
Previously, when agents were integrated into the chatbot UI, only the last
tool in the tools list was available due to the agent.tools assignment
being inside the tool loading loop. This caused the tools to be overwritten
on each iteration.
This commit moves the tool assignment outside the loop, ensuring all tools
are collected before being assigned to the agent. This fixes the issue
where custom tools were not working properly in the chatbot context while
maintaining full backward compatibility.

**STEP 2: If Code Changes Are Needed**
MANDATORY FIRST STEP: Before writing any code, you MUST use `read_file` to carefully read "src/praisonai-agents/AGENTS.md". You must honor this repository's extremely specific Architecture, Protocol-First design rules, and Agent-Centric Philosophy!
**CRITICAL: When making code modifications, follow this EXACT workflow:**
**STEP 1: Analyze the PR**
- Use: `echo "$PR_DATA"` to get PR details (JSON format)
- Use: `echo "$CHANGED_FILES"` to get changed files list
- Use: `gh pr diff ${PR_NUMBER}` to see the full diff
- Use: `gh pr view ${PR_NUMBER} --json title, body, headRefName` to get PR info
- Analyze the code changes thoroughly
