8d4bfa624a [gcov] Fix ABI when calling llvm_gcov_... routines from instrumentation code
The llvm_gcov_... routines in compiler-rt are regular C functions that
need to be called using the proper C ABI for the target. The current
code simply calls them using plain LLVM IR types. Since the type are
mostly simple, this happens to just work on certain targets. But other
targets still need special handling; in particular, it may be necessary
to sign- or zero-extended sub-word values to comply with the ABI. This
caused gcov failures on SystemZ in particular.

Now the very same problem was already fixed for the llvm_profile_ calls
here: https://reviews.llvm.org/D21736

This patch uses the same method to fix the llvm_gcov_ calls, in
particular calls to llvm_gcda_start_file, llvm_gcda_emit_function, and
llvm_gcda_emit_arcs.

5b752cf527 [WebAssembly] Add Wasm personality and isScopedEHPersonality()
Summary:
- Add wasm personality function
- Re-categorize the existing `isFuncletEHPersonality()` function into
two different functions: `isFuncletEHPersonality()` and
`isScopedEHPersonality(). This becomes necessary as wasm EH uses scoped
EH instructions (catchswitch, catchpad/ret, and cleanuppad/ret) but not
outlined funclets.
- Changed some callsites of `isFuncletEHPersonality()` to
`isScopedEHPersonality()` if they are related to scoped EH IR-level
stuff.

0818e789cb Rename DEBUG macro to LLVM_DEBUG.
The DEBUG() macro is very generic so it might clash with other projects.
The renaming was done as follows:
- git grep -l 'DEBUG' | xargs sed -i 's/\bDEBUG\s\?(/LLVM_DEBUG(/g'
- git diff -U0 master | ../clang/tools/clang-format/clang-format-diff.py -i -p1 -style LLVM
- Manual change to APInt
- Manually chage DOCS as regex doesn't match it.

In the transition period the DEBUG() macro is still present and aliased
to the LLVM_DEBUG() one.

df9a986c15 [GCOV] Emit the writeout function as nested loops of global data.
Summary:
Prior to this change, LLVM would in some cases emit *massive* writeout
functions with many 10s of 1000s of function calls in straight-line
code. This is a very wasteful way to represent what are fundamentally
loops and creates a number of scalability issues. Among other things,
register allocating these calls is extremely expensive. While D46127 makes this
less severe, we'll still run into scaling issues with this eventually. If not
in the compile time, just from the code size.

Now the pass builds up global data structures modeling the inputs to
these functions, and simply loops over the data structures calling the
relevant functions with those values. This ensures that the code size is
a fixed and only data size grows with larger amounts of coverage data.

A trivial change to IRBuilder is included to make it easier to build
the constants that make up the global data.

0b94abfb45 Add -fprofile-dir= to clang.
-fprofile-dir=path allows the user to specify where .gcda files should be
emitted when the program is run. In particular, this is the first flag that
causes the .gcno and .o files to have different paths, LLVM is extended to
support this. -fprofile-dir= does not change the file name in the .gcno (and
thus where lcov looks for the source) but it does change the name in the .gcda
(and thus where the runtime library writes the .gcda file). It's different from
a GCOV_PREFIX because a user can observe that the GCOV_PREFIX_STRIP will strip
paths off of -fprofile-dir= but not off of a supplied GCOV_PREFIX.

To implement this we split -coverage-file into -coverage-data-file and
-coverage-notes-file to specify the two different names. The !llvm.gcov
metadata node grows from a 2-element form {string coverage-file, node dbg.cu}
to 3-elements, {string coverage-notes-file, string coverage-data-file, node
dbg.cu}. In the 3-element form, the file name is already "mangled" with
.gcno/.gcda suffixes, while the 2-element form left that to the middle end
pass.

63b34cdf34 IR: Introduce local_unnamed_addr attribute.
If a local_unnamed_addr attribute is attached to a global, the address
is known to be insignificant within the module. It is distinct from the
existing unnamed_addr attribute in that it only describes a local property
of the module rather than a global property of the symbol.

This attribute is intended to be used by the code generator and LTO to allow
the linker to decide whether the global needs to be in the symbol table. It is
possible to exclude a global from the symbol table if three things are true:
- This attribute is present on every instance of the global (which means that
the normal rule that the global must have a unique address can be broken without
being observable by the program by performing comparisons against the global's
  address)
- The global has linkonce_odr linkage (which means that each linkage unit must have
its own copy of the global if it requires one, and the copy in each linkage unit
  must be the same)
- It is a constant or a function (which means that the program cannot observe that
the unique-address rule has been broken by writing to the global)

Although this attribute could in principle be computed from the module
contents, LTO clients (i.e. linkers) will normally need to be able to compute
this property as part of symbol resolution, and it would be inefficient to
materialize every module just to compute it.

4eeaa0da04 [PR27284] Reverse the ownership between DICompileUnit and DISubprogram.
Currently each Function points to a DISubprogram and DISubprogram has a
scope field. For member functions the scope is a DICompositeType. DIScopes
point to the DICompileUnit to facilitate type uniquing.

Distinct DISubprograms (with isDefinition: true) are not part of the type
hierarchy and cannot be uniqued. This change removes the subprograms
list from DICompileUnit and instead adds a pointer to the owning compile
unit to distinct DISubprograms. This would make it easy for ThinLTO to
strip unneeded DISubprograms and their transitively referenced debug info.

Motivation
----------

Materializing DISubprograms is currently the most expensive operation when
doing a ThinLTO build of clang.

We want the DISubprogram to be stored in a separate Bitcode block (or the
same block as the function body) so we can avoid having to expensively
deserialize all DISubprograms together with the global metadata. If a
function has been inlined into another subprogram we need to store a
reference the block containing the inlined subprogram.

Attached to https://llvm.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=27284 is a python script
that updates LLVM IR testcases to the new format.

5f220beefc DI: Reverse direction of subprogram -> function edge.
Previously, subprograms contained a metadata reference to the function they
described. Because most clients need to get or set a subprogram for a given
function rather than the other way around, this created unneeded inefficiency.

For example, many passes needed to call the function llvm::makeSubprogramMap()
to build a mapping from functions to subprograms, and the IR linker needed to
fix up function references in a way that caused quadratic complexity in the IR
linking phase of LTO.

This change reverses the direction of the edge by storing the subprogram as
function-level metadata and removing DISubprogram's function field.

Since this is an IR change, a bitcode upgrade has been provided.

Fixes PR23367. An upgrade script for textual IR for out-of-tree clients is
attached to the PR.

e56023a059 IR: Give 'DI' prefix to debug info metadata
Finish off PR23080 by renaming the debug info IR constructs from `MD*`
to `DI*`. The last of the `DIDescriptor` classes were deleted in

this has all baked for about a week.

Note: If you have out-of-tree code (like a frontend), I recommend that
you get everything compiling and tests passing with the *previous*
commit before updating to this one. It'll be easier to keep track of
what code is using the `DIDescriptor` hierarchy and what you've already
updated, and I think you're extremely unlikely to insert bugs. YMMV of
course.

Back to *this* commit: I did this using the rename-md-di-nodes.sh

filtered through clang-format-diff.py. I edited the tests for
test/Assembler/invalid-generic-debug-node-*.ll by hand since the columns
were off-by-three. It should work on your out-of-tree testcases (and

Some of the tests are in badly named files now (e.g.,
test/Assembler/invalid-mdcompositetype-missing-tag.ll should be
'dicompositetype'); I'll come back and move the files in a follow-up
commit.

cf57d81b6e [opaque pointer type] More GEP API migrations in IRBuilder uses
The plan here is to push the API changes out from the common components
(like Constant::getGetElementPtr and IRBuilder::CreateGEP related
functions) and just update callers to either pass the type if it's
obvious, or pass null.

Do this with LoadInst as well and anything else that comes up, then to
start porting specific uses to not pass null anymore - this may require
some refactoring in each case.

6837ab53fb GCOV: Make the exit block placement from r223193 optional
By default we want our gcov emission to stay 4.2 compatible, which
means we need to continue emit the exit block last by default. We add
an option to emit it before the body for users that need it.

b39244dca3 Remove dynamic allocation/indirection from GCOVBlocks owned by GCOVFunction
Since these are all created in the DenseMap before they are referenced,
there's no problem with pointer validity by the time it's required. This
removes another use of DeleteContainerSeconds/manual memory management
which I'm cleaning up from time to time.

03e3dfd20a GCOV: Make sure that function idents in the .gcda and .gcno match
When generating gcov compatible profiling, we sometimes skip emitting
data for functions for one reason or another. However, this was
emitting different function IDs in the .gcno and .gcda files, because
the .gcno case was using the loop index before skipping functions and
the .gcda the array index after. This resulted in completely invalid
gcov data.

This fixes the problem by making the .gcno loop track the ID
separately from the loop index.

bad06b13ba IR: MDNode => Value: NamedMDNode::getOperator()
Change `NamedMDNode::getOperator()` from returning `MDNode *` to
returning `Value *`. To reduce boilerplate at some call sites, add a
`getOperatorAsMDNode()` for named metadata that's expected to only
return `MDNode` -- for now, that's everything, but debug node named
metadata (such as llvm.dbg.cu and llvm.dbg.sp) will soon change. This
is part of PR21433.

Note that there's a follow-up patch to clang for the API change.

8c96862847 Modernize raw_fd_ostream's constructor a bit.
Take a StringRef instead of a "const char *".
Take a "std::error_code &" instead of a "std::string &" for error.

A create static method would be even better, but this patch is already a bit too
big.
