2d32ddf143 [IR] Remove the APIntMoveTy typedef from ConstantRange. Use APInt type directly.
This typedef used to be conditional based on whether rvalue references were supported. Looks like it got left behind when we switched to always having rvalue references with c++11. I don't think it provides any value now.

e05ab25f5d ArgList: cache index ranges containing arguments with each ID
Improve performance of argument list parsing with large numbers of IDs and
large numbers of arguments, by tracking a conservative range of indexes within
the argument list that might contain an argument with each ID. In the worst
case (when the first and last argument with a given ID are at the opposite ends
of the argument list), this still results in a linear-time walk of the list,
but it helps substantially in the common case where each ID occurs only once,
or a few times close together in the list.

This gives a ~10x speedup to clang's `test/Driver/response-file.c`, which
constructs a very large set of command line arguments and feeds them to the
clang driver.

67dcd802e3 [llvm-pdbdump] Minor prepatory refactor of Class Def Dumper.
In a followup patch I intend to introduce an additional dumping
mode which dumps a graphical representation of a class's layout.
In preparation for this, the text-based layout printer needs to
be split out from the graphical layout printer, and both need
to be able to use the same code for printing the intro and outro
of a class's definition (e.g. base class list, etc).

This patch does so, and in the process introduces a skeleton
definition for the graphical printer, while currently making
the graphical printer just print nothing.

7724dc63a7 [llvm-pdbdump] More advanced class definition dumping.
Previously the dumping of class definitions was very primitive,
and it made it hard to do more than the most trivial of output
formats when dumping. As such, we would only dump one line for
each field, and then dump non-layout items like nested types
and enums.

With this patch, we do a complete analysis of the object
hierarchy including aggregate types, bases, virtual bases,
vftable analysis, etc. The only immediately visible effects
of this are that a) we can now dump a line for the vfptr where
before we would treat that as padding, and b) we now don't
treat virtual bases that come at the end of a class as padding
since we have a more detailed analysis of the class's storage
usage.

In subsequent patches, we should be able to use this analysis
to display a complete graphical view of a class's layout including
recursing arbitrarily deep into an object's base class / aggregate
member hierarchy.

6f93f61542 Remove readnone from invariant.group.barrier
Summary:
Readnone attribute would cause CSE of two barriers with
the same argument, which is invalid by example:

    struct Base {
          virtual int foo() { return 42; }
    };

    struct Derived1 : Base {
          int foo() override { return 50; }
    };

    struct Derived2 : Base {
          int foo() override { return 100; }
    };

    void foo() {
        Base *x = new Base{};
        new (x) Derived1{};
        int a = std::launder(x)->foo();
        new (x) Derived2{};
        int b = std::launder(x)->foo();
    }

Here 2 calls of std::launder will produce @llvm.invariant.group.barrier,
which would be merged into one call, causing devirtualization
to devirtualize second call into Derived1::foo() instead of
Derived2::foo()

ab480f45cd [Support] Add support for unique_ptr<> to Casting.h.
Often you have a unique_ptr<T> where T supports LLVM's
casting methods, and you wish to cast it to a unique_ptr<U>.
Prior to this patch, this requires doing hacky things like:

unique_ptr<U> Casted;
if (isa<U>(Orig.get()))
  Casted.reset(cast<U>(Orig.release()));

This is overly verbose, and it would be nice to just be able
to use unique_ptr directly with cast and dyn_cast. To this end,
this patch updates cast<> to work directly with unique_ptr<T>,
so you can now write:

auto Casted = cast<U>(std::move(Orig));

Since it's possible for dyn_cast<> to fail, however, we choose
to use a slightly different API here, because it's awkward to
write

if (auto Casted = dyn_cast<U>(std::move(Orig))) {}

when Orig may end up not having been moved at all. So the
interface for dyn_cast is

if (auto Casted = unique_dyn_cast<U>(Orig)) {}

Where the inclusion of `unique` in the name of the cast operator
re-affirms that regardless of success of or fail of the casting,
exactly one of the input value and the return value will contain
a non-null result.

43d439da88 [LoopVectorizer, TTI] New method supportsEfficientVectorElementLoadStore()
Since SystemZ supports vector element load/store instructions, there is no
need for extracts/inserts if a vector load/store gets scalarized.

This patch lets Target specify that it supports such instructions by means of
a new TTI hook that defaults to false.

The use for this is in the LoopVectorizer getScalarizationOverhead() method,
which will with this patch produce a smaller sum for a vector load/store on
SystemZ.

7dde8e89fc Reland "[IR] Make AttributeSetNode public, avoid temporary AttributeList copies"
This re-lands r299875.

I introduced a bug in Clang code responsible for replacing K&R, no
prototype declarations with a real function definition with a prototype.
The bug was here:

       // Collect any return attributes from the call.
  -    if (oldAttrs.hasAttributes(llvm::AttributeList::ReturnIndex))
  -      newAttrs.push_back(llvm::AttributeList::get(newFn->getContext(),
  -                                                  oldAttrs.getRetAttributes()));
  +    newAttrs.push_back(oldAttrs.getRetAttributes());

Previously getRetAttributes() carried AttributeList::ReturnIndex in its
AttributeList. Now that we return the AttributeSetNode* directly, it no
longer carries that index, and we call this overload with a single node:
  AttributeList::get(LLVMContext&, ArrayRef<AttributeSetNode*>)

That aborted with an assertion on x86_32 targets. I added an explicit
triple to the test and added CHECKs to help find issues like this in the
future sooner.

e0b3c335a2 Allow DataLayout to specify addrspace for allocas.
LLVM makes several assumptions about address space 0. However,
alloca is presently constrained to always return this address space.
There's no real way to avoid using alloca, so without this
there is no way to opt out of these assumptions.

The problematic assumptions include:
- That the pointer size used for the stack is the same size as
  the code size pointer, which is also the maximum sized pointer.

- That 0 is an invalid, non-dereferencable pointer value.

These are problems for AMDGPU because alloca is used to
implement the private address space, which uses a 32-bit
index as the pointer value. Other pointers are 64-bit
and behave more like LLVM's notion of generic address
space. By changing the address space used for allocas,
we can change our generic pointer type to be LLVM's generic
pointer type which does have similar properties.

a8b5a980c8 [IR] Make AttributeSetNode public, avoid temporary AttributeList copies
Summary:
AttributeList::get(Fn|Ret|Param)Attributes no longer creates a temporary
AttributeList just to hide the AttributeSetNode type.

I've also added a factory method to create AttributeLists from a
parallel array of AttributeSetNodes. I think this simplifies
construction of AttributeLists when rewriting function prototypes.
Previously we would test if a particular index had attributes, and
conditionally add a temporary attribute list to a vector. Now the
attribute set vector is parallel to the argument vector already that
these passes already construct.

My long term vision is to wrap AttributeSetNode* inside an AttributeSet
type that holds the enum attributes, but that will come in a follow up
change.

I haven't done any performance measurements for this change because

18fcab5833 General usability improvements to generic PDB library.
1. Added some asserts to make sure concrete symbol types don't
   get constructed with RawSymbols that have an incompatible
   SymTag enum value.
2. Added new forwarding macros that auto-define an Id/Sym method
   pair whenever there is a method that returns a SymIndexId.
   Previously we would just provide one method that returned only
   the SymIndexId and it was up to the caller to use the Session
   object to get a pointer to the symbol. Now we automatically
   get both the method that returns the Id, as well as a method
   that returns the pointer directly with just one macro.
3. Added some methods for dumping straight to stdout that can
   be used from inside the debugger for diagnostics during a
   debug session.
4. Added a clone() method and a cast<T>() method to PDBSymbol
   that can shorten some usage patterns.

dc04fc16d6 [SelectionDAG] Enable target specific vector scalarization of calls and returns
By target hookifying getRegisterType, getNumRegisters, getVectorBreakdown,
backends can request that LLVM to scalarize vector types for calls
and returns.

The MIPS vector ABI requires that vector arguments and returns are passed in
integer registers. With SelectionDAG's new hooks, the MIPS backend can now
handle LLVM-IR with vector types in calls and returns. E.g.
'call @foo(<4 x i32> %4)'.

Previously these cases would be scalarized for the MIPS O32/N32/N64 ABI for
calls and returns if vector types were not legal. If vector types were legal,
a single 128bit vector argument would be assigned to a single 32 bit / 64 bit
integer register.

By teaching the MIPS backend to inspect the original types, it can now
implement the MIPS vector ABI which requires a particular method of
scalarizing vectors.

Previously, the MIPS backend relied on clang to scalarize types such as "call
@foo(<4 x float> %a) into "call @foo(i32 inreg %1, i32 inreg %2, i32 inreg %3,
i32 inreg %4)".

This patch enables the MIPS backend to take either form for vector types.

f634bfbb16 AliasAnalysis: Be less conservative about volatile than atomic.
Summary:
getModRefInfo is meant to answer the question "what impact does this
instruction have on a given memory location" (not even another
instruction).

Long debate on this on IRC comes to the conclusion the answer should be "nothing special".

That is, a noalias volatile store does not affect a memory location
just by being volatile. Note: DSE and GVN and memdep currently
believe this, because memdep just goes behind AA's back after it says
"modref" right now.

see line 635 of memdep. Prior to this patch we would get modref there, then check aliasing,
and if it said noalias, we would continue.

getModRefInfo *already* has this same AA check, it just wasn't being used because volatile was
lumped in with ordering.

(I am separately testing whether this code in memdep is now dead except for the invariant load case)

Use a combination of !associated, comdat, @llvm.compiler.used and
custom sections to allow dead stripping of globals and their asan

Currently this works on LLD, which supports SHF_LINK_ORDER with
sh_link pointing to the associated section.

This also works on BFD, which seems to treat comdats as
all-or-nothing with respect to linker GC. There is a weird quirk
where the "first" global in each link is never GC-ed because of the
section symbols.

At this moment it does not work on Gold (as in the globals are never
stripped).

prefer the pair-of-compares form in IR (shorter, more likely to fold).

ff1254b6f8 Add MCContext argument to MCAsmBackend::applyFixup for error reporting
A number of backends (AArch64, MIPS, ARM) have been using
MCContext::reportError to report issues such as out-of-range fixup values in
their TgtAsmBackend. This is great, but because MCContext couldn't easily be
threaded through to the adjustFixupValue helper function from its usual
callsite (applyFixup), these backends ended up adding an MCContext* argument
and adding another call to applyFixup to processFixupValue. Adding an
MCContext parameter to applyFixup makes this unnecessary, and even better -
applyFixup can take a reference to MCContext rather than a potentially null
pointer.

If an instruction has a true dependency, it makes sense for to use that

was already implemented. However, the code would then still try to
revisit that instruction and break the dependency (and always fail,
since by definition a true dependency has to be live before the
instruction). Avoid revisiting such instructions as a performance
optimization. No functional change.

690f0b25ab [tablegen][globalisel] Add support for nested instruction matching.
Summary:
Lift the restrictions that prevented the tree walking introduced in the
previous change and add support for patterns like:
  (G_ADD (G_MUL (G_SEXT $src1), (G_SEXT $src2)), $src3) -> SMADDWrrr $dst, $src1, $src2, $src3
Also adds support for G_SEXT and G_ZEXT to support these cases.

One particular aspect of this that I should draw attention to is that I've
tried to be overly conservative in determining the safety of matches that
involve non-adjacent instructions and multiple basic blocks. This is intended
to be used as a cheap initial check and we may add a more expensive check in
the future. The current rules are:
* Reject if any instruction may load/store (we'd need to check for intervening
  memory operations.
* Reject if any instruction has implicit operands.
* Reject if any instruction has unmodelled side-effects.
See isObviouslySafeToFold().

output routines. See https://github.com/apple/swift/pull/8477 for details.

This patch is one step to attempt to unify the main APInt interface and the tc functions used by APFloat.

This patch adds a WordType to APInt and uses that in all the tc functions. I've added temporary typedefs to APFloat to alias it to integerPart to keep the patch size down. I'll work on removing that in a future patch.

In future patches I hope to reuse the tc functions to implement some of the main APInt functionality.

I may remove APINT_ from BITS_PER_WORD and WORD_SIZE constants so that we don't have the repetitive APInt::APINT_ externally.

a9c17af0f6 [APInt] Fix bugs in isShiftedMask to match behavior of the similar function in MathExtras.h
This removes a parameter from the routine that was responsible for a lot of the issue. It was a bit count that had to be set to the BitWidth of the APInt and would get passed to getLowBitsSet. This guaranteed the call to getLowBitsSet would create an all ones value. This was then compared to (V | (V-1)). So the only shifted masks we detected had to have the MSB set.

The one in tree user is a transform in InstCombine that never fires due to earlier transforms covering the case better. I've submitted a patch to remove it completely, but for now I've just adapted it to the new interface for isShiftedMask.

9fc191fd45 [DAGCombiner] Add vector demanded elements support to ComputeNumSignBits
Currently ComputeNumSignBits returns the minimum number of sign bits for all elements of vector data, when we may only be interested in one/some of the elements.

This patch adds a DemandedElts argument that allows us to specify the elements we actually care about. The original ComputeNumSignBits implementation calls with a DemandedElts demanding all elements to match current behaviour. Scalar types set this to 1.

I've only added support for BUILD_VECTOR and EXTRACT_VECTOR_ELT so far, all others will default to demanding all elements but can be updated in due course.

85ae85b821 [ScalarEvolution] Re-enable Predicate implication from operations
The patch rL298481 was reverted due to crash on clang-with-lto-ubuntu build.
The reason of the crash was type mismatch between either a or b and RHS in the following situation:

  LHS = sext(a +nsw b) > RHS.

This is quite rare, but still possible situation. Normally we need to cast all {a, b, RHS} to their widest type.
But we try to avoid creation of new SCEV that are not constants to avoid initiating recursive analysis that
can take a lot of time and/or cache a bad value for iterations number. To deal with this, in this patch we
reject this case and will not try to analyze it if the type of sum doesn't match with the type of RHS. In this
situation we don't need to create any non-constant SCEVs.

This patch also adds an assertion to the method IsProvedViaContext so that we could fail on it and not
go further into range analysis etc (because in some situations these analyzes succeed even when the passed
arguments have wrong types, what should not normally happen).

The patch also contains a fix for a problem with too narrow scope of the analysis caused by wrong
usage of predicates in recursive invocations.

The regression test on the said failure: test/Analysis/ScalarEvolution/implied-via-addition.ll

9f482fc3fc LTO: Reduce memory consumption by creating an in-memory symbol table for InputFiles. NFCI.
Introduce symbol table data structures that can be potentially written to
disk, have the LTO library build those data structures using temporarily
constructed modules and redirect the LTO library implementation to go through
those data structures. This allows us to remove the LLVMContext and Modules
owned by InputFile.

With this change I measured a peak memory consumption decrease from 5.4GB to
2.8GB in a no-op incremental ThinLTO link of Chromium on Linux. The impact on
memory consumption is larger in COFF linkers where we are currently forced
to materialize all metadata in order to read linker options. Peak memory
consumption linking a large piece of Chromium for Windows with full LTO and
debug info decreases from >64GB (OOM) to 15GB.

Part of PR27551.

546a4623a5 [WebAssembly] Initial linking metadata support
Add support for the new relocations and linking metadata section support in
https://github.com/WebAssembly/tool-conventions/blob/master/Linking.md. In
particular, this allows LLVM to indicate which variable is the stack pointer,
so that it can be linked with other objects.

This also adds support for emitting type relocations for call_indirect
instructions.

Right now, this is mainly tested by using wabt and hexdump to examine the
output on selected testcases. We'll add more tests as the design stablizes
and more of the pieces are in place.

04dea7e088 [CodeGen] Pass SDAG an ORE, and replace FastISel stats with remarks.
In the long-term, we want to replace statistics with something
finer-grained that lets us gather per-function data.
Remarks are that replacement.

Create an ORE instance in SelectionDAGISel, and pass it to
SelectionDAG.

SelectionDAG was used so that we can emit remarks from all
SelectionDAG-related code, including TargetLowering and DAGCombiner.
This isn't used in the current patch but Adam tells me he's interested
for the fp-contract combines.

Use the ORE instance to emit FastISel failures as remarks (instead of
the mix of dbgs() dumps and statistics that we currently have).

Eventually, we want to have an API that tells us whether remarks are
enabled (http://llvm.org/PR32352) so that we don't emit expensive
remarks (in this case, dumping IR) when it's not needed. For now, use
'isEnabled' as a crude replacement.

This does mean that the replacement for '-fast-isel-verbose' is now
'-pass-remarks-missed=isel'. Additionally, clang users also need to
enable remark diagnostics, using '-Rpass-missed=isel'.

This also removes '-fast-isel-verbose2': there are no static statistics
that we want to only enable in asserts builds, so we can always use
the remarks regardless of the build type.

d897ffbad4 Revert "Make naming in Host.h in line with coding standards."
This reverts r299062, which caused build failures on Windows.
It also reverts the attempts to fix the windows builds in r299064 and r299065.
The introduction of namespace llvm::sys::detail makes MSVC, and seemingly also
mingw, complain about ambiguity with the existing namespace llvm::detail.
E.g.:
C:\b\slave\sanitizer-windows\llvm\include\llvm/Support/MathExtras.h(184): error C2872: 'detail': ambiguous symbol
C:\b\slave\sanitizer-windows\llvm\include\llvm/Support/PointerLikeTypeTraits.h(31): note: could be 'llvm::detail'
C:\b\slave\sanitizer-windows\llvm\include\llvm/Support/Host.h(80): note: or       'llvm::sys::detail'

In r299064 and r299065 I tried to fix these ambiguities, based on the errors
reported in the log files. It seems however that the build stops early when
this kind of error is encountered, and many build-then-fix-iterations on
Windows may be needed to fix this. Therefore reverting r299062 for now to
get the build working again on Windows.

f1d06b8e0a Refactor getHostCPUName to allow testing on non-native hardware.
This refactors getHostCPUName so that for the architectures that get the
host cpu info on linux from /proc/cpuinfo, the /proc/cpuinfo parsing
logic is present in the build, even if it wasn't built on a linux system
for that architecture.

Since the code is present in the build, we can then test that code also
on other systems, i.e. we don't need to have buildbots setup for all
architectures on linux to be able to test this. Instead, developers will
test this as part of the regression test run.

As an example, a few unit tests are added to test getHostCPUName for ARM
running linux. A unit test is preferred over a lit-based test, since the
expectation is that in the future, the functionality here will grow over
what can be tested with "llc -mcpu=native".

This is a preparation step to enable implementing the range of
improvements discussed on PR30516, such as adding AArch64 support,
support for big.LITTLE systems, reducing code duplication.

Summary:
It is problematic for this reader that it expects to read data from
several threads, but the header or message format does not define
framing. Since the buffers are reused, we can't rely on skipping
zeroed out data as a synchronization method either.

There is an argument that this is not version compatible with the format
the reader expected previously. I argue that since the writer wrote garbage
past the end of buffer record, there is no currently working reader to
compromise.

The corresponding writer change is posted to D31384.
