76771afe22 The issue with the malformed-machos 00000031.a test is that it needed ‘-arch x86_64’
flag as it was a Mach-O universal file.

The default as to which architecture slice that is dumped without an -arch flag
depends on the host architecture and the contents of the universal file. The
malformed archive 00000031.a file has both an x86_64 and i386 slice. So for
for x86_64 hosts only that slice is dumped, for non-x86_64 hosts, which is many
of the bots both slices are dumped.

The test is intended to only check that the malformation of the x86_64 which
has a non-decimal characters in the size field of the archive header so it no
longer crashes.

The problem turned out that the i388 slice of the malformed archive had a
different malformation which was causing the non-x86_64 bots to get this error:

llvm-objdump -macho -disassemble -arch i386 00000031.a
Archive : .00000031.a
00000031.a(c_start.o):
LLVM ERROR: Symbol name entry points before beginning or past end of file.

and causing the test as it was written to fail. So by adding ‘-arch x86_64’ it
should correct the test and the malformation on the i388 slice will not be
dumped.

Also the removal of the malformed-machos mem-crup-0261.macho was not causing
the issue so that is put back in.

Sorry for the churn on these tests, Kev

50072bfa3e Add inline stack streaming to binary sample profiles.
With this patch we can now read and write inline stacks in sample
profiles to the binary encoded profiles.

In a subsequent patch, I will add a string table to the binary encoding.
Right now function names are emitted as strings every time we find them.
This is too bloated and will produce large files in applications with
lots of inlining.

3bc8dc3685 Re-apply r249644: Handle inline stacks in gcov-encoded sample profiles.
This fixes memory allocation problems by making the merge operation keep
the profile readers around until the merged profile has been emitted.
This is needed to prevent the inlined function names to disappear from
the function profiles. Since all the names are kept as references, once
the reader disappears, the names are also deallocated.

Additionally, XFAIL on big-endian architectures. The test case uses a
gcov file generated on a little-endian system.

6fd08c8868 Handle inline stacks in gcov-encoded sample profiles.
This patch adds support for reading sample profiles with inline stacks.
Inline stacks in a profile are generated when the sampled binary has
samples in inlined functions.

For instance, if main() calls foo() and foo() calls bar(), and bar() is
inlined into foo() and foo() inlined into main(), the profile may look
something like:

main total:364084 head:0
  [ ... ]
  2.3: _Z3fool total:243786
    1: 60149
    1.2: 38568
    1.4: 46511
    1.7: _Z3bari total:98558
      1.1: 52672
      1.2: 45886

At line 2, discriminator 3, main() calls foo(). In turn, foo() calls
bar() at line 1, discriminator 7.

In the textual format, this stacking of inline calls is represented
with indentation.

With this change, LLVM can now read sample profile files generated by
the create_gcov tool from https://github.com/google/autofdo.

23090caf75 Fix two bugs in llvm-objdump’s printing of Objective-C meta data
from malformed Mach-O files that caused crashes.

We recently got about 700 malformed Mach-O files which we have
been using the improve the robustness of tools that deal with reading
data from object files. These resulted in about 20 small bug fixes to
the darwin based tools.

The goal here is to also improve the robustness of llvm-objdump and
this is the first two fixes. In talking with Tim Northover the approach
we thought might be best is to:

1) Only include tests for the malformed Mach-O files that cause crashes
(not all 700+ tests).
2) The test should only contain the command line option that caused the
crash and not all the others that don’t matter.
3) There should be only one line for the FileCheck that is past the point
of the crash if possible and if possible indicates the malformation.

Again the goal is to fix crashes and not so much care about how the
printing of malformed data comes out.

Tim also suggested if we really wanted to add test cases for all 700+
malformed Mach-O files putting them in the regression tests might be
an option. But many of these do not cause crashes.

The first customer is ThinLTO, however the data structures are designed
and named more generally based on prior feedback. There are a few
comments regarding how certain interfaces are used by ThinLTO, and the
options added here to gold currently have ThinLTO-specific names as the
behavior they provoke is currently ThinLTO-specific.

This patch includes support for generating per-module function indexes,
the combined index file via the gold plugin, and several tests
(more are included with the associated clang patch D11908).

c9736fba4b [llvm-pdbdump] Add include-only filters.
PDB files have a lot of noise in them, with hundreds (or thousands)
of symbols from system libraries and compiler generated types. If
you're only looking for a specific type, this can be problematic.

This CL allows you to display *only* types, variables, or compilands
matching a particular pattern. These filters can even be combined
with exclude filters. Include-only filters are given priority, so
that first the set of items to display is limited only to those that
match the include filters, and then the set of exclude filters is
applied to those. If there are no include filters specified, then
it means "display everything".

In this case, said "target independent" tests in the test suite that are using
the default triple are disabled by matching the newly available feature
"default_triple".

This is a follow up to r247518.
As a general note, I think we could do a much better job testing for

but while implementing this I noticed that the code coverage we have
for error checking is pretty low. I can arbitrarily remove checks from
several tools and the suite still passes.

5f69f9fb81 [dsymutil] Discard useless location attributes.
When cloning the debug info for a function that hasn't been linked,
strip the DIEs from all location attributes that wouldn't contain any
meaningful information anyway.

This kind of situation can happen when a function got discarded by the
linker, but its debug information is still wanted in the final link
because it was marked as required as some other DIE dependency. The easiest
way to get into that situation is to have using directives. They get
linked unconditionally, but their targets might not always be present.

ef8ad01b02 Reapply r246012 [dsymutil] Emit real dSYM companion binaries.
With a fix for big endian machines. Thanks to Daniel Sanders for the debugging!

Original commit message:

The binaries containing the linked DWARF generated by dsymutil are not
standard relocatable object files like emitted did previsously. They should be
dSYM companion files, which means they have a different file type in the
header, but also a couple other peculiarities:
 - they contain the segments and sections from the original binary in their
load commands, but not the actual contents. This means they get an address
and a size, but their offset is always 0 (but these are not virtual sections)
 - they also conatin all the defined symbols from the original binary

This makes MC a really bad fit to emit these kind of binaries. The approach
that was used in this patch is to leverage MC's section layout for the
debug sections, but to use a replacement for MachObjectWriter that lives
in MachOUtils.cpp. Some of the low-level helpers from MachObjectWriter
were reused too.

a5ae7c1c9f DI: Require subprogram definitions to be distinct
As a follow-up to r246098, require `DISubprogram` definitions
(`isDefinition: true`) to be 'distinct'. Specifically, add an assembler
check, a verifier check, and bitcode upgrading logic to combat testcase
bitrot after the `DIBuilder` change.

While working on the testcases, I realized that
test/Linker/subprogram-linkonce-weak-odr.ll isn't relevant anymore.  Its
purpose was to check for a corner case in PR22792 where two subprogram
definitions match exactly and share the same metadata node. The new
verifier check, requiring that subprogram definitions are 'distinct',
precludes that possibility.

I updated almost all the IR with the following script:

    git grep -l -E -e '= !DISubprogram\(.* isDefinition: true' |
    grep -v test/Bitcode |
    xargs sed -i '' -e 's/= \(!DISubprogram(.*, isDefinition: true\)/= distinct \1/'

Likely some variant of would work for out-of-tree testcases.

af511be69a [dsymutil] Implement dSYM bundle creation
A dSYM bundle is a file hierarchy that looks slike this:
 <bundle name>.dSYM/
     Contents/
        Info.plist
        Resources/
           DWARF/
              <DWARF file(s)>

This is the default output mode of dsymutil.

e88f2f375e [dsymutil] Add (unimplemented) --flat option
dsymutil should by default generate dSYM bundles which are filesystem
hierarchies containing the debug info and an additional Info.plist.
Currently llvm-dsymutil emits raw binaries containing the debug info.
This is what we call the 'flat mode'. Add a -f/-flat option that is
supposed to enable that flat mode, but don't wire it for now, only
pass it to the tests that will need it to stay functional once we
do bundle generation by default.
This basically makes this commit NFC and removes the noise from the
actual commit that adds support for bundle generation.

f4fa49e750 COFF: Assign the correct symbol type to internal functions.
The COFFSymbolRef::isFunctionDefinition() function tests for several conditions
that are not related to whether a symbol is a function, but rather whether
the symbol meets the requirements for a function definition auxiliary record,
which excludes certain symbols such as internal functions and undefined
references. The test we need to determine the symbol type is much simpler:
we only need to compare the complex type against IMAGE_SYM_DTYPE_FUNCTION.

349b419025 Revert "Make sure all temporary files get created under %T."
This reverts commit r244163. The workaround shouldn't be necessary
after r244172, and moreover the commit was slightly buggy as it
dis a simple mkdir without removing the directory first, which could
cause 'File exists' errors.

7a4257861d [dsymutil] Implement support for handling mach-o universal binaries as main input/output.
The DWARF linker isn't touched by this, the implementation links
individual files and merges them together into a fat binary by
calling out to the 'lipo' utility.

The main change is that the MachODebugMapParser can now return
multiple debug maps for a single binary.

The test just verifies that lipo would be invoked correctly, but
doesn't actually generate a binary. This mimics the way clang
tests its external iplatform tools integration.

c61bc48acb DI: Disallow uniquable DICompileUnits
Since r241097, `DIBuilder` has only created distinct `DICompileUnit`s.
The backend is liable to start relying on that (if it hasn't already),
so make uniquable `DICompileUnit`s illegal and automatically upgrade old
bitcode. This is a nice cleanup, since we can remove an unnecessary
`DenseSet` (and the associated uniquing info) from `LLVMContextImpl`.

Almost all the testcases were updated with this script:

    git grep -e '= !DICompileUnit' -l -- test |
    grep -v test/Bitcode |
    xargs sed -i '' -e 's,= !DICompileUnit,= distinct !DICompileUnit,'

I imagine something similar should work for out-of-tree testcases.

bf2040f00c DI: Remove DW_TAG_arg_variable and DW_TAG_auto_variable
Remove the fake `DW_TAG_auto_variable` and `DW_TAG_arg_variable` tags,
using `DW_TAG_variable` in their place Stop exposing the `tag:` field at
all in the assembly format for `DILocalVariable`.

Most of the testcase updates were generated by the following sed script:

    find test/ -name "*.ll" -o -name "*.mir" |
    xargs grep -l 'DILocalVariable' |
    xargs sed -i '' \
      -e 's/tag: DW_TAG_arg_variable, //' \
      -e 's/tag: DW_TAG_auto_variable, //'

There were only a handful of tests in `test/Assembly` that I needed to
update by hand.

(Note: a follow-up could change `DILocalVariable::DILocalVariable()` to
set the tag to `DW_TAG_formal_parameter` instead of `DW_TAG_variable`
(as appropriate), instead of having that logic magically in the backend
in `DbgVariable`. I've added a FIXME to that effect.)

fa7f7bd017 [dsymutil] Implement support for universal mach-o object files.
This patch allows llvm-dsymutil to read universal (aka fat) macho object
files and archives. The patch touches nearly everything in the BinaryHolder,
but it is fairly mechinical: the methods that returned MemoryBufferRefs or
ObjectFiles now return a vector of those, and the high-level access function
takes a triple argument to select the architecture.

There is no support yet for handling fat executables and thus no support for
writing fat object files.

309fcf84b8 [dsymutil] Implement ODR uniquing for C++ code.
This optimization allows the DWARF linker to reuse definition of
types it has emitted in previous CUs rather than reemitting them
in each CU that references them. The size and link time gains are
huge. For example when linking the DWARF for a debug build of
clang, this generates a ~150M dwarf file instead of a ~700M one
(the numbers date back a bit and must not be totally accurate
these days).

As with all the other parts of the llvm-dsymutil codebase, the
goal is to keep bit-for-bit compatibility with dsymutil-classic.
The code is littered with a lot of FIXMEs that should be
addressed once we can get rid of the compatibilty goal.

11fcb49922 [Object] Search for architecures by name in MachOUniversalBinary::getObjectForArch()
The reason we need to search by name rather than by Triple::ArchType
is to handle subarchitecture correclty. There is no different ArchType
for the x86_64h architecture (it identifies itself as x86_64), or for
the various ARM subarches. The only way to get to the subarch slice
in an universal binary is to search by name.

This issue led to hard to debug and transient symbolication failures
in Asan tests (it mostly works, because the files are very similar).

This also affects the Profiling infrastucture as it is the other user
of that API.

28b186f3cc Improve the --expand-relocs handling of MachO.
In a relocation target can take 3 basic forms

* A r_value in scattered relocations.
* A symbol in external relocations.
* A section is non-external relocations.

Have the dump reflect that. With this change we go from

CHECK-NEXT:       Extern: 0
CHECK-NEXT:       Type: X86_64_RELOC_SUBTRACTOR (5)
CHECK-NEXT:       Symbol: 0x2
CHECK-NEXT:       Scattered: 0

To just

// CHECK-NEXT:       Type: X86_64_RELOC_SUBTRACTOR (5)
// CHECK-NEXT:       Section: __data (2)

Since the relocation is with a section, we print the seciton name and don't
need to say that it is not scattered or external.

Someone motivated can add further special cases for things like
ARM64_RELOC_ADDEND and ARM_RELOC_PAIR.

9ccf07fb89 [dsymutil] Add support for linking the debug_frame section.
Linking the debug frame section is actually very easy as we just have to
patch the start address in the FDE header and then copy the rest of the
FDE without even looking at it. The only small complexity comes from the
handling of the CIEs that we should unique across object file. This is
also really easy by using a StringMap keyed on the raw contents of the
CIE.

dfbf8971ca [dsymutil] Have the YAML deserialization rewrite the object address of symbols.
The main use of the YAML debug map format is for testing inside LLVM. If we have IR
files in the tests used to generate object files, then we obviously don't know the
addresses of the symbols inside the object files beforehand.

This change lets the YAML import lookup the addresses in the object files and rewrite
them. This will allow to have test that really don't need any binary input.

696c93c900 Reapply r238941 - [dsymutil] Accept a YAML debug map as input instead of a binary.
With a couple more constructors that GCC thinks are necessary.

Original commit message:

[dsymutil] Accept a YAML debug map as input instead of a binary.

To do this, the user needs to pass the new -y flag.
As it wasn't tested before, the debug map YAML deserialization was
completely buggy (mainly because the DebugMapObject has a dual
mapping that allows to search by name and by address, but only the
StringMap got populated). It's fixed and tested in this commit by
augmenting some test with a 2 stage dwarf link: a frist llvm-dsymutil
reads the debug map and pipes it in a second instance that does the
actual link without touching the initial binary.

7745dac9d0 [dsymutil] Replace -parse-only option with -dump-debug-map
As the serialized debug map is becoming a first class citizen, a way
to cleanly dump it is required. We used -parse-only combined with
-v for that purpose before, but it dumps a lot of unrelated debug
stuff. Dumping the debug map was the only use of the -parse-only flag
anyway, so replace it with a more useful option.

no need to check-in a binary containing the debug map and 2/ it will allow
to use the same objects/IR files with made-up debug-maps to test
different scenari.

7b677dd986 Stop inventing symbol sizes.
MachO and COFF quite reasonably only define the size for common symbols.

We used to try to figure out the "size" by computing the gap from one symbol to
the next.

This would not be correct in general, since a part of a section can belong to no
visible symbol (padding, private globals).

It was also really expensive, since we would walk every symbol to find the size
of one.

If a caller really wants this, it can sort all the symbols once and get all the
gaps ("size") in O(n log n) instead of O(n^2).

On MachO this also has the advantage of centralizing all the checks for an
invalid n_sect.

bd59e21808 InstrProf: Remove xfails for big-endian from coverage tests
This still doesn't actually work correctly for big endian input files,
but since these tests all use little endian input files they don't
actually fail. I'll be committing a real fix for big endian soon, but
I don't have proper tests for it yet.

5e4931b489 InstrProf: Do a better job of reading coverage mapping data.
This code was casting regions of a memory buffer to a couple of
different structs. This is wrong in a few ways:

1. It breaks aliasing rules.
2. If the buffer isn't aligned, it hits undefined behaviour.
3. It completely ignores endianness differences.
4. The structs being defined for this aren't specifying their padding
   properly, so this doesn't even represent the data properly on some
   platforms.

This commit is mostly NFC, except that it fixes reading coverage for
32 bit binaries as a side effect of getting rid of the mispadded
structs. I've included a test for that.

I've also baked in that we only handle little endian more explicitly,
since that was true in practice already. I'll fix this to handle
endianness properly in a followup commit.

e6412a691d [dsymutil] Add support for linking line tables.
This code comes with a lot of cruft that is meant to mimic darwin's
dsymutil behavior. A much simpler approach (described in the numerous
FIXMEs that I put in there) gives the right output for the vast
majority of cases. The extra corner cases that are handled differently
need to be investigated: they seem to correctly handle debug info that
is in the input, but that info looks suspicious in the first place.

Anyway, the current code needs to handle this, but I plan to revisit it
as soon as the big round of validation against the classic dsymutil is
over.

d0d92e7d30 [dsymutil] Add minimal code to emit DIE trees.
This commit adds code to emit DIE trees that have been pruned from the
parts that haven't been marked as kept in the previous pass.

It works by 'cloning' the input DIE tree (as read by libDebugInfoDwarf)
into a tree of DIE objects. Cloning the DIEs means essentially cloning
their attributes. The code in this commit does only handle scalar and
block attributes (scalar because they are trivial, blocks because they
can't be easily replaced by a scalr placeholder), all the other ones
are replaced by placeholder zero values and will be handled in
further commits.

The added tests mostly check that the DIE tree has the correct layout and
also verify that a few chosen scalar and block attributes correctly make
their way into the output.

One of several parallel first steps to remove the target type of pointers,
replacing them with a single opaque pointer type.

This adds an explicit type parameter to the gep instruction so that when the
first parameter becomes an opaque pointer type, the type to gep through is
still available to the instructions.

* This doesn't modify gep operators, only instructions (operators will be
  handled separately)

* Textual IR changes only. Bitcode (including upgrade) and changing the
  in-memory representation will be in separate changes.

* geps of vectors are transformed as:
    getelementptr <4 x float*> %x, ...
  ->getelementptr float, <4 x float*> %x, ...
  Then, once the opaque pointer type is introduced, this will ultimately look
  like:
    getelementptr float, <4 x ptr> %x
  with the unambiguous interpretation that it is a vector of pointers to float.

* address spaces remain on the pointer, not the type:
    getelementptr float addrspace(1)* %x
  ->getelementptr float, float addrspace(1)* %x
  Then, eventually:
    getelementptr float, ptr addrspace(1) %x

Importantly, the massive amount of test case churn has been automated by
same crappy python code. I had to manually update a few test cases that
wouldn't fit the script's model (r228970,r229196,r229197,r229198). The
python script just massages stdin and writes the result to stdout, I
then wrapped that in a shell script to handle replacing files, then
using the usual find+xargs to migrate all the files.

update.py:
import fileinput
import sys
import re

ibrep = re.compile(r"(^.*?[^%\w]getelementptr inbounds )(((?:<\d* x )?)(.*?)(| addrspace\(\d\)) *\*(|>)(?:$| *(?:%|@|null|undef|blockaddress|getelementptr|addrspacecast|bitcast|inttoptr|\[\[[a-zA-Z]|\{\{).*$))")
normrep = re.compile(       r"(^.*?[^%\w]getelementptr )(((?:<\d* x )?)(.*?)(| addrspace\(\d\)) *\*(|>)(?:$| *(?:%|@|null|undef|blockaddress|getelementptr|addrspacecast|bitcast|inttoptr|\[\[[a-zA-Z]|\{\{).*$))")

def conv(match, line):
  if not match:
    return line
  line = match.groups()[0]
  if len(match.groups()[5]) == 0:
    line += match.groups()[2]
  line += match.groups()[3]
  line += ", "
  line += match.groups()[1]
  line += "\n"
  return line

for line in sys.stdin:
  if line.find("getelementptr ") == line.find("getelementptr inbounds"):
    if line.find("getelementptr inbounds") != line.find("getelementptr inbounds ("):
      line = conv(re.match(ibrep, line), line)
  elif line.find("getelementptr ") != line.find("getelementptr ("):
    line = conv(re.match(normrep, line), line)
  sys.stdout.write(line)

apply.sh:
for name in "$@"
do
  python3 `dirname "$0"`/update.py < "$name" > "$name.tmp" && mv "$name.tmp" "$name"
  rm -f "$name.tmp"
done

The actual commands:
From llvm/src:
find test/ -name *.ll | xargs ./apply.sh
From llvm/src/tools/clang:
find test/ -name *.mm -o -name *.m -o -name *.cpp -o -name *.c | xargs -I '{}' ../../apply.sh "{}"
From llvm/src/tools/polly:
find test/ -name *.ll | xargs ./apply.sh

After that, check-all (with llvm, clang, clang-tools-extra, lld,
compiler-rt, and polly all checked out).

The extra 'rm' in the apply.sh script is due to a few files in clang's test
suite using interesting unicode stuff that my python script was throwing
exceptions on. None of those files needed to be migrated, so it seemed
sufficient to ignore those cases.

90c4e8b70c InstrProf: Teach llvm-cov to show the max count instead of the last
When multiple regions start on the same line, llvm-cov was just
showing the count of the last one as the line count. This can be
confusing and misleading for things like one-liner loops, where the
count at the end isn't very interesting, or even "if" statements with
an opening brace at the end of the line.

Instead, use the maximum of all of the region start counts.

15db81893f [gold] Consolidate the gold plugin options and actually search for
a gold binary explicitly. Substitute this binary into the tests rather
than just directly executing the 'ld' binary.

This should allow folks to inject a cross compiling gold binary, or in
my case to use a gold binary built and installed somewhere other than
/usr/bin/ld. It should also allow the tests to find 'ld.gold' so that
things work even if gold isn't the default on the system.

I've only stubbed out support in the makefile to preserve the existing
behavior with none of the fancy logic. If someone else wants to add
logic here, they're welcome to do so.

2e2ed16a3b [dsymutil] Add DIE selection algorithm.
With this commit, llvm-dsymutil learns how to choose which DIEs
it will link in the final output and which ones it won't. This
is based on the 'valid relocation' information that has been
built in the previous commits.

The test only tests that we choose the right 'root DIEs'. The
selection algorithm (and especially the part that walk the
dependencies of a root DIE) lacks a bit test coverage. This
will be much easier to cover when we output actual Dwarf and
thus can use llvm-dwarfdump to verify the structure of the
emitted DIE trees. I'll add more tests then.
